Ok, normally I just star books and move on. All my stars are honest and how I feel about a book, so I'm happy to leave it at that. But sometimes a book, and an author comes along, and it deserves so much more.

Well guys, this is one of those times.

I loved this book, I was hooked from the beginning, and found myself begging for more. When I found out this was only book one and there were more, I totally flipped out (in a good way) a quickly brought them.

Afraid the next one wouldn't match up, I'm happy to say that I was wrong. I ended up on a reading spree for a while just so I could read all of this author's books.

I now consider myself a huge fan of Sage Marlowe.

I urge you to try the books at least once, because I think you'll find, they are seriously worth it.

Devo ammetterlo: per me è praticamente impossibile resistere quando mi trovo tra le mani un romanzo a tematica guardia/ladro (in qualsiasi declinazione o sfumatura!). In questo caso abbiamo come protagonista Julian, un agente dell'FBI che sta dando la caccia alla sua nemesi Romeo, ladro abile e gentiluomo. Ma quando i due si troveranno faccia a faccia ci sarà, per entrambi, un'attrazione immediata e irresistibile. Ho amato le dinamiche che si instaurano tra i due: l'attrazione, la fuga, la protettività, la paura, i sentimenti... e devo ammettere che non vedo l'ora di leggere i seguiti per capire il disegno occulto e più ampio che sta dietro a tutta la vicenda e per scoprire quali segreti nasconde ancora l'affascinante Romeo!

Don't judge a book (in this case a whole series) by its cover, right?

Loved Julian and his Romeo. :) A Thief on Christmas Eve is a well written and fast paced story. I instantly fell in love with Sage’s entertaining, witty and lively writing style. The mystery is clever done and kept me guessing from the beginning, the romance part is sweet and hot. Recommended!

This book is just irresistible!! Once you start reading you can't stop before you've read the last page.
With this series, Sage Marlowe created two sexy, hot and extremly lovable characters.
Julian and Romeo both have there edges and issues, but that lets you even fall in love more with them.

Julian is a very accurate FBI Agent, but the more Romeo gets his "influence" on him, he questions his own made rules. He just really can't resist Romeos sweet and sexy charme. Only one look and Julian seems to melt away..

Romeo is a man full of secrets, he just reveals on his terms. What bothers Julian even more, since he is falling more and more for this handsome thief and he wants to know more of his Lover.
Sometimes you just want to shake Romeo, so all or at least some of his secrets would fall out, but NO! Mr Marlowe is holding us on a short leash in that case. But it works perfectly for the Story and hopefully for the stories to come. There are planty of possibilities where this could lead...

While reading you just long for them to be together and that they could work it out somehow. Each one for himself is hot but together sparks fly everywhere and it is getting steamy and sexy as hell!!

This Story was a great read. I can't wait to read part two of the series and what these two gentlemen come up with next.

Di solito, mi risulta semplice capire se un libro mi è piaciuto o no, ma stavolta non è così.
Premetto che la storia mi era stata caldamente consigliata e avevo delle alte aspettative dopo la lettura della sinossi. (Ho un debole per Lupin, il ladro gentiluomo, e ancor più per Occhi di Gatto, che ha diversi punti di contatto con questa trama).
Queste aspettative iniziali, devo dire, sono state soddisfatte solo in parte.
L’autore ha reso bene l’UST tra i personaggi, quella tensione sessuale irrisolta che rimane presente per tutta la trama, alimentata da questi incontri mordi-e-fuggi (scene hot molto avvincenti, per carità, niente da biasimare, qui), ma che – a mio modesto parere – non giustifica quest’improvviso amore. Tutta la faccenda mi sembra campata in aria, quasi che l’autore avesse voluto convincermi a forza che l’attrazione ad un certo punto era diventata amore, senza però darmi realmente uno sviluppo del sentimento.
Alcune fughe di Romeo, francamente, mi sono sembrate davvero troppo semplicistiche, quasi ridicole, così come il continuo valzer di ‘ti prendo, ma non vorrei’, quando in realtà l’etica professionale di Julian era già naufragata in nome di una botta-e-via.
Mi incuriosisce la vita di Romeo. Questo finale aperto è un invito a nozze per una curiosona come me. Quanto c’è dietro? Perché l’FBI fa una scelta così? Questo sì che mi intriga, motivo per cui leggerò il seguito quando arriverà (anche se, accidenti, sono 5 volumi!) e speriamo che migliori.

La storia mi è piaciuta perché è brillante e scorrevole. I personaggi sono ben caratterizzati, mi ha impressionato e ho apprezzato soprattutto Romeo. Buona traduzione. Unica pecca l'editing che andrebbe sicuramente rivisto. Ripetere la stessa identica parola (ignorando i sinonimi) in una frase, anche di breve lunghezza, spezza la lettura.

Par certain aspect ce premier tome va vous rappeler une certaine série américaine White Collar avec un non moins célèbre et sexy acteur qui a fait son coming-out en début d’année : Matt Bomer. Mais si effectivement les deux héros sont assez similaires par leurs métiers, un agent du FBI et un cambrioleur, que leur rencontre est le résultat d’une longue enquête et que quelques aspects de leurs personnalités sont similaires, la comparaison s’arrête là. Sage Marlowe a créé un couple de héros unique qui vous entraine dans une très sympathique histoire même si certains côtés du métier d’agent spécial manque de crédibilité. Mais nous sommes dans une fiction donc l’auteure peut se permettre quelques entorses à la réalité pour nous offrir un premier tome dynamique, sexy et non dépourvu d’humour.

Dès le premier chapitre, nous découvrons nos deux héros dans leur premier vrai face à face car si l’agent Harris poursuit notre voleur depuis près de trois ans, jusqu’à cette nuit c’est la première fois qu’il le découvre physiquement. Et c’est un choc, car il ne s’attendait pas à ressentir quoique se soit pour ce voleur hors pair en dehors d’une profonde satisfaction à la réussite d’une longue course poursuite. Mais voilà le cambrioleur n’a pas été surnommé Roméo pour rien, il est jeune, sexy et possède des atouts auxquels notre très sérieux et posé agent spécial va avoir du mal à résister. D’ailleurs il ne va pas y réussir (pour notre plus grand plaisir) et se retrouver après une nuit torride, seul et de nouveau au point zéro de son enquête.

Plusieurs mois après nos deux hommes se retrouvent face à face, toujours d’un coté opposé de la loi mais avec une attraction physique bien présente. Le problème c’est que Julian malgré tout reste un flic et que même si quelques indices lui suggèrent que Romeo n’est pas ce qu’il parait vraiment il reste un voleur. Il faut reconnaitre à Sage Marlowe qu’elle mène bien son affaire car non seulement elle insère une explication crédible qui permettra à nos deux personnages de se retrouver à la vue de tous sans que personne ne soupçonne leur relation passée ni ne pose de questions sur Romeo, mais également offre une solution (un peu facile certes) sur la manière dont les deux amants vont pourvoir poursuivre leur relation.

C’est un récit léger, vif, avec un peu de mystère et une romance mais surtout une mise en place de la série. Ce premier tome est construit malgré son court format en trois parties : la première c’est la rencontre de Julian et Romeo qui scelle leur future relation, la seconde nous avons le développement de l’enquête et la découverte des raisons qui poussent Roméo à voler et enfin la dernière qui donne des réponses sans vraiment le faire.

C’est assez rapide mais c’est une mise en bouche très intelligente car Sage Marlowe tout en nous donnant quelques informations ne nous dévoile pas grand-chose au final sur le passé des deux hommes. Elle pose des jalons, nous offre des scènes sexy, une intrigue bien ficelée, elle lance quelques pistes mais c’est tout et le résultat est là ; vous avez envie de savoir comment cette relation va pouvoir évoluer ?et deux personnages aussi différents vont-ils réussir à s’accorder ? et surtout quel est le vrai nom de Roméo ? Réponse peut-être dans le second tome « A talent in your lies »

Amanti dei romance con un pizzico di mistero, abbiamo trovato il libro che scalderà le vostre serate invernali! “Un Ladro alla Vigilia di Natale” di Sage Marlowe è una lettura che mi ha conquistata per la sua capacità di mescolare passione, intrighi e colpi di scena in un racconto che, seppur breve, lascia il segno.

La storia prende il via in una notte di tempesta di neve, quando l’agente speciale dell’FBI Julian Harris riesce finalmente a catturare Romeo, il ladro d’arte che insegue da ben tre anni. Costretti a rifugiarsi in una casa isolata a causa delle condizioni meteorologiche, tra i due nasce un’attrazione immediata e irresistibile che culmina in una notte di passione. Ma al risveglio, Julian si ritrova solo, con il cuore a pezzi e l’orgoglio ferito.

Un anno dopo, quando ormai Julian aveva perso le speranze, il destino decide di riunirli, riaccendendo quella fiamma mai davvero sopita. Qui la storia si complica: Romeo si trova costretto a compiere un furto particolarmente rischioso che mette in pericolo la vita di Julian, trovandosi così diviso tra la propria sopravvivenza e la sicurezza dell’uomo di cui si è innamorato. Nel frattempo, Julian è tormentato dai dubbi sulla vera natura di Romeo e sulla sua lealtà.

Ciò che rende questa lettura davvero godibile è l’alchimia tra i protagonisti: Romeo, con il suo fascino da biondo misterioso, è il classico personaggio che non riusciamo a fare a meno di amare nonostante la sua natura di fuorilegge. Julian, dall’altro lato, incarna perfettamente il conflitto tra la professionalità dell’agente e le emozioni dell’uomo, in un percorso di sviluppo che lo porta a mettere in discussione le sue convinzioni più radicate.

Lo stile di scrittura di Sage Marlowe è scorrevole, esuberante e fortemente ironico, rendendo la lettura non solo coinvolgente ma anche piacevolmente leggera nonostante la tensione narrativa. L’autrice crea un’atmosfera che alterna sapientemente momenti di suspense a momenti di intensa passione, il tutto ambientato in un mondo dove le dinamiche tra forze dell’ordine e criminali vengono esplorate attraverso la lente di una relazione amorosa.

Il romanzo tocca diversi temi profondi come il conflitto tra dovere e desiderio, l’attrazione tra opposti, la lealtà e la fiducia, nonché le questioni di identità e segreti. Il classico clichè “guardia e ladro” viene reinventato con una svolta romantica che offre nuove prospettive su questa dinamica tradizionale.

Il libro è il primo di una serie e, devo ammetterlo, ti lascia con la voglia di scoprire di più. L’autrice è stata abile nel creare un finale che, pur dando una certa soddisfazione, lascia sufficienti questioni in sospeso da farci desiderare subito il seguito.

Romeo e Julian inaugurano una serie in cinque uscite che è stata aperta, dal mio modesto punto di vista, in maniera egregia.

Poche pagine per un racconto ben scritto e ben organizzato. Mi ha preso subito perché c’è un po’ di tutto: azione, amore e inganno. Ho previsto il finale, cosa non difficile se si è stati ammiratori del telefilm ‘White Collar’ e di quel bel fustaccione di Matt Bomer.

A me piacciono gli uomini che parlano poco ed entrambi i protagonisti tutto sono fuorché dei grandi oratori. Romeo, o qualunque sia il suo nome, è una bellezza bionda, bello come il sole e decisamente attraente nei modi e nelle parole. Ne dice poche ma quelle poche bastano ad infervorare gli animi.

Dall’altro lato c’è Julian, che purtroppo è continuamente messo nel sacco da Romeo. E’ un agente FBI che riceve tante batoste a causa delle sue indagini su Romeo ma una gradita sorpresa è dietro l’angolo, tutta per lui. Una sorpresa che, se anche non originale nel mondo inventato della scrittura/sceneggiatura, è decisamente una bella trovata.

Non ci sono vere e proprie dichiarazioni d’amore se non sul finale. Ma come si dice ‘ i gesti contano più delle parole’ e quindi, man mano che si avventura nella storia, il lettore si rende conto di come le azioni dei protagonisti siano dettate da un vero sentimento che li spinge a mettere la propria vita in pericolo purché l’altro possa trovarsi preparato a quello che accadrà. I like it, Sage!

Le scene di sesso sono descritte bene e non sono volgari. I sentimenti sono anch’essi parte integrante del racconto. Di facile lettura ‘Un ladro alla vigilia di Natale’ si inserisce bene nel panorama della Gay Fiction. Anche grazie alla copertina che attira l’occhio del lettore.

My default for every book is 2 stars for okay unless they manage to climb out of the ditch of mediocrity. Unfortunately, this one is a toss-up between being in said ditch and an even deeper hole.

The writing is functional, but there were so many unbelievable things that my disbelief was having cardiac arrest while I read this.

Various WTFs:

1. A trained FBI agent just drops his training, ethics, and pants in the presence of a criminal just to kill time.

2. He does not see anything that might possibly go wrong in this situation

3. Romeo offers him a blowjob and Julian accepts. This should be the point where any self-respecting criminal will bite J's dick off, leave him to bleed to death, and escape. This did not happen.

4. Upon Romeo's 'death', all his bosses looked at him with pity and offered him condolences like his bff just died. Instead of dialing Internal Affairs ASAP.

5. Romeo is added into the team. Not to trade his goodies for light sentencing, but everyone is just going to pretend Romeo died and now Paris Moore is an officer without training, credentials, or test results. I'm surprised this book wasn't strangled to death by all the red tape that was cut in the process.


It's not a bad book, per se. It's just very, very unconvincing without even the excuse of supernatural thingamajigs. For some reason I think a dash of BDSM might actually have helped this novel (a strange thought, surely) with R and J alternately being in each other's mercy, it would make great sense to have them beat the crap out of each other - both sexually and emotionally.

Overall, it's really just an excuse for a kink device. It'll serve the thief-and-officer fans well, but I can't think of anyone else who might enjoy this.

Una notte insieme, bloccati dalla neve in una casa isolata, una Vigilia di Natale sorprendente e unica è sufficiente per cambiare per sempre le vite di Julian, agente dell’FBI, e Romeo, abilissimo ladro di opere d’arte. L’affascinante fuorilegge conquista il cuore di Julian, donandogli a sua volta il proprio: vivere in due mondi opposti non riuscirà a tenerli lontani e saranno disposti a rischiare qualsiasi cosa per proteggersi l’un l’altro, in un susseguirsi di furti, incontri più o meno fortuiti e separazioni malinconiche.
Pur ricordando fin troppo il protagonista di un famoso serial televisivo, persino nell’aspetto fisico, Romeo risulta un personaggio completo e ben costruito: seducente e misterioso al punto giusto, lascia intuire una verità complessa dietro alle sue azioni criminali, qualcosa che lo spinge a rubare che va oltre la mera ostentazione della sua straordinaria abilità.
Dal canto suo, Julian si trova quasi intrappolato nel ruolo di agente delle forze dell’ordine, combattuto tra lavoro e desideri del cuore sceglie comunque di seguire la propria coscienza e il rigoroso senso della giustizia che lo guida, pur non rinunciando mai alla volontà di proteggere Romeo.
Il finale apre scenari interessanti per il seguito, con questioni irrisolte e misteri da svelare, ma soprattutto con due protagonisti passionali e seducenti che devono dimostrare di poter conciliare dovere e amore. (recensione pubblicata anche su Romanticamente Fantasy Sito)

Really, Alex Rider's got nothing on Eugenides.

This one, while we don't get to know as much about Romeo's techniques or fancy gizmos as we do in The Morning Star (and series), is heavier on the romance than Shadow of the Templar. And we get more explicative sex lol.

And unlike that one by Josh Lanyon, I actually rather like the FBI dude in this one. That one...I didn't really like his name, first off, and secondly, he seemed really... thuggish. Rough trade.


I'll admit I don't like the name Paris Moore, either, but it does play to the whole R&J theme.

Welp. Off I go to the next one, although now that Romeo's no longer a cat burglar, I feel like my regards towards this series may end up declining...

It was o.k. The plot was unrealistic and confusing. It wasn't executed very well at all. And Julian was the most inept FBI agent ever. The romance part was sweet, but also insta-love after only one night of sex. Hopefully the next book has some of the answers to HUGE plot holes that were left such as 1. How did Romeo fake his death and go from the FBI's most wanted art thief to a consultant? 2. Who is behind setting Romeo up and why? 3. Why doesn't someone clean up the broken shards of the glass and mug that Julian dropped when Romeo startled him on two separate occasions? Instead they just go on and walk through the room, barefoot even, like it didn't happen. Drove me crazy. I kept wanting to warn them to watch their feet, there is glass on the floor! 4. What is Agent Ramirez's deal? 5. How did Chief Baxter know Julian & Romeo were screwing and why didn't she fire his ass for it?

This was my first story that I have read by Sage Marlowe... and I liked it. I didn't love it... but I liked it! I was glad to see that this is a series of several books because at the end of the story I was left feeling like Romeo and Julian were still pretty much strangers to me. I am hoping to find some depth to these very interesting characters that seemed to be missing in this the first book of the series! Perhaps it was the fact that the two characters only meet four times, two of which were for brief moments, and the other two times were just for slightly longer periods of time... until the end of the story. This was an unusual way in which to present the MCs relationship, and I am not certain how I feel about it... but I did like the story and am going to assume that as the series progresses I will get answers to the many questions that I was left with at the end of this story!

It was an interesting premise and had me guessing as to how it would work out. I was worried there wouldn't be a happy ending but I kept hope up because it was a Christmas story. Near the end, though, it really felt like it was going to be a tragedy like the Shakespeare version. I was so glad it wasn't but it really is just an HFN. I am thrilled it's a whole series and can't wait to read the next one.

One nitpick: It was hard to believe Julian would sleep with Romeo the first time and the whole time I felt like it could be a ploy and Julian should have at least suspected it was one while it was happening. Romeo was a player, that was very clear.

One extra kudo: A female chief and acknowledgement of how hard that was to get obtain!

This book was extremely adorable, and has a great plot, but it was too short. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more, and rated it higher, if it was longer. Because it was so short, the end seemed a little rushed and confusing. Also, I would have loved to see more happen between them before they fell in love. It would have been much more believable and exciting if Julian had been close to catching Romeo within those three years and we could have seen some more interactions between them before they slept together. Overall, pretty good though, and I can't wait to read the next one.

God,the cover is ugly....shudder...
This was cute,but couldn't help but compare it with , my favorite series EVER. Too many similarities not to, and in comparison found it lacking. But for a quick and light read,it was enjoyable enough so 4 stars from me.

Why does this book have such a high rating? Josh lanyon's Icecapade, with a similiar though much more well written story, is rated lower. And Julian has to be the dumbest, most incompetent FBI agent ever. How does he keep his job? The story actually made me think of the series "White Collar", if the two main characters in that were gay. Except that the FBI agent in that is intelligent and capable of logical thinking.

This book was great fun to read. It's witty, fast paced and sexy. This is the first book in the series, so be prepared to get drawn in to the story of Romeo & Julian. The author does a fantastic job of presenting a clever plot that keeps you guessing and delivering some smoking hot love scenes. I love reading books that are part of a series, and this one is a great beginning - I can't wait to read the next one.

Although the storyline was a bit far-fetched, A Thief on Chritmas Eve was loads of fun and highly entertaining. The romance was sweet buy not cloying. I'm definitely reading the rest in this series!

Absolutely, totally far-fetched scenario! But I still enjoyed it (even though I 'knew' the ending before it happened.)
