Alaska. A beautiful and harsh place to live. A state where once you leave any form of civilization, which truly only lies in the larger cities, it is man versus nature and oftentimes nature is clearly the winner. Anders and Ujaruk are both researchers at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, and they've been paired up on a project for the next thirty days. Anders has a doctorate in geology, Ujaruk's is in archeology, and they're heading to investigate an ore vein that Anders has found.

Anders moved to Alaska after his six-year relationship with his advisor ended, after he caught him trying to steal his dissertation and claim it as his own work. Ujaruk has recently come back to the college where he started his life after leaving his Aleutian island. Not many people know that Ujaruk is a native Aleut, and he likes to keep it that way. His college boyfriend hurt him in so many ways, one of them being the fact that Ujaruk is native.

As these two are getting to know each other better (and it's definitely insta), they experience more and more tremors. And I'm talking about the geological type, not the sexual energy type. Anders heads into the mine shaft to investigate what they both think is the serious improbability of someone actually mining down there, and a massive earthquake hits the area. I honestly can't reveal any more, or it would spoil it for someone else. *grins*

If you like the idea of two bumbling academics falling in love, and the outdoor dangers provided by Mother Nature, along with insta-love, then this might be the novella for you. It is a fun and entertaining read.

I loved this part in the series. I really appreciate stories with more diversity. Ujaruk, a native Aleut, is such a fantastic character. He's very well-written. Don't get me wrong, I loved Anders too, but Ujaruk is the real reason to read this story. I loved how complex and interesting he was as well as how struggles he'd experienced as an Aleut were not swept aside for the sake of storytelling--they were very much a part of who he was.

The whole thing was terrific. I really like smart men and interesting discoveries, and everything about this felt just right. The pacing was perfect for the plot, and the whole thing delighted me. This is my favorite part of the series so far.

Anders last relationship with a colleague turned bad, not only did he move out, he moved to Alaska and started a new life there. He loves his new job and colleagues. Even though the sexy native has caught his eye, he tries to keep things platonic. Until he finds himself facing death in an earthquake and realizing life is too short.
Ujarak was hurt in a past relationship being used by an under-grad. He likes his job and finds himself very attracted to the sexy red headed Anders but is afraid to have his heartbroken, but is heart-ache scarier than a deadly earthquake?
I really loved this story. There was a good build up, we knew Anders past from the prologue and found out more back story later from both Anders and Ujarak. There is a bit of mystery about the mine, and the Earthquake plays a big part in the story.
I would have liked to know more about what they were looking for in the mine and why the other men were there. Other than that the story was fantastic. Just enough back-story, romance and sexual tension.
If you like natural disasters, geologists, slow building relationships, not a lot of sex and a sweet romantic story, this is for you!

Anders and Ujaruk have both been used and hurt by their ex they both not looking for anyone. But when both guys are out together for an month for an mining. Can both guy resistant the urge or will they give in and give love another chance.
