Wow! Bella has dazzled us once more with A Wind of Change, the seventeenth release in the spellbinding mega-hit series, A Shade of Vampire by bestselling author Bella Forrest and she totally rocked my world - again! Like thousands of my fellow Shaddicts, I've been hooked from the very first book of the series and now anxiously await each release. I simply can't get enough! I was turning the pages so fast, my Kindle Fire couldn't keep up! Just when I think there's no way this series can get any better - wham - Bella hits us with another knockout! Bella has surprised us all with yet another exhilarating adventure that curls our toes and leaves us breathless, begging for more! This is a paranormal/supernatural/fantasy saga so unlike any other I've ever read. It is exciting, well crafted, original, unique, imaginative, thrilling, fast paced, riveting, action packed, mysterious, suspenseful, enchanting, heartbreaking, heartwarming, seductive and oh so romantic. Whew, what a mouthful, but these are only a few of the words that come to mind after reading this incredible chronicle of the Shade, its inhabitants and its enemies. Can you tell that I really love this story? The narrative is exceptionally well written in the first person with alternating points of view. Each chapter is told by one of the characters which I feel gives so much more depth, intensity and perspective to the story and adds to the complexity and understanding of the characters. The dialogue is smart, exceptionally well executed, well edited and flows effortlessly. Although the story is compelling and the dialogue is exceptional, it's truly the magnificent, comprehensive cast of larger than life characters that makes the biggest impact. They are well developed, captivating, intriguing, engaging, endearing and quite literally, out of this world sexy! They explode from the page, grab your imagination, capture your heart and hold you totally enthralled from beginning to end. Forrest skillfully combines these elements to craft a stunningly brilliant masterpiece of paranormal romance filled to the brim with action, adventure, fantasy, mystery, suspense, magic, supernatural beings, love, passion, loyalty, heartbreak, hope and plot twists that will blow your mind.

In Book Seventeen, the story shifts gears and centers primarily around newly turned vampire Ben Novak aka Joseph Brunson. Ben is the eighteen year old son of Derek and Sophia Novak, current King and Queen of The Shade. Ben was recently turned by his father in order to prevent him from being captured by enemies of the Shade but there were unforeseen complications to Ben's turning. He had an adverse reaction to his transformation and his system could not tolerate the ingestion of animal blood which is the primary source of food for the Shade's vampires. Unlike the other vampires of The Shade, Ben can't seem to control his bloodlust for human blood. After attacking and killing a human resident who was also his friend, Ben secretly left the island in order to protect his family and friends. After a dangerous turn of events in Chile, Ben finds himself in need of assistance and calls upon a new acquaintance for help. He, unwittingly, winds up at The Oasis which is now currently under the control of Jeremiah who Ben discovers after the fact is actually the son of Ben's evil deceased uncle, Lucas Novak. And.....he's now a prisoner at The Oasis! Oh no! Oh yes! But to the residents of The Oasis, Ben is known only as Joseph Brunson. Fortunately for Ben, there is one ray of hope. He meets seventeen year old River Giovanni, an Italian/Lebanese American from Manhattan. And as a result, a new hero is born and the saga of The Shade continues with a new adventure on the horizon. Beautiful human heroine who gets caught up in what she thought to be only fantasy and fairy tales-check! Danger, drama, adventure, suspense and mind blowing plot twists- you bet! A possible romance for Ben-we'll see!!! That and a whole lot more! I love it! I never tire of visiting my friends of 'The Shade'. It always feels like returning home. If you love heart-wrenching young adult paranormal romance, heartbreaking angst, tantalizing magic, out of this world fantasy, spine-tingling suspense, hold your breath action, malevolent enemies, evil machinations, unexpected plot twists and heart-pounding adventure, then you will surely enjoy A Shade of Vampire series. Buckle up my lovelies! It's another wild, wonderful and thrilling ride! Please keep in mind, this is a series - not a stand alone story and the books should be read in order of their release - and it does contain nail biting cliffhangers that will leave you on the edge of your seat panting for more - which I love! Bella always keeps us on our toes but lovingly rewards our patience with each new release. Well done, Bella, very well done! I can hardly wait to read what happens next with Derek, Sophia, Caleb, Rose, Ben and all the other wonderful residents of the Shade when the adventure continues in Book 18! Charmingly captivating, seriously sexy, powerfully compelling and delightfully entertaining!!!

I was really disappointed that this starts out with a (beware, I was told this is a spoiler and I would ruin the whole book) brand new character we have never ever heard of. This girl gets like 3 or 4 chapters before we even get to Ben! THIS IS HIS DAMN STORY! I HATED reading Rose's story and I kept reading to get to Ben but do I get Ben?! No, I get some chick named River who I honestly don't care about. I wanted this to be Ben's story, not River and Ben. Who in the hell is River anyways?! I wanted more Ben. He is the reason I kept reading thru Rose's story. Can you tell I wanted more Ben?!

The overall story wasn't bad, it was actually decent (next book better have way more Ben). It is a typical Bella Forest book with so many unanswered questions and one hell of a cliffhanger. I will read the next book even tho I have been told that I shouldn't since "I struggled reading Rose's story and didn't really like this book". Blah.

Ben Novak

Ben is the son of Sophia Novak. After being turned into a vampire he leaves the shade and for a year goes on a bloody rampage.

He meets a fellow vampire and they form a bond and make their way to settle on an island. Ben soon finds out who Jeremiah is when he comes across a stone with an inscription on it. He realizes now that he needs to leave the island at all costs.

I must say I started reading this book but just couldn't finish it...it was that boring!!! And I am very disappointed in Bella because this series has always kept me reading till the end,so engrossed but this book?? Smh the prologue was ok but the new character they brought in was a drag...I skipped chapters ,even when I reached apart where Ben and new character met ..it was still boring...I couldn't finish it...gravely disappointed.....

I'm a huge fan of the series, however it took me quite a few chapters to really get into this book. Once I did it was kinda predictable. I do like the addition of River and hopefully as the series continues it will draw me back in like the beginning books did.

Une nouvelle aventure qui se centre sur le personnage de Ben, toujours prisonnier de l'Oasis et une petite nouvelle : River, une humaine qui va se retrouver transformée malgré elle en demi sang. Le tome se centre sur ce nouveau personnage, différent de Sofia et de Rose (ce qui est une bonne chose) et assez attachante. J'ai apprécié découvrir les vampires à travers le regard de River et, comme Ben, je suis très intriguée par le personnage de Jeremiah et j'ai du mal à suivre où il veut en venir (même si je pense qu'il est au courant de la véritable identité de Ben). Le tome est bien mené, on ne s'ennuie pas et les nouveaux personnages (enfin surtout River) sont intéressants (et ça fait du bien d'échapper un peu à Rose et Sofia)


Ce que j'aime : le personnage de River, prometteur et Jeremiah


Ce que j'aime moins : les tomes sont courts et on retrouve souvent le même schéma

Another fantastic book from Bella Forrest! I can't describe how much I love this series and can't believe I didn't continue along with Ben and River's story sooner! I did love Rose and Caleb's story but in the back of my mind have always wondered what Ben was going through. I love all of the characters and I remember all of them some how, her writing just clicks with me! Sure I mark the characters when we get introduced to them, but some how I remember these books so well! They honestly feel like my family and I adore this series! There is always something going on and so much happens in each book I fly through them! 5 out of 5 read for me! :)
(I obviously can't give a summary because this is book 17 in the series and so much happens I don't want to spoil a SINGLE thing haha! Her books are honestly my favorite and she is in the top 3 for favorite authors! I love this series with my whole heart <3)

Loved

Ben is adjusting to living at The Oasis; barely. He can't escape, he's tried already, so he needs to earn Jeremiah's trust so he can leave when they go hunt for humans.

Meanwhile, River and her sisters is visiting her Grandfather in Cairo for vacation. He has a surprise for them, camping in the desert to help with an excavation. When River Giovanni sees her little sister being kidnapped by a mysterious person, she's determined to find her. Only to run into the barrier of The Oasis where 2 vampires grab her.

They turn her into a half-breed, not a full vampire but still immortal. River is the only person there who can contain Ben's bloodlust. The taste of her now bitter vampire blood distracts him from the smell of human blood. So now they are inseparable.

They just need to escape his cousin because Ben knows that something's not quite right at The Oasis.

At the Oasis, he goes by the name of Joseph.

Joesph has nothing and is defined by his patience to explore and escape The Oasis. This Oasis is not the pleasant change it is perceived to be, so what is it?

Is Jeremiah’s apparent casual connection with Joseph just an occurrence of two people meeting or did he intend all along to have two paths cross in time..?


Readers: have patience with the first few chapters, the background of each character is vital to the plot. This instalment just got crazy interesting!

A new take

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a book that didn’t focus on the shade but I really enjoyed it. The introduction of River is great, hopefully she can be to Ben what Sophia was to Derek when he struggled to control himself. Lots of seeds planted for mysteries to be unraveled. I’m looking forward to reading the next one and seeing however everything unfolds. I hope the shade is featured more though!

Bens journey continues. New characters are thrown in and it make things more interesting. All the others are back and everyone seamlessly adds their little grain to make everything g as smooth and as crazy as we’ve grown accustomed too.

Ben & River are fabulous

In this book we are taken mainly on a journey with Ben as he ends up at The Oasis and this is where he meets the amazing River. The story drags at times, but it's still worth a read and I'll be definitely reading the next in the series.
