Mild Spoilers Ahead!

The story kicks off with Allie stealing into Quinn's mansion, her former home, to steal back something that belongs to her. She does it in the guise of Freida, Quinn's head maid and her good friend. But unbeknownst to Allie, Frieda tipped off Quinn about her plan to break into the mansion.

Quinn lets her get inside so that he could finally have the conversation that he has been dying to have with her. He doesn't trust Allie's fierce temper, so he sets out special roses, his own invention, that taps into Allie's arousal. Would Allie listen to him or would she just get even mad at him for deceiving her with the aphrodisiac roses?

I must admit that I didn't like either Allie or Quinn in the beginning - Allie appeared crass and Quinn, too cocky (he's the whole grr... you're mine, alpha male; not my cup o' tea) Their regrets or worries didn't pull me in. It might be because I got to see both their points of view throughout the story and I just wanted to kick both of them up their bottom and make them see sense. As the story progressed, their lives took on further dimension and depth, making the choices they made in the past make sense.

The crux of Scarlett Knight's story is love, love as a drug. Everyone reacts differently to it - Allie needs a constant dose to keep her sane but Quinn's fine with just the possibility that he could have it any time he wanted. Therein started the problem. When subtle hints didn't reach across, Allie went radical and sued for divorce. Not because she didn't love him but because he didn't seem to love her back enough. A reminder of how much addicting Love could be.

I loved the end for the obvious reason ;) and also because both Allie and Quinn learn a little bit more about themselves and each other.

Reads & Reels is lucky to review not one, but two books from Scarlett Knight, author of straight and LGBT erotic romance, paranormal, science fiction and contemporary romance and fiction. (Talented and busy!)

This week, I’m going to review her erotic sci-fi short, Pleasure Before Business. This saucy little number will get you hot and bothered but it also happens to be very well written. Yes you can have both.

The Story

Allie risks getting arrested as she sneaks onto millionaire inventor Quinn Buchanan’s estate to take back an item that rightfully belongs to her. She doesn’t realize that someone has tipped Quinn off to her plans, and he has a few plans of his own. The two of them have a history that must be addressed, whether Allie is ready to or not.

My Thoughts

Wow! Hot with a capital ‘H’, but not only that, it’s fun and creative. Taking place in a futuristic setting, Scarlett adds fantastic details to the story that makes it more than just a sexy story. I would hate to give anything away but pay attention to the setting, costumes and background information. It all adds an interesting dimension to this erotic tale.

Though short (22pgs), I really enjoyed it. Pleasure Before Business is toe curling, entertaining and fun. One thing that I feel worth mentioning, is the unexpected theme… Love. Yes take away the intensity, passion and sex, it is a love story. Very nice surprise.

Read it alone or aloud with a partner. You will love it!

Rating… A

First off…. I love the cover.

Now for my review.

~Spoilers may lay ahead~

There is a quiet elegance to this story that shouldn’t be missed.

The futuristic setting was a joy for me as a nerd. I really couldn’t get enough. The elevator sequence at the beginning, the faux waterfall that acts as a shower and virtual bedrooms, was all fantastic. The author really has an eye for that stuff.

The inclusion of star travel in the story really gave it an added dimension. Solidified the futuristic setting which I thought was a nice touch.

While reading this story I wanted Quinn and Allie to get back together. Suck it, I’m an occasional romantic. ;) Did they get back together? I won’t tell you. Spoilers sweetie. I don’t do them.

I usually don’t like waiting for the sex scene. I prefer that the characters fluck like rabbits throughout the book. But I didn’t mind it this time around because the author got me to care about Quinn and Allie, had me enjoying the futuristic setting so much that I was pleasantly distracted.

As far as the sex scene…. WOW. HOLY. S***. Not only was it hot enough to melt the universe and send us all into nothingness, but it was romantic as well. Usually, as I’m an occasional romantic, I’m like, ‘fluck romance, show me some anal,’ but this time around I quite liked the added romance. Which is why I didn’t mind Quinn cumming inside Allie at the end. Usually that pi$$es me off. Yes, I know, I’m filthy. Don’t you love it. ;)

All in all… 5 out of 5 purrrrrs
