Andrew King is a self published author whose main goal in life is to entertain other, we will see how successful that is. Born in Manchester, Droylsden to Edward and Sarah King I first began writing when I was in Secondary school at the end of a particularly long day. I wrote many stories in private until the year 2020 when, during lockdown, I decided to try and publish one. Cold Blood was born.

I want to preface by saying this isn't my usual read, I've never read a horror book in it's entirety before and usually avoid them at all costs. Fortunately, I took a risk with this ARC and was happily surprised with the outcome. There is something extremely entertaining about a book that makes you laugh while also making you question your own morality. This novel contains the kind of premise that immediately makes you wonder how the author (and the characters) intend to pull it off and yet, this author managed to do it in the most compelling way. Sarah, our favorite cannibal, is intelligent, witty, charming, and remarkably easy to follow, even when her actions are less than ideal. There's a particular talent involved in making readers enjoy the company of characters whose morals are, at best, deeply questionable and this author possesses that talent in abundance. The humor and horror go hand in hand, complementing one another beautifully. The comedy feels intentional rather than forced, and the gore feels well placed and unsettling in the best way. What could have been a straightforward horror story also contains an undercurrent of "eat the rich," which I appreciated thoroughly, using it's premise to play with ideas about privilege and power. The writing itself was clearly well considered, and the story was easy to follow without feeling simplistic. Without spoiling anything, I can confidently say that the ending caught me off guard. It's the kind of twist that makes you want to stare at the wall and curse the author and I mean that as the highest possible compliment. Five stars for the story, the well thought out premise, the humor, and the audacity. Zero starts for the emotional damage. #Necessarahy.

I received this as an arc in exchange for an honest review. No Spoilers.

My jaw is officially on the floor. I am honestly at a loss for words. If you are looking for a completely unhinged, wildly creative ride, this is it. Sarah is absolutely out of her mind, but honestly, even though she is incredibly unhinged, she is weirdly helpful and loyal to her friends. There is a major plot twist at the very end that I did not see coming at all, and it completely caught me off guard. My theory was completely wrong. Filled with laugh-out-loud satirical humor mixed with visceral, gory moments, this book has officially ruined me; I will literally never eat food from someone else's house ever again, and I probably will not be eating pork for the longest time.
I suggest not eating while reading this book. 😆

I received this as an ARC read, and it was a really good read! I had theories throughout the story, none of which prepared me for the ending. It was unexpected, but I enjoyed it. I absolutely loved the protagonist. She’s petty, sassy, and brilliant. Definitely check the triggers page if you’ve a weak stomach, but it’s worth the read!
