Author Stacy McWilliams creates a world of suspense and horror as Jasmine Johnstone's life is up ended. The reader feels Jasmine's terror as she is thrust into a world vastly different then she has ever know. We see the pain and suffering as well as the attraction she feels for Nathan.
McWilliams tells a tale that sticks with the reader wondering about the possibility of demons and what lies in Jasmine's future.

The YA novel is book 1 in the Escaping Demons Saga, but I suggest you also read Nathan's story Candlelight as well to glean more about his story and his role in Jasmine's life.

From the very beginning of this story I was completely drawn into this evil world of demons and darkness with a underlying doomed teenage romance.
This story took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions and also trying to keep up with Nathan... One minute he is helping and trying not to hurt her and in a split second he turns evil and violent, though some is for show and his and Jasmines safety.
Add in the typical mean high school girl click who are also demons and I found myself cringing in fear for poor Jasmine and all the bullying and abuse.
I found myself relating Jasmines story to a very dark demonic Cinderella, abusive foster parents, who were constantly handing out chores between physical abuse, a very evil foster sister and a whole school full of abusive violent demons, with Nathan as the dark prince trying to sweep in to save her.
The excellent writing by the talented Stacy McWilliams had me feeling like I was pulled into a scary world of demons one minute and then hoping that Jasmine and Nathan could somehow find a way to be together and still come out alive in the young adult romance world.
I would definitely recommend reading this story, but a small warning there is a lot of violence both physical and emotional, so if you are looking for a light happily ever after read this may not be for you.
I can not wait to start Ignition, the next book in the Escaping Demons Saga, and see where Nathan and Jasmine's story will take me.

Luminosity is Book 1 in the Escaping Demons Saga by Stacy McWilliams. The author of this book is amazing at writing about the paranormal, and she is great at explaining backstory.
Jasmine Johnstone has had a hard life. Every since she was 5 and her parents were killed she has been bounced around from family to family. Her relatives declined to take her in, leaving her to grow up in foster care. At the age of twelve she was taken in by a family she grew to love, there she stayed til she was 17. One day her social worker showed up to announce that she would be moving and there was nothing any of them could do to prevent it.
She didn't know at the time just what was at play. She is sent to live with the stevensons, yet none of them seemed particularly thrilled with her arrival. Now she faces the fact that not everything in the world was as it seems. The world survives around a paranormal, that harbors things that go bump in the night. Thus, we meet Nathan, her foster brother, who feels drawn to. Though things with Nathan tend to change with the wind, she feels a strong connection with him. When things start to go from feeling unwanted to just plain weird she has no idea who to trust. Who do you turn to when you starting seeing things that you don't understand if it is real or just in your head? Can love be enough to help keep you safe, or is the person you love the one you should fear the most.
At the beginning I was having a hard time with the paranormal aspect, but as I got farther and farther into the book the mystery aspect really captured my attention.

Luminosity by Stacy McWilliams
3 Stars
For Jasmine’s whole life she just wanted to fit in and have a family who loved her. Her parents died when she was young and she was forced from one foster home to another. She finally had foster parents who loved her, a caring home and some friends when she was once again moved. Living with the Stevenson’s was literally hell on earth. Not only was she made to clean the house and serve their guests as if she was hired help but they beat her regularly. Jasmine couldn’t understand how her life had turned into an unending nightmare. To make matters worse, she started seeing horrible creatures everywhere. Vile beings who were trying to kill her. Everyday became a challenge to stay alive and survive the constant beatings. She never fathomed her life turning out like this.
Jasmine’s one ray of light through this hell was Nathan. The only one to ever show her any tenderness. She lost her heart to him. Yet as tender as he could be, he was just as cruel. One minute holding her, the next cursing her. He told her she meant more to him than the breath he took yet he had a girlfriend. It was an emotional roller coaster that she couldn’t get off. Could her love shine light on his demon within?
I have to admit that this book frustrated me tremendously. Though the Stevenson’s wanted Jasmine protected from harm, they seemed to hurt her the most. Every beating getting more violent than the next, with her ending up hospitalized. It made no sense to me. It was interesting watching Nathan struggle with his demon side as his love for Jasmine grew.

Luminosity
4 Stars

Luminosity by Stacy McWilliams is the first book in the Escaping Demons Saga. If you haven't read Candlelight I suggest you doing so before reading this. It follows Jasmine Johnstone and Nathan Stevenson and their journey of demons, mythical creatures, and their attraction that could be deadly to both of them.

Jasmine Johnstone hasn't had an easy life so far. Her parents were killed just shy of her 5th birthday which put into foster care. She bounced around from home to home just trying to fit in and always failing to do so. The last home she was in it was the best. When she found out she was being taken to a different family, she was devastated. She's always had a sixth sense when it comes to people so when she met the Stevenson’s, she felt something was way off. Boy was she right-the way the Stevenson's treated her made her feel worthless. Between the physical and mental abuse, the head games and the whiplash she got from Nathan confused her more then anything. Will Jasmine be able to survive when it seems everyone wants her dead?

This book was so good! Even though Nathan was back and forth so much, I understood the why behind it. At times, Jasmine frustrated me because she took so much abuse and would contradict herself a lot. I think Ms. McWilliams has a vivid imagination and created a wonderful fictional world. I hope Jasmine finds her inner strength and gives the Stevenson’s what they deserve. I can't wait to read Ignition next!

Luminosity by Stacy McWilliams
4/5 Stars

The first book in the Escaping Demons Series written by Stacy McWilliams, Luminosity will emerge you into the world of a teenage orphan named Jasmine. Finally feeling like she has found her forever home, she awakens one day to learn she is being moved to a new family. Upon arrival at the Stevenson's home she feels like her luck may have changed when she sees the grand house they live in. But as soon as the social worker leaves and she meets the mother, father and three teen children, she instantly knows that something is off about the situation there. Thinking the family to be abusive to her, she sees that's only the tip of the ice burg when she starts school and finds every one there equally as abusive as those at home. Follow along as the strange chemistry of Jasmine and the youngest son Nathan begins to unravel the mysteries that surround the family and their friends. Will love he enough to save her, or will she be destined to meet the fate the family has planned for her.
Stacy McWilliams writes with a edge that will keep you turning the pages until you reach the end. Paranormal fiction at its best!

I can't understand how this is getting so many good reviews. To just sit there and allow people to mentally and physically abuse you, I just don't get it. Surely anyway is better than there. Why would you stay? It was just disturbing to read, I would've stopped reading early on, but I kept thinking she would toughen up and kick the hell out of them, but nope. Will not be continuing this series.

I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, I’m not sure what to say about Luminosity by Stacy McWilliams. I liked it. The plot was a somewhat new idea, I was curious as to what was happening, and for a few short hours, I was thoroughly entertained—but that doesn’t mean that it was necessarily a good book.

The book was riddled with typos—and I mean a lot of them. There were missing words, spelling problems, even words that were used in the wrong context. Although the writing was fairly clear and easy to read, the plot left me baffled. Half the time I didn’t know what was going on and there were no explanations forthcoming. The “romance” between Nathan and Jasmine was painfully contrived and woefully neglected for the first half of the book. It felt like I spent the majority of the book watching this poor, orphaned kid getting smacked around by basically everyone she met.I lost count of how many head injuries she received, but I’d bet you it was over half a dozen—and she barely stuck up for herself, tried to run away, or otherwise defended herself in any manner. She never even actively tried to figure out what was going on around her, even though she knew something very strange and very bad was definitely going down. Jasmine was a punching bag.

So why did I like it? I’m not sure. I guess I liked it because I keep hoping that there’s going to be more explanation. I keep hoping Nathan’s going to do something risky and beautiful to save Jasmine’s life. It’s all hope. I’m going to keep reading the series, and who knows? Maybe something will be explained in the second book. This definitely isn’t going to be for everyone, but if you’re looking for something different and dark, and you have a high tolerance for confusion, you may be interested in this book. Just be aware that this one needs a high trigger warning for people who’ve suffered emotional or physical abuse. It’s going to make you mad.

This story was full of good and bad qualities. I like the idea of a community of soul-eating demons living among themselves as they battle ferocious beasts, and the fact that they can masquerade as humans is a major perk. The characters are complicated beings who do a good job at confusing and infuriating you, and the monsters pose a significant threat to Jasmine's life, but they aren't the only ones.

Every single "person" in this community has it out for Jasmine, and they abuse her like nothing I've ever seen.

In my opinion, that was the worst thing about this book. What could have been an interesting tale ended up being about a teenager risking everything for the love of a boy. I mean, Jasmine suffered severe mental, emotional, and physical abuse at the hands of her community, but she stays with them anyway because Nathan "might" love her.

And Nathan is the worst of all. He keeps stringing Jasmine along, professing his love one moment and treating her cruelly the next. I mean, what kind of lover would pull a wounded girl by the hair in anger but apologize for it the next? Oh yeah, an abusive one.

And Jasmine lets him.

This story tries to imply that Jasmine has all this power, but we never get to see any of it. All we see is an abused, confused girl who refuses to leave a situation she saw coming miles away. Not terribly inspiring.

I don't mean to be harsh, but Jasmine's refusal to leave the abuse just irked me. No man is worth that much pain and confusion. I don't care if he is your soulmate...if he and his family are that abusive towards you, you need to get out.

Fortunately, this is the first book in a series. Maybe Jasmine matures over the next few books and realizes that she strong enough to leave Nathan and his abuse behind.

If there's one thing I love it's an unreliable narrator and Stacy McWilliams has got it down!
Jasmine's narration throughout the story means that the reader never knows what to believe or who to trust and raises so many questions.
The main characters are really loveable and I can't wait to learn more about them in the next book.
As the first of the series, a lot of questions are raised in this story and it's a great introduction into McWilliams' own world she's created.

Luminosity is the story of Jasmine Johnstone and the unusual turn events she’s experiencing. Her parents were killed before she turned 5, and since then she’s been through several foster families. Just when she thought she had found her new family, she’s forced to live with the Stevenson’s. Immediately, things with her new “family” are weird, but she longs to belong and find her final home. But even Jasmine can’t deny things are not normal with her family and new school. Jasmine begins seeing strange, horrible things, but is not sure if any of it is real. She also can’t deny her growing attraction to foster brother, Nathan. Nathan’s attitude towards Jasmine runs hot and cold, but they continue to find themselves drawn to each other. As Jasmine continues to face danger, can she rely on Nathan to help her or drag her down?

I’ll admit; when I started reading this book, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. It felt like I was reading a scary movie (which I’m not a big fan of anymore; getting older has made me a weenie!). But as I continued reading, I kept asking myself “What the hell is going on here?!?!”, and I was glued to the pages. I think it’s a testament to the writer and her storytelling ability to be able to draw me into it and not let me go. I think my main negative for the story is the continuous abuse – both physical and mental – that Jasmine experiences. Although it does begin to make sense why Jasmine is subjected to it, as one continues reading, for me personally it was just so hard to read at times. I was also fighting against Jasmine and Nathan’s relationship for a while – he was either super nice or insanely mean to her! But again, once we figure out why his behavior is so crazy, it totally makes sense and I’m on board!

I’d very much recommend this book for those who like their paranormal stories a bit more on the dark side. I am looking forward to reading the companion novella, Candlelight, and any other book of the series. I’m very much keeping my eye on this one!

But....

Look at that! Not even Cas wants to deal with this!......
Just kidding...

Seriously though, I wanted to rate this book more than 3 stars. I really did. But there is just something about it. It just kept me so angry that I truly and honestly couldn't enjoy this book.
I can not for the life of me understand why she would put up with abuse from these people. Why wouldn't she fight back? She says so many times that she is going to fight back, and literally right after she says that, she ends up with a fist in her face.
.....It also left me with a lot more questions than answers. For example, why the social worker didn't see what was going on (unless she must have been one of the demons) or ...and I know this question is going to be really stupid, but... how is she getting money to buy things when she doesn't have a after school job and the family hates her.
And then there is her power of throwing a guy off her to the point he flies through the air.... wheeeeeere did that come from? O.o

I wanted to enjoy the book so much, and it kept me sucked in where I didn't want to put it down, but for the sake of my health and not flying off the handle and breaking my kindle, I had to put it down quite a lot. And even when I finished it, i had to sleep a while before I could even put my thoughts together.......yet they are still scattered. lol

I like the MC, I do. I want to see her grow. I want to see her fight back. I want so much for her, I really really really hope she doesn't keep letting bad things happen to her, I hope she kicks her demon guy to the curb and drowns him in Holy Water.
I doubt that will happen though. Poor girl is on a one way trip to hell to satisfy a scummy demon. :(

Luminosity kicks off where Candlelight ended, and is told from Jasmine’s POV. This is where we meet Jasmine. She is taken from a safe and caring home, straight into the Twilight Zone.

Jasmine endures constant rejection and violence from almost everyone she comes into contact with after she was forced to move in with the Stevensons. Even Nathan, who is supposed to protect her, and whose hot and cold attitude toward her, is in on these cruel and seemingly senseless attacks. She is baffled as to why they are treating her this way.

The story is horror in print!! The further into the book I got, the more shocking it was, but I was helpless to do anything but keep turning the pages.

“Oh my God, he actually hated me and here was me fantasising about him and wondering when I would see him again.”

As the story continues, the more is revealed about Nathan’s attraction and why he likes her one minute and cannot stand her the next. Also, Jasmine begins to together the pieces of the puzzle that is the Stevensons. All is not as it seems to her, and she is determined to find out what they are hiding.

“Do you know,” he growled in a low voice in my ear, “ how much I’ve wanted to do this Jasmine.”

An emotionally agonising read that was impossible to set down. The highs and lows were plentiful, the suspense just kept building to an immense peak, only to come crashing down, becoming more and more intriguing. My level of frustration was at the ultimate level, and at times I just wanted to say, WHY???

I did not realise when I began this book, how much and how quickly I would come to love it. I was totally enamoured by Nathan and Jasmine. A doggedly suspenseful read that I just inhaled with total abandon. I cannot wait to begin Ignition, Part 2 of the Escaping Demons Saga.

Luminosity is the story of Jasmine and Nathan. Jasmine is supposedly a mortal but eventually she comes to develop her own powers. It is discovered that she is very powerful. Nathan is the demon selected to kill her. However they fall in love. And thus begins the constant battle within Nathan and the constant battle to keep Jasmine safe until her powers are fully developed.
Luminosity had me feeling many things, anger, hatred, fear, anger, confusion did I say anger? And yet I was still drawn in, wanting desperately to see Jasmine come into her powers and kill everyone. That’s just how angry this story made me. Killing them with kindness just wasn’t working.
Jasmine is in foster care for much of her life and finally finds a family that wants to keep her. Until the Stevenson family steps in and brings her into the nightmare world of demons. In this family it is where Jas meets Nathan and discovers love, hate, fear, terror, anger. And look, those are the same feelings the author brought out in me!

Nathan is a demon, a demon selected to kill Jasmine for her Luminosity or soul. Luminosity is what makes demons more powerful. Something about Jasmine brings out the worst in the demons around her, causing them to beat and terrorize her.

Only time will tell if McWilliams has given us a hero in Jasmine. And just when you think Jas has turned into that hero this book and Nathan needs, McWilliams ends the story just. Like. That….what the everything heck!?! Well played McWilliams, well played!
Needless to say this is only book one of the series and I have to have book two to find out what finally happens!
Happy reading!

Jasmine Johnstone is an orphan who has been shuffled from foster home to foster home feeling unloved. When she finally finds a home she loves, she is torn from her new family even though they fight for her. This is a devastating event because she ends up with a very unlovable family.
Her new home comes with a lot of pain and turmoil while she tries to find her way in a school that also seems to be set against her. Her well being seems to be in jeopardy no matter what she does and where she goes.
Nathan Stevenson is the boy for her according to her, but according to everyone else, she must stay far away from him. They must fight their desires to be together and she must learn to keep her powers a secret considering if others find out about them her life will be in danger.
I think that this is a good story but the author could have gone more in depth into her powers and have less time spent on the main character being the punching bag of just about every one she comes in contact with. I wanted to root for the main character, but the more the story went on, the more I felt sorry for her. I am hoping that in the sequel, she becomes stronger and stands up for herself more. The story ends on a major cliffhanger, so if you do not like them, you may want to take that into consideration. I was left wanting more when the story ended.

This is book one in The Escaping Demons Saga. Jasmine is being forced to leave her foster parents even though things were going very well. What she wasn’t expecting was the vicious response from her new family. She seriously wanted to fit in. Everyone was giving her the cold shoulder and this was the loneliest she had ever felt. This journey will test all that she is but nothing will prepare her for the test of her love for Nathaniel.
She endures so much pain that I seriously though of not reading anymore. If I hadn’t read Candlelight I would've been saying bad things about Nate. I understood why he did most things but to not help her was just disgusting. I don’t my love would’ve lasted as long as hers did with all he put her through.
When I first started to read this story I thought they would put on a act to make sure she stayed happy and her luminosity would be even greater. I was thrown off when even Nate treated her bad when he was to keep her safe and happy. It was even more confusing when his father would beat him for things out of his control.
Even with the confusing parts I still enjoyed the story and the characters. I wished it was in both Nate`s and Jasmine’s POV so that I could know what was going on with Nate the whole time. I truly feel like she could've escaped multiple times. Was it love or naivety holding her back?

Luminosity (The Escaping Demons Saga) by Stacy McWilliams is a continuation of Candlelight leaving on Jasmine's arrival at the Stevenson's, but one thing I noticed about the books so far is that they are set in one point of view without ever changing. In Candlelight it was only set in Nathan's point of view and Luminosity is only set in Jasmine's, which causes a lot of confusion as to what is going on since you only know about as much information as the character which in Jasmine's case is next to nothing through out the whole story. Another issue I had is Jasmine's personality which was a little to damsel in distress, all of her thoughts and feelings were focused on her love/heart break due to Nathan, physically focused on her pain of being abused by everyone, and her confusion on what was going on around her. I like the story but not certain parts of it since most of the time I wasn't totally sure what was going on. The story was mildly interesting to me, but barely enough to keep me hooked.
I continuously found my self annoyed by most of the characters personalities, Jasmine's in particular irritated me it seems as though she needs a back bone which you actually start to see towards the end of the book so I have high hopes that Ignition (The Escaping Demons Saga) by Stacy McWilliams will be much better.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book.

GAH!

Ok now that's over with...
I can't tell you how excited I was for this book after reading the prequel, Candlelight. I couldn't wait to learn more from Jasmines perspective. It was more than I could have anticipated!

Ok so in Candlelight, we got to know Nathan, what his home life is like and such. I'm so glad I read that before this, cause if I didn't? I'd totally be hating him right now! Haha.

Poor Jasmine is just so unlucky right now, my heart broke for her reading this, and yes, I am aware it's fictional, but still!
There were so many points where I just wanted to try and protect her, or kick some demon ass!
Let me warn you, if you connect to the main characters like I did, you'll hate so many people in this book!

I'm not going to give spoilers, cause I'm not cruel like that, but if you love a good paranormal read, this book is definitely for you! Perfect amount of drama, suspense and emotion.
Stacy McWiliams is fast becoming one of my favourite new authors, which says a lot seeing as paranormal reads aren't my typical go-to.

If you read Candlelight and enjoyed it, you'll love this! One click people!
Definitely a 5* read!

Luminosity (Escaping Demons Saga) by Stacy McWilliams

5out of 5 stars
I got to say Ms. Ms. Williams has kept me intrigued with this series with the continuation of Nathan and Jasmine’s dark and brutal love story so if have ant triggers of child abuse or bully please read with caution.
Jasmine is forced to live with the Stevenson family. While staying with the Stevenson she found she had no choice but to battle mythical creatures with strengths she never knew she possessed began to surface, surprising those around her. Her only chance at survival is her demon boyfriend Nathan Stevenson. Jasmine has changed so much and I really can’t see what Ms. McWilliams has in-stored for us with Jasmine.
Can Jasmine trust Nathan as he has been fighting their love? Nathan gave me a headache with the back and forth.
With every turn they made they are hunted and time running out can their love be enough to defeat the demons?
This series can piss you off so bad but it will keep you so drawn in that you need to know what happens next. I’d very much recommend this book for those who like their paranormal stories a bit more on the dark side.

Omg I freaking loved this book. I devoured it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down. Luminosity is from Jasmine's perspective and I'm pleased I had read candlelight before hand so I knew what was going on with Nathan and why. I have a love/hate relationship going on with Nathan he gave me whiplash with his constant moods and the way him and his whole family constantly berated Jasmine with mental and physical abuse. I wanted to scream at Jasmine to fight back and I had quite a few 'Oh no you don't/didn't moments along the way. You feel Jasmines pain at the way she has been treated and the constant rejection off Nathan doesnt help her attraction to him although she does try her best to hide it.
There are quite a few suprises along the way and the storyline is really good and you get to see the subcharacters in action too. This book will leave you wanting more and I cant wait for the next one to see what else is in store for Nathan and Jasmine.
I received this book for an honest review.

I have to try to make sense of this review. Firstly I really liked the idea, the premise of this book and I enjoyed the story. Secondly I would recommend it BUT it frustrated me! I understand why Nathan had such severe mood swings but, really, so many? Jasmine had more blackouts than she should have. I feel that if these 'episodes' had been cut by half it would have been a much more enjoyable read.

Having said that the characters were good and the storyline flowed, if a little repetitive. I liked the demon/luminosity theme and would like to follow this further.

I honestly have no idea where to begin... How do I explain how much I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK?!?!
Seriously...
I love anything paranormal/fantasy, but Luminosity is like a breath of fresh air... Completely taking me by surprise! After reading the blurb I thought I'd enjoy it, but, after reading it, it has completely and utterly surpassed my every expectation!
I read luminosity in one sitting, I seriously could not put it down... Everything about it, from beginning to end drew me in!
A complete 5 stars from me!!! I'll definitely be recommending it to everyone and anyone!!!
One of my favourite books I've read to date!!!!!!

This is the story about Nathan who is a demon and Jasmine a human. They both feel a pull toward each other and don't know why. However Nathan has a duty to perform and if Jasmine finds out will all be lost? If you have not read the prequel I would highly suggest you read before this one. It is not mandatory however will make things happening in this book clearer. This book is really good. The characters are well developed and you will know who to root for. The world of demons is defiantly one you won't want to miss!! I recommend reading this book

Wow! I think I have whiplash from Nathan's erratic behaviour. Although as the story goes on it becomes clear as to why he is like that. Lisa the vindictive girlfriend is simply vicious as are most of the characters, but it's all part of who they are and who Jasmine is. The storyline is great and so are the characters. Fantastic writing on Stacy's part.

An interesting take on demons in the paranormal world. This book sets you upon a path where you want to know what happens next for these characters. Makes you want to pick up the next in the series to see where it goes!

Nicely written. Very detailed and nraws the reader on from the first couple of pages. Stacy gives a different twist on demons and the magical. I expect a lot more from Nathan and Jaz.
