“She always said that if she could come back to haunt me, she would.”
John Myers is a popular and successful novelist, but memories of his troubled childhood still haunt him. When his childhood home comes onto the market, he snaps it up and goes back, determined to find out whether the place is really haunted, or whether he simply imagined the events of twenty years ago.
Soon, John finds his entire existence starting to fall apart, and he's forced to question some of his most basic assumptions. Did his grandmother's ghost really haunt him when he was younger, and if so, is she still around? After his wife and children join him unexpectedly at the house, John is forced to face the horrific truth, as it becomes clear that the events that happened twenty years ago were far more awful than he remembers.
Meanwhile, those events are also leaking into the present day, and the dark forces within the house aren't finished with their plans. Just when it seems as if John and his family will be consumed by those forces, however, a mysterious girl named Hannah turns up, and it's immediately clear that she knows more than she's letting on.
The House on Everley Street is the second book in the Death Herself series, about a dark figure who arrives in the night, promising to help deal with the forces of evil whenever they appear.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
This was one of the author's best books. It really had me hooked all the way through. It was a ghost story and a psychological thriller in one book. It had a few repetitions that I noticed, but not enough to bother me that much.
But like all of her books, she needs to edit her work. I found it very distracting to be reading along and enjoying the story when all of a sudden, Bam! there's a typo or a word left out or misspelled. If there were just one or two, I would forget about it, but they're sprinkled throughout her books. I don't think this one had as many as some of the others I've read, but it very much takes my attention away from the story. And her books otherwise are very good.
I would have given five stars if it weren't for that fact.
The second in the series of the (Death Herself) by Amy Cross was just as great as the first. A few minor missed editing errors, but the writing and creativity are first rate! This time there is a Author's family in danger as events are played out between the present and twenty years past. With plot twists galore, that even kept my head spinning, this a great read! Highly recommend.
I know that this book has had some rave reviews but, I'm afraid, I just didn't enjoy it. I felt it was so far fetched as to be ridiculous. The plot just didn't hang together and the characters were all one dimensional. I've read some excellent books by Amy Cross but this was nowhere near that standard.
Well what can I say apart from what a great second novel of the Death herself series!! I could not put it down, Hannah the heroine of the books is so strong and mysterious but also gets to be just an ordinary girl living in the real world! So I'm going into number 3 now of the series can't wait 😊😊👑
Easy to settle into the storyline, and the plot was great. As always Amy Cross did an amazing job. Sometimes it is hard to keep interesting plots during a series but this one was great really enjoyed it. Now on to the next one.
excited to read the 3rd book. So far this series has been one of my favorite ghost/horror story. Books that make me anxious to find out what happens to the characters. Amy Cross does a great job getting you to root for the characters.
Loved this one Amy as much as the 1st. It was atmospheric and downright spooky. Great to see Hannah in it when she is needed to fight the ghostly demons. I will be downloading the next one. Great job Amy📕👍
Famous author, raised by his sadistic Grandmother, has a psychotic break. One part of him, is normal. The other part, does things the normal part is not aware of. Very interesting.
Aside from several spelling errors due to self publication, I found this one of Amy's to go into my top 10 of her books. Fast paced, great storyline...loved it!
The House on Everley Street (Death Herself Book 2)
Death is alive , and can be found in the THE HOUSE ON EVERLEY STREET. John is a quiet , withdrawn man of great talent and is a successful author of many book about HORROR. He knows a lot about HORROR as he was raised by an evil grandma who subjected him to all kinds of horrors. Now an adult with a family of his own he has returned to his old hometown and is drawn back by the evils of his past. Now all he is trying to do is understand and SURVIVE those evils and hopefully escape them. But first he has to meet them head on. This is a GRIPPING, THRILLING STORY that will leave you believing in ghosts. I RECOMMEND...ENJOY!
The second in the series, this time concerning a house and strange happenings.
It's difficult to say much because I don't give spoilers, so all I will say is that this story is perfect for the horror genre, though more from a psychological standpoint, which is always more intriguing. That's not to say there weren't gruesome scenes, but twists of the mind make for a compelling read.
Overall, a fast-paced, mysterious and suspenseful read - loved it.
!!!!! O.M.G. ..... I'm not sure what to say about this book. It was kinda gross. The ending was totally unexpected... Just read it. Hopefully you won't be disappointed. :D
