Hearing things, that’s what she thinks is happening. Not her deceased husband, of course. But someone else is there. Why isn’t she frightened at the prospect? Is she really that lonely?Gladys Hight lives in a cozy little house in southeastern Wisconsin. Occasionally, her visiting family has heard her speaking with Harry, her husband, who died four years ago. Her daughter, Patty, the type-A opposite of Gladys, obviously worries about her mother’s sanity. At seventy-eight, even Gladys has her doubts. When she assumes she’s alone in the house one Sunday, a stranger suddenly appears and begins talking to her as if he has known her forever. Despite discovering an unexpected man in her house, Gladys is not frightened, though she does wonder anew if she’s losing her marbles.Complicating her self-doubt is the fact that the man smiling at her in her hallway looks just as she imagines Jesus would look. But she discovers that no one else can see him or hear him as she can.In the days and weeks that follow, Gladys’s visitor convinces her he is real, and he is Jesus. More than that, he shows her how much he loves her, as he squires her through her formerly lonely days and accompanies her in facing disappointments and disasters from her past. Not only does Gladys receive emotional healing, she also serves as Jesus’s messenger for people around her, both family and strangers. Though she had never wished for such a rare experience, nor even imagined such a thing possible, nothing in all her life impacts Gladys more profoundly than actually seeing and hearing Jesus. The second book in the Seeing Jesus series, Hearing Jesus explores the boundaries of belief and imagination, while revealing the limitless grace and love of Jesus.
As a small boy in Lincoln, Nebraska, I listened enrapt to my grandmother reading me children’s stories, such as The Little Engine That Could. I also recall the elementary school librarian who read us Winnie the Pooh, imitating all the voices. And I remember the first summer I was allowed to ride my bike to the library on my own.
Writing started for me in school. Teachers encouraged me to pursue what they perceived as a gift. For me, my imagination was a challenge as much as a gift. I found the real world so much less enthralling.
In my Christian high school, the English teacher supplied me with unassigned novels. I wrote the senior class play and served as editor of both the yearbook and the school newspaper.
At Houghton College, I majored in writing, including coursework in poetry and fiction. But I also majored in biblical studies and was persuaded to take my writing skills in a more “respectable” direction—academia and nonfiction writing. Remember that less enthralling real world?
When all my academic work led to no great employment breakthrough, I hopped from there onto that rapid conveyor known as the tech industry. Starting in the 1990s, I shaped a new career, eventually starting my own computer consulting firm.
During those years, I focused on raising two boys and cherished the role of doing the bedtime reading, including attempting all the voices in The Chronicles of Narnia series. I also composed a few stories from scratch for my attentive little audience, usually around a campfire.
I started writing again in 2006. Following a friend’s suggestion, I meditated on scripture by imaging myself present on a day when Jesus healed an entire multitude. That meditation turned into my first novel, And He Healed Them All. Closing the gap between the sparse descriptions in the Gospels and what must have been a rich miraculous experience enticed me.
A series of unusual events (ask me someday) prodded me to write my second novel, The Reign: Out of Tribulation. I began self-publishing with those first two books. My third novel, Seeing Jesus, expanded into a series when numerous readers begged me for more. As it turns out, that kind of begging is hard to resist.
In all, I have published fifteen books on Amazon, fourteen of them as installments in one of my series. I am constantly working to improve my skills and to better share my message with the reading public.
Anyone tracking my address could guess that I’ve had some setbacks in my life. But God has stayed the same, even as I evolve and have to start over again.
Now I am married and living in Vernon Hills, Illinois, attending a vibrant church and meeting new people. I work part-time on my computer consulting business, and I devote much of the rest of my time to writing and marketing my books, with my wife as my highly motivated marketing director.
I had no idea that Mr. McClain Jones wrote these wonderful books. Thank you sir so much.
It was the Holy Spirit who drew me to these books. I read "Finding Jesus " first. I found myself wishing it wouldn't be over. My heart was so full of hope and Joy. In "Hearing Jesus" I found several things I identified with. Having been a bible teacher for many years I loved to teach how God never leaves us or forsaken . I believe that and it became so reassuring and full of hope. Mr. Jones shows how real Jesus is and how close we can be to Him. I will read this series because I find that there is truth in His telling us He will never be separated from Him and He is always there to help us know what to do and how to do it. He who lives in is The Holy Spirit, the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the grave.
I first read Seeing Jesus about 4 or 5 years ago. Then I decided to re-read it this week. I have discovered that he had written four more books. So I read Hearing Jesus. Since reading the first book and then reading the second book, I found I could identify with easier since I am an older woman not quite as old as Gladys. Both books were thoroughly enjoy able and I'm looking forward to reading the third one
This is another story of where someone has an unsuspecting encounter with Jesus. This time it involves hearing Jesus, and the encouragement and inspiration he provides. This is a wonderful account of how the presence of Jesus led the main character, Gladys, to impact many people, including her own family. This story displays how Jesus is able to bring about circumstances that lead to renewal and restoration of memories, and even relationships with family and friends that have been broken. I enjoyed reading in the last couple of chapters the meeting between Gladys and Philly, the main character from book 1 of the series. It is amazing how these 2 people were brought together, and how Gladys was able to bless Philly, and begin a revival process for him.
It was time for me to read this book.. I was so wounded, so disappointed in my spirit because I felt so alone, but still trying to keep up appearances that all was well. I had become dull of hearing Jesus in my spirit most of the time, and to be honest it was that when I would hear, it was always about ministering to others, and I would think to myself, "What about me?" While reading this book I have been so encouraged, and gotten clear insight about a few questions I had regarding other Believers. Thank you so, so much for your creative imagination, and may God continue to use you through the gift of writing. I have already recommended this book to many others.
Awesome read! This is my 3rd book by Jeffry McClain Jones and really enjoying them. I strongly recommend any of his books because the character's experiences are inspiring and I've been able to imagine what is going in the stories. "Hearing Jesus" brought tears to my eyes, as did the first book. Just them talking of Jesus' presence had me feeling His presence while reading the story. Yes, it is fiction but based how Jesus is described in the bible in dealing with people. In this story he didn't raise a dead person but he did heal and deliver through the touch of the believer. Starting book 3 of this series and looking forward to see how Jesus interacts in various issues in life.
What a beautiful book. This book inspired me to want to live more with Jesus as part of my daily, every moment life. This is really possible because I have lived it for many years but have neglected my best friend because of the busyness of life and all it’s distractions. This book was a gentle reminder of what Jesus is willing to do through us and with us when we open ourselves to Him completely. I loved the beautiful nature and way Jesus was depicted in this novel.
I read "Hearing Jesus" immediately after completing "Seeing Jesus." In both books, Each character became more believable and understandable as the "pages" of my Kindle app "turned." I want very much to believe that Jesus IS as portrayed in these books. I will continue the series and have already called my siblings and recommended the read the series.
I wasn’t over the top about this book , but I did marvel at what it would be like to have Jesus all to our self like the story! To know his complete love and compassion for us personally and for it to be tangible would be the greatest gif ever to experience that , can’t even wrap my mind around but what a glorious thing it would be!
I loved this story, as I have each book in this series. Gladys Hights, seventy-eight-years-old, alone and lonely. One Sunday, Jesus speaks to her and changes her life. Her daughter, Patty, the type-A opposite of Gladys, worries about her mother. This is a type of book, I never wanted to end. But since there are several more books in this series, I'll move on to the next one. Five-stars.
This book is for anyone to read, but especially anyone who doesn’t know that God loves you and wants to assure you He is always there for you. I felt as if I were right beside Gladys as she was listening to Jesus and following through on His instructions. Amazing book.
I enjoyed this book. Especially the end. Even those who are with God and have Jesus by their side gets discouraged and slide too and with a nudge can pick themselves up. Life is good.
Favorite quote: Talking out loud when you’re home alone isn’t nearly so crazy if you know there’s someone there who hears you at least as clearly as you’re learning to hear him.
Hearing Jesus is book 2 in the Seeing Jesus series. I loved both books! As a Christian I could certainly see where I fall short. These books are encouraging. entertaining, faith building, and so much more. Open your heat, soul spirit and mind as you see and hear Jesus! Read the series!
This author is fantastic at writing very descriptive chapters that bring characters to life. I feel as though they are living across the street from me. Jesus is made very real and relatable in these books. I plan on reading another in the series since they are interesting and easy to read. I recommend trying this series if you want to see a side of Jesus available to us all.
This book was amazing to me! It was funny and gave me a glympse of what I hope Jesus is really like...so human but so God. I want my relationship with Jesus to be this real.
I enjoyed the storyline, the warmth, the wit and the message. The humor was great. Sad to say, the family situations were all too real. It was a wonderful, uplifting story. Thanks for writing it.
This book has touched my heart. It made me feel as if i was Gladys at times and God was speaking to me. I didnt want to put the book down. I recommend this book to be read by all. Used as a book club read or even a sunday school class.
Gladys finds herself talking to Harry her late husband and realizes it. Then she hears noises and thinks maybe Harry has come to "visit". When Gladys discovers that it is Jesus she is surprised. Jesus and Gladys have wonderful adventures. A wonderful story.
Again Mr. Jones has written an amazing story all of us who love Jesus would like to have happen to us. The incredible joy of his presence does fill us with so much love that it is impossible to describe. Mr. Jones succeeds admirably. BRAVO!
This was an awesome book about Jesus physically appearing to a 78 year old woman. It is so beautiful how he interacted with her and changed her life. The ending makes it tie together with the first book in this series.
This book is so refreshing. Mr. Jeffrey Jones really understand people and has a wonderful way of conveying their response to Jesus meeting them in their very ordinary day-to-day life. It’s such a precious story.
This book made me feel like Jesus was with me deeper than I could have imagined. Loved the book. Take a chance read this book and you will smile and laugh along with Gladys and Jesus.
Jeffrey McClain Jones has knocked another one out of the park. Simple yet engaging and a lot deeper than you think. I am looking forward to starting the next book in the series...immediately !
There is so much we can learn from your stories ! It's really great to be reading and say wow that's awesome and apply it to my life . I highly recommend any of these books.
A nice story. A well written easy read. While the idea of Jesus's eating breakfast with you might be hard to swallow, it does spark the desire to hear his voice more regularly and clearly. Looking forward to reading book 3.
This was a very enjoyable read. Gladys is like so many Christians I know. The story of her uncertainty about this new relationship with Jesus is believable. Although the story is fiction, it blessed my heart.
The author has done it again! Challenged and grown my walk with Christ. And this is a fiction book! I have to give myself time in between books to really chew on what I have learned. But learned I did!
Everyone struggles with faith at one time or another but what a wonderful story to remind us that Jesus never leaves us, we just have to listen with our hearts and not our ears.
