Akallian Tales #2

Games of Astraeus

Rate this book
Past lives and a mastery of time aren't reserved for a select few. The Astraeans find this out the hard way in the second book of the Akallian Tales, Games of Astraeus.
The events in book one force the Astraeans to step back and reconsider all they have ever known, when their purpose in the multiverse is not only called into question, but threatened. Their understandings of relationships are redefined, as some falter, while others are strengthened. Burdening the Astraeans as well, is the struggle to remain relevant and capable when their tools and equipment are rendered inadequate and antiquated.
The outcome of whether or not they will rise to the challenge is unknown, but the question of whether or not they will try, is not. They will seek to learn about their new and mysterious adversary, and apply that knowledge in their uniquely Astraean way. They will not be threatened or attacked into submission. They will respond and answer those who threaten the noble and worthwhile notion of goodness.
Follow the Astraeans through space, time, love, marriage, and galactic combat, to see how they answer the perils forced upon them by ancient hate and calculation.

Mamdod left the ribbon island.
Daebaugh is preparing an all-out war on the Astraeans.
The Trio is still reeling from the attack on the Harbor.

The Sequel to Souls of Astraeus jumps right back into the story, namely the aftermath of the attack. From there it follows our heroes as they deal with the implications of Daebaugh's treason.

I especially liked Lannya in this book. While she was just a minor character in the first book, she plays a much bigger role in this one. We also get to know more about the Trio, who are the main players in this instalment of the story.

One of the coolest things was getting to visit a few more planets and civilisations in the multiverse, which is always colourful, interesting and original.
