They call him Trick. Take off the T and add a P, and that’s what I call him.
Patrick Archer made my life hell in high school, but that’s all over and done with now. I’ve tried not to think about him since I graduated a year ago, because if I did, all I’d be able to think of is punching him right in his stupid face. His sexy, perfect face. Dammit, even after everything he did, I still can’t deny how hot he is, and it’s impossible to stop myself from picturing him in my dreams night after night…
Because there’s no justice in the world, Patrick is a famous actor now, and his Mom is married to my studio executive Dad….making him my evil stepbrother. My Dad wants us all to act like a proper family and spend more time together, and as such, he’s hired me to spend time with Patrick and clean up his bad-boy media image.
So now I’m stuck hanging around Patrick all the time, and he’s barely making any effort to make my life or job any easier. Even when he’s nice, I can’t help but think he has an ulterior motive.
After all, how much can you really trust a guy named Trick?
**Warning: This book contains lots of HOT sex, drama, adult language and some violence. If this is not the kind of stuff you like to read, skip this book. Enjoy!**
Caitlin Daire writes about sexy men and the smart, curvy women who love them. She has found her own happily-ever-after ending with her husband and two kids.
What happen when you realize that your soon-to-be-step-sister is the girl you took virginty not long ago?!
Patrick is the BAD BOY in every teenage fanatasy! Blond, cocky, gorgeous..
But he is Lucy's nightmare ! After having a one day of bliss in highschool, now they are at war! He was the boy who torment her and she was the shy her with no friends!
Now the things are different because Lucy is hired to be his PR and clean his image of Always-partying-playboy and help him to be a better man!
They never stop feel connected to each other, no matter the hate, no matter the memories, their connection will always be there ! And after one night of lust they cannot stop inevitable.. they came inseparable !
I liked the development of the characters. Their reasons of behavior and how they handle the things life bought to them. How they grow up and start to fight for their dreams! How they supported each other even the way how they mocked each other was cute ! They wanted to be together and forget about the bad memories!
I loved how passionate their were with each other! The steamy scenes were hot and lusty ..
But beside their own growth there were so many other things too, things you wouldn't expect to happen! Some really good life tips and this book book show you that it's not so glamorous and fantastic to be a star, to be followed everywhere and pictured with everyone. Also it shows you that you need to value your family, to be together as much as possible and just appreciate what you've got!
Damn! From all the non-stop flirting & teasing to the action-packed plot, i loved it! :) i fell in love with the characters almost instantly. It was simple, sweet and a hella lot of fun to read. Patrick was hot, and always saving everybody. The rape scene was intense as f#%k! I gasped out loud reading it. And the story never got boring for me, if anything it kept getting more dramatic and funnier as i read on. I love books that bring out a series of emotions and this book accomplished that. :) 5 f#%-me-&-save-me-stars! ***** ps: i loved the ending!
Didnt complete this cos after reading some nicer ones by Caitlin (Dangerous, Crush) I didnt feel Patrick was a hero-type person nor was Lucy a very interesting hero.
The problem is what Patrick did to Lucy was really shitty and it didnt seem to matter to either of them or to the plot. Not only did he screw with her while they were both in school- basically sleeping with her after she helped him out with his studies by taking advantage of her innocence and taking her V card and then next day, publicly disclaiming her and going back to his Ex, he didnt even have the common decency to at least apologize for his stupid actions for the whole time they were in school. He just watched in sidelines while the whole school ( quite a huge bit of exaggeration!) bullied Lucy and called her slut. It didnt count that he tried in some small ways to counter it.
The whole reasoning he gave - that he was afraid to lose his popularity and associate with a nerd like Lucy - is understandable. What is not understandable - and this makes the whole novel a gag-fest? 1. His decision to not even privately apologize to her for the entire time shit happened to her. If you felt bad for what you did and couldnt publicly say sorry or acknowledge what you did, you could have at least send a note in private to show a bit of humanity to the girl you slept with. After she helped you out too!
2. Patrick meets Lucy again and decides he'd rather be an ass-hole and make her hate him even more cos he 'didnt deserve her forgiveness'. Wow, what a shitty reason to be nasty!
3. Lucy's easy forgiveness for what shit he pulled in school and later - all cos he is sooooo hottttt. So what? If a hot guy slept with you, basically threw you out to wolves the next day without even a 'Thank you Mam' and then continued to bully you later, its okay to forgive it all cos he is a prime person 2 fck? What kinda stupid seriously-lacking-in-self-esteem person does that?
Thats what is the biggest turn off for this novel. Patrick doesnt deserve forgiveness when it was given so easily to him. That makes both the hero and heroine shitty characters.
This is the first time I have read anything written by Caitlin Daire. I really like the story line so I give that 4 stars. But for me that storyline was somewhat stop and roll, stop and roll. I like more descriptive wording in telling a good story along with more punch in the suspense of who was stalking Patrick. This moved it to a overall 3.5 star rating. It was really nice that Patrick was not quite the douche bag I thought he was going to be, so YEA! Lucy and Patrick deserve to be happy so I'm happy for them.
I will definitely read more books by Caitlin Daire. This is on the Kindle Unlimited reading list so if you have a Amazon Kindle Unlimited account it is worth reading. So thumbs up Caitlin Daire I will add you to my author list of those I like.
Usually I just read these books as a filler, like for during busy times I just don't have to get invested in anything heavy. But man, I did not see that coming! I really don't understand the whole taboo thing of them being step siblings. They didn't grow up together, they didn't take baths together as little kids, nothing! If anything it's the parents that's in the wrong. The only other thing was when she took pain pills! I don't know why anyone thinks when you take pain pills they make you act drunk! They do make some people more hyped up but not drunk! Oh well it is what it is. Definitely worth the read only because of the major blindside otherwise it would have been just ok.
This book was much better than I thought. I can usually predict certain plot twists in books because they are predictable, but this one took me totally by surprise. It was a pretty well written book, some words left out here and there, but not enough to make a big difference. I also like how you were not left hanging with any of the characters. Would definitely recommend and read author again.
He made her life miserable in High School even though he had a crush on her. His reputation and popularity were more important at the time. She was the daughter of a studio executive who eventually married his mother. He was an up and coming actor who was considered a bad boy and she was the nerdy girl. Stalkers and abusive boyfriends and misunderstandings couldn't keep them apart, it took a long time to get their happy ending but they got there.
After some poor choices made in high school, Patrick and Lucy were once again thrown back together once their parents married and after Lucy moved back into her fathers house to watch over her stepbrother. Once Lucy realizes Patrick is truly sorry for the choices he made in high school, she is able to admit her true feelings for him. Patrick of course shows her time and time again his true feeling for her. Very sweet story.
Holy smokes this book was absolutely amazing and I absolutely love the storyline and it flowed from the beginning until the end.this is one book I absolutely fell in love with.
It was cute. The whole thing with Lucy’s dad at the end was a bit abrupt and resolved quickly, so I’m not sure it was really needed? But other than that it was hot and a cute read.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First impression So this book was more than just a short interlude between other ‘real’ books. Because I was expecting this really short and simple and not really developed book. But it really was very mature. There wasn’t just sex in it, everything had a meaning, nothing was just written for the sake of it. I liked it.
Character development Patrick: I this kind of asshole that loves Lucy, but he is too big of a dickhead to tell her how he really feels. That’s why he’s always acting like a douche just so that she would start hating him even more. It’s kind of working until it’s not… Lucy: needed to grow up a bit since high school, but she doesn’t have it going for her, boyfriend or job wise. She kind of needs her dad to survive. Everything is going great until she hears what her dad wants her to do. Could she really do it?
Title: I didn’t think that the title was really fitting. I was expecting just another stepbrother romance, but this book was more than this. This simple made it seem that this book was simple. It was easy to read, but not simple at all.
Cover: It was hot, but it also made me not take this book as serious in the beginning. I think this book had more potential for a nice and more serious cover, this book is more than sex and muscles, there is also hurt in it…
Storyline and thoughts: This book starts out with them being at high school and going through hurt full stuff because he is just so stubborn. She hates him, he makes her hate him. Everything is going really well, until they both need to start working together to get what they both want. A job… So she needs to help him clean his act up. She doesn’t think it’s an easy fix but he helps her really after that he finally sees that he still had a chance. He tries to win her back by acting good, not trying to fuck it up all the time and seducing her but when she’s seducing him he acts respectful. Talking about a brain fuck. He is really nice though, not a prick at all like he’s acting in the beginning. They decide they want to be together and start hanging out together more. But then weird things start to happen, and they both don’t know what to think. Doubt starts slipping in to Lucy’s brain and she’s trying to give, even though he doesn’t let her. Everything goes downhill from that moment on and then there’s this big and giant epilogue that made me really happy!
Patrick Archer made my life hell in high school, but that’s all over and done with now. I’ve tried not to think about him since I graduated a year ago, because if I did, all I’d be able to think of is punching him right in his stupid face. His sexy, perfect face. Dammit, even after everything he did, I still can’t deny how hot he is, and it’s impossible to stop myself from picturing him in my dreams night after night… Because there’s no justice in the world, Patrick is a famous actor now, and his Mom is married to my studio executive Dad….making him my evil stepbrother. My Dad wants us all to act like a proper family and spend more time together, and as such, he’s hired me to spend time with Patrick and clean up his bad-boy media image. (part of Amazon blurb) Oh yeah, whoever said High School were/are the best years are partially right. After further consideration, that might be full of crock, especially when Lucy tells her part of the last few years of high school; yeah, I could almost relate, minus the sex (total mortification! Lol). As I was saying, compared to many of the stepbrother/stepsister romances, this is the first where they don’t live together, but rather they work together, and the dynamic was different, which I enjoyed. Lucy was the one with the grudge, the attitude, while Patrick was the one with the regret; together they must work to clean up the bad boy image. So hot it rivaled the heat wave in our city, entertaining enough that I wondered if I could skip a few chores and meals to finish the book faster and especially realistic so I didn’t feel like it was completely ‘out there’, an idea that was fictional. This was my first time reading a novel from Caitlin Daire and sincerely hope it is NOT my last since she has an amazing penmanship.
**Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. Read and reviewed by Kathleen for Alpha Book Club**
Judging a Book by it's Cover: Another gratuitous bare torso with accentuating shadows. Flashy fuchsia font. Synopsis sounds like it'll be a New Adult RomCom more than anything. Another Stepbrother book.
Looking Deeper: First-person, alternating POV. Clearly defined. Under 200 pages. Patrick was her classmate, first, and downfall all before graduating high school. And before her dad met and married his mom. Now he's the bad-boy actor in need of a professional image makeover and her dad's hired her to manage that task. Add in a crazy ex, determined paparazzi, and psychotic stalker fans, and the obstacles keep piling up. Patrick and Lucy have a past prior to being step-siblings - a past their parents know nothing about. After a few years of suppression, the close proximity proves too hard to resist. The leads are very likable. The secondary characters add layers of drama and provide solid support. Dialogue is very good. Character interaction feels natural. The plot, for being such a short book (or longer novella), is filled with dynamic action and intriguing suspense. Ms. Daire's writing style is extremely smooth and easy to devour. There are plenty of hurdles being thrown at the lead characters, but they prove themselves capable of handling the obstacles in believable, age-appropriate manners. There was some predictable moments and one big surprise. The conclusion is very solid, although it would have been nice to learn what became of Lex. Overall, it was not a standard-issue regurgitated plot. There were some great, fresh elements to it that made it stand out from the crowd of step- taboo stories.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
What would you do if the guy you hated became your step-brother. This happened to Lucy, now Lucy knew that her parent marriage was bad and when it ended in divorce no one was surprised. Years later both her mom and dad are with new people and she is happy for them both. The problem isn't who her parents are with it is who her dad's new wife brought with her. Patrick was always the good looking guy in high school that every girl wanted. Lucy was no different but she knew he was out of her league because she was more of a nerd then the beauty next door, or at least that is how she saw herself. However one day her bio teacher had asked her if she would tutor Patrick and well it was something she just couldn't pass up. That day they went to his place and ended up in his room she knew what would happen she just didn't realize that it would cause her such emotional pain for the rest of high school and later in life.
Patrick knows what he did back then was wrong but he figures he doesn't deserve Lucy's forgiveness so he just keeps playing the jerk when around her. When her dad hires her to be his babysitter for the morality clause of the new show he is filming he knows there are dangers ahead. He wants her but knows there is no way he can have her. There is no way she would ever forgive him, or would she? Can they be friends?
This book has some really shocking twists in it that you won't see coming. I don't want to give anything away that is why I mainly talked about the beginning of the book. This book will have you on the edge of your seat from the first word to the very last. I would absolutely recommend it.
I really enjoyed this book. The author knows how to draw you into the story. This is the first book I have read by the author and I wasn't disappointed. If you love step brother romances then you will love this one as well. This book will keep you on your toes while you try to solve a situation but so much happens in this book. The chemistry between the two is hot but most of all you will read about a love forming and staying true. To read about two people who hated each other and able to overcome things so they can work together, shows you what love means for them.
Lucy graduated high school and never went to college but while she was in high school she had a hookup with Patrick. She thought Patrick was real until one day he proved her wrong. Now she needs to let go of the past and move on - she gets a job with her father and now she is faced with Patrick.
Patrick regrets what he did to Lucy and wishes he could take it all back. He ends up working with Lucy and his image so that he can look like a new guy, not the bad boy alpha. Things start to happen and when it involves Lucy he can't handle to much more.
Lucy & Patrick must work together but also trouble seems to find them. Both of them need to work together and figure everything out. It's their story and they are telling it like it needs to be.
An amazing story that you don't want to miss reading - it's worth it. I highly recommend. I look forward to more by the author.
Can I just say how much I love the nickname "Trick!" It's a big one to live up to (alas, the Patricks I've known don't), but if it fits it's pretty damn perfect!
Lots of action happened in this book that I felt was missing out of many of the others in this series; it made for a much more interesting and page turning read. Crazy stalkers are always a plus and make for lots of suspense; I tell ya, even I had a hard time figuring out who the stalker was... it completely was NOT who I thought it would be, but looking back I felt a whole lot of the hindsight bias effect kicking in, lol!
I wasn't thrilled with the beginning of the book, specifically how Patrick and Lucy met and became a thing, although I'm glad it didn't take the same initial turn as Mine - A Stepbrother Romance and Score - A Stepbrother Romance; their connection seemed kind of abrupt and out of the blue, I prefer a little build up.
Frankly, I find it hilarious how every single one of her male MCs is such an amazing and voracious lover- not to mention total man whore- at the young age of 18 (give or take)... yeah, that's rarely actually the case (at least in my experience, sadly, lol). I just don't know how believable it is and seems pretty unrealistic... but hey, it totally works for the story and us readers!
What would you do if you let the hot shot popular guy in high school be your first and the next day he basically thrown you under the bus and have the whole school ridicule you all throughout school life?
Patrick 'Trick' Archer knew Lucy was to goo for him but when the chance encounter one night torturing him he took his chance and felt heaven in her arms. But the next day his on and off again girlfriend wanted him back and she ma Dee him choose her or Lucy in front of the whole school, Prick. He took the reputation over true feelings. That decision cost Lucy her pure girl image .
Two years later time to face the music and deal with each other. Lucy dad runs a production studio and Lucy needs a job, anything. Well she is stuck babysitting her new stepbrother Patrick, the man that caused her A Lot of anguish. Her dad needs Patrick to clean his bad boy image for a new PG tv show and Lucy has to make him look good. While hating his guts. Will these two ever get things straightened out and let the past be water under the bridge?
Lucy's dad and mom are still on good terms, they were divorced, he never spend time with her or her mom, before he remarried. His new wife is very loving towards Lucy and even her mom. So no hatred from anyone other then for Lucy and Patrick's beginning. Second chances, clean slate, celebrity gossip, and back stabbing craziness. Great story, felt longer then what it was, full of details and history. Told in both p.o.v.
Translation: This is my 5th or 6th Stepbrother book and you know how the Story works (1:1 Translation from German: You know how the bunny runs haha) Its not like the book was very bad, but it also wasnt very good. The hero takes the V-Card from the Heroine in high School and ditches her the very next day. He apologizes years later and everything is fine. I believe the heroines are much better humans than myself in situations like this. I would let him crawl until he's bleeding... Otherwise, there is some suspense in this book, that was new. And I learned something. Obviously "Schadenfreude" is a word in the english language (like Bratwurst).
What a pleasant surprise! This hot and fun novel isn't as cliché as it might have seemed at the beginning. Patrick Archer is the typical bad boy, all cocky and handsome, who put his now stepsister through hell in high school. Honestly, I despised his attitude and terrible behaviour at first. Yet soon enough the author managed to set up a different situation and she made him into a brand new character worth a reader's admiration.
Lucy and Patrick have to work together and, thanks to a double POV, we can find out what bad blood there was between them and why he had acted that way. I the most awesome ways, he comes about as a great guy and completely redeems himself in Lucy's eyes, and mine too.
That's not the only great thing about the plot as there is action, suspense and character growth that made the whole story much more rounded and wholesome as well as interesting. Not a moment of peace either. There's always something happening to the characters as they fall into this forbidden relationship full of love and heat that's also surrounded by media stalkers, crazy people, life decisions and nasty surprises.
I really liked Patrick's character, that they both try to better themselves, and the ending that takes care of everything in the plot from romance to family to life. Really nice story!
Stumbled onto this ebook on general-ebooks website and I thought "why not?"
I've read step siblings "forbidden" romance before, and it's not in my list of taboos. It's just that you practically live together with your other half AND your parents.
I was skeptical about this book, and I read it as a stand alone. After reviewing the reviews on this book, (talk about reviewception, phew!) I decided to give it a shot.
This is one of the books I'll read when I'm scouting or waiting for my next great book!
The story started out with a rather broken family- two sets of family are involved, step siblings arrowing the hell out of one another. The star of this book was definitely the subtle message about the importance of family and the ugly side to fame.
This is probably one of the shortest reviews I've written. It's a decent book to go to. However I don't recommend it to more mature audience as there's large parody to MTV shows - the werewolves diaries, six angels, even Dicaprio movie (?). Not really a big fan on those twists, to me, if you want to name it, give it a spectacular name please!
Lucy didnt have it easy in high school. Losing her virginity to Patrick was both heavenly and her biggest mistake. After he humiliated her in front of every one at school she never wanted to go to uni. After coming back from Africa on voluntary work after a year, Lucy's stuck for a job. Calling her father for help he gives her an offer. Work for him and work with Patrick. But that is far from her dreams as it a living nightmare.
Lucy has to watch and help clean up Patricks act 24/7. Being around the Prick who destroyed her highschool years. But it doesn't help that sparks fly between them. An innocent kiss can destroy them so what happens if they give into their desire for each other
Patrick has one regret in life but he won't Let Lucy know. Patrick wishes he could change the past from hurting Lucy in front of every one at high school. SO instead of saying sorry he is a 24/7 prick towards her. Trying to make up for the past isn't easy especially with his career and job on the line. Throw in a crazy stalker who is trying to destroy him, add a near death experience. What could go wrong.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book! I loved the characters and the story line which had a mystery suspense element to it. The author has a good writing style and the story had a lot more depth than I expected. It's so much better than many of the other stepbrother romances I have read. The two main characters, Patrick, now a TV star, and Lucy, who is between jobs, have some not so good history from high school, and although their parents are now married, they don't see much of each other until she is hired by the studio to keep him on the straight and narrow. For me, the story really picked up once they had an honest conversation about the past and Patrick became becomes a much more honest admirable character. Lucy who has been really hurt by what happened, is a very forgiving person and can finally let go of her anger. Now when they have a chance at happiness, a unknown and deadly third party threatens to destroy everything. At $.99, this book is a steal.
I was given this book by the author for an honest review. This was the first book that I have read by Caitlin Daire. I have read a few stepbrother romances before, and this was one of the better ones. Lucy and Archer have had a relationship in high school, if you can count their one day passionate encounter a relationship. After that day of Archer selfishly turns his back on Lucy beginning their hate relationship. Later on Lucy's dad marries Archer's mom. A couple of years have passed and Lucy had asked her dad for a job. Lucy's dad is a very successful movie executive who hires Lucy to help salvage Archer's bad boy reputation. Archer is a hot television star who's latest show has him sign a morals contract. While working together, the spark that they originally felt in High School is rekindled. Now they must survive the many obstacles of their taboo romance. If you enjoy stepbrother romances go one click this one. It has drama, betrayal, some funny parts and lots of hot sex. I strongly recommend this book.
