LIES, DECEIT, BLACKMAIL, BETRAYAL AND MORE !!! OH MY !!! Book: Demanded by Him Series: Chosen by Him Designation: Book Seven of a Multi-Installment Serial, NOT a Standalone Story Author: Ellie Danes Edition: Kindle Unlimited Heat Level: Mild My Rating Four Stars Wow! Ellie Danes has done it again! And just what has she done, you ask? She has released another spellbinding installment in her Chosen by Him series. Oh my! Demanded by Him is the seventh book of the serial and is filled to the brim with blackmail, betrayal, lust, love and consequences. And yes, I said series as in serial which means multiple installments and dare I say it, cliffhangers. Yikes! Each installment is relatively short and is perfect for a quick break or lunchtime read. So be forewarned, if you haven't read the first six books of the series, please stop here. Although I recognize this may not be everyone's cup of tea, I personally love the excitement and anticipation of a great serial and look forward to those nail biting, what will happen next endings. And Danes delivers in spades! The story is fresh, modern, exciting, believable, riveting, romantic, arousing, seductive and sensual. This is not erotica but does contain some adult material including some very tasteful sex scenes. The dialogue is smart and flows well. The characters are the most important component in this story as seems to be the case in most of Danes books. They take center stage and as the story unfolds and Danes does an exceptional job of the development of her two main players. The book is written in the first person with his and her alternating points of view from the two primary players. However, all the characters are captivating, intriguing, engaging and realistic. She expertly combines these elements to craft a deliciously romantic and delightfully entertaining read. Twenty four year old MBA student, Summer Farris, is beautiful, intelligent and hard working and wants nothing more to excel and become successful in her field. Her current goal is to win a business internship with her professor, handsome, billionaire Chase Kerns but when she is passed over for one of the five coveted slots, she is beyond devastated. She and her roommate, Alyssa, decide to drown their mutual disappointment at a local bar just off campus where she sees Professor Kerns with one of his colleagues. After several drinks of liquid courage, Summer makes a fool of herself by confronting her professor and leaves the bar, embarrassed and quite a bit tipsy. She decides to walk home but is conveniently offered a ride by her professor. Hmmm.......I wonder if the handsome Professor Kerns is as attracted to the lovely Summer as she is to him. It seems he is! Oh my! Sparks Fly! This could be the recipe to either an exciting, loving relationship or a perfectly horrible disaster once Summer's ex-boyfriend, Brandon Porter enters the equation with intentions to blackmail sweet Summer. He needs money and he demands that Summer help him fleece Chase Kerns or else! What the heck? I wonder what Summer will decide??? Will she allow herself to be manipulated by Brandon or will she confess everything to Chase before it's too late? Will love prevail or will Chase be hurt, used and betrayed - again??? Hmm....I wonder? No spoilers from me but I will say this......Beautiful, intelligent grad student who is hardworking, independent, career-minded, ambitious and very competitive-check! Handsome, charismatic billionaire who owns his own business but is also a college professor and is head over heels in lust with one of his students-check! A previous inappropriate relationship which ended in disaster and blackmail-check! A cruel, manipulative ex-boyfriend intent on blackmail-check! An upsetting and questionable burglary-check! Lies, deceit and betrayal-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, forbidden love, a healthy dose of agonizing angst and some sweet romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Oh my Glory! This just gets better and better! I can hardly wait to read the next installment! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
If one mark of a good book is the level of emotion it is able to bring out in its readers, then part 7 has more than enough going on to mark it as a success. I spent my entire time reading this book glued to my seat filled with anger, dismay, and disgust at Summer and her faulty decision making. The way I see it, for a supposedly smart girl, Summer is acting so stupid that I just want to shake her silly. Throughout the series, I have been all for Summer and Chase having their HEA, but now I'm not so sure that she is worthy of him. I know she chose to go down her current road because of her love and concern for Chase and his business tempered with a desire to not have her own future ruined either; however, if she truly trusted Chase as she should she would have turned the whole thing over to him when Brandon first approached her. After all, what rational person would ever think a weasel like Brandon could ever best a powerful alpha male like Chase had he been given the opportunity to handle the situation?! I do hope things work out better for everyone in part eight, and I will anxiously await its release to find out where things go next.
I really loved this series at the start and as it progressed it went downhill for me. First off, the installments are so short and so many of them. After 7 installments I didn't think there would more but there is! This ends up being quite pricey for something that doesn't have much of a backstory and has so many mistakes. I have read lots from this author and she really needs help with editing. On the plus side I do love Chase's character and he makes the series for me. As for Summer I started off liking her and thinking she was smart and strong but she is neither in my opinion now. Her decisions are quite the opposite and she seems so immature. There isn't much depth and emotion to the story. It could be so much more but it's lacking as it goes along. Really wanted to like this more!
Let me start by saying I have really enjoyed this series up until this point. Not that this installment is bad and not like I'm not going to read the next one (I am invested after reading 7 books to not finish), but I do not like the change in personalities in Chase and Summer. Oh and it looks like Summer might want to consider getting a new BFF.
*Spoiler*
Who doesn't tell their BFF they have camera's in their house and are being watched?! Why would Alyssa go to Chance to tell him she suspects Summer is cheating on him? Is her loyalty not to her BFF? If Chase think Summer is so much like Hannah why would he put up with her? Just some of my question from this installment. Hopefully book 8 is better.
Unless absolutely love this series! It always keeps you guessing and wanting more!!!!! I wish I would've started the series after Sri the books were out, I an not a patient person when it comes to series I love! I hope Summer pours more faith in Chase.
Well this episode turned into a real suspense. Secrets and lies are everywhere. Summer has got herself in quite a situation. I am not sure how this will play out. Hopefully part 8 will have the answers.
