I can’t stop falling for my daredevil stepbrother.
Lincoln “Based” Carter is an arrogant a**hole and the most famous extreme sports athlete in the world. His idea of fun involves jumping off of skyscrapers and parachuting between buildings.
Until the day he crash lands through a car windshield and shatters both of his legs.
When I come home from college that summer, I’m surprised by the grunts of my hot-as-hell stepbrother working up a sweat during Physical Therapy. All in front of the camera crew that’s filming a documentary about his recovery.
Part of me wants to run, but I can’t stop staring at his tattoos and his ripped body.
We have a history, but we can’t be together. We can’t even be near each other without a camera around. And yet I spend all day fantasizing about his slightly damp white T-shirt clinging to his muscular frame. His constant cocky teasing is driving me crazy.
We may live the same house, but I’m afraid that if I let him get any closer then we’ll both drop right over the edge.
Based contains mature content (explicit sexual situations and mature language), and is recommended for audiences 18+.
Based is a standalone, full-length novel. No cliffhanger.
Based: A Stepbrother Romance has a combination of love, lust, passion, hot sex, doubts, angst, temptation, betrayal and deeply heartfelt romance. I read this book in one sitting and I loved it!
The story is about the forbidden romance between Aubrie and her stepbrother Lincoln. Lincoln is sexy, arrogant and cocky, and the most famous extreme athlete in the world. He is brave, talented and adventurous. He knows the risks every time he jumps off a cliff or a high-altitude structure, but loves the feeling he gets by cheating death. His BASE jumps are often illegal and daring but he’s totally dedicated to this action sport.
When he’s severely injured in a BASE-jumping accident, he starts physical therapy back home with the cameras on, turning himself into a reality star. Things are getting more difficult when his sexy as hell stepsister, Aubrie, returns home from college for the summer. They have history but, obviously, she’s off limits. He still wants her bad but he knows it’s completely and utterly wrong. Against all sense of morals. But she’s so damn perfect. Aubrie can’t help but think of him all the time, too. There are many obstacles they have to overcome but they know there is something inside of them that is greater than any obstacle. They soon weave a tangled web of passion and surrender to their carnal desires. The forbidden love scenes are frenzied and freaking hot!
This is a passionate, intense and angsty forbidden romance. Ms. Hamel completely blew me away and provided us with a perfect ending.

Based: Interesting, filled with plot-holes, a sweet romance, scorching hot sex scenes -WOW-, a nice hero, an unlikeable and a bit mundane heroine, and still no drama, at all!
I consider myself kind of an expert on the stepbrother-romance genre, only because i 've read dozens of stories revolving around that matter. Some were good, some were bad, some were short others were lengthy. I guess Based is in between of them all.
Lincoln was a good male lead, he really was, he harbored feelings for his stepsister for years, he was cocky and mouthy, a flamboyant person but as the story progresses the reader could see that in reality he was very level-headed, determined and romantic, almost.
On the contrary, the female lead, Brie is an immature girl, that doesn't do a good job convincing us that she is a geeky braniac. The language she uses is the opposite of what you 'd expect and being inside her mind wasn't my favorite pass-time.
All in all it could have been so much more plotwise, but the sex was very good for the biggest part. Only some corny lines were a bit too much, but they didn't take anything from the hotness and passion of those scenes. As for the rest, i loved their interaction while playing piano or arcade games, but the characters needed some more exploration beyond their personality aptitude in relation to each other.
THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- The writing is mediocre, it needs more finesse and some clarity. - The story wasn't very tight. - I don't understand all the contradictions. - His mother was likeable. - It reminds me of Sabrinna Paige's series. - The end is satisfying. - I learnt a lot about B.A.S.E. Jumping, that was interesting. I even researched it later.

Based was a enjoyable stepbrother romance, that will satisfy anyone who loves this genre.
Lincoln and Arbrie felt an attraction right from the start at their parents wedding. Both walked away from acting on those feelings and for the last 3 years have avoided each other and lived their life's. Arbrie is doing well at college and Lincoln is enjoying fame and success in an extreme sport that has him jumping off buildings. After a recent jump leaves Lincoln injured and in trouble with the law, he's at home rehabilitating and having his every move filmed for a documentary on him. Arbrie is also back home after Lincoln's mom asks for her help with her charity work, so with both these people living under the same roof sparks are soon flying.
I don't think Based offers anything really new and different in the Stepbrother genre but it was really well done and I was entertained through out.
Both Lincoln and Arbrie were very likeable characters with the chemistry and connection between them believable and fun to read. For me personally I found Lincoln the best to read. He really does want his Brie and he doesn't playing any games or act like a bastard to get her, which for me makes him a winning hero to crush on.
There's a few twists and turns on the way to a happy ending for these two lovers, but nothing too angsty that will cause damage to your Kindle.
I'd most definitely recommend this book, its an easy going read and just what I needed for a bit of me time in the school holidays with my family.
An ARC of Based was gifted by B.B.Hamel in return for an honest review.
after "The Mime Order" I needed something simple to calm down again so I looked for a nice contemporary, new-adult story and choose Based because it seemed to be an interesting story, and it was a kindle-unlimited book ...
all in all it was a nice read but not spectacular, which is kind of sad as it could have been really good. Lincoln was a great hero with an interesting character and some kind of career, he really loved. Brie on the other side was a bit of a spoiled princess, without a lot of character development or a real idea about her future, which was strange for such a perfect person like her

Wow. I haven’t read anything this bad in a while. Ugh. The plot was there! However, the delivery was absolute garbage. Literally every chapter was repetitive nonsense. Don’t waste your time.
I was very kindly given a copy of Based to read and review by the author.
Aubrie 'Brie' Evans and Lincoln 'Based' Carter, step siblings, would be lovers, chalk and cheese. These two had such great chemistry and camaraderie, their back and forth exchanges were always a thrill to read. They were such polar opposites but so absolutely perfect for each other, the way they could wind one another up always had me stuck somewhere between over heating and chuckling until my sides were sore. I love characters written with such sharp tongued wit!
This book was absolutely .... wow! I always feel that when you go in to a stepbrother romance book you're always kind of getting the same thing each time. Sure each author has their own take on the storyline but they always feel a little 'carbon copy' of each another. And considering that B.B. Hamel's previous book was a step brother tale, I actually started a little apprehensively. But somewhere within the first couple of chapters I found my rather unfair presumptions whipped straight in to shape. The reasons why this worked so well and felt so fresh and original for me only took me a few minutes to figure out.
“I would have guessed you’d use the pool table before Batman pinball.” “Looks can be deceiving. Pinball is the true game of skill.” She laughed. “I find that hard to believe. Are you any good?” “I’m a pinball master, set all the high scores. I’m great with my hands.” She raised an eyebrow. “Seriously?” “Seriously. The ladies always compliment me on my finger skills.” She gave me a look. “I mean the high scores.” I grinned. “Yeah. Except this bastard.” I nudged the case with my hip. She laughed again. “Look at you. Good at piano and pinball. Weird combination.” “I’m a man of many talents.”
Although written in both characters perspectives, the narrative always felt a little more like this was Lincoln's story to tell. But not just that, B.B Hamel has written a male character that is so much more than muscles, tattoos and sex appeal, this guy has not only a heart but a real story of disaster and of a painful recovery to tell. And one that has been written with great thought and dedication by the author, sometimes you can literally tense up, wince and feel the pain that Lincoln is experiencing.
There were so many layers to our story. Too much baggage to count. Most of it was mine, and I couldn’t deny that. Sometimes, I was afraid I would get pulled down by the weight of it all, and it scared me to think that maybe she could get pulled down with me. My whole life had been about plummeting toward the earth, but for the first time in my life, I wanted to stay grounded.
Brie was just as likeable as Lincoln was. She was always down to earth, supportive and thoroughly human. Sometimes we love and forgive people even when they possibly don't deserve it. Just like we except them for the people they are. You can't decide who you fall in love with as much as you can't choose your family. Brie was always just thoroughly loveable and relatable, a heroine who never actually needed saving made a refreshing change from the normal damsels in distress you so often see.
But I wasn’t denying it anymore. I wasn’t hiding it. I was his and I couldn’t help it. Nothing we said or did would change that fact. I was embracing it. I was relaxing and going with the flow. It was love. That’s what he called it. I either went with it or I drowned. I’d always go with Lincoln.
Between the stupidly goofy smile I realised I was sporting by the end of the book and one particular date scene with 'Misty the stripper' that had me laughing so hard I couldn't even read the pages through my teary eyes, I fell so deeply in love with this book. Such a charming yet heart felt read, I never found anything about it that I would change. B.B. Hamel has written it in her usually flawless manner, with enough sexy scenes to keep pulses racing but with an emotional plot reminiscent of her debut novel. Still one of three of my go to authors for a fun evening read, this book was a total winner and impossible to put down. Highly recommended to everyone!
~~~I received an ARC of Based from B.B. Hamel for an honest review!~~~
This is the second book of B.B. Hamel's that I have received as an ARC and reviewed, I do not know B.B. Hamel personally, she contacted me through Goodreads.
Based is a stepbrother story about Aubrie who is a studious girl with her head on her shoulders. She has been attending college at Notre Dame and has not been home in 3 years. She moved out there shortly after her father's wedding. Events from the wedding have tortured her, and are partly the reason for her staying away. She is back because her stepmother wanted her help on some charity events over the summer.
Lincoln 'Based' Carter, is an extreme jumper who tends to get into trouble with what he jumps off of. He is a tattooed, well-toned, daredevil, playboy.....oh and he is Aubrie's stepbrother...the reason she stays away. Only he has also been staying away for the past 3 years. He was home now, under the supervision of his stepdad after he BASE-jumped off a building illegally, but the wind was stronger and he lost control crashing into the windshield of a car crushing both his legs. He was home to recoup, rehab, and film a documentary about his accident, the recovery and his personal life.
With their "history" and being in the same house together over the summer, tempers flair, temperature rises, and the seduction begins. This story is different in the fact that though Aubrie and Lincoln acknowledge the taboo of their relationship of sorts, they are not entirely focused on it, repeating everyone right sentence containing how wrong it was and that the shouldn't and that they are steps!!! This is so very much appreciated, because the constant talk of it is absolutely annoying!!! We get it, so move on!!! This story also provided a little mystery as to the deal behind the circumstances and consequences of the problems of Aubrie's dad and Lincoln. I loved that Aubrie was a tough girl and able to make her own decisions.
This is a romance story for anyone who enjoys stepbrother romances. I would recommend this to anyone, though must be above 18y/o for Mature themes!!!
This is the 2nd book of this author I have been given the privilage to read... This didnt disappoint.. Lincoln “Based” Carter is an arrogant asshole and the most famous extreme sports athlete in the world pretty much your typical addrenilan junkie bad boy.. loves doing crazy stunts till one day it lands him thru the windshield of a car and both legs shattered.. Aubrie 'Brie' Evans (Or Brie Baby as Lincoln likes to call her hehe) is a very smart very beautiful girl who is attening Notre Dame College.. As soon as the wedding of her Father and Jules took place she and Lincoln had a little kiss of sorts.. it freaked her out.. she took off for school.. has not been home in 3 yrs.. She has been asked to come home by her stepmother to help with some charity events.. Not knowing about what happened to Lincoln she agrees..(thinking she wont see him).. But when she get home shr finds out what happened to him and what her father has planned for him..
I loved the chemestry between these two.. You could tell they both wanted the same thing just scared to go after it..
Thank you soooo much for allowing me the oppertunity to read this amazing read...
Based Licoln Carter base jumper, law breaker , athlete and celebrity in the world of sports. After breaking the law to jump off a building falling fast to the ground does he feel free and alive. Then in a snap it happens no time to change course of action he's crashes smashing both his legs. His recovery and conditions to stay out of jail are to live with his Step dad Cliff and mother Jules till his probation is up. One of the conditions his step dad made with Lincoln was a reality movie of his recovery and physical therapy. As long as he stuck to filming he was stay out of jail. Everything turns upside down when Brie shows up his so called step sister. They never grew up together they only met when there parents decided to marry. They shared one kiss the day there parents married and both have thought about it over the years. Now together again after all those years there being pulled together as much as they try to avoid one another. The sexual tension between these two was driving me nuts. Finally when they did break down it was HOT. I gave 4 stars only for the fact it seemed rushed. I wanted more details. All in all Quick read cute story
Lincoln "Based" Carter, arrogant, charming, sexy. What more is there to say. He was all over the place in this story. A Base jumper that was in a horrific accident, breaking both legs, is rehabbing and filming a documentary on his recovery in his step-dad's home. Brie, the straight laced, A+ college student comes home for the summer to help out her step-mom. Not knowing the Lincoln will be there with a film crew.
This story flowed nicely. The crazy chemistry between the two was off the wall. You get a bit of everything in this book. You have blackmail, crazy people, the sex scenes are hot when they finally get together.
The scene when Brie hears Lincoln playing the piano for the first time and him singing, OMG, that was amazing and sweet.
Brie doesn't want to be part of the documentary but films a few interviews for him. The banter between the two is hilarious at times. How Lincoln comes off so cocky and arrogant but is a softy at heart.
This story does have a HEA and well worth the read. I would suggest checking out more from B.B. Hamel
Lincoln and Aubrie have avoided each other for years to let their attraction burn out. They almost went there at the wedding of their parents. Aubrie is asked to come home to help her step-mother with her charity project and Lincoln is there recovering from a major accident. They are forced to be in proximity and it doesn't take long for them to realize the attraction is still very much alive. Lincoln loves the rush of jumping and doesn't want to believe his career is over. Aubrie is a college student and tends to play it safe. Pursuing the attraction, is anything but safe.
There is lots of story here which I appreciate along with the chemistry. I don't enjoy those stories where it is all about having taboo sex with your step-brother and there is nothing about an actual relationship. These too really get to know each other and explore that connection too. There are some real jerks trying to ruin it and you root for them to get what they deserve.
Kindly provided with an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review....
5 base jump me !!! Stars !!!
I know there are ALOT of "stepbrother" stories out there at the moment and for me I felt I have been drowning in them and blurring together some story lines, that is until this beauty !!
This is Lincoln and Aubries story and they are "step" siblings. They say opposites attract and boy do they in this book !!!. I really enjoyed the duel POV.....I am a sucker for getting into the head space of our main characters - Hero's and heroine's I need to know what you are thinking !.
Full of humor, tasteful but VERY steamy romance !!!. A great and timely paced story line. Yup, just one great big "it worked for me" book !!!
I would really recommend this book if like me you enjoy "stepbrother" books and are looking for something to restore your faith in the whole concept !!.
So, this was nice, that is exactly how I feel after reading it. It was nice but a bit dull. Honestly, I was hoping for a lot more but it just didn't have that pizazz. The story resolved too easily and wasn't very imaginative to me. I don't feel like we really get to know the characters because A, I have no idea what Audrie is going to school for, B, how Cliff really felt about Jules, and C, Jess's actual motives for doing what she does, is she after money or getting ahead in her career. Too many blank spaces not filled in. But I did like it because I really liked Lincoln and the fact that we heard more from him than Aubrie.
This book read a little slower for me than Raging Hard did. The beginning was a little slow for me and it took me a while to believe the romance between the two.
The drama was a tad cheesy and the ending a little too quick for me but the middle made up for it :)
All in all, I enjoyed the book! I will continue reading B.B. Hamel!
While the steamy scenes were rather interesting, the rest of the book kind of fell short of what I wanted from it. Not that I could tell you what I wanted from it, but I had thought Aubrie to have some more substance beyond the desire for her step-brother and I even wanted some more out of Lincoln himself. They felt a bit flat.
I loved it. I like how dirty mind have Lincoln. It was a simple story, a little slow in the beginning, but when you get this couple in action it's amazing. The love moment are very dirty an sexy, and the e mail was very funny. It was a good story. Good job B. B. Hamel
This story is of Lincoln who is a base jumper that got really hurt while recovering he's home when his step sister is and this is their story. Very inspiring story.
Primeiro livro da B.B. Hamel que leio. Adorei Based. Apesar do tema meio-irmãos ser um tanto batido, achei que a autora conseguiu dar um ponto de vista renovado. Lincoln e Aubrie tinham uma atração muito forte um pelo outro, a química deles era incrível, eles não tinham nada em comum, mas se completavam. Era fofa a relação deles, sinceramente nunca vi um casal conseguir ser tão fofo e sujo ao mesmo tempo, mas eles conseguiram. KKKKK! A partir do momento em que os pais deles se casaram, mesmo antes até, eles tinham uma conexão, mas por conta do tabu, vem a distância estabelecida por eles como pretexto para o casal não ficar junto. Mas quando eles são colocados juntos na mesma casa anos depois, é claro para os dois que a distância não teve importância nenhuma, senão só aumentou a atração deles. Por um tempo durante a leitura eu cheguei a pensar que a Jules já tinha percebido isso há muito tempo e que ela tinha armado tudo isso deles de volta a mesma casa. Criei várias teorias sobre isso. Algumas coisas, assuntos como na relação dela com o filho e com a própria Brie ficou muito subentendido, queria ver mais diálogos, a personagem dela tinha muito potencial pra arrasar mais. Detestei o Cliff, que cara babaca, traiçoeiro. Ainda não consigo acreditar nas coisas que ele fez. Muito idiota. E os momentos de pegação?! PEGA FOGO CABARÉÉ! KKKKKK Sério, nunca mais verei uma mesa de bilhar da mesma maneira.
I read so any books it can be hard to keep track of all the plots and characters. A really good book will hang in my mind for a while and I learn from the info the author gives out.
Base jumping. What do you know about it? I learned more in this book, experienced it from the characters view, and can kinda understand why someone would jump off a tall building. Being respectful and fearful of heights, I got to experience this activity vicariously through Lincoln.
As for the falling in love with step-sister, she's a step, not a half, so it's fine. They both need to overcome their baggage, listen to their hearts. Stop rethinking themselves and worrying about what everyone else thinks, but then, without all that we wouldn't have a story, would we?
All in all, it was an excellent story. Well written, informative in a way that the author sneaks in the learning, and held my interest. Enjoyed it.
I enjoyed reading this story . Lincoln struggles are real. At his highest point he got strucked down. Only to struggle with broken bones, physical therapy and a criminal past. In the end it shows how important it is to keep moving forward to achieve greatness or your greatest potential. Aubrie was his true motivation. For her he was willing to risk it all. Good thing that she felt the same way for him. I like the banter between those two.
B.B. Hamel is one of my favorite authors and she delivered big time with Based. I loved everything about this book from the forbidden step sibling love affair to the cocky dirty talking bad boy who falls for his sweet stepsister. The story has some twist and turns and the romance between the main characters is hot, heavy and will leave you wanting more.
I absolutely love the start of thi series. I got so lost in it that I didn't want to put it down. The interactions between the characters was simply amazing. They give us so much insight and a liitle bit sass that it creates a fantastic storyline. I hope you be able to read the next in line in this series soon. Thank you B.B.Hamel for such amazing writing. 5 stars for sure.
Crude, rude, and totally graphic but makes the story perfect. I love the characters, they were like puzzle pieces that you keep moving around to see were they fit. Don't miss this one.
WOW, the chemistry between Lincoln and Brie is off the charts. Stepsiblings with different life styles will make you combust. I really enjoyed their banter and then their chemistry between the sheets. Hope you enjoy!
Loved this book! Lincoln is so cocky and arrogant but in such a way you can't help but adore him. Great book but then every book I have read of yours has been awesome!
