Welcome to this ramble through music: background notes unfold, little by little, amazingly and touchingly. Our guide is the young Jacopo Caneva, who puts forward a personal selection of musical extracts for a first listening experience, analysing them with the passion and competence of a teenager who loves and practises music. This is where authors meet, with different styles and historical backgrounds, sharing the will to be revolutionary and ahead of their time.
A journey that winds from Mussorgsky to Berlioz, from Debussy to Handel, Danny Elfman and Joe Hisaishi, some of the most beloved composers of two great film directors of our time, Tim Burton and Hayao Miyazaki. 10 Pieces of Music You Should Listen to at Least Once in Your Life is a book you will take with you as an essay on music. Enjoy the read and the listen.
Enthusiastic, if Naive, First Look at Classical Music
Perhaps a useful starter for people who have never encountered classical music, but people who know the field may have difficulty understanding how some of these pieces were chosen. His rankings of some of these composers comes across as rather naive for a musician who actually plays in an orchestra.
As dez sugestões de trabalhos musicais que são citadas nesse texto são nada menos que excelentes. Fiz questão de colocar as músicas pra ouvir enquanto li.
This is a very personal list. Although I dont agree with everything in the list, that is not a problem to me, being the author personal list. But I feel the book fails in explaining why this music is any good and relevant to be included in the list. While some explanations are amazing, most of them are just a combination of facts missing a narrative or engaging the reader.
