You are cordially invited to the wedding of Richard Dwayne Morrow and Melanie Denise McGregor...
All heads turn as the opening refrain of Wagner’s “Bridal Chorus” echoes throughout the spacious venue. The bride is a vision in white as she makes her grand entrance. The wedding party stands witness at the far end of the aisle as murmurs ripple through the appreciative crowd. Only one thing is missing.
Where’s the groom?
After a long weekend of dueling bachelor/bachelorette parties, Dwayne and Melanie are counting the days ’til they finally say, “I do.” Melanie is scheduled to help the Boggses as they move the Lymont office of Boggs Investigations into Loretta’s house while Dwayne tends to a potential new client in Lancaster. Everything is going as planned until Dwayne drops off the face of the Earth.
Is it a matter of cold feet, or is it something far more nefarious?
When his SUV turns up abandoned, the police focus on the bloody shirt found inside. The blood is a match for Dwayne, and things are looking grim.
As the police close in on a surprising suspect, it’s up to Melanie to find out what really happened to her man.
Happily ever after has never felt so far away...
Interception is the ninth incredible entry in the Dwayne Morrow Mystery series...but will it be the last?
Darin Miller was born in Portsmouth but currently resides in Grove City, both of which are located in Ohio. While he has worked in Information Technology for three decades, he has not solved a single, solitary crime to date. He is the BookFest award-winning author of the Ohio-based Dwayne Morrow Mystery series, as well as an unrelated short story collection, Broken Bits and Bobs, and a standalone psychological horror thriller, Equilibrium. With equal parts action, humor, suspense and mystery, the Dwayne Morrow series features characters you’re sure to love—and in some cases, loathe.
A Gripping Story of Humanity with a Side of Mystery.
Interception by Darin Miller is the kind of book that sneaks up on you. Not because of the shocking twists, but because it deeply understands the fragile, unpredictable nature of everyday life. On the surface, it’s the story of Dwayne Morrow, a PI celebrating at his bachelor party, just two weeks before his wedding, while his pregnant fiancée, Melanie, heads to her own bachelorette party in another city. When Dwayne vanishes, Melanie and her sister Cheryl launch a desperate search to bring him home.
But what makes Interception unforgettable is that the heart of the novel lies in its exploration of human nature. Dwayne’s choices, and the consequences that follow, show how the most casual interactions and the moments we barely register in our day-to-day lives can ripple outward in ways we never expect. Miller shows how what seems harmless or mundane can become the hinge on which everything turns. Melanie’s determination, Cheryl’s loyalty, and Dwayne’s predictability weave together into a story that’s less about the mystery and more about connection, consequences, and the fragile threads that bind people together. It’s tense, emotional, and surprisingly intimate.
Interception reminds us that life doesn’t always unravel in grand, cinematic ways. Sometimes it’s one conversation, one decision, one seemingly innocent encounter that changes everything. And that’s what makes this book so compelling. It feels real. You won’t find your usual Dwayne Morrow mystery in this book (In fact, it should probably be the first Melanie Morrow Mystery!), but you will find a messy, ugly, loving, dedicated, and touching addition to the series where the mystery takes a backseat to the importance of human connection.
Wow. Just wow. I absolutely love the Dwayne Morrow Mysteries, but Interception might actually be my new favorite. It wasn’t just that the first-person present tense pulled me in right away, putting me right in the center of the action, it was also because we get to see Dwayne’s fiancée’s POV, also, and I ate it up, every single word.
Dwayne and Melanie are preparing and attending their separate bachelor and bachelorette parties and getting to see events unfold from different places and through different perspectives added an entirely new layer of tension that I wasn’t expecting. The nuggets of information that are revealed through each point-of-view keep the suspense high – and kept me flipping pages.
And by the end? My whole heart was reeling. Interception is funny, suspenseful, engaging, sad… all of that and so much more. And every emotion lands exactly as it should, page after page after page.
Don’t sleep on this series. If it’s been on your TBR, now is a great time to move it up the line.
Darin Miller absolutely nailed this one, and I’ll be thinking about it for a very long time.
This book is incredible! The reception that became the interception. This book is incredible!
Our lovable IT professional/PI wanna-be Dwayne is marrying Melanie! But before the “I-dos”, they each have their wild and separate bachelor and bachelorette parties to celebrate the upcoming nuptials. While there are tensions and family squabbles with both events, Dwayne’s is crazier than even Best Man Brady could dream up. And the end result? Dwayne and his brother Matt seem to be MIA.
With the combined efforts of Boggs detective agency (now with Dwayne and Matt’s sister Gina on board), celebrity hunk Brady, and local police, it’s up to Melanie and her sister Cheryl to search for clues as to the brothers’ whereabouts.
Are they sleeping off their post-party hangovers? Or is there something sinister afoot?
You’ll want to read Darin Miller’s Interception: Dwayne Morrow Mystery #9 to find out; but do yourself a huge favor and read books 1-8 first.
