Malcolm Gladwell points out the obvious. Or what should have been obvious? Using statistics and a type of insight, he finds that to be successful there is a minimum of natural ability and downright luck. Even then it does not guarantee Malcolm's supposed success.
This book is fun and easy to read the book. But do not let it fool you into thinking that this is light reading or just the popular science of the day. There is a dead serious theory that appears to apply (split infinitives allowed here.) Knowing this theory will help you to make the requirements for success instead of just guessing at them.
At least I came away with a different paradigm, and now see everything in the world differently.
It has been suggested that regardless of the factors in this book one may be content with a job that fits his/her value system.
I must have been schizophrenic in a job sense. In the U.S. Army and Reserves, I well enjoyed being a mechanic and power systems, maintenance sergeant. While at the same time, I was a business/engineering systems analyst in the civilian world. So this book helps me look back to see how I found myself in the situation.
In order to understand a human success, you need to read this one. Gladwell did a great job with writing this book, this might be one of his best books. It is an interesting study about success and a perfect recipe on how to achieve it. Learn from the experience of many great individuals that have made their way to the top despite all odds.
Points the obvious but with details that many would not think of. Many stories showing different achievements or failures and the reasons behind them. This book should be in the "must read" section!
Summed up the book well. Did not have time to read the actual book before book club and wanted to know general idea. However, now I am almost done with the actual book and not just the cliff notes, the details of the sociology research are really what make it interesting. The real book is worth your time!
Required slightly more information and elaboration!
See above. Needed to elaborate more on what was relevant. Although concise, and although it is a Synopsys, I wanted a bit more. Maybe that's the reason... Buy the book! Hmmmmmm
