When Loyalty Is the Deadliest Weapon

Bushido was a fun, fast-paced installment in the Pursuit series and an excellent palate cleanser! For a story that takes approximately an hour to read, it delivers plenty of action, entertaining characters, and a satisfying conclusion.
From the moment the protagonist realizes something has gone terribly wrong with his assignment; the story keeps moving. I had my suspicions about the source of the betrayal, but figuring out who was responsible was only part of the fun. I also wanted to know how the protagonist was going to get himself out of the situation. And trust me, there was more going on behind the scenes than we initially knew.
I particularly enjoyed how the author handled the reveals. Information was withheld just long enough to let the pieces fall into place, and some of the protagonist's decisions made much more sense once the full picture emerged. The writing flowed well, the action kept coming, and I never felt like the story was dragging its feet.
I also appreciated how the title came full circle by the end. The themes of brotherhood and loyalty weren't just there for atmosphere. They played an actual role in how everything unfolded, reinforcing the idea that loyalty can't simply be demanded or manipulated to serve someone's ambitions.
Overall, this was a very entertaining read that accomplished exactly what I wanted it to. It was quick, engaging, well-written, and wrapped up nicely without feeling like it needed to be longer. If you're looking for a short action-packed thriller to break up longer reads, this one is worth checking out.
