No one meets their soul mate when they're seventeen, right? But what if the impossible happens and you do? What if they then leave you to become a famous rock star?
Completely impossible...
Except for seventeen-year-old Indi this is all too real; her life-long best friend, Joel, becomes her first love after years of longing for him. Everything is perfect, more than she had ever dared to hope.
Then at a gig, Joel's band gets picked up by a record label and she's left behind in her dead-end home town with no one to turn to and a secret to keep.
Now in her early twenties, Joel's departure still hurts, and her life comes crashing down around her with the news that he and the band, The Riots, are coming to town...
I began writing as a hobby when I was still at school. Always very shy I never let a soul read any of my stories and sadly I have lost all of my note books and discs from back then so I can't salvage any of my young self's work!
In Autumn of 2012 I began thinking about a book which I tried to dismiss - after all it had been around a decade since I'd last allowed myself write anything. But this idea would not go away and so Danny Boy was born.
Apprehensively, I gave a copy to my parents to read - they were so encouraging that I found a way to publish it and got some lovely reviews. Since then I have published a further three short stories and am currently working on two new stories as well as editing my first paperback!
If you love to write then go ahead and write away; don't tell yourself it's silly or no good. I'm glad I stopped listening to my inner pessimist!
In Riot Girl, you journey into the heart of a teenage girl named, Indy, who is raised in a crappy home, but has some good friends that has been family to her. You dive right into her obsession with one of her best friends, Joel, and the emotions start flying! What I liked: I found Riot Girl to be a different type of book. The characters to me felt passionate, real, and full of heart-wrenching emotions. If you expect an average "romance" story you'll be scratching your head, because Riot Girl will take you on different twists. I loved how inside the heart of Indy she always knew deep down what she wanted. You can't squish passion, you can't ignore it, and despite everything love and passion will shine through. What I didn't like: Honestly, I don't think there was anything I didn't like. It is a short book, so expect that, but I actually enjoy short, fast-paced novels that leave me feeling satisfied.
This was a fast read, it definitely kept my interest but as we went through the first section of the book, I realized that I was in no way going to get a good story out of all the this as the book was almost done! There could have been so much more to this story. And the chapters just changed without any indicator. It was a bittersweet story for Indi and Jacob and Joel.
Blah. This book had so much potential story wise, but really there was absolutely no romance and the final ending was so rushed and abrupt, it was like half of the book was missing.
For starters in terms of a quick read I cant say it was awful or even that it lost my interest. Its just that if by any chance that someone did find themselves in the situation that Indi did it is a completely logical and smart way to go about the situation if we are talking reality. However this is a story, so i wanted to be taken away from reality show the situation of a young girl who was dealt a bad hand and show the hero who was in love with her to go to no ends to show it. In this story i really couldn't see any hero and the heroine who i was expecting to have a little spark was as bland as anything.
Indi the heroine dealt with a very life changing experience that the author could have used as a good way to connect the heroine and the readers by showing how she felt and gone into depth by giving the heroine more emotion or spark as the beginning of the book promised of her. At a certain part of the book the was there was a situation where the characters could have shown devastation and grief but instead brushed over the death as if it was an everyday occurrence.
So like i said the story only really showed a situation that which had that set up for a very interesting plot and storyline resulting in an in-depth book but was presented a reality version with little emotion, little depth, and little anything to hold my interest.
My review is not all criticism as i said the book had a lot of potential with the plot. The story didnt lose my interest and finished the book in a couple of hours which is saying a lot as i have got an attention span of a fish. The characters could have had a very tight knit relationship amongst the four of them which given there past you would have thought would have been easy to portray but was overlooked much like a lot of thing in this book.

I am very open-minded about books, I love them. I've read all sorts. If it holds my interest than ill read it. This book just wasn't as good as I'd hoped.
