My mythology professor is a dragon king. He claims I’m his fated mate. Now he wants to knot me and never let go. I just wanted the literature credit.
I told a stranger he was wrong about dragons in a bookshop, and the next morning he walked in as my professor.
Sorren Ambrose is seven hundred years old, obscenely rich, and built like a bad decision, with the manners of a Victorian and the emotional range of a very expensive rock.
He does not know how to say what he feels, so he keeps things instead. My chewed-up pens. A grocery receipt of mine, sealed behind glass like a relic. The paperback he swears is inaccurate, annotated in the margins before dawn. And when another man smiles at me, a metal bottle does not survive his hand.
He would keep me the same preserved, protected, under glass. But I clawed my way back from a career-ending injury to build a life that is mine, and I am nobody’s exhibit.
Then his rut hits, and seven centuries of glacial control go up in flames. Turns out knotting is not a metaphor, and once a dragon has you, he is in no hurry to let you go.
“I don’t know how to want something without trying to earn it first,” he tells me.
He does not get to keep me. He has to win me.
And a king who has bowed to no one is about to grovel for the girl who called him wrong.
Bookish Girl’s Knotting Classes with a Dragon King is a fun, rom-com-ish fated-mates shifter romance. Full-length standalone with a guaranteed HEA. 18+ for mature content.
The premise is intriguing; the blurb is interesting. The actual book is neither.
I made it to page 208, which is 29% of the book. At that point, I realized that I just could not read any further.
The first negative is the writing style. It’s very…..choppy, jerky, robotic. Especially for a first person POV. Line breaks and new paragraphs where there really shouldn’t be. Instead of adding emphasis or impact, they break the flow and feel, they throw me out of the story and reading. It’s unnecessary and poor grammar/writing.
The second, and bigger, negative is how the FMC treats the MMC. She is stupidly small-minded. The author through the FMC is constantly diminishing and villainizing the MMC for simply being, for his nature, for his attempts to care for her. I find it extremely off-putting and disgusting. I kept hoping the FMC would grow and learn better; instead, the MMC is forced to go against is very nature and instinct as if he’s in the wrong.
There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with his seeing a need and trying to fill it. My gosh, that’s such a good thing to do. He sees her knee injury, he sees that her current knee brace is frayed and failing, he studies her specific injury, he researches the best knee brace for her injury, he buys it for her, and he leaves it for her with zero strings attached. He also researched therapy and exercises to help her heal and strengthen that knee; he sees what she is already doing and wants to support her healing journey. The therapy and exercise notes could go either way on too far an overstep maybe. But to have the FMC berate the MMC for what he did? To diminish it? Diminish him? Call it something it is not? Ugh. Despicable.
I will not be finishing this book. I will not be reading anything else by this author.
The title is very misleading in that it makes you think you’re getting a really pathetic effort and will be a DNF entry very quickly. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m impressed with how well this was written, the dialogue, the character development. Seriously, this was fantastic! I also loved the historian/archivist slant to the story; as a former history major myself, I ate this up. The open door sections were done perfectly. I also loved the ADHD repping. I can’t wait to read more from the co-authors!
What a fun, captivating, and entertaining read! I loved the unique blend of dragon shifter fantasy, fated mates, romance, and humor. Sorren’s possessive yet vulnerable personality makes him such an interesting character, while the heroine’s strength and independence add so much charm to the story. Their chemistry, witty moments, and emotional twists make this romance especially enjoyable. A delightful story for anyone who loves paranormal romance, powerful dragon kings, and happily-ever-afters. Highly recommended........
This book has all the great things about a book. The hilarious banter keeps you coming back for more. The hope of a new relationship and the hope of completing goals make you warm and fuzzy, and then of course there's the knotting. I'll definitely be reading more from this collection!
The title doesn’t exactly fit the narrative. This was such a good story that made me laugh at times (dry humor at its finest) and filled my heart. There is sex in this book but not raunchy content. I recommend reading it.
The story is amazing. The journey of loving people and things properly was beautifully written and so good. I was deeply invested in the ups and downs. I love that the FMC was strong and independent
