Undraland #5

The Other Side

Rate this book
With the joy of leaving Undraland behind, the anticipation of returning back to the Other Side, where Lucy is most familiar, has everyone in high spirits. Soon she realizes that there will be no white picket fence, no home, and no life until the final portal to the Land of Be is destroyed. Pesta uses every tool at her disposal to claw at Lucy, stopping at nothing to take down the one girl who’s managed to escape her clutches time and time again.
Lucy Kincaid sheds her pacifist ideals once and for all as she fights for the people she loves, destroying the remnants of hope for a happy future in the process.

I have read and written reviews for the whole undraland series. They have to be read in order or you won't have any idea what's happening. That being said I absolutely Loved it.....
I am Hoping that anyone reading this review understands what I'm talking about because they have read the previous books :)

A lot happens in this story and while some questions are answered more are brought up as seems to be common in a series. This is the last book in part one of the series.
Jens as usual will drive you somewhat crazy as he tries to adjust and be the man he thinks is deserving of Lucy. He is a bit frustrating but certainly makes up for lot of it in this book, but not until after throwing some childish fits. He Is getting there albeit slowly.
I may spoil this for some but I was so happy I can't resist mentioning that Foss comes back!! I really did miss him crazy jerk that he is and all.As much as she had to prove she could leave him it just wasn't the same without him. In a way she seems to gain strength from his comfort, and she gains stability and confidence from his strength and I think that's ok. I think he is finally becoming the man she wants him to be...Wow he is so much better in this book, partly because he's completely out of his element being on the other side now, and man when he shows up he is under a huldra spell that will have you laughing out loud!!
As per usual nothing goes as planned or is easy and as the gang continue on their way to try to destroy the human portal. Petra puts Lucy through hell pushing her past her limits. What Lucy must endure is harsh and it's amazing she is sane at all by the end. Lucy is so incredibly strong in so many ways.
I'm still upset that she doesn't know who mace is and I'm Hoping down the road a huldra will reverse the spell so she can remember how amazing he is. So much happens and I can't talk about all of it but suffice it to say Lucy kicks some serious Booty and finally gets everything she wants there are just some unexpected twists and turns along the way.
Jamie and Britta are lovely and fun I always love visiting with them. Finally they don't have to hide their love because they aren't in undraland anymore yay!
For me this was a very emotional book it's very intense and I shed quite a few tears so have a tissue box handy.
I can't wait to see what else is in store for all of them

“My family was a beautiful thing. We were odd, had strange senses of humor and never had a home to return to, but we had each other. Finally, we were together again. I didn’t even mind that Charles Mace was in there. It was almost like we had a friend to share our jokes with.”

I really wish Lucy would just leave Jens and go back to her husband. Jens just keeps disappointing and Foss is complicated and romantic and he and Lucy compliment each other and fit so perfectly together without all the forced levity that she has with Jens.

Lola Kyle Reviews:::: Before I continue on, let us all take a moment to give respects to all the lives lost in this battle for good. For Niklaus, Tor, Henry Mancini, Harold, Thomas Jefferson (yes we will mourn the loss of the Chiroc), Charles Mace and Alrik. photo R6O6KvS_zpsblvcfzwu.gif
Though this book has been a bit slower paced than the others, I had to take my time to savor these last moments of chaos. The remaining misfits Journey on to the other side leaving our favorite Fossegrim behind in Undraland. Much to the chagrin of all those who were rooting for Team Fussy. (A small part of me relished in the sordid affair, so I shipped them)
photo giphy_zps9alyfwf1.gif Jaime and Britta unaccustomed to the new world relish at all the marvels that is the other side. Not holding unto the small sense of false security they journey on to finding a safe place to lay their heads and find Pesta's last remaining portal.
Like a series of unfortunate events, Tragedy strikes once more in the form of false reunions, damaged bones and huldras.(Well maybe not huldras but you're catching on.) photo GASP_zpsyby2kzkk.gif
Nothing is impossible with this group. As their journey to the final battle wears on the team is finally successful. The slower pace of this book, did not withhold the adventure and plot twist that we have come to expect from our dear author. Packed with Jaw dropping moments, in addition to holding your breath and being perched at the end of your seat.
photo Kronks-Mission-Accomplished-Reaction-Gif_zpsyydyvdus.gif Mary E. Twomey delivers an excellent blow, crafting this end of a battle we have all come to hate; leaving us awestruck and cheering somewhat morosely with characters we've come to relate to. Giving us grief, laughter and even growth. Like a tattoo embedded in our hearts. We will never forget this journey through Undraland. Three cheers for Mary E. Twomey and 5 stars for The Other Side.

I guess I should have assumed this is how it would end, but ewww. fuck. no thanks.

I hate Jens. he's pathetic and ridiculous. ick.

Lucy is pretty great. Jamie and britta are sweet and polite, strong and gentle. both could have been more...

Foss was the best character. the most back story. the best back story. the most growth. in the end, the most reliable and loving.

so many personalities and smidges of more, never realized. more character than world, more inner dialogue than character development, more emotional breakdowns than revelations.

but still enthralling. heart wrenching but wonderful.

Started off slow and uneventful for the most part but oh boy, when it picked up It Picked Up. *chefs kiss*
Though there was an unanswered thing of who was the huldra that hypnotised the psychologist that turned Tonya to the land of Be?
I’m sure there was another thing that went unanswered but I can’t remember it right now.. and now the souls in Be are at rest, what does that mean? What is it now she’s human, 2 types of elvish and some siren? Does she now have power? Is her blood really glitter? Surely not but we don’t know..
I’m still holding out hope that her and foss will get together.. I’m not even completely sure why. I’ve never really been too fussed about Yennifer but I know it’s not just my indifference regarding him, it’s almost like something’s off. Cause he always is. Off I mean.
On the other end of it all, with Alrik gone and Charles dead, what’s happened with Alriks house? Property? However many he owned and what about the people that worked for him? Surely word’s gotten out that he’s dead..

On to the Blood Novels!

The first four books of the Undraland Books were charming and the fifth was as well! The cast of characters and world that Twomey has built for them are enchanting even through the times that I loved to hate them. The balance between plot elements was perfect. I truly enjoyed the humor found in the dialog as well as the first person narrative of the main character. These stories are suitable for teens, (no graphic violence or detailed sexual encounters.) I look forward to reading the next series of books set in the same universe.

Awesome

I read the five novels in the series. I couldn't put it down. It is full of fantasy with a light and dark side. Lucy is captured to a world she did not exist. The goal to go across the Undraland to save humans from a wicked siren. It is full of excitement with many escapades to keep you enthralled through all five books.

Even as she is out of Undraland, Pesta is still after her. Lucy is going to have to start striking first if she ever wants to make it out of this alive.

They need to make this series into a movie! This book made me cry several times, especially the ending.
