From #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury comes the third novel in an unforgettable series about divine intervention and the trials and triumphs of life for a group of friends.

Despite needing a heart transplant and against the advice of her doctor, Mary Catherine moves to Uganda to work at a new orphanage. Whatever time she has left, Mary Catherine wants to spend it helping children—especially since there will be no children of her own. The only problem is Major League Baseball player Marcus Dillinger, the man she never meant to fall in love with. Neither Marcus nor Mary Catherine’s other friends—Tyler Ames and Sami Dawson—know just how serious her heart condition is.

Still, Marcus is sure in the depths of his soul that something isn’t right. Ultimately his correspondence with Mary Catherine leads him on a desperate life-or-death mission to rescue her and get her to a US hospital before time runs out. Meanwhile, Sami and Tyler struggle with issues of their own. In a season when Tyler plans to ask Sami to marry him, the very core of their relationship is in jeopardy.

The team of angels walking is busier than ever in this epic battle between life and death. A Brush of Wings is a poignant tale of love, sacrifice, and the power of faith.

I am not usually very hard to please with novels, but this one completely missed the mark for me. I found the main protagonist Mary Catherine to be annoying, unlikable and all together too perfect. I also got very tired of the fact that the author kept pushing a 'ketosis' diet as the cure all for every health problem. I don't read novels to have diet fads pushed on me. I go to my doctor for that. 2 stars was a generous rating...

This novel is the third in the Angels Walking series and to really enjoy it fully, one should read the previous two.

As with the other novels, Kingsbury highlights the role of angels in the lives of the novel's characters. This story centers on Mary Catherine. She is in need of a heart transplant and it looks like the chances of that happening are slim. Convinced the relationship between her and Marcus should not continue, she spurns his love for her and goes to Africa. The angels take on the task of preserving her life and seeing to it that her future is in line with the future God has planned.

Kingsbury has an interesting way of writing a novel. Even though there were suspenseful times in the story, the action moves along at a consistent pace and the prose is almost soothing rather than anxiety producing. The characters' personalities are well developed as there is quite a bit of contemplation by them recorded.

There were a couple of things I found a bit odd in the novel. One was the lack of description. I had a hard time visualizing people and places. We are in the presence of a newborn at one place in the novel and I kept waiting to find out what it looked like. I read much of what people thought about the baby and its importance to them, but I was left never knowing whether the baby had hair, was bald, the color of its skins, etc. I would have liked a little more physical descriptions of the scenes and people, perhaps at the expense of what characters were thinking about the scenes and the people.

The other concept I thought odd was the dislike of carbohydrates. There was a repeated emphasis on avoiding carbohydrates. In fact, Kingsbury writes, “Carbohydrates caused inflammation, illness, and disease.” I did a little investigation on my own and found that research results are really mixed. While refined carbohydrates cause inflammation, some studies found that fats and protein (especially casein) do too. One study found that high fiber intake actually lowered inflammation markers. With the conclusions so mixed, I wondered why the carbohydrate issue was mentioned so often.

I recommend this novel to readers who like a satisfying Christian romance that highlights the possible involvement of angels in our lives. If you like a high protein, low carb diet, your views will be reinforced too.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

Brush of Wings is the third and final book in Karen Kingsbury's Angels Walking series and all I can say is Wow!
This series touched my life in more ways than one and the third book wrapped it up in a heartfelt moment where a wonderful fulfilling sigh escaped my lips.
The story of Mary Catherine and Marcus, along with Tyler and Sami, will leave you feeling whole again. At least that's what it did for me.
Karen, you've done it again! Thank you.

Brush of Wings by Karen Kingsbury is the third book in the Angels Walking series. It can be read as a stand alone although you may not understand a few things throughout the book. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and was sad to see it end. As with most of Karen's books I fell in love with the characters and found myself laughing and crying right along with them.

In this book Mary Catherine faces a serious health crisis. She refuses to tell anyone just how serious it is and instead focuses on her desire to go to Africa. She's determined that IF she is to die she will do it on her own terms loving the orphans and spreading the message of God. What can be more noble than that? She goes against doctors orders and leaves family and friends in the dark promising herself if she gets really really sick she will tell Sami, her roommate.

I don't believe Mary Catherine was cold hearted or malicious by not telling them. She didn't want to be a burden on those she loved. She also didn't want Marcus to waste his time and heart on her when she wasn't sure she was going to live. She loved them, Marcus and her friends, and didn't want to burden them with worries of her health or to have them talk her out of this trip to Africa. She longed to help at the orphanage and felt like God was calling her to do that. I admired Mary Catherine's spirit. She loved life but most of all she loved God. She never once stopped praying to God for guidance throughout her entire story. Whether she was having a good day or a really bad one she never forgot her Lord.

I felt bad for Marcus. Here he is madly in love with Mary Catherine and he doesn't understand why she's pushing him away. He knows their feelings are real, yet she won't fully commit to him. Even when he says he loves her and will wait for her even as she goes to Africa, she says she just wants to be friends. It takes a strong man of faith to love Mary Catherine and Marcus Dillinger is just that man. Although he's still new to his faith he loves God with all his heart and he relies on God to guide his footsteps. I have to admit Marcus made my heart swoon. Who wouldn't want a man who loves God desperately first and pursues you with that same determination?. He wasn't overly pushy with her but he was definitely forthright. I also loved how he asked God for a sign and God answered. I can't tell you how many times I've begged God for a burning bush or something to tell me what I should do.

Friends, I absolutely loved this book. It's definitely a love story but not just one between man and woman. No, it's a love story between God and his people. You feel that throughout this book. It's like God told Karen "write a love story to my people". *sigh. I can go on and on but I'd rather you get a copy and read it for yourself! The book isn't available to March 29th but you can pre-order it for the next few weeks. If you pre-order you can receive a gift from Karen. All the details are on Karen's webpage and Facebook page. You can pre-order as many copies as you like. You may be thinking "what will I do with more than one copy of the same book?". Well, be an angel to somebody;give a copy to your neighbor, a single mom, or leave one at the doctor's office. They will be blessed and you will too.

This was the final book in the Angels Walking series.

As expected from Karen Kingsbury, this was a great conclusion to the series, however I did feel it drag a bit in the middle. I got very frustrated with Mary Catherine in this book. In book 1 and 2 I felt she was a strong character, but in this book I felt she was acting selfish and almost like a spoiled child who makes decisions based on their will.

What was great for me in this book though was the message I got from it. That some times we act as spoiled children, acting in our will instead of God's will, trying to convince ourselves that it is God's will. Even though we are stubborn and walk a bit of God's path for our lives, He still works everything to our will, protecting us and guiding us gently back to His path. Sometimes we make decisions because we limit what God can do in our lives, like Mary Catherine did with her illness.

By this last book in the series I was very irritated with MC for acting so irresponsibly and recklessly with her health and her downright lying, mostly by omission, I suppose, to her parents, her friends, and Marcus. (I was also getting tired of it sounding like we were being evangelized to eat a ketogenic, organic diet and, not only is that great for your health, but you will be a better Christian because it is food "the way God made it" and all the rest of us should probably be ashamed of ourselves for eating regular food with sugar.) I do not buy that anyone would, in good conscience, keep that kind of serious health issue from their parents. Imagine how you would feel if your child did that! Families are not supposed to work like that. I did like the happily ever after, so much that I almost gave 3 stars, but then I decided not to let the ending sway me from the way I saw most of the rest of the book. She never tried to discern what God's will would be in the situation she just did what she wanted to do. I did like the way the angels were portrayed and the ways they intervened. That was a clever and imaginative way to interpret how angels might work in our lives...although there was that old t.v. series, Touched by an Angel, so...

The mission work in this one was exquisite. I enjoyed Mary Catherine’s heartbreaking journey. Talk about emotional!

Though it was claimed that “the angels had done everything right,” their actions made me uncomfortable. One let the air out of a car’s tires, and a pair of others flagged down a pilot to halt a flight from taking off. Those actions (and others) felt too controlling, too manipulative of the human realm, especially considering that God grants humans the right to choose their own path in life.

I’m not sure I believe that a pair of romances are life-and-death serious in the grand scheme of the spiritual status of all Americans’ souls for the next generation, as this book (and series) claimed. This driving point was unrealistic to me, so a huge aspect of this trilogy was lost on me.

It was great to see how respectful Marcus was of Mary Catherine’s preferences in their relationship. It’s encouraging to know that chivalry is still kickin’.

This was the perfect ending to the series. I loved it! From the beginning the reader knew that there was something special coming, but I didn’t figure it out until near the end of this third book. It was so beautiful. I am grateful for the angels that God has said surround us here on earth. I love to think that beings as wonderful as the ones in these books are looking out for me.

I received an arc from Netgalley in return for my honest review.

This is the third and final book in the Angels Walking series. I honestly give this a 3.5. I am a huge Karen Kingsbury fan, and enjoy many of her novels. This one was enjoyable- just not my favorite. My favorite part of the Angels Walking series, and this one for certain, is the guardian angels set on missions to protect us and help God's plan come to fruition. It gives me chills to think how angels have worked in my life. This book mostly focuses on Mary Catherine and her health crisis. I like how Lexy is also brought into this book, as I have to say she is one of my favorite characters, and she is brought into this book in a major way. Of course Sami and Tyler are back, as well as Marcus. Marcus's strong personality and belief in God really shows in this book. The book as a sweet ending, which of course is enjoyable.

I am not entirely sure of why this book annoyed me at some parts. I am not even entirely sure annoyed is the best word. A certain diet plan seemed to be very pushed throughout the book, and I know by the third mention, I was rolling my eyes. I know God wants us to take care of our bodies, but it seemed like almost an advertisement put in the book. It took me longer to read this one then the past two in the trilogy. I was just not as eager. I really do like the cast of characters and it is bittersweet to know their story is done. It will be intersting to see what Karen Kingsbury has planned next!

Karen Kingsbury's books tend to go like this:

- interesting main character(s) with depth and intrigue.
- a slow-paced love story
- UNTIL... they get together. And then they get married immediately. And then there's a baby. Immediately. In twenty pages you're in cliche cheeseville, and I'm a vegan y'all. I don't do cheesy.

It's just so artificial, and it happens the same way (nearly) every time. Karen Kingsbury writes *so many books*, and it reads like she's in a rush to finish them. The ending is always so rushed and over the top.

And that's a bummer, because I loved the premise, that Mary Catherine is dying and not telling anyone, and instead is running off to Uganda because that's what she wants to do with the little time she has left. My heart was racing, I was nervous for her, and proud of her, and I wanted Marcus to get his ass in gear and go see her. But then she gets home, and two seconds into her hospital stay he proposes. And it goes downhill.

I don't know if I have acclimated to the writing style or I was just really determined to enjoy Mary Catherine "I need a heart transplant, but not as much as I need to fulfill my lifelong dream of volunteering at an orphanage in Uganda" Clark and everything about her story, but I was able to brush off most of what annoyed me and enjoy what I came for.

I do think the romance between her and Marcus is generally lovely, when they are not being over the top about religion, and I still adore her as a character on her own. Sami and their friendship, too. I see a lot of reviews complaining about MC's selfishness, but I felt nothing but empathy for her brave determination to see through her health issues on her own and not burden anyone else with the knowledge of her potentially imminent demise, even if she did a poor job of putting off Marcus.

Everything about angels hanging out chatting, God literally talking to people, the over the top praise of a low-carb diet like it is its own religion, and literal demons skittering around earth remains patently ridiculous, though.

Amazing love!

I finished this book a week ago and have been pondering it ever since. It was an emotional book for me as the heroine, Mary Catherine, is going through a tough health challenge and I am experiencing one with my husband. It was inspirational to see how angels and demons were at work in the lives of not only the main characters, Mary Catherine and Marcus, but also in the lives of the supporting characters. This book and the whole Angels Walking trilogy touched a deep part of my heart. These characters felt very real to me; I ached with them and rejoiced with them. The love story between Mary Catherine and Marcus was so poignant and beautiful. Marcus was truly a man of God and had an amazing love for Mary Catherine. I highly recommend this book and the Angels Walking series!

Mary Catherine moves to Uganda to work at a new orphanage. Whatever time she has left, she wants to spend it helping children. Major League Baseball player, Marcus Dillinger, fell in love with her. pushes him away since her heart is failing.

As usual, this story took me down the emotional road. We've adopted nine children, so this read has a special place in my heart. Add the fact, Mary Catherine's a weak heart, and a powerful story emerges. I loved it.

This was the third and last book of the series and i must say it was a good one. I do believe this is my all time favorite series by this author. This book was very sad though but Karen Kingsbury is known to pull the heart strings in her books and this one did not disappoint. I was rooting and praying right along for Mary Catherine. It amazes me how God's love and protection are always there for us, Prayer is the key. Thankful that He sends His angels to watch over us and keep us safe. LOVED THIS SERIES!
Sad that its over.

This third book in the Angels Walking Series was so good. Mary Catherine resists the feeling of love she has for Marcus and as her health problems increase, she heads to Uganda to work at a new orphanage. The book ends just as it should. Throughout the book, we are reminded that angels are really near and very real and that we only need to trust in God and allow Him to guide us each step, each day of our lives.

Amazing conclusion to the series.
SPOILERS
I understand why Mary Catherine didn't want to tell anyone about her condition, but it still felt just a little out of character for her, especially when she kept deteriorating in Africa. At the very least she wouldn't have signed on for another two months. But either way, I enjoyed the books, the character arcs, the angels' presence, and the way that events can tie together to make something amazing happen.

Such a great series about the behind the scenes of how God works in each of our lives. All our lives are connected and should encourage each other to follow God with all our hearts. Serve others from our hearts because God has called us to love. Overall, it was a great series and even though there were some predictable parts, the morals and lessons in the books were priceless.

This book really touched me. In fact, the whole series did. We don't think much about angels and how they look over us and protect us, and we certainly don't think about demons who are trying to destroy us. In fact, I sent an email to Karen telling her how much these books meant to me, and I don't usually write to authors.
This is a Christian book and of course talks about God's will for our lives, and the power of prayer, but it's not done in a preachy, moralizing tone at all.
This whole series is worth reading if you are feeling like you need more of God in your life and are wondering what your purpose is.
