Tremors are a part of everyday life in big Alaska.
Bush pilot, Xavier Markovic, goes with nature's flow and loves it. He guides guests through Denali National Park to show off his beloved state. Until health issues arise for his mentor, Daniel Chevalier, and Xavier flies him to the hospital.
An almost fatal tumble down a mountain ends Devin Chevalier's professional mountain biking career and brings him to a crossroads. Learning his grandfather is ill, he makes a rash decision. Uprooting his life for a chance to meet Daniel, he crosses paths with a brash Alaskan.
Alaska throws them another surprise in the form of a huge earthquake. Differences put aside while they struggle to survive.
A quiet one, Nicole Dennis is the penname of an asexual author of different genres of fiction – both LGBT+ and hetero. Lots of characters, worlds, and stories build up in her head until she must get them down on the screen – anything from romance to fantasy to paranormal.
During the day, she works in a quiet office in Central Florida, where she makes her home, and enjoys the down time to slip into her imagination. She is owned by a feline companion – a fluffy house panther, known as Midnight the Void. A very special furbaby who is FIV+ and polydactyl on her front paws (fluffy danger mittens!).
Xavier isn’t sure of Devin’s motives at first of why out of the blue he wants to see his grandfather after all these years until he is sick and in the hospital. Devin has to convince Xavier he only wants a chance to know the grandfather his family has kept him from. Devin is a thrill seeker and was a mountain bike champion until a nasty accident hurt his knee and stopped him from riding in competitions. He thinks he is qualified to help with his Grandfather’s company in mountain bike tours. I really liked this story a lot. It is pretty much a fast paced story and is insta love or at least insta attraction between Devon and Xavier but it is good. I liked the blend of the romance, Xavier’s past romance, Devon’s grandfather’s illness and the earthquake. If you like natural disasters, instant attraction, beautiful scenery, earthquakes and a sexy romance this is definitely for you
With Daniel, his best friend and mentor, in the hospital with heart problems, Xavier finds himself saddled with Daniel's long lost grandson Devin to introduce to Daniel's Alaska wilderness guide company. Devin, a champion mountain bike racer from Colorado, took a fall down a mountain and is no longer able to compete. With nothing to keep him in Colorado he packs up his belongings and bikes and moves to Alaska to get to know the grandfather a family rift never let him know before. After an introductory hike and camp along some of the trails in Denali National Park, Xavier and Devin find their mutual attraction. The sex is hot and Xavier thinks he may have found his soulmate. When they return to the lodge disaster strikes and their relationship may end tragically before it even begins. A great story with plenty of foreshadowing of the looming calamity and lots of hot man on man sex. Another terrific short novella by one of my favorite authors.
When Devin grandfather that he has not seen ever turns up in hospital. He gets an call from xavier who has been with aadaniel his grandfather and an mentor since . Xavier doesn't trust devin and his plans why he is there but slowing he changes his mind.
I can't pinpoint the specific components of this book that made me fall in love with it. I enjoyed the MCs and their relationship dynamic, the rich description of the Alaskan wilderness, the inspired secondary characters and the inclusion of detailed backstories that tied all of the characters together in an engaging, original storyline. This book told a story that was quietly captivating, uniquely sensual and perfect in its simplicity.
Sexy and different. Highly recommended.
* At $4.99, the price of this book is a bit steep for an 86 page read. I would be happy to lend my Kindle edition to any interested parties. First come, first serve, of course...
I was looking forward to reading this, as it looked like an enemies-to-lovers story; that's a trope I love. Unfortunately, it didn't quite deliver.
This was an okay story, as romances go, and it was overall nice. But that's about it. There wasn't much to be excited about, and it didn't feel especially original. There were a lot of standard romance cliches, including instant love. A lot of it read like pages out of an Alaska guide book. Even the sex scene was disappointing. There was really no need to educate readers (incorrectly) on top-bottom-neither power dynamics in the middle of their intimacy. It really drew me out of the moment.
The story really picked up with the earthquake, and that was the best-written part. It was really intense seeing Devin's reaction as an outsider. If it had come into play sooner, the story would have been much faster paced and interesting.
I think in reality, I'm probably not the target audience for this story.
