Still not sure
This series has me very confused, here’s why:
1. It’s very well written. The writing and the narrative are engaging, which makes you want to keep going.
2. But nothing happens. It feels like the story is building up to something mayor but absolutely nothing happens, the potential for something is there but in the end the story is full of mundane occurrences and no action whatsoever. *SPOILER* this is the second book and we haven’t gone past Sissy staying in Kian’s apartment, it‘s been less than a week since the start of the tale and it wasn’t until 60%+ of THIS book that Sissy was told what the hell was happening *END OF SPOILER* all this presents a massive contrast to my next point.
3. The world building is really good. However, it’s also very unexplored due to the fact that NOTHING HAPPENS.
4. And it’s unnecessary long. Everything that’s happened in the first two books would usually take 1/3 of any other good 80,000+ words paranormal romance. Kian and Sissy’s story should be one long book, not three medium ones.
In short, I believe that the world building and the writing save this story from being utterly BORING, I’m not joking, I’ve read the first two and not even a week has gone by and there has been no progress of any kind.
For me it all hangs on the next one, if it’s more of the same I’m gonna be super disappointed, because the author would be doing these characters a disservice, but fingers crossed 🤞

Weeeeee
Book number two didn’t disappoint, with relatable characters, that I feel I’m really getting to know, with their different personalities, want and wishes. Although there’s one thing they all desperately wish for. Amanda’s research seems promising in possibility attaining for at least some of them , that which they all desperately desire. Hopefully the enemy doesn’t ruin everything. I’m on to book three.

December 23, 2017I hate having to throw in the towel on a series but I just have to. The story relies on Sycci...Or whatever her weird name is being a seer. Not once in book 2 even remotely indicated that. Book 1 did but in such an uneventful way I was wondering why her guessing shapes on a card was even relevant. Too many issues. Too bad.

In book two of the Children of the Gods series, Kian and Syssi embark on a relationship that is new to them both, and it is hot, addictive and powerful. Kian is still a disbeliever in the dormant gene that Syssi potentially carries, but that no longer matters to him. She has become the most important person in the world to him, and must be protected at all costs from the enemy clan. Syssi is under the spell of the dominant and thrilling Kian, but she has a distinct sense of unease about the high-rise stronghold managed by Kian and his "bodyguards." She can't quite put her finger on the type of operation Kian is managing, and fears it may be illegal and dangerous.
This second book of the trilogy is consumed by the budding sexual relationship between Kian and Syssi. In fact, the action-suspense plot regarding the danger Syssi is in moves forward slowly, sacrificed on the altar of sexy times. But I have to admit the sexy times were spicy and varied. Luckily, the second dormant, Michael, gets introduced to the immortals, and his interactions with the Guardians provides comedic relief while surreptitiously advancing the world-building.
Lucas continues to make this series a page-turner despite the near hour-by-hour pace. The characters are engaging and unique, with foibles and personalities that really come through. I find I like the near-immortals. Their hyper-sexuality and the methods employed to confuse or misguide their mortal partners could have taken a turn for the sordid, but Lucas manages to avoid this scenario by establishing strict canons followed by the immortals. Lucas's world-building is so complete she has taken into consideration medicine, law, technology and even childhood development for the immortals. I felt immersed in the world of the immortals and barely came up to breath the whole time I read this trilogy. All three books are already available and are Kindle Unlimited offerings.

I like the concept of these half-gods still living on earth. The first book was okay, but this was just filler to get to the next book. If the repeated chapters from the first book and the preview chapters for the third book were removed along with the repetitious sex scenes, this would barely be a short story.
I don't mind sex scenes at all, but I want them to be part of the story, not just because they can't keep their hands off each other and there's nothing else really going on. I'm hoping the third book actually has some story; if not, I'm done with this series. Just not for me.

In the first book, Syssi is pulled into Kian's secret world of Immortals, and the attraction between them is a start of a budding romance. Book two focuses on Syssi and Kian's relationship. Kian still doubts that Syssi is a carrier of the Godly gene but as his feelings for her grow stronger he begins to dread the day he'll have to wipe her memories of him and his clan. Syssi finds Kian's dominance thrilling and discoverers that she likes things a little spicy in the bedroom. But even though she is falling under his spell she starts to notice oddities about Kian and his large family and suspects they are involved in some kind of illegal business.
Meanwhile, Michael who is the second potential Dormant on Amanda's list, is rescued form the Doomers and brought to the high rise. The scenes about Michael's interactions with Kian and with the female Guardian Kri made me laugh out loud.
The character development continues in book two, and after a while the names in chapter headings become superfluous because each has such a unique voice that it is clear within a sentence or two who the speaker is. The world building continues at a slower pace than in book one, with more subtle layers and depth added to the story for a totally immersive experience.
Meanwhile, Michael who is the second potential Dormant on Amanda's list, is rescued form the Doomers and brought to the high rise. The scenes about Michael's interactions with Kian and with the female Guardian Kri made me laugh out loud.

Dark Stranger Revealed picks up where Dark Stranger The Dream left of, with Kian walking away from Syssi, and planing to keep his distance while she is hiding in the clan's secure high rise. But his resolve soon falters and he seduces her. Syssi is powerless to resist her attraction to Kian, even though she doesn't believe a man like Kian could want her for anything meaningful.
While both Kian and Syssi try to convince themselves that their relationship is nothing more than a casual, short term affair that would last only until it's safe for Syssi to go home, the torment each of them feels at the prospect of parting says otherwise.
The plot thickens when Dalhu, the leader of the enemy unit, learns from Amanda's stollen research papers about Syssi's and another test subject's strong paranormal abilities. Dalhu plans to snatch the two potential Dormants for himself and to discover the location of the clan's hideout.

This is the second book I have read by this author, and it certainly lived up my expectations. The strong world building and strong, well defined characters continue in this installment of this series and makes the reader strongly anticipate reading the next installment. I finished this book in one night as I just couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book and this series to any paranormal genre fan. I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. It was definitely time well spent.

This story was alright. It is however a little slow. I think the three books that cover Syssi and Kian could be covered in one book. Also, the back matter ruined the entire series. I have this compulsion to read everything and now I know a ton of the story so I feel less inclined to read the rest.

I'm starting to dislike these characters. The men seem to be barbaric cavemen, and with thousands of years of living you'd expect them to not be total buttholes... The h is a pushover whose demure act and crybaby mannerisms... I don't understand why the H is attracted to her beyond her appearance.

Not worth the read nor the hype.
WARNING……This is NOT A COMPLETE STORY!!!!
Each character story is a trilogy of 3 books but it’s really just 1 continuous story instead of 1 book that would be nearly 1000 PAGES😳😳
BUT OTHER REVIEWERS STATE THAT IT NEVER ENDS!!!
That even the 3rd book is cliffy and goes right into next 3 books, and so on through the entire series (20+ books). Sneaky way to keep you reading!!
Even midway through book 1, I found myself skimming. These books are way toooooo long and you can skim half of it and not miss a thing. It is so freaking drawn out and uninteresting with constant repetitive inner dialogue and day-to-day details (like getting coffee and breakfast😴) where NOTHING happens, there’s zero point to 85% of the books.
Also all books are written from multiple peoples POV, not the MC. Even when some stranger is about to die, they get their own POV chapter which ends with ☠️
Interesting way to write and makes you more invested in ALL THE CHARACTERS not just MC’s. I would keep reading if it was condensed. Each character could definitely complete their story/ HFN in ONE 300-400 page book instead of 1000 pages (3 books) each.
One last complaint… I’m totally here for the 🌶️spice 🌶️
and so far it’s been 🥱😴🥱 super boring and not memorable at all. Summary made me think we were getting some BDSM or something hot 🥵 but nah, not at all. Maybe🌶️🌶️ 1-2 🌶️🌶️peppers🌶️🌶️MAX? Sorry but I am out as soon as we conclude Syssi/ Kian’s story.
(FYI- after reading all 3 books, I can definitively say it is NEVER CONCLUDED and story just continues on & on, zero HFN/ HEA)

Enjoyable, but not gripping
The concept of vampires as descendants of gods is interesting, and I did enjoy it, but this book was a bit of a let down. It didn’t really seem to progress the story at all and didn’t explore any of the paranormal/ psychic aspects of the female mc at all, which was really disappointing to be honest. I felt like the book was too short and left too much unsaid.

I love the plot but hate the slow pace.
I wish authors would get it through their heads that too much introspection is annoying, especially when it's repetitive. We get it! Syssi is a prude and has to question her every move.
I like the plot but the pace is agonizingly slow. To me the only ones who are getting anything done are the bad guys. In fact, the bad guy seems to be way smarter than the good guys who know there is a huge threat yet keep living as nothing is wrong.
The back and forth with Kian and Syssi's relationship makes me want to scream. At this point, I'm just holding on to the plot and hoping the pace speeds up.

I am truly enjoying this series. This is book number 2, and I liked this one more than book 1. The characters are interesting, and I appreciate the naivety of the main character. What I don't like is how the author ends each book. The plot builds before it ends. It ensures you will read the next book, however. That is a good tactic though!! I am not reading the third book in the series.

2nd Book
I have read two of these books now and I’m not sure why. I don’t mean to be disrespectful but the storyline is a fantastic one. The characters however are lacking. There just not much there in their dialogue or thoughts to make me attach or really care what happens to them. Not reading another in the series. I’m sorry.

Absolutely brilliant
This series just gets better hooked from the start couldn't put them down superb well written and a great cast of characters and story line absolutely loved them

Kian and Syssi are the main characters . He an immortal, her a maybe dormant. This is a them getting to know each other better, misunderstandings and sex bouts.

Addicted!
Thank the gods! My case of blue balls has been relieved with the second book in this series. I hope I can keep the momentum, I'm famous for not finishing a series. And there's a ton of books this series. Crossing my fingers.
Book two starts right where book one left off. This one gives you ALL the steam you desperately needed from book one. Multiple POV's, third person, might I add. Usually I can't read third person unless written well. This author has ensnared me, because I'm not having any problems devouring these books. I'm intrigued! Good and evil. Right or wrong. I'm loving how the story is progressing. As I said, multiple POV's gives insight to each character's motives, desires, demons. And I can't keep myself from the turning the pages. I love how this series speaks to my soul, the plot goes back to the beginning of time, the need for power, suppression of women's divinity.
This series so far, has it all. I feel like we are leading up to a spectacular feud I do not want to miss. I definitely recommend carving out some time when diving into this. I certainly don't want to stop.

I didn't expect this to be amazing, it was just a free ebook I tried for fun. It was good and I will read the third book too but only because it's free. If I had to buy it, absolutely not.
The characters are strong and there's a little bit of development but not much. It's basically the two main characters in love with each other but in their heads, they are both like "Im not the right person for them because they're perfect and I'm messed up." 😳
Also I was expecting a lot of smut and there was only one (very long) sex scene. I hate when couples argue about the same thing over and over again because there was a lot of that too.
So the creatures in this series are basically vampires but they don't like to be called vampires. How come every time I try to pick out a random series without knowing anything about it, it ends up being about vampires? Seriously, it's happened like seven times! And who came up with the fact that vampires need to bite their partner during sex? That makes me kinda uncomfortable, I'm not into biting. Fun story, but….
The story is fun and it does keep me reading. However it feels poorly written, the emotional range of the characters are about as deep as a thimble. The dialogue between characters is about as cringe as a bad teen soap opera. I felt the same way about the first book, and I hoped that it would get better in the second… It only got worse… But because I’m curious and a glutton for punishment, I will read the third one before I decide if I want to keep going or give up on the series
Update: I read book three, not only did it not get better, it got way worse. The nicest thing I can say is that it’s just juvenile. Why do I have 3+ storylines going at once? Why do I need to know what’s going on from the guardians perspective, but only one time? What’s the point of that? Great, Syssi transitioned, do they have kids, what happens? Because I’m sure as heck not going to read 55 more books to find out.

It just keeps getting better!
Book two picks up right where book one left off. Kian continues to fight his feelings for Syssi, but eventually gives in, revealing himself and his true nature. In an amazing twist of emotionally driven rollercoaster rides, another Dormant is located. Will he accept the challenge to become immortal? How does Syssi except her role in becoming an immortal? Is it possible? What if it doesn't work and she's forced to leave Kian forever, her memories of their time together erased? Will Kian be able to let her go? You have to read to find out!

I will read all 3 as part of KU. However, this is the 2nd part a 3 part story. Book 1 ended with no resolution. Book 2 ended the same way. Be prepared to invest your time in three books of you want the complete story on Kian and Syssi. Overall, so far it was okay for me. It's hard to give a true review without the complete story. The chapters switch between different characters POVs. This is a Paranormal romance and the focus has been on the couple. There is some movement in the villain's storyline but it is not much. I found myself skimming the sections from the villains POV.
I will read all 3 as part of KU. However, this is the 2nd part a 3 part story. Book 1 ended with no resolution. Book 2 ended the same way. Be prepared to invest your time in three books of you want the complete story on Kian and Syssi. Overall, so far it was okay for me. It's hard to give a true review without the complete story. The chapters switch between different characters POVs. This is a Paranormal romance and the focus has been on the couple. There is some movement in the villain's storyline but it is not much. I found myself skimming the sections from the villains POV.

I couldn't even finish it. These people are supposed to be centuries old- they talk like teenagers. They suddenly fall in love? There seemed to be a lot of building up of characters in the first book- too many points of view. I'm not a fan of the dialog between characters. They are shallow and even the main character- characters? (Everyone has a point of view). I can't deal with the shallowly built, teenager-like dialog and thoughts. Done with this series. I tried. I really did. Even the romance is shallow. Couldn't even finish the book-.

Kian is not a smooth taker, he definitely puts is foot in his mouth when he talks to Syssi. Every time he thinks he is saying something right or truthful, he says it wrong. The process to Michael was already starting and Syssi still had not been told. Dahlu, the enemy, is getting smarter and closer, will he be successful in finding one of thee Clan. Bring in the next book.
