Despite his five-hundred years as an immortal, he discovers something unexpectedly captivating in the beautiful but shy young woman...

Colin (Her Warlock Protector #4)

Adept, powerful, and doing well for herself, witch Selene Lapointe has no problem operating as a rogue. Her ability to alter people’s memories serves many clients, and has sent many members of the Magus Corps running!

But that all changes when Colonel Colin MacDaniel arrives. Rather than avoid her gift, he opens himself to it. She can hardly believe it as he keeps confronting her, and yet offers no resistance except his seemingly heartfelt desire to protect her!

As he begins to wear her down, passion heats up. Soon the pair find themselves in the grip of desires that have gone too long unfulfilled. But as their sensuous parrying spirals to dizzying heights, her secret patron is forced to reveal her for what she is!

Vincent (Her Warlock Protector #5)

Vincent Harcourt can hardly believe that the beautiful woman he’s been monitoring was the girl he’d once known in high school. Though he’s an immortal warlock now, all Amanda can see is that his black hair has gone completely white. Still struggling to get past the incident that gave him the silvery hair, Vincent is determined to nurture Amanda’s untapped power...

But when his nemesis arrives seeking to conclude unfinished business, Vincent must confront a past that he had thought to leave behind. As he and Amanda fall hopelessly in love, she becomes a pawn in a game, bigger than any of them could have conceived!

Hazel and her husband stopped being separate people years ago. They live their happy life in the always crowded, mostly sunny, and sometimes sweltering city of LA. Though they haven’t managed it yet, plans are afoot to add a kitty to the household, thereby giving the allergist fits.

Hazel has been writing full-time for several years, with some traditionally published work in other genres. But it’s her indie-published romance that fuels the creative fire. It turns out writing isn’t a job, it’s an obsession.

When you can pry Hazel’s fingers from the laptop, you’ll find her: on the elliptical watching a documentary, indulging her audiobook habit, or spending quality time with Candy Crush. Although she’s vegan, she’s a disaster in the kitchen. Luckily, potato chips and pinot noir come ready-made.

Ehh, this is a really, really rough read. I don't mind rough seas, but I want to be on a dependable, sturdy boat for it, not a blow up dingy.

Rough Seas In A Dingy :/

The story starts fine enough with the alley incident.

But, then the author immediately takes the MCs into this tender, sickly sweet, mushy 'are you okay, & emotional sex scene before we even get FIVE% into the book. The characters literally meet, walk to her apartment, and five minutes later are MAKING LOVE like a virginal newlywed couple on their wedding night would. Now ^THAT^ is putting the very rough seas of insta love in a blow up dingy!

She disappears. He's dumbfounded. They individually poetically wax for 3% before finding each other again, which brings us to the next problem with this book...

Who The Fuck Talks Like That?

He may be 500 years old, but she's not! Plus, this is set in current time & if anyone talked the way these two do, they'd be tagged for admission to a mental health facility!

• "Have me, take me."

• "As my lady wishes"

• "I don't know what you are thinking right now. Can you tell me?"

•"I believe in the privacy of my lovers" (he said "primly")

• "You know that I used to be Italian, right?" Lmao @this one... How does one stop being Italian? Just asking?!?

The dialogue is awkward, flows horribly, is cut off by multiple paragraphs of narrative, and often feels like it's just randomly inserted inside a scene being told to the reader.

Take 8% as an example....(scene set up they had sex after knowing each other five minutes. The next am she disappears. A weekly later, they run into each other):

"It's you"

"It is....Sophia....I... What did I do?"

"What do you mean?"

"When I left, you were gone. I..I would like to know if I did something that offended you, that hurt you."

"No! I mean, no, I wasn't...it wasn't that Dominic."

"Was it simple disinterest then? That would surprise me, but I could understand it...."

"It wasn't disinterest either. I'm tired. I'm just...so, so tired."

"What honey? What's made you so tired."

"Being without you. I don't want to be without you."

"You won't be. You won't be."

Everything about the convos thus far are weird like this, from timing, word choice, subject matter, etc, it's all just wrong! And, to add to the weirdness, it's cut up by paragraph after paragraph of musing narrative.

Not The Sharpest Tool In The Shed

description

She can make herself disappear at will. Yet, he tells her he is 500 years old and her reaction is:

"How... how can you expect me to believe this?"

I'm sorry, but yeah, she's just a fucking moron?!?

And that, folks, is my clue to exit the few shreds that's left of this sinking dingy at 11%.

This is a boxed collection of stories about the men of the Magus Corps. It was good to meet with Stephen, an old friend from the Castle Coven set.

Each story is individual, but obviously with similarities, after all, they are all warlocks who work for the Magus Corps and fight the Templars. I think out of them all my favourite would be Trent, but then I do love a shifter as well as a witch.

These are all novellas so the action, both between the sheets and out, moves very quickly. Well-written and smoothly paced, this is a box set to enjoy. Definitely recommended.

* I received this box set from the author in return for a fair and honest review. *

This could have been a good set of paranormal romances, but there was just way too much sex and violence. Because of that, this boxed set gets only 2 stars from me.

I really hated that the author portrayed the Wicca religion as all about sex. I'm not a Wiccan, and know very little about their beliefs, but find it difficult to believe that sex plays such an important part in it. If I'm correct about that, then I suspect these stories would offend Wiccans. It seems that the author used Wicca as an excuse to put a lot of erotic scenes in the books.

I also really hated that the heroes all thought it was perfectly fine to use sex to strengthen the powers of the witches they were protecting, and to convince them to do what they wanted. I found that absolutely repulsive, and couldn't understand how the women could fall in love with a man who would use them like that. Because of that, I actually decided NOT to read one book of the series that was not included in this set.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

This series consists of short standalone stories. They have main repeating elements- Magus Corps officer sent on a mission, ends up falling fast for the girl.
I have liked each and every one of them. With the books being so short, sometimes things feel incomplete or rushed, but I think the point of each book is that love at first sight does exist.
I recommend reading this series; it's definitely worth the time!

Not for me

I'm not a stickler for grammar, but 'undo caution'. I think that would be undue. There are other examples. I read all the books and I think they may suit teenagers; they have a more creative attitude to spelling and grammar. But I don't think they would appeal to a more mature reader. All the books are very similar. Sorry

Fantastic

I love this author! Her books are fun, and just keep you from wanting to do anything else into you've read every word. Each one in this series could be read on its own.

Dominic - Contemporary paranormal with protected sex. This is the 1st book in the series.

I really enjoyed this story of a witch who doesn't know what she is. A member of the Magus Corp comes to find her & bring her into the fold. At times Sophia seems almost stupidly obstinate. I'll forgive her though, since she's had a lot of reasons to distrust.

Sebastian - Contemporary paranormal with protected sex. The 2nd in the series.

I was wary of this one. I've found that an author relies on what works best & the books following the first book tend to be carbon copies (Caris Roane). Thankfully, this wasn't totally true with this story. The warlock, Sebastian, is indeed handsome, built & powerful. The witch, Nicolette, is older, smarter & has evaded the covens & the Templars for over 10 years. Sebastian's job is to bring Nicolette into a coven for protection from the Templars who are about start another conflict.

I liked both Sebastian & Nicolette & I liked this story. So far, the box set has turned out well. We'll see with Logan's story which is next.

Logan. This is the 3rd in the series.

The further story of warrior warlocks waging war with Templar Knights. The warlocks are charged with bringing in rogue witches & warlocks who are trying to stay independent from the covens.

Logan is actually a General in the Magus army. He's been given light duty bringing in rogues after the death of his best friend from a Knight. He finds Caitlin & the sparks fly.

I liked this one, but there were several points of contention :
Caitlin is a seer, so you'd think she'd have an edge here. Unfortunately, with divination, apparently you get whatever the gift shows you.
After her duplex is broken into, you'd think Caitlin would give some thought to her pet ferret, who's also her familiar. Nope, he's left forgotten at home.
Caitlin's sister is also a witch, but apparently they didn't know the other was too. She leaves the protection of the Magus because she doesn't want to be exploited by them. Seems dumb & her story is left hanging. Is there another story to give us resolution? Unknown.
Jonathan is the leader of the Magus & he's pretty much of a dick. The Warlock Magus doesn't seem well organized. Help is too slow to come to those in need.

Colin : 4rth in the series

paranormal novella. I'm starting to see a sameness with the previous stories. I liked the H/h, but this was way too short to be satisfying. The resolution is in the last few pages & is rushed.

Vincent :
Paranormal with sex, this is the 5th story in the series. Over 50 "chapters". Some of the chapters are only a page long, a couple only a paragraph. So more a short story IMO.

This one just didn't hit me right. Rushed from start to finish. Amanda doesn't know what kind of power she has, since it's never manifested. Vincent is an exorcist with the Magus Corp, sent to bring her into the fold. They've known each other since high school, but they also haven't seen each other since then. They jump in bed WAAAAY too fast. Then it's I LOVE YOU MARRY ME. Too rushed. At one point Amanda becomes TSTL. Vincent saves her.
Lionel is the Templar sent to torment them. There's a history with Vincent, but this story isn't fleshed out, so the more interesting aspect is left dangling. Too bad.

One funny thing is Amanda's familiar is a sheep named Dayla. A sheep is something different at least.

Jackson : 6th in the series.
This was a good story! I liked the H/h & the heroine has a cool familiar. A white barn owl.
There's a murder mystery also & a couple of good twists.

Trent - book 7 & the final in this series.
The usual story with a shapeshifter twist. Trent & Elaine are a good couple. I like how HH has been able to keep the stories in this series just different enough to be interesting.

I really enjoyed the entire series and can't wait to enter into HH world yet again. Although I've read each book individually, it was great having them all together to read straight thru. Hazel Hunter has become one of my favorite authors and I really become involved with her characters. I like that her series overlap and tie into one another even if it's just the familiarity with the world she's created. I received an ARC for an honest review.

I can't say this was a riveting collection of novels (and novels, considering their length, is a bit of a stretch) but some of the stories were redeemable. Colin was a particular favourite of mine. I liked the unique spin it placed on the Alpha-male-older-guy cliché. It was so refreshing not to have a dominant, male character disregard his love interest's feelings or free will (even if that kind of fiction is a guilty pleasure of mine). To be honest, I can't remember any of the others particularly well. Tristan sticks in my mind but only because it was the last one I read. I think there was a Sebastian in there somewhere, and a Logan maybe? The writing, in places, was absolutely beautiful: fluid, intricate and effortless to read. This effect was ruined, however, by the overall writing style. Some scenes dragged while others flew by with barely a nod to detail or emotion. I was left with whiplash and a serious need to fall asleep while reading the same novella, which is never a good thing when it is not intended on the author's part. Overall, therefore, I would say that while these books showed great promise and there's certainly evidence of excitement, passion and satisfactory world-building, a little more work needs to go into them if they want to scramble off the 2-star shelf (although my rating is decidedly harsh, just because I can see such promise in the author's writing).

Potential is there, but.........

Ms. Hunter has potential. But I could only get through the first three books and gave up. All the stories are nearly carbon copies. A witch alone meets warlock protector, falls in love but refuses to join coven, witch gets attacked/captured by Templar, warlock saves witch, witch decides to join coven. For me, even the sex was the same. No spice, considering sex replenishes their power, I'd want to play more. But that's just me. Another problem for me: this is a series yet the only thing connecting the books is the world setting. The characters between the books have no connection at all including the bad guys. You can read any of the books in any order and not miss a thing. For me, connection is what makes a good series. I will try another of Ms. Hunter's books because I see potential. The flow was good and had few errors.

Previously purchased most of these books as individuals.

Each of the stories can be read as a stand alone, but together YUM!!

Of the ones I have read, the story line sucks you in and you can't put it down. I can't wait to finish the ones I have not read yet!

Thank you for putting them together in the box set!

It wasn't all that great. I liked the first book ok but the earth didnt move for me it kinda got really boring for me after finishing Dominic. It didnt keep my attention past half of Sebastian. Parts were repetitive too at least it seemed like it. The idea of the stories were good but not interesting enough for me to continue. Sorry.

Not bad

I honestly wish each story of this set was longer with more detail and deepness but with what it is, is still excellent. Each and every story had me completely drawn in, unable to set it aside....I completely suggest everyone read this. One heck of a great read here.

More flops than stars

Interesting plot ideas but the men dominate and the whole series begins to fall away. The Corps descends into a patriarchal dark empire using the witches as Canon fodder and assets. Disappointed.

Wow so much potential and then goes limp

These books have so much potential but are focused on sex the story is lost. They end before they are finished and left me wanting more story and less sex scenes.

I only read #4, Hugh, but wanted to leave a review. It was a fast read but enough to pique my interest in the others in the series, or even some of her other books. Dr. Gorgeous was a good character, would have liked more magic, but the real stars are Nix and Noobie! Loved the ending!

What could be better than being pursued by a powerful, gorgeous, sexy Warlock? How about Seven??? Well, we live in hope and thankfully Hazel Hunter never disappoints!

In the Warlock Protector Set, you get seven stand alone books with the hunkiest men, protecting kind, unsuspecting young witches from the most evil, dastardly band of scoundrels you can possibly imagine. You will love every character, especially ones that seem to walk both sides of the line.

I thought it was impossible to have a favorite but Jackson Daniels (yep, Jack Daniels) in book 6 just melted my heart. After 800 years of immortality he is sent on a mission to investigate a rogue witch in Galveston, Texas. His mind is pretty much focused on her being up to no good, so imagine how stunned he is to be attracted to her. Well, not just attracted, the heat is palpable. (seriously, that's a part I would volunteer for...and I bet you would too) To no surprise, the connection is mutual for the unsuspecting woman.

True to HH's style, there is plenty of mayhem, intrigue and some general skulduggery going on in every book and at times you are left guessing who is on the good side and who is about to make you their next snack.

Ahhhh ... seven great stories. Plenty of steamy scenes and delicious dialogue. Numerous plot twists and turns. The stories vary greatly but you are just about guaranteed an exhale at the end of each one. Take your time and relish each read. You will be glad you did.
