From prolific writing duo Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood comes a high-stakes heist for a former operative, whose dying daughter’s only saving grace is a virus that’s about to be eliminated.
Scott Miller has the skills and desperation required to save his daughter’s life. The only cure for her terminal disease is the deadly GIRV-7 virus, locked in a secured Malaysian skyscraper and slated to be destroyed. With his ex-wife guiding the mission from his earpiece, Scott must breach the lab, protect the biohazard container, and outrun the criminal organization that has their own agenda. And Scott’s in their way.
Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood’s Tower Fall is part of Pursuit, a gripping collection of short stories that explore what it means to be predator and prey … and what it takes to gain the upper hand. Read or listen to each pulse-pounding story in a single sitting—and an intense adrenaline rush.

Mark Greaney has a degree in International Relations and Political Science. In researching The Gray Man series he traveled to ten countries and trained extensively in the use of firearms, battlefield medicine, and close range combative tactics.
The atmosphere is tense from the start, but without enough context about the characters or what's at stake, I struggled to feel invested. There were tense moments, but they lacked the emotional impact they needed.
The ending was fine, and Luke Daniels' narration was very good, but the story didn't quite reach its potential.
Thank you to Mark Greaney, Joshua Hood, Brilliance Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this ALC. All opinions are my own.
Standalone short story, by Mark Greaney, but also Joshua Hood.

A good quick, well paced short story, read in one evening.
Not sure why two authors for a story of 66 pages. But enjoyed it
This was an audio short story - part of the Amazon Pursuit Collection - that takes us on a full speed journey in the middle of a Malaysian high-rise.
MMC Scott Miller - a former special operator - is in the middle of a desperate operation where he is attempting to infiltrate a BioLab in order to steal a virus that is a potential bio weapon. The problem is that he isn’t the only one with that intention on this particular evening.
Things go from zero to one hundred and the action does not let up until the very end.
Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood are two authors that I enjoy and it was fun to see them team up for this story. It was narrated by Luke Daniel’s, who also happens to be a particular favorite narrator of mine so it was a winning trifecta :)

A Short Ride With a Few Unexpected Turns
Sometimes you just need a short, action-packed thriller that gets straight to the point, keeps you engaged, and reminds you that love can make people do some pretty wild things. Tower Fall delivered exactly that. Miller is on a mission to break into a Malaysian building and steal a deadly virus strain. Sounds like your typical high-stakes thriller, right? Except there's a twist: this isn't about money, power, or some grand scheme to unleash a biological weapon. This virus holds the key to saving his daughter's life. And when your child's life is on the line, how far is too far? I really enjoyed the premise because, as wild as it sounds, it actually makes sense within the story. When you're desperate to save someone you love, the line between right and wrong can get a whole lot blurrier. And as a parent? Whew. That's a whole different conversation!
The pacing was another highlight for me. The story moves along at a steady clip, and Mark Greaney's writing made it easy to get caught up in the action. I knew I would enjoy his writing, and he didn't disappoint. The story is short, but it doesn't feel like it's wasting time trying to get where it needs to go. We're right there with Miller as he works his way through the mission, and, of course, things don't go quite as smoothly as planned. Because when has a high-stakes operation ever gone exactly according to plan? And just when you think everything is wrapping up nicely, the story throws in another little hiccup. You think you're about to ride off into the sunset, everything wrapped up with a neat little bow, and then—hold on a minute! There's one more thing to deal with. I enjoyed those little unexpected turns because they kept the ending from feeling too straightforward.
What I appreciated most, though, was the question at the heart of the story: What are you willing to sacrifice for the people you love? How far would you go when the stakes couldn't possibly be higher? It's an interesting moral dilemma, and the story gives you just enough to chew on without slowing down the action.
Overall, Tower Fall was a fun, fast-paced thriller that knew exactly what it wanted to be. It's a short ride, but an entertaining one, with a compelling premise, solid writing, and a few surprises along the way. Sometimes a book doesn't need to be long to make its point. It just needs to get in, do its job, and leave you satisfied. This one did that for me!
As a massive Mark Greaney fan, jumping into Tower Fall felt like coming home, and I was so excited to finally experience Joshua Hood’s writing—and let me tell you, he did NOT disappoint! Part of the Amazon Pursuit Collection, this short, adrenaline-fueled ride drops you straight into the middle of a high-stakes operation in a Malaysian high-rise. Sometimes you just need a fast-paced thriller that gets right to the point, keeps your heart pounding, and reminds you of the wild, unhinged things people will do for the ones they love.
You all know my golden rule: I never spoil a thriller, so you're completely safe with me! What I can tell you is that Scott Miller, a former special operator, is on a desperate, high-risk mission to infiltrate a BioLab and retrieve a deadly bioweapon. The catch? He is definitely not the only person breaking in that night. Add the fact that he is racing against the clock to save his daughter's life, and the stakes instantly hit absolute critical mass.
Things go from zero to one hundred in a heartbeat, and the non-stop action does not let up until the very last page. The pacing is razor-sharp and steady, making it ridiculously easy to get completely swept away in the chaos.
What I appreciated most was the emotional gut-punch at the heart of the story: How far would you go when the stakes couldn't possibly be higher? What would you sacrifice for your family? It presents an irresistible moral dilemma that gives you just enough depth to chew on without ever hitting the brakes on the action.
And if you listen on audio, Luke Daniels’ narration takes this high-octane thriller to a whole new level. He commands the mic with effortless authority, delivering razor-sharp intensity, crisp tactical precision, and distinct character voices that keep your pulse racing from start to finish. Luke knows exactly how to dial up the tension, giving every tactical move pure blockbuster energy while anchoring the raw, desperate emotion of a father fighting for his child.
Tower Fall was a punchy, electric thriller that knew exactly what it wanted to be. It is a quick ride, but an extraordinarily entertaining one packed with crisp writing, intense tension, and a few brilliant surprises along the way.
Thank you to Mark Greaney, Joshua Hood, Brillance Publishing, Amazon Original Stories and NetGalley for the ALC.
3.5 stars Thanks to Net Galley and Brilliance Publishing for the early preview of this audiobook.
This was the last book I was able to obtain from the Pursuit Collection from Net Galley. There is one more short story that I was not able to obtain, but that is ok. I think I have had my share of short-story-thriller-fiction books for a little while. I did enjoy this one and I enjoyed the story line along with the character buildups. It may have been a bit too short that did not allow it to give the main characters enough backstory, but I guess that happens in short stories. I feel like this would make for a really fun movie if it were to be adapted.
Audiobook narrator Luke Daniels rating: 4.25 stars Luke Daniels is one of my favorite narrators, and he did well in this book. Perhaps it could have been a bit better (he has done better in other books I have listened to), but it still made the story more enjoyable.
This is a Review of an advance copy received from NetGalley.
I’m a fan on Mark Greaney and his work on the Gray Man Series. Once I discovered this short series collection for Amazon I was intrigued. Especially seeing a bunch of great authors.
The story is very intriguing as a man works with his ex to break into a building to steal a deadly bio material that can either be deadly or used to help. Once the story revealed why he was trying to steal it I could help root for the guy.
These stores from this series are very unique and give enough character and plot details for the reader to care but keep the story tight and focused. My only complaint to any of them is I want more. But this story was very good and very well written.
Highly recommend this and all other shorts to readers of the authors and thriller fans!
This fantastic action thriller is about a theft attempt of a virus by a man whose daughter needs it to survive. However it is set to be destroyed because it could be modified to a bio weapon. Of course, he isn’t the only one who wants it.
This short story is similar to Die Hard - tall building, glass shattering, floor under construction, family member in danger. But the tale is compacted into about an hour and the pace never lets up.
I enjoyed it and would recommend it to action thriller lovers.
Well read by Luke Daniels.
Not family friendly due to profanity and the violence expected in this genre.
Thanks to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Mark Greaney’s entry in the Pursuit Series (a series of 6 short stories by different authors) creates the perfect setup to fulfill the purpose of the series. The Pursuit Series has authors creating stories where a protagonist is being pursued by an adversary.
Greaney’s story, “Tower Fall”, is creates an anxiety-inducing environment because our protagonist is not breaking into the tower for wealth, but a different type of personal gain, his daughter’s life.
This is so good. Because when it comes to the life of your child, you will do anything to save their life.
I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.
This short story is part of the Pursuit Collection that explores characters who are both the predator and the prey.
Scott Miller's daughter is dying from Tindo fever and the only cure is the deadly GIRV-7 virus. This story follows him as he breaks into the tower where the virus is stored and set to be destroyed. It isn't an easy task as there is another organizations that wants the virus.
There's plenty of suspense and danger as Scott tries to evade the criminal organization and get the virus to his daughter.
Tower Fall, by Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood, is a great novella that follows a man forced into a difficult mission to save his daughter's life. These two authors create impressive suspense in this short story. They get you to feel the struggles of a father as he fights to break in and steal a virus. At the same time, a nefarious organization attacks the building, and he must protect the container and escape to help his daughter. Two great authors, one great story.
Thank you to NetGalley, Mark Greaney, Joshua Hood, and Amazon Original Stories for letting me listen to this advance copy.
I’m convinced Mark Greaney is the greatest modern thriller author alive, and just about everything he touches is gold.
Tower Fall co-written with Joshua Hood, is another excellent example: a fast-paced, action-packed 66-page thriller about an ex-elite agent stealing a virus that could save his terminally ill daughter.
It may not have the depth of Greaney’s full-length novels, but it delivers exactly what a great short story should. Would I have preferred a full-length novel? Absolutely. Still, this is a thoroughly entertaining read.
I don't often listen to short stories, and when I do, it is usually involving characters I'm already familiar with. That wasn't the case with Scott Miller in Tower Fall. Greaney (one of my favorite authors through the Gray Man series) and Hall did a great job of creating a character and a mission I cared about in such a short period of time. I also enjoyed the narration. His voice carried the appropriate amount of tension without being melodramatic. Great story!
Another great addition to the Pursuit series! It is a fast-paced read that grabs you on the first page and is powered by non-stop action and a taut, emotional narrative. The many twists and turns in the story make it a real page turner that makes it hard to put the book down.
Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing who provided me with a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
How much bang can Greany and Hood pack in this short novel!?!? My palms were sweating from beginning to end. I would love for them to come up with more Miller and Eve stories. They can be the next Mr and Mrs Smith. Would love to read more about their initial encounter, their work together, why they divorced, and what is next for them after saving their daughter. Great characters. Outstanding action.
Have you ever attempted to do something important to you and Murphy shows up at every turn? How important must something be to keep you motivated to keep going? While short stories in general have limited character development by definition, Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood do an outstanding job framing a situation in which Scott Miller must just keep going no matter the odds. A quick read that will keep your attention.
Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood some of my favorite thriller authors, crafted a perfectly thrilling and tense short story.
In the first book of the Pursuit Collection of short story thrillers, a thief has to steal from a bio lab. The caveat, it's on the 27th floor and he isn't the only one interested in what he's come for.
My 2nd Pursuit thriller that i zipped thru and loved, after Bushido. Plenty of action and no time to goof around. Mission first! Quick reads, with well written stories, plots, and characters. Already downloaded Flesh and Blood, by Don Bentley. Pursuit titles are Free to read on Kindle+ (formerly ~ Kindle Unlimited) and available to buy for $0.99.
A man breaks into a bio lab to steal an antidote needed to save his daughter’s life. The story was filled with action and, I’m sorry, it was too unbelievable. I normally enjoy Greaney’s stories but this one, though well written, had just too many superhuman feats. To say that it filled a bit of time is probably the most positive thing I can say.
The book, mission, and characters reminds me of a good Mission Impossible movie with all the action from the beginning and ending and barely any slow down in the middle to catch the main plot. Quite the entrance going in through windows from high up and exiting through a construction trash chute. Fun read where the only draw back is it's too short.
This is a great quick read that I enjoyed from start to finish. This quick read is action packed and kept me interested. I just wish that it was a little longer so that the ending didn't seem rushed. Overall, an enjoyable read that I would recommend to others.
I loved every single minute of this nail biter!! I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did such an amazing job of dropping you into the story and making you feel every single thing - it was so good!! Highly, highly recommend!!
This is a brilliant gripping action packed short story that you just can’t put down. A pair of retired government agents are forced to attempt this one last life or death job and they cannot fail no matter what or who gets in their way A truly masterful nerve wracking short story by the excellent author pairing of Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood.
an effective short story, but i do wish this had more time to cook. as tropey as the action is, i think Miller is a fun main character, and i wish Eve was able to get more development. very cinematic, great use of the environment. but it really needed something more
This was a really good story! As is the problem for me with most short stories is I WANT MORE! I want to know the backstory between the characters and everything going on in this world. Other than that though it was very well done by the authors.
Well written exciting. Good storyline. Leaves you wanting more of the story!! this is the first of these authors I have read, but I will definitely read more!!
