Lucy and her Merry Band of Thieves are certain that if they can survive the farlig fisk, nothing is too great to tear them apart. They never counted on their ship landing in Bedra, a land filled with women who use lavender powder to suck the wills from the strongest of men. Jens faces his greatest test as he tries to make it out of Bedra unscathed by the manipulative Mares.
Tensions run high as laplanding takes Lucy and Jamie to a whole new level of angst that they must work through together. Foss sheds more layers of his Depravity of Man curse, catching Lucy’s eye as they trek through Undraland on their way to tear down the last portal in Elvage. Charles Mace stands by his sister’s side as her Uncle Rick makes an executive decision that changes Lucy’s life forever.

I honestly don't know how to rate this book. The world building was very good, the plot twists very, very good and definitely surprising (I really didn't expect that from Mace... I didn't care much about him but after his sacrifice I completely changed my view of him)... so for that the book should have 4 stars.
But the relationship between Foss and the heroine went from interesting and with lot of potential to plain weird. They kiss at every opportunity possible, anywhere and in any part of the body, but after he keeps slapping and hitting her, and again they embrace and kiss and they call each other dear husband/wife... that took me out of the story every time. What the heck was that? And especially I read on some reviews people saying they want them to end up together. WHAT? He may be under a course but still if you like being slapped around and humiliated at any turn you need to seriously reconsider your idea of "love" and "romance"...
Also I am not sure I want to continue reading a series were the author is butchering all the characters... (I still can't believe the author eliminated Harry Mancini in the previous book! That's pure evil!!!!) :(
At the end I decided to give 4 stars but I will probably take a break from this series and read something a bit lighter and happy... It's a very interesting series that really caught my attention but it is becoming now too heavy and gloomy to my taste, especially after they took out the little puppy wolf.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Man I don't know where to begin without doing spoilers so let me just say this is definitely a series worth reading and with all of the surprises and breath holding, NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO screaming it was definitely a test of all that I am to give this 5 stars when I am totally against one of the things the writer did but of course that wont stop me from reading the next one!. Great excitement and yes believe it or not the books in this series just keep getting better!!!

another one!

for a fantasy, there's lots and lots of physicality and violence, what with monsters, guardian gnomes, dwarfs, elfs, tokkens, and let's dare not forget fossegrimens (pronunciation of your choosing), and throw in the occasional were-ed (as in were bears and weredogs, and yes finally an actual werewolf that's really still just a pup, hence, loveable), and, watch out for the farlig fisk and the spindels! then there's a good dose if race specific idiosyncrasies like invisibility, laplanding, three and four note mesmerizing whistles and siren songs, and if you're up for it, enough human trafficking, female drug cartels who trade men's wills for glittery purple powder, betrayals, heartrending demises, apocalyptic weather symptoms, and an ever ready and running gattling gun of snarkiness and media heavy shtick to keep it all edgy and fun. but, whew! I wound up exhausted by every book I read. and wanting more.🤔🙄🤓

It was good to be back in the series. So many events, so many emotions, so many things - just so much to take in.
Foss really grew on me and I found myself hoping he and Lucy could be together.. or if not her, someone just as good. Alas, that’s not how the story panned out.
Harold.. RIP.
The layers to laplanding!! I didn’t see the second one coming at all and I didn’t even realise that they’d done it together again until the consequences came forth - I was thinking along the lines of ‘would killing again undo it’ and well well well.
The entire section regarding Thomas Jefferson hurt a little, I mean yes it’s a monster, but he wasn’t necessarily a monster. RIP.
Would Alrik have done what he did knowing that his abandonment would play a part in Charles doing what he did? Double RIP.

Ugh Terraway vibes all over again (Since I read the Terraway series first) with the forbidden love for Foss. Since I know how Terraway ends and both series are pretty similar; I’m hopeful that we’ve not seen the last of Foss yet. But in the same breath Lucy probably won’t end up with Foss (Unfortunately). The whole incestuous vibe with Mace was a little creepy but I still mourned the death of his character. I now know that to read Mary’s books I have to be emotionally and mentally prepared for character deaths left, right and centre. Nobody is safe. I’m glad that Jen’s isn’t as annoying flawed as Von (From the Terraway series)so far...

Not my favorite in the series

I don't like how Lucy left Foss. I don't like how she whined the whole time. But Foss even with his curse didn't deserve how she did him. All about forgiveness and quoting MLK but when it came time to put MLK's teachings to good use, she failed. Miserably.

I have never been so scarred emotionally by a book in my life. First half of the book was directed by Gene Roddenberry, the second half directed by Tolkien in order to KILL OFF ALL MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS

LET'S TALK REVIEWS:::::: *blinks repeatedly in awe as tears roll down my face* photo tumblr_mg9yc0rTvh1qjccmko1_500_zpssyped3xl.gif First let me just say! What the Shtick? Let me not get ahead of myself here. After defeating the Farlig Fisk with her humanly powers. Lucy and the gang journey on to Bedra, the isle of mares in order to continue onward to Elvage once again. Where we see superman hang up his cape. photo SupermanDoomsday9_zpsccmo7o4p.jpg A moment of silence for this fallen soldier. Tsk tsk tsk. Lucy is left to pick up the pieces of her broken heart after the loss of Tor and Henry Mancini. (let me just say that Mary E. Twomey is just being plain old mean killing our fave pup). Needless to say I'm surprised that our dear old Moxie Kincaid hasn't gone off the deep end yet. I'd be pulling at my hair and jumping overboard just to get home at this point. photo Going-crazy-reaction-gif_zps90fq7r96.gif She is faced with decisions that mostly consist of Fight or Flight. Perched at the end of my seat just waiting for that moment where Fight is the only thing she has left because she isn't willing to fight anymore with much a bated breath. Dead but very much alive husband in tow, she is forced to choose, Love over pride, Happiness over sanity. Give in or demand what I deserve. Little too late if you ask me. (I'd like to take this time to applaud Mary on writing about something that people face everyday. I've lost many a friends to this disease. so Brava ) Once again their journey is nothing short of tumultuous. More unfortunate events lead to new paths of self discovery as Lucy saves the day once again. Showing that woman power is a force to be reckoned with. photo tumblr_inline_o1awwbRPF01t21tin_500_zpscuzapttb.gif I can't say much more without giving the plot away. But our book ends at the portal to the other side. Who goes across is something that you have to read and find out.

I thoroughly enjoy this series, Lucy cracks me up with witty sense of humor. She survived being in Fossegrim and know has many more trials ahead of her. She is so much closer to getting home but has more traveling to do with her crew. Coming across things that way be the undoing of them but if they can survive they can survive everything.

Lucy is always by far a extremely likable character she takes the crap from others but still turns the other cheek when push comes to shove. Jens was well Jens, I love his character but he let weaknesses drive a wedge between him and Lucy. The others are just as awesome except for Foss never Foss. He shows kindness one minute a then hatred in the next but eventually even pacifist Lucy has had enough.

The author does a good job at bringing the characters and the land to life. I felt like I could relate with their situations. This was a fabulous read as well as the others and I can't wait to continue the journey along with Lucy and her crew. Ahhh I so enjoy these bouts into Undraland, I get the audiobooks and listen on my way home. I love these books the only downfall is it isn't a constistant voice that reads for Lucy, Boy I wish it was it makes the story more interesting.

The best of books, like the best of Authors, take on the responsibility of speaking up and out and about the important things. Elvage, the 4th book in Mary Twomey's Undraland series, like the previous books, does the same. In this very entertaining and readable installment, Twomey takes on misogyny, among other things. Twomey's powerful, frequently playful, and more often than not, profound voice sweeps me away into the story. I never find a point in any of Twomey's books where I want to put the book down, or get bored! Hot, tall guys aside, Mary Twomey writes with purpose and grace and Elvage is a great read.

I highly suggest you begin this series at the beginning, with Undraland, and Elvage is appropriate for 14 & up, when it is important for boys, and girls, to start seriously considering many of the issues Twomey tackles.

Honestly, how much can one girl handle? She's a champion with a silver tongue and a group of protectors to back her up. But when practically an entire land is out to get you and even luck seemes to be against you how do you keep going on? Clearly in Lucy's case it's her in inner strength and her merry, sometimes sullen, crew. But what happens when your inner strength cracks? When you can't trust your boyfriend? You're unsure of the caliber of your husband. Or when Your family makes choices for you? Choices that lead to death?.......Or worse.

well. that was an emotional roller coaster.
we go to Bedra and shit hits the fan... jens is stupid. foss is crazy. charles is ridiculous. ffs. lucy really takes charge, of herself and the mission. she kinda has to! britta grows a pair too!

i loved it, even though it hurt me so much... a lot of it i didn't like - not because it didn't make sense or was poorly written (because it was neither) - because it was so unfair and I'm genuinely sad about it.

next please!!!!

The 4th book begins with a huge shake up and then follows with a major smack down! The adventure continues but at the end of the book more questions arise. I am beginning to wonder if a white picket fence is even possible.
