The Art of Being a Brilliant NQT:

Rate this book
This book will take the NQT through a journey which starts with interviews, leads them through the first visit before taking up the job and then into the first hectic weeks and months. Light in touch but rich in content, it can be read around the pool during the holidays before the start of term or kept by the bedside or in a desk drawer for an emergency flick through once teaching gets under way! It expands on the stuff that teacher training touches on, but importantly provides a refreshing look at the nitty-gritty stuff that most training doesn't!

- getting a job - dealing with workload - discipline - preparing eye-catching lessons - dealing with parents - pastoral care - being a form tutor - dealing with colleagues - dealing with boys - getting involved in school life - taking trips - marking - assemblies - career development and much more...

A brilliant book for NQTs.

I read this after finishing my trainee year- I start my ECT role in September and it’s given me such good ideas and advice for what to prepare for next year, questions to ask, behaviours to adopt and how to be a positive person and not a mood hover!!

I found this book so helpful and a nice light read (a distraction from all the textbooks!). I think it is applicable to initial teacher education/placement even before you are an NQT (probationer) and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is in teacher education.

A wholesome, positive, and career affirming read. Bought this when seeing Gary and Chris live at a teaching training event, and have dipped into it constantly throughout my first PGCE teaching placement. Moving onto terms 2 and 3, I'll expect to continue using it for all it's good advice, not least of all to simply be that positive person! :)

Very helpful and inspiring book to all of us trainee teachers! Provides ideas and information all about the interviews right up to the a start of your 2nd year of teaching. This book takes you through all the worries, problems and good points you might have during these times. I really recommend it to all trainee teachers about to apply for jobs or start their NQT year!
