The Prince's Slave #1-3

The Prince's Slave

Rate this book
Complete trilogy in one captivating volume

Shy, reclusive exchange student Belle Wainwright doesn’t know that her world is about to change. Talked into a night out against her better judgment, she finds herself in an exclusive club where she knows no one. And finds herself the target of slavers whose purpose is to satisfy those men—and women—whose tastes have grown too dark for the modern world. Whose needs cannot be met by normal means. Who love…but on their own terms.

Abandoned by her friends, she’s simultaneously rescued and captured by a man who is at once a hero and a figure from nightmare. A dark prince who hints, enigmatically, at his own even darker needs. Who describes himself as a man with no soul. But who is, nonetheless, beautiful and brilliant. And whom Belle finds captivating, even though she knows she shouldn’t….

P.J. Fox published her first story when she was ten. Between then and the present moment, she detoured to, in no particular order, earn several degrees (including a law degree), bore everyone she knew with lectures about medieval history, get married, and start a family. She realized, ultimately, that she had to make a go of this writing thing because nothing else would ever make her happy.

Wow…loved this series! As I write this review I am torn between a 4 and 5 star review. I landed on 5 stars. Let me try and explain…

The story is a modern adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. It is well written, frightening at times, extremely erotic at other times, romantic, and a fictional read that felt so real that it tugged at my emotions. This series captured me like few other books and I couldn’t wait to get back to the story when I was pulled away to do such mundane things…like going to work. I love dark romantic books, especially when the heroine is captured and there is a non-con feeling to the relationship. This booked scored 10 stars on those accounts. I loved how the characters were developed and how vivid the scenes were described. So much so, that I felt like a voyeur watching things unfold or in many cases disrobe. You know the story has captured you when you feel the full, uncomfortable pressure of the butt plug as it is inserted into the heroine or the not so gentle love scenes that leave you panting. Pause to fan…

Where I thought the series fell short was at times the story went off the rails and lost its focus. The chapters were short, but some of them could have been eliminated and the story would not have lost anything. In fact, the story would have been tighter and even more of a page-turner without the transgressions. With that said, I don’t want to steer potential readers wrong…the story was vivid and when it was good, it was oh so good. Do NOT let my last comment keep you from reading this series!

I leave you with some of my random thoughts (Please don’t read this section unless you have read the books):

Human trafficking is not sexy or romantic. It is real and the victims are treated like animals. Therefore I could not have any feelings for Ash other then disgust. We are told that he is not a slave trader but he does know what is going on since he was at the auction. His I was not really going to buy anyone does not excuse him for not taking action to help these poor victims . He is just like the rest of these parasites of society.

As far as Belle's behavior it just got more and more insane. This dirt bag buys her, takes her virginity , because he can, physically punishes her because he loves to hear her cry and be in pain. He spanks her with his hand until she bleeds. We are made to believe that she does not suffer from Stockholm syndrome. Right! She is just as fucked up as Ash. She also had opportunities to make the law aware what is going on and where. But she was too self absorbed to give a shit.

The writing was great but the way the human trafficking and her enslavement was handled just hit me wrong.
It never really showed that Belle was into pain. She accepted it because it made Ash happy. She never had a chance to find out what she sexually liked because she was being brainwashed and conditioned from the moment Ash bought her.

I will not review this book as I did not finish at about 35%. While the writing was beautifully descriptive the pace of the story was too slow for me. I really tried but I prefer something a bit more fast paced.

An interesting take on two lost people finding each other

Overall I like this story a lot. I came to really enjoy the characters of Ash and Belle. I say that because at first I did not as it seemed they were in fact the stereotypes thy both professed to not enjoy. I was wrong about them though for as the stories continue we see the internal growth and expressing of themselves and it is fantastic..

I enjoyed the development and showcasing the similarity in their stories even when they were from such a vastly different background. I do not
Think the blurb is really an accurate representation of the book or stories, but I enjoyed the story and characters greatly! I look forward to reading more from this author 💋

I'm not made for erotic horror/bsdm. But especially not when it messes with your mind as the male lead does to the heroine. Similar ideas are in her House of Light and Shadow, so much so that it feels like the author is trying to preach male domination and multiple partners as acceptable and if people would just let go of inhibitions then they can be happy. As if fidelity is hurtful!

I had sympathy for the male lead (I can't call him a hero) for his childhood experiences but none for his behavior as adult. People choose and he evens uses that argument to explain that an alcoholic has a choice to drink or not. It is difficult to have a narcissist as a hero. This story would have been very different if the heroine hadn't turned out the way she did--I mean enjoying pain. I don't care if she she ended up falling for him; I didn't see how he was a good man. To me, he sexed her up, she emotionally attached to him so completely she didn't want to leave him or even contact her friends or family when she could.

I do agree that Disney has damaged the hopes and dreams of girls. But there are decent men in the world even if they aren't royalty. Sexual abuse begets sexual abuse, not free love.

Great read

I had acquired book 1 as a freebie for kindle. I was only 80pgs in to it when I looked up the author and bought the rest of the book.
The author her self couldn't of said it any better :
" The challenge is to balance sex and plot in such a way that neither is distracting. Too much plot and it’s not erotic, too much sex and it’s boring. The right balance is what, more than anything else, moves the plot forward. Not to mention, makes you care what happens to the characters! Which is its own separate challenge: how do you create characters that, while keeping the fairytale element so crucial to all successful romances, feel real?"
If you enjoy reading about the " life style" you will enjoy this.
I will say if you can't handle slave trading , human trafficking (which only has a scene in the book but is talked about throughout) then this book isn't for you.
You like happily ever after endings then this is a must. There is ALOT of intellectual thinking in this book that makes you see things in a different light.

Phenomenal!

I don't usually write reviews so, when I do, it is because the book was really good. I lost sleep because couldn't put this down. I haven't read anything by this author previously, but I will be checking out her other books.
I was also very impressed with her knowledge and her insight. As well as not being treated like a mindless idiot!
Totally agree with her take on Boston/Cambridge! Being a Bostonian, I found myself giggling at her observations.

Instead of fiction i was reading the entire encyclopedia.
It was like getting a school lecture on history of Romania and Vlad the Tepes, Hindoes, etc....i did learn a great deal so maybe that's a plus?...
There was also too much of descriptive thoughts and inner monologue......it went on forever!
I did not like the hero, he was just repulsive to me, that sadness me because i did like the latest work of this author (Fallen) and i thought this would also be amazing as well. I am into the grittier alpha male, and have a lot of trouble buying the HEA when either half of the couple are sleeping with someone else and are forever in love with each other. It's bad enough to know he was like that before, but seeing it or knowing it in the presence makes it impossible for me to ignore. I realize that's a very powerful part of the fantasy for a lot of people, but it does not works for me. Personally, the stories I like best are when the hero meets the heroine and can no longer think of any other woman or men (sexually) and they find their HEA. I guess I am just an old-fashioned girl.

I'm just a big fan of this author's writing style. Her ability to write is just phenomenal! However, this book is certainly not going to be everyone's cup of tea. Ash and Belle are also not the most likable. Belle can be very judgemental and without purpose and Ash just grew up reveling in his privilege and riches. Belle spends much of the book fearing Ash, who had bought her from an auction, but then "falling in love" and "choosing to stay with him". I'm of the opinion that she heavily suffers from Stockholm Syndrome even if she strongly refutes it.

Very slow and didn't keep my interest for too long. I only got about 30% in and it took me 3 weeks so just do that because I didn't know if I wanted to risk my time with reading it or not.

Compelling, dark and brilliant.

I've read this trilogy in one sitting (about 5 hours) as it was too good to put down.
I admit that in the beginning I did find it a little slow, the emphasis was more on building the character, outlining the thoughts, experiences and emotions that have shaped the person we are being introduced to rather than progressing the story. However, once it gets going it does not stop.

It's a beautiful story at heart.

I really love P.J. Fox's main characters. I don't like lots of inner dialogue generally, "The Hunger Games" is an example. But, Fox's mc's inner dialogue is wonderful. They are thoughtful, intelligent and Fox is able to convey with success the world she is trying to introduce us, the vanilla world, to. Fox is also able to take us into her world with a fascinating story, not with titilation and shock but with story crafting

Well I did a lot of skimming...a lot of talking going on. I kept forgetting this was a captive book, she pretty much accepted this right away.. You know I did like him, he was so calm and patient and he clearly fell in love with her
