From prolific writing duo Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood comes a high-stakes heist for a former operative, whose dying daughter’s only saving grace is a virus that’s about to be eliminated.
Scott Miller has the skills and desperation required to save his daughter’s life. The only cure for her terminal disease is the deadly GIRV-7 virus, locked in a secured Malaysian skyscraper and slated to be destroyed. With his ex-wife guiding the mission from his earpiece, Scott must breach the lab, protect the biohazard container, and outrun the criminal organization that has their own agenda. And Scott’s in their way.
Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood’s Tower Fall is part of Pursuit, a gripping collection of short stories that explore what it means to be predator and prey … and what it takes to gain the upper hand. Read or listen to each pulse-pounding story in a single sitting—and an intense adrenaline rush.

Mark Greaney has a degree in International Relations and Political Science. In researching The Gray Man series he traveled to ten countries and trained extensively in the use of firearms, battlefield medicine, and close range combative tactics.
The atmosphere is tense from the start, but without enough context about the characters or what's at stake, I struggled to feel invested. There were tense moments, but they lacked the emotional impact they needed.
The ending was fine, and Luke Daniels' narration was very good, but the story didn't quite reach its potential.
Thank you to Mark Greaney, Joshua Hood, Brilliance Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this ALC. All opinions are my own.
This was an audio short story - part of the Amazon Pursuit Collection - that takes us on a full speed journey in the middle of a Malaysian high-rise.
MMC Scott Miller - a former special operator - is in the middle of a desperate operation where he is attempting to infiltrate a BioLab in order to steal a virus that is a potential bio weapon. The problem is that he isn’t the only one with that intention on this particular evening.
Things go from zero to one hundred and the action does not let up until the very end.
Mark Greaney and Joshua Hood are two authors that I enjoy and it was fun to see them team up for this story. It was narrated by Luke Daniel’s, who also happens to be a particular favorite narrator of mine so it was a winning trifecta :)

A Short Ride With a Few Unexpected Turns
Sometimes you just need a short, action-packed thriller that gets straight to the point, keeps you engaged, and reminds you that love can make people do some pretty wild things. Tower Fall delivered exactly that. Miller is on a mission to break into a Malaysian building and steal a deadly virus strain. Sounds like your typical high-stakes thriller, right? Except there's a twist: this isn't about money, power, or some grand scheme to unleash a biological weapon. This virus holds the key to saving his daughter's life. And when your child's life is on the line, how far is too far? I really enjoyed the premise because, as wild as it sounds, it actually makes sense within the story. When you're desperate to save someone you love, the line between right and wrong can get a whole lot blurrier. And as a parent? Whew. That's a whole different conversation!
The pacing was another highlight for me. The story moves along at a steady clip, and Mark Greaney's writing made it easy to get caught up in the action. I knew I would enjoy his writing, and he didn't disappoint. The story is short, but it doesn't feel like it's wasting time trying to get where it needs to go. We're right there with Miller as he works his way through the mission, and, of course, things don't go quite as smoothly as planned. Because when has a high-stakes operation ever gone exactly according to plan? And just when you think everything is wrapping up nicely, the story throws in another little hiccup. You think you're about to ride off into the sunset, everything wrapped up with a neat little bow, and then—hold on a minute! There's one more thing to deal with. I enjoyed those little unexpected turns because they kept the ending from feeling too straightforward.
What I appreciated most, though, was the question at the heart of the story: What are you willing to sacrifice for the people you love? How far would you go when the stakes couldn't possibly be higher? It's an interesting moral dilemma, and the story gives you just enough to chew on without slowing down the action.
Overall, Tower Fall was a fun, fast-paced thriller that knew exactly what it wanted to be. It's a short ride, but an entertaining one, with a compelling premise, solid writing, and a few surprises along the way. Sometimes a book doesn't need to be long to make its point. It just needs to get in, do its job, and leave you satisfied. This one did that for me!

I’m a fan on Mark Greaney and his work on the Gray Man Series. Once I discovered this short series collection for Amazon I was intrigued. Especially seeing a bunch of great authors.
The story is very intriguing as a man works with his ex to break into a building to steal a deadly bio material that can either be deadly or used to help. Once the story revealed why he was trying to steal it I could help root for the guy.
These stores from this series are very unique and give enough character and plot details for the reader to care but keep the story tight and focused. My only complaint to any of them is I want more. But this story was very good and very well written.
Highly recommend this and all other shorts to readers of the authors and thriller fans!
Mark Greaney’s entry in the Pursuit Series (a series of 6 short stories by different authors) creates the perfect setup to fulfill the purpose of the series. The Pursuit Series has authors creating stories where a protagonist is being pursued by an adversary.
Greaney’s story, “Tower Fall”, is creates an anxiety-inducing environment because our protagonist is not breaking into the tower for wealth, but a different type of personal gain, his daughter’s life.
This is so good. Because when it comes to the life of your child, you will do anything to save their life.

I don't often listen to short stories, and when I do, it is usually involving characters I'm already familiar with. That wasn't the case with Scott Miller in Tower Fall. Greaney (one of my favorite authors through the Gray Man series) and Hall did a great job of creating a character and a mission I cared about in such a short period of time. I also enjoyed the narration. His voice carried the appropriate amount of tension without being melodramatic. Great story!
This is a great quick read that I enjoyed from start to finish. This quick read is action packed and kept me interested. I just wish that it was a little longer so that the ending didn't seem rushed. Overall, an enjoyable read that I would recommend to others.
