Frayed, Book 9 in the bestselling Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse series, picks up three weeks after Ghosts, Book 8, left off.
Outbreak - Day1 Like a fragile house of cards in a hurricane, Presidents, Premiers, entire governments and their ruling bodies disappeared instantly. Some had ensconced themselves in deep underground bunkers or remained holed up in fortified strongholds, but history would tell that most had been swallowed up by the dead - never to be heard from again.
Since that last normal Saturday in July, the Omega virus has indiscriminately delivered destruction and death to all four points of the compass—the latter having recently been visited upon former Delta Force soldier Cade Grayson and the small group of civilian survivors making their home in the subterranean compound near Eden, Utah.
In the three weeks since mounting a brash rescue mission to a zombie-infested Los Angeles and returning home to find lives of loved ones hanging in the balance, Cade has occupied himself with runs outside the wire to procure supplies necessary to ride out what the Farmer's Almanac predicts will be a long, cold winter.
As Cade and his team seize an unforeseen opportunity provided by the plummeting temperatures, he quickly realizes they are in a race against time—and nature’s fickle whims. And as they all labor to make the most of this gift horse, little does he know, even as Old Man Winter covers the valley with the first snow of the season, the infamous Mister Murphy is about to hurl a wicked curveball his way. Because like the fabled butterfly effect—a single action from the past is about to set in motion a chain of events that could at once spell doom for Eden as a sanctuary and scatter the entire group into the wind.
Come along and see if our tenacious little group will Survive the Zombie Apocalypse for one more precious day.
Cade and Co are back. The weather has turned, snow is falling on the Eden compound; but what is happening to the Zombies? Cade leads a mission to take advantage of it. Not to far away an anguished father is looking to find out who killed his daughter, and extract his own type of justice.
As usual Mr Chesser has created a twisty intricate plot, this time in a beautifully described winter wonderland. Well worth a read for fans of the series, and if you've not read this series, you are missing out.
Realistic Zombie Apocalypse? Yes! Cade Grayson and his group continue their quest to out survive the Zombies and the groups of people who threatened their existence. I say this each time, the storyline is meticulous in making every step believable. Shawn Chesser's series gets better and better with each book and Adam Paul does an outstanding performance.
Prolonging the answer to the cliffhanger through 40% of the book was a bit of overkill, tho! Don’t worry we are going to read the whole book without such trickery!
ByAmanda Felix "angelbuff"on August 12, 2015 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase After a long season of fighting, Cade and his group of survivors are earning a much needed respite.. Following the ending to the last book, I had no idea what to expect and it kept me on edge until I got my answer. If you've been following the series then you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't now is the time to pick up the series because it's a rip roaring, nail biting, exhaustive and harrowing ride. By the time you get to this one you will welcome the relative slow pace but it is deceiving. Thankfully winter has set in and Cade discovers something strange is happening to the Z's and he is determined to take full advantage of it. And they do, (spoilers) culling the now frozen dead. Of course it is a monumental task as they come upon small herds and very large hordes blocking roads and bridges. In the meantime, the incident that lead to Brook's injury is coming to a head as a Dregan, a father clearly obsessed with the loss of his daughter is determined to find and seek his own justice even if it means sacrificing himself and others. I did feel it started slow but as it progressed, I realized I was so used to the break neck speed of Cade's prior adventures it was like hitting a brick wall but this was inevitable although Cade is always careful no matter how safe it might seem. Brook is still recovering but she will not be anyone's victim waiting for the cavalry to arrive. She shines even more than the last episode and I'm glad she has come more into her own. Mr. Chesser has enthralled us with all the action, adventure, danger and fast paced drama expected in this genre. And he can also slow it down yet keep the intensity of anticipation that we know is sure to follow. This is after all a Zombie apocalypse and there is no such thing as a vacation because while the Z's are immobile, the rest of the human population is not and they can be just as dangerous. Yet another winner in an already great series.
WOW!!!! Each book in the STZA series keeps topping the last. The pace is unrelenting and I was on pins and needles the whole book dreading the possible loss of one or more of the main characters. The writing of this book and the ones before have made me really care and feel for the characters outcome. The hordes are getting bigger and more dangerous, if that is possible. If you haven't read any of Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse I would highly recommend you start. Shawn Chesser's writing is topnotch and the development of characters and plots just keeps getting better.A huge thumbs up for this book and all of Chesser's novels.
Shawn Chesser's attention to descriptive detail and ability to move a story forward with a combination of action and humanity are a welcome addition in the field of zombie/post-apocalypse novels. Those of you familiar with the area of Utah north of the Ogden Canyon (Huntsville/Snow Basin) will especially revel in the action taking place in that vicinity.
While I'm not a big fan of blatant cliffhangers at the end of these type of serial stories, I've already downloaded book 10 and anxious to jump back in.
Cade and the gang find little time to mourn the fallen as the ever present threat of the rotting hordes takes an expected twist. While their luck seems to have taken a turn for the good, they soon discover they may have more to fear from the living!
Plenty of action combined with edge of your seat drama and surprising plot twists make this another satisfying episode of STZA. I love this story and am looking forward to what will happen next!
I really love this series by Shawn Chesser. It is one of the main reasons that I get into reading this genre. If you haven't tried his books, you really should start with the first one titled Trudge and it won't be long before you are hooked. This is the story of a family that is separated at the beginning of the apocalypse and how they find each other and about their survival. And thank you Shawn, I didn't cry in this one!
What can I say?! The Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse books are great! Shawn Chesser keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire series. Frayed is the latest in a group of amazing books! If you are a fan of the Zombie genre, you need to read these books. Cafe and the group of survivors take it to it everyday, and keep on coming back for more! Buy this book! Buy them all, you won't be disappointed!
Shawn Chesser's series Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse is just that. How a group that becomes a family survives in this new world. With more hidden perils than zombies, this book leaves you on the edge of your seat. Each book in the series has a different set of toils and turmoil. You cannot go wrong with this series. I am starting the new book in the series...Drawl right now.
I love the characters in this series. Cade is the amazing military operator that guides the loose band of survivors with his strategic expertise yet he keeps managing to sprain his ankle. He is human and has a daughter and wife that are evolving to be their own brand of survivor. Love the series and can't wait to read the next book coming out in 2016.
Part of a series this volume continues the great storyline and character development. Not a lot of action in this chapter but lots of detail. Start from the beginning of the series--you won't be disappointed.
This book continues one of the best and most involving book series ever written. Every book keeps you on tender hooks and anxious to turn the next page. Thank you Mr Chesser. I am really looking forward to the next episode.
This series just gets better and better with each new book. I have looked forward to each installment from the very first book. I cannot wait until the next. Book comes out.
I found Frayed to be a little less exciting than the prior installments to this series. However, it still deserves a five star due to the great characters, sarcastic banter, and smooth progression the story makes that keeps you reading. I eagerly await the next book. Keep them coming, Chesser!
This one starts out with a bit of tension and just carried on from there. A lot of good does come about in this one, however. Some things get fixed and others go wrong but it group just keeps going. Starting the next one right now.
Shaun Chesser has done it again! The suspense is awesome and I am waiting impatiently for the next book! I have and keep recommending Shaun Chesser's book to everyone!
And another awesome read ! This series keeps getting better and better! I can't wait for the next one! Awesome job! Buy the series, you won't be disappointed!
This is another great book in Shawn Chesser's Zombie Apocalypse series. It was fast-paced and suspenseful, and as usual I was left wanting more when it ended.
This is a must read for any fan. The community struggles and then comes together in such a good fashion. I have enjoyed this series for sometime now and I excited that this is continuing.
What a great ride. As usual it was great to read again my favorite characters from this series. The action was good but I would have liked a bit more Max. Can't wait to read the next one.
Shawn Chesser just keeps the adrenaline pumping in this great series "Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse" Book #9. From the beginning (no spoilers here!)on the edge of our seat, to the next problem life or Mr. Murphy throws at Cade and the group, they just do what they must to survive the day and go on. They say "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and if that's the case everyone in this group should be "Atlas Carrying The World On His Shoulder". Kudos to Mr. Chesser, this gets better & better.
