This book was available for free on Kindle when I found it, so the very least I can do for the author is leave a review. I am happy to say I enjoyed this book, and it introduced me to a couple of cryptids which were totally new to me!

I had never heard of the Beast of Bodmoor. Exmoor, yes, but not Bodmoor. I had also never heard of Flying Rods. I had heard a tiny bit about the Bunyip and the Wendigo, but the Beast of Gevaudan was a complete surprise. I was so happy to learn more about the world's legendary creatures. To be honest, before this book I knew more about the World of Darkness Bunyip and Wendigo then the legends that gave the game developers the names.

Bauer only spends a few pages per cryptid, but he gives extensive citations for further followup. His tone is skeptical, and he is unafraid to admit where there is scanty evidence or a known history of hoaxes. He's also unafraid to let his complete disbelief show, as in the Flying Rods chapter. While he is diplomatic, he seems to give more weight to the debunkers than the promoters of this photographic phenomenon.

I look forward to reading other books by Bauer, and giving my thoughts on them as well. Four of five stars.

The whole area of cryptzoology, the study of strange//hidden animals, is not accepted by 'real' science. It's discarded as misidentified things or outright fraud.

Yet these strange animals have caused stories to be left behind of them in most world cultures which would tend to cause a person to think there might be at least a modicum of truth behind them.

The book admits there are hoaxes and misinformation out there and gives a good example of this.

Some of the cryptids it covers includes the Loch Ness Monster, the Yeti/Sasquatch and the Thunderbird.

The logic problem I come up with those is that their numbers seem to be way too small in order to have a breeding population large enough to avoid genetic defects becoming dominant. For example, there seems to be just one Loch Ness monster and Yetis and Sasquatch don't ever seem to be found in large groups and their living places haven't been found.

What, then, have people been seeing then?

One of my favorite in the book is the Bunnyip from Australia. There are various other water creatures, 'flying rods,' the Kraken, the Wendigo and something called the Reptilians.

It's an interesting book whether or not a person believes these cryptids actually exist.

Explores Some Famous Cryptids

This short book was an exploration of some well known and not so known cryptids. From the Loch Ness monster to the Wendigo, Thunderbird, Yeti, Beast of Bodmin, Beast of Gevaudan, Bunyip, Kraken to reptilian, each is explored in a scientific manner. I enjoyed listening to the audio book version as well. An entertaining short work that cryptid fans should enjoy.

Although I enjoy the paranormal as a subject, cryptology is not one of my favourite areas.
Having said that, the author has made the subject interesting by introducing several cryptoids into one book, some of which I have never heard off.
I enjoyed the book and think it is a good introduction for someone starting out on the subject, as well as the seasoned enthusiast.

If you are reading this book just for factual information then this book delivers. However it does read like a text book. Story telling is kept to a minimum. Good information but a dull read.

I enjoyed the book! There were a couple of grammatical errors and the writing style wasn't the most engaging, but it was succinct. A fun, short read.

Interesting Read on Cryptids

Although a short and by no means thorough study into cryptozoology, this book provides and interesting first glimpse into the pseudo-science.

If you have read other books on Cryptids, this book is not for you.
