(P: Poor)

despite the beautiful cover, this book was the Poorest one in the Michael Vey. after that Bombarda in book 2, I hate to say this one was boring, dragged, could have jumped into action sooner. (not 40 pages to the end)
the planning part was boring. info dump; many expertise details about ships (which made the story plain & I didn't really care about it. It wasn't practical to keep reader on track (or on the edge of our seats), it was like I was reading a catalogue about a boat)
& no fun. (except once with Ostin & once with Michael)

it was more mediocre than an exciting adventurous YA/middle grade. (I adore a good middle grades) this book didn't meet the expectation.
even the characters weren't realistic (not like the previous books) & acted childish, thoughtless. (it was like they were exhausted, I know they are only 15. but still, they didn't have good & rational motives to act like that.)
Tessa was a whiny brat, considering to where she stayed, she was the most childish one.

🔺 but the ending was exciting, I think my heart raced at that moment, but it was only 30 pages so I can't rate because of that or it would be unfair. (not to mention unrealistic)
I didn't mean I hate it (as I did for other 2 stars), I'm not saying 'don't like/don't care', I definitely did not want to DNF this book or throw it at wall, I still love the general concept of Electric superhuman I still care about these characters, but I didn't enjoy more than the majority of this book.

Michael Vey 1: Prisoner of Cell 25: ★★★★/5
Michael Vey 2: Rise of Elgen: ★★★★/5

these are only about this book, not the whole series:
World building: ★★★/5
Characters: ★★★/5

plot: ★★/5
General idea: ★★★/5

I was disappointed with book 3 of the series. Let me explain why.

1) the first 4 sections seemed to drag on. The pace was slow and I nearly put the book down.
2) it seemed like several of the rescue scenes happened too easily. The conflict built but it resolved way too easily
3) too much detail during the plan of the attack
4) since it had been a long time since i read the last book in the series, I had forgotten who all the kids were. There was no reintroduction of any of them and I was confused. They became just a string of characters. I still don't remember Abigal or Jack or several of the others even at the end of the book. It felt like the characters were used for their roles but weren't developed as individual characters, but just a group.

Michael and his friends have destroyed one of the Elgen plants, and now find themselves scattered across the Amazon rainforest in Peru, running from not only the Elgen guards, but the Peruvian police force as well. When Michael’s friends are captured, facing trial for terrorism, Michael is determined to take the risks necessary to free them. Even if some of them won’t survive….even if he won’t survive. Of course, the evil Dr. Hatch, head of the Electroclan, is still in the background, desperate to collect the “electric kids” for his own army, so Michael must stay two steps ahead of him, too, if he is going to save his friends, and himself.

“Battle of the Ampere” is the third book in the The Prisoner of Cell 25 series, by Richard Paul Evans. Evans is known for his heart warming, completely emotional stories (especially his Christmas themed ones, like “The Christmas Box”) and I was a little on the fence about trying his first jump into YA. But right from book one, I immediately loved Michael and all of his “Electroclan” friends, and I found the novel to be an easy read, full of action, adventure and teenage angst. Although if I’m being honest, this third novel was not one of the best.

I loved the atmosphere in this one, the beauty of the Amazon rainforest and the arid Peruvian landscape, and of course, it was easy to cheer for the affable Michael and his friends. Michael’s girlfriend, Taylor, returns, as does Ostin, McKenna, Jack, Wade and Zeus, with a new addition, Tessa that perfectly rounds out the electrically charged group of renegades. Evans’ Michael Vey series is one of those that should be read from beginning to end- it will make sense if you read the individual stories, but it will be a bit confusing and not as enjoyable of an experience.

The writing is easy to read, being a YA novel, and some of the conversations are simple and almost irrelevant, but in general the story flowed well. There was a lot of action (what with two different entities searching for the group of teenagers and all) but the majority of it occurred during the final third of the novel, with the first sections mostly focused on the introduction of Tessa and the new rainforest environment that Michael finds himself in.

Of course this story ends on a cliff-hanger, as there are several other books in the series, but it did provide a satisfying enough conclusion to tide me over until I get the chance to read book four. A cute little YA series for fans of “Divergent” or “Maze Runner”, Evans will no doubt generate his own group of devout Electroclan followers (the Electrofans, perhaps)?

(minor updates)

I’ll say 4.5 stars. This picks up right where Book 2 left off. At the beginning, Michael is separated from his friends but meets a new Glow. Meanwhile, the rest of the Electroclan has been picked up by the Peruvian army for terrorism. The biggest action in the book is their attempts to escape and ultimately reunite with Michael. Meanwhile, Hatch furthers his evil schemes, and the Voice asks the Electroclan for help striking back. There’s a climactic battle, and the last page sets up the next book.

While the book is full of action, it starts to take an emotional toll on our characters. Their grief and fear is very real. The chapters are generally very short, which might make the story feel choppy to some, but are a result of the author’s ADHD.

Michael and his friends managed to rescue his mother but now the group is separated in the Peruvian jungle. Taylor's group is captured by the Peruvian army with ties to Elgen. Initially, Michael is laying low with an indigenous tribe where he meets another electro-kid, Tesla. Eventually, Jamie collects them to travel through the jungle and try to rescue Taylor's group. The Voice has given Michael a new mission - to sink the Ampere (the Elgen's main vessel) before it leaves Peru - and Michael will need everyone's help to do so.

Alright, so the third book in the series and I'm still enjoying it. Considering that the characters spend most of their time either locked up or traipsing through the jungle, there is still a lot of action that occurs. They don't actually start their real mission with the Ampere until the 3/4 mark. The characters grow up a lot in this book, especially when tragedy strikes. The Elgen suffer too in this book but are not defeated. Michael and his friends still have work to do. As much as I love this series, I am going to take a brief break from it and hope to pick up book 4 later in the summer. I'm hoping that one of my kids might catch up to me so we can read it together.

I really loved the first two books in this series and I will say the third one was very good too!
But, since there WILL be a fourth book, I hope it doesn't go downhill like the Maximum Ride series.

I wanted to love this book like I love the first two, but I was really disappointed. Plot was good/ Mr. Hatch was still evil bastard, but the pacing was slow. For someone with so much power, Mike doesn't use it. He sneaked around more than anything. There were other problems such as , the lack of action, there was no real threat, no superpower fights. There were only a tiny little firefight here and there. There is no huge payoffs at the end that makes the reader wants to read the next book. It was like Mr. Evan just decided write a story really fast. There was no heart, no soul, just as shell of a book. Oh and Taylor is stupid. yeah I really didn't like this book. it was just right. I really hope this is last book of series, because this is weakest of the three. I don't know if I am going to read the next one.

I love the magnetic power. It's such a cool thing that he used it to climb up the sides of a boat. All the secondary characters are really fun and add so much to the story. This cover is gorgeous too!

I don't think very many authors can pull off a series with more than 5 books. I have yet to find out if Richard Paul Evans can but things are getting a little repetitive here so things better pick up in the next book. Based on the synopsis, it seems like it might which is good. All that being said, I still enjoyed Battle of the Ampere a lot. I cried at the end:( poor Jack. But on to the fourth book!!

I have a lot of thoughts about this book. Please scroll for spoilers:

THINGS I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK:
I like how hard the Electroclan worked to do all that they had to do.

I love that Michael learned more about his magnetic powers and practiced how to use them.

I liked the Voice and how they helped the Electroclan.

I liked the relationship between Taylor and Michael.

I loved the character, Jamie - and I was glad he was good for his word.

Tessa was a cool, new character. I liked her power and how it effected the others.

I liked Taylor's role, and how she became the group's leader during the time she & Michael were separated.

I'm okay that Hatch escaped, I "get" that we don't want the series to be overwith (although, it would
be nice if the kids could at least see their families for a day between life or death missions).

THINGS I COULDN'T BLAME THE CHARACTERS FOR:
When half of the Electroclan decided they had had enough, I didn't blame them and I think that was realistic.

When they whined.

Tessa, for when she was grumpy.

Things I thought were sad, but realistic:
When all the Amacarra Amazon tribesmen were slaughtered. So sad, but what I would expect.

When Wade died - this was very realistic for how much danger they were in to loose one of the group.

When the rocks wouldn't slide down the road to jailbreak their friends while they were being transferred by the Peruvian Army.

WHAT DISAPPOINTED ME:
The way Hatch took over the Board. You would think there would be better security to protect the board and that they would have a hidden gun to protect themselves nearby, something to defend themselves. I also thought Hatch would have been a little more eloquent with his plan to take over vs. just killing people. It felt unoriginal.

How much fighting to save the world can a group of teenagers withstand and not have a mental breakdown? They had to push so hard for so long, it seemed like too much to me - they had to be ready to drop physically, emotionally and mentally. And, yet, they are ready to move on to the next mission with no downtime...

Also, since Michael had left the ipod in one of the trucks, I was surprised that the Elgen were not able to do some more destruction to the Voice since they finally realized they had a resistance fighting them. I don't want the Voice to be hurt, but honestly, it seems that GPS signals could have been traced. It felt like a key piece of information that just happened to not have extensive backlash for all of the good guys.

There was so much build up to the very end, and then it felt very rushed to me. It was at 85% and they had not attacked the Ampere yet. I think there should have been more of a confrontation with Hatch and that the whole end piece should have been paced a little better.

Where were the other electric kids that Hatch has a tight leash on? I thought they would have been present for the final battle.

I think it tied up a little too perfect in the end with the predictable ending of the remaining Electroclan kids coming back to help fight.

I felt like the last few pages were rushed to throw in the cliffhanger plot for the next book. It would have been more meaningful to me if it were built up a little more and had some foreshadowing.

RPE needs to slow down the endings and pick up the pacing in the first half of the book, and build the plot for future books more than 3 pages before the ending. It's hard to be vested in a cliffhanger ending when the newest conflict barely arises that is completely different and never before mentioned until the very last few pages. I don't feel as though I will be dying for the next book to come out. Sure, I will read it, but I'm not ::dying:: for it to come out, now.

Just my 2 cents...

First Read: September 20-21, 2013
Re-read: September 16-18, 2016

The first time reading this, I gave it a 5 star rating. At the time, I blazed through the book, loving the action and the adventure; the espionage and the suspense were...shocking, to say the least

Puns aside, re-reading it, and with the knowledge of the prior two books more fresh in my mind than when the first time I read it, this installment seemed to lose a little bit of its edge. There were introductions to more characters and it seemed like a little to much to keep up with. Also, the book seemed to have this plateau effect: where the plot would pick up, then at a point, stagnate for a time, then pick back up. Rinse and repeat. So that docked a star down.

But that does not mean I didn't enjoy this book. In fact, this series is still as fun reading as the last two books. They're quick; the chapters are relatively short, which makes the reading even quicker, without missing the important details.

I really love this series, sure its a bunch of rag-tagged teens with amp'ed up powers and a few non-amp'ed. But they have some everyday problems in the midst of trying to save the world from a threat. You really need to read these in order to see the group develop and understand the threat.

Another book in the series that delivered nicely. I think it was well constructed and offered some interesting challenges beyond the physical ones. The introduction to additional depth regarding feelings and relationships was a welcome bonus. I think it is well worth the time to read and it is intriguing to see where the author will push the characters next.

"Battle of the Ampere" is book 3 of the Michael Vey series. It's for kids, I know, but I like to review these so-called kids books because they can go really, really wrong and parents don't take the time to find out, so I find out.

This is a good book. It's not quite as good as the previous two books but still a winner. In this continuing story, Michael Vey has escaped the clutches of the evil Dr. Hatch, but Hatch is (yes, I know :-)) hatching another scheme to take over the world!

OK, Michael is still lost in a Peruvian jungle where we left him at the end of book two. No secret there, but the Peruvian government is really torqued off that they've lost their electricity. They are looking at our heroes as if they were terrorists and the Peruvian government wants to bring them to justice...and then shoot them. :-)

Any problems with this story? Well... no. Not really. It's for kids. It reads out really nicely into short chapters so that parents could use this as a bedtime reader. It's not dumbed down but it does use simple language. They've cut back on their usage of "On it!" every time a task is given to one of the Electro-Clan, as they call themselves. That is appreciated.

There is violence in the book. People are shot. People die. It's not graphic but it does happen. Just so you know.

There is also a love story developing but it is a chaste love with some kissing but no necking. Promises are made but nothing anyone could take seriously. It is not icky. :-)

There is an obvious opening for a sequel but the ending for this book is satisfying.

I'm glad I read it.

If you're looking for a clean, fast-paced story about some teens with super powers (involving electricity), then this is the series for you. Book 3 picked up right where {book:Rise of the Elgen|12512738] left off. This is not a stand-alone. To fully understand the situation Michael Vey and his friends find themselves in and the battle they face, you need to read the first two books.

What I like the most about Michael Vey is that he is not perfect. He's not the typical popular jock who has everything going for him. He uses his brains to get in and out of situations and he is a friend to all. He suffers from Tourette's and doesn't seem to make friends really easily--until now.

I love all the powers that these characters have and how they compliment each others talents.

Content: some violence, but nothing else that stood out. Clean.

This book was pretty good. It was action-packed and very interesting... until a certain character named TESSA appeared and suddenly I started hating every page except for the ones she wasn't on the pages without her were the only good ones. But before she appeared I was quite happy and content with how things were going. Overall great book. Hate Tessa and hopes she dies.😁

Michael Vey is a young man, that was born with electrical powers. He can conduct and control electricity throughout his body by, what he calls, pulsing. This book's genre is Sci-Fi, and does a great job to make it seem like it is possible. It is very, very detailed, and almost puts the reader into the action. There are many details, that gives the reader all the information you need to see a specific image in their head, and almost never gives a broad description. The characters are as follows; Ostin, the smartest of them. Michael, the leader. Taylor, the girl that can confuse anyone. Zeus, the brute force of them. McKenna, the optimistic, kind woman. Abigail, the fragile type. Ian, though blind, is their vision. Jack, the teenage warrior. And Wade, Jack's friend, and under his command. Tessa, later met, is a jealous, but kind woman.
The setting is mostly in Peru, and that does a great amount of importance, because there, the most spoken language is Spanish, and it makes the enemies harder to understand, and much harder to know what they might do, because the protagonist and his friends are from America, and don't know the language, except for one character. The protagonist, Hatch, is trying to take over the world, and wants it so only he is in the highest command. Because in the last book, the team, named the Electroclan, destroyed a power plant, powering over 80% of Peru, the Peruvian government wants to capture these delinquents, and give them to hatch. They have a large bounty on them as well, just to put the cherry on top of the cake. Whilst the Electroclan is going to the Ampere, a superyacht containing Hatch, Wade Wilson is killed, and Jack makes it his life's purpose to get vengeance on Hatch for Wade. In the next major event, the Electroclan manage to get on the Ampere, and sneakily blow up the ship, but not before reuniting with the rest of the clan, as they had "abandoned" them to have a normal life, for a short time. Successfully blowing up the ship, the clan then return to shore, but receive news that Hatch lives, and is going for a target that can create more "electric" children. It was the Electroclan against the Ampere, a mission impossible *cough cough* fission impossible *cough cough* of bunch of teens, against a powerful, menacing, large superyacht.
The event that changed Jack's life is when Wade died. Wade was the only one that he had, he was his pupil, his leader, a little brother to him, if you will. Jack was the only one Wade had, and Jack pushed him past his limits, treated him horrible, yet loved him. Jack completely blames his death on himself, and cried superfluously, telling Michael to try to shock him alive. Jack went through grief for a week, building his muscle, pushing himself, to try to get back at Hatch, his name probably made him infuriated Jack. The use of 1st person between the characters is absolutely astonishing. Evans uses the fact that the reader might want to think of what is happening to the protagonist, or what their plans might be, to his advantage, by giving them that power, and at the same time adding suspense. It always switches between main characters, such as Taylor, Michael, Hatch, Michael's mother, and any other main character, giving their thoughts, and perspective of the story. It gives the reader chills, sadness, or any other emotion the character is feeling. Sometimes it may be fear, other times happiness, or other times anger.
I was very, very moved at the end, when they celebrated Wade's birthday, because it was so great that everyone knew when Wade's birthday, and even made a birthday cake with candles for Jack to blow out, in honor of Wade. I cried a little bit, and in the book it said the even Jack cried, intensely almost, and I just love how the author added this in, he was so thoughtful, and so strong with the words he chose to describe everything. Another thing I like how the author did was at the end, when a guard grabs Taylor by an arm, and it almost looks as if she is going to be captured, when Michael shouts at the guard, he stops, and Michael throws a ball of electricity at him, knocking him unconscious. It is always just so cliche to see a damsel being hauled away, giving the next movie or book the plot. Evans did such a good job at being the better author, and not being cliche, but instead gave a very unique plot in the next plot, by doing this, it's just so remarkable, I want to give him a great high five.
I rate this book a 5.5 out of 5, just for the great detail, the good plot, and an overall great book, it is just so creative, and attaching, that sometimes you just can't put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes Sci-Fi, the wonders of electricity, or people that want to be moved by this book. If you liked star wars, then you are going to love this. This book is about a team of unnatural teens, that can manipulate at their will, though few people know this, these teens embrace their powers as if it is nothing to them at all. Half of these teens took down a superyacht, and also took down an entire power plant, just by themselves. And that is just a foretaste of what's to come.

There were so many problems with this book. I'm surprised I finished it. I picked it up because I currently can't get anything from the library (they hate me), I'm all out of book money due to my last purchase (a truly brilliant book), and it's one of the few books at my mom's house I haven't read. Next time I'll pass.

Does anyone else have a problem with adults knowingly sending a bunch of kids into danger and almost certain death? Hey you, fifteen-year-olds, here's a backpack full of explosives. Go blow up a superyatch with thousands of guards, a highly advanced security system, and a homicidal psycho on board!

Then there's the times the author conveniently ignores electricity's properties (like that metal conducts it), while at other times using those same properties to solve a problem. I really have a problem with authors who ignore their own rules for convenience sake.

Then there's the problem presented by Hatch. I cannot believe anyone would like and trust him enough to follow him. He has no redeeming qualities, so I really can't suspend my belief long enough to think he really could gain the trust of some smart teens, some highly sophisticated business people, and thousands of guards. I do think there are people out there like Hatch, with zero conscience, delusions of grandeur, and a serious need for medication, but I don't believe the majority of the population is stupid or desperate enough to follow people like this. There's usually some sort of redeeming quality that draws people to follow their lead.

And last I'm going to harp on today is how this book is actually written. It has such a condescending note to it. I think the author believes his target audience is stupid. Really. And it's annoying.

I didn't love this book as much as the second one, - just too much running around in the Peruvian jungle, and too much separation from the other teens. The big question here is who is the Voice? How does the group he represents always know what the Electroclan is accomplishing or when they need help? How can they ferry folks around the world to safety so fast. Are they part of the US government since they seem to find safety in the US? Lots of questions about this group and how they work. That will keep me reading. It was so predictable that some of the group would abandon Michael and his loyal friends, and also predictable that some would also come back. I could see that coming a mile away. This was a more depressing book because of the discouragement of the teens. The final fight scenes on board the ship was too short, while the jungle scenes too long. A death was predictable but still effective and especially the loyalty of his best friend. It also was sort of fake and phoney, but so predictable that Hatch would get away,,,, again! I guess he'll keep getting away as long as Evans wants to keep the series alive. I'm not sure how long this can be sustained. It is getting a little formulaic, like a Nancy Drew mystery. Change of scenery, but pretty much the same thing happens again and again. For the next book, I think Hatch should come and seek out Michael, instead of the usual. I disliked the torture and murder again. I know it has to be done to enhance the evil of Hatch, but still it is too much for me.

Imagine having electricity powers. It would be great wouldn't it? Michael vey the battle of the Ampere by Richard Paul Evans is wonderful and well written. It starts off when michael is still with the indians and tessa(one of his new electrical friends). Michael and tessa go up river and meet with an old friend named jamie. Michael wants to retrieve his friends from jail to destroy Dr. Hatch. They do so and journey to the ampere the boat that Dr. Hatch is on. I think this book is very valuable to me, because I have never read a book like this one. This book never gets boring, sometimes you just get bored talking about one person for a while, but this book is so packed full of action and suspense there isn’t really anything else I don’t like about it. I agree with a lot of the author's perspective. I wouldn't be able to think of anyone who couldn't make a connection with book. For one thing he makes it so life like it's so easy to see what is going on. It matter a lot, the author switches for like Michael to Dr. Hatch and whoever else is in it, I guess it changes every once in awhile. This book makes me feel like I am in it, as in I’m a character in the book. I can practically see everything that's going on. I have no idea what the theme is it isn’t really clear. If I would have to say a them, it would probably have to be the evil never prosper. Because whatever Dr. Hatch tries to do it almost always turns back on him.

I wanted to wait a couple days before writing a review to let things settle in my mind a bit. So, it's been 2 days since I finished the book - I sat down to write a review and can't even remember anything specific I was going to say. Perhaps that in and of itself speaks volumes (ha ha) about the book.

Sort of a "by the numbers" bit of literature. Not a single surprise in the plot (or writing) for me. I'm glad I read it so I can talk about it with my younger reading friends, but overall - I don't imagine there will really be much to talk about. Pretty run-of-the-mill-filler-book-to-make-the-series-longer.

We'll see what the next installment brings.

Nice story, but little happened. There wasn't even a suspenseful ending or a cliffhanger. It was moderately paced, predictable, and just plain ho-hum. And it just ended with a convenient set up for the next edition.

I think Evans may be trying to crank out too many books (series) in a year. This one certainly did not have the charm of the first, or the action of the second.

I've heard there are to be seven books in this series. I hope not.
