"Sometimes love isn't enough to salvage a relationship. This book is about redemption and second chances and will keep you turning the pages." ~ Heather Davenport - Naughty and Nice Book Blog

Stereotypical trailer trash. That’s how people saw me. I’m Karmen Butler, the girl everyone teased, tortured, pranked—bullied.

After graduating high school, I left my shithole of a town behind with no intentions of ever returning. My dreams were within my grasp. Or so I thought…

Luck. That’s what was on his side. Brayden Stephens was on top of the world and the biggest prick of all. At least that’s how I remember him. Then he lost it all. His vices took over and now he’s a washed-up has-been with a cocky smirk and arrogant attitude.

Valued. That was how he made me feel. One night changed everything for us. In an instant I was lost to his touch, his voice. Everything about him captivated me.

Against my better judgment, I let him in. I let him see the real me. Since he’d walked into my office, he’d been trying to redeem himself of his past mistakes.

Glimpses of a love and life I’d never known before were all he had given me. Now he’s done it, the one thing he said he wouldn’t. He’s broken me. AGAIN.

Excuses are what I was fed. The truth restrained him, bound him to his past, and now, I’m left to deal with the aftermath.

Is there anything left to SALVAGE?

I don’t know…

You tell me.

Salvage (Salvage Duet #1) by Tiffany Aleman
4.5 stars!!

“I’m not God baby. I’m the devil. I want to play and corrupt and worship you in the most sinful of ways.”

This is the first book of a duet by Tiffany Aleman and all I can say is what a start. To say that I loved this book would be an understatement, I loved it hard!! This book was real, it wasn’t always pretty but it had so many messages littered throughout. This book was full of hope and forgiveness and even if you are in the direst of circumstances you always have friends to help you, pick you up and be that rock that you desperately need.

This book touches on some tough subjects mainly bullying and alcoholism. Having been bullied for most of my school life and having an alcoholic parent for quite a while I could relate to so much in this book, maybe that is why it really pulled at my heart strings, but for me personally this hit home and I found myself in tears so many times.

“You were like a cancer that wouldn’t go away.”

Bullying is a term often bandied about at the drop of at hat, but once you have been a victim of bullying you really understand its true meaning and Karmen’s life really mirrored my own in some respects. While I was bullied by all girls, Karmen had boys and girls against her and they truly made her life hell, to the point that she had on several occasions thought of ending her life. They were mean and cruel and totally humiliated her on so many occasions, but Karmen was strong, she battled through and made it out relatively unscathed. Karmen was an easy target, she was poor, her clothes didn’t fit, she wore flip flops in winter and all because her parents were addicts in one form or another.

Underneath those ill fitting clothes and ill fitting shoes was a beautiful girl on the inside and out, her resilience was astounding. She walked with her eyes to the ground and tried to keep out of their way but these kids were relentless. If only they took their time to see the person underneath.

“It’s nothing personal. It’s simple really. You exist. That’s enough of a reason for us.”

Brayden was one of the said bullies, but in his defence he was a little different from the others. He watched rather than participated to save face, to stay in with his friends. Brayden was Mr Popular, he was destined for the NHL, was born into wealth and privilege but his home life was far from perfect. He had a Dad that belittled him at every turn and who was quite fond of using his fists too. His mother was always at the end of a bottle of wine and did very little parenting. He was alone too, in more ways than one.

“I’m a man tainted by my own vices. Vices that run so deep, I’m not sure I’ll ever be free.”

This happened years ago, now, Karmen runs a radio station, imagine her surprise when Brayden comes in looking for a job. A serious injury has finished his NHL career and after a year destroying his life, he now has his tail between his legs. He is just as surprised as she is, but can these two really put the past behind them?

Old feelings come to a head and out into the open, but the past can never be forgotten, but is forgiveness a possibility?

This book was extremely emotional in places. Something as innocuous as alcohol can have such devastating repercussions if it is abused and being on the wrong end of that is not pretty. Tiffany Aleman captured this perfectly and it did bring back some awful memories but this also meant that I could empathise and sympathise with these characters so much. It always went a long ways to show how parenting can really affect a child forward. Whether it be their self worth or emotional hang ups, both can be devastating in their own right, forever impacting their children’s relationships going forward.

“Dreams don’t come true if you don’t chase after them.”

These two have a lot to work through, forgiveness may be given but the person receiving needs to accept it and sometimes the damage is irrevocable. I can’t wait for the next instalment. I love these two with a passion and even though their beginning was so awful, I can seriously see them being so right for each other. Maybe destiny had a sick way of bringing them together but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and these two were emotionally and physically perfect for each other.

“You are a survivor of your past and a fighter for your future.”

For an emotional read, this is perfect. It has everything, friendship, love, angst, hate and a great dose of wit. You will be laughing one minute and crying the next but at the end you know that you have read an amazing book. This is by far Tiffany Aleman’s best book to date and as I said, I cannot wait for the finale.

As an avid seeker of happily ever afters, I have an affinity for stories that feel 'real' to me, stories that never hold back, are never sugar-coated. They are raw, honest, and beautiful. The first book in the SALVAGE duet will always be a beloved book to me. It's not a love story with a big red bow at the top. Aleman plans to make us work for the fairy-tale ending we crave. This one did put my heart through the ringer. My chest ached, my heart soared, and my tears ran true. Aleman gives us so much more than a hero and a heroine, she gives us real people, people who we can relate to and identify with. I laughed, cried, and got angry with these people. I connected with them, and I'm heavily invested now. I know a happily every after is at the end of the rainbow, but in this case, it is the beautiful journey that means the most to me.

Brilliant writing, gut-wrenching story line, and characters that will forever be in my heart. Salvage, Book 1 is just the beginning, and I can't wait to continue this journey in the sequel.

Brave, brutal, and ultimately beautiful.

Shew! This one's a roller-coaster! I liked the strong heroine Karmen, who needed time to trust Brayden, our hero and ex NFL-superstar. He'd crushed her heart when he stood by and allowed her to be humiliated in school by his best friend. (Aleman cleverly gives us his POV, and lets us see the darkness behind his curtain.)

Abuse, alcoholism--they've both suffered so much before their paths lead them together and smoking hot romance. But is love enough to heal all these old wounds?

We'll see....

A sexy, smart, and very real love story.
A five-star must-read! :)

After reading Salvage, I admire Miss Tiffany’s masterfully creation. I admire her even more after reading the ‘Acknowledgements’ section.
This story touched me deeply, emotionally & personally.
A young girl who should’ve at least had an average, if not great empowering experience in high school, only to be shunned by her physical appearance and up bringing.
It’s sad. Bullying still happens around the world. 24 hours a day. 365 days a year.
Someone is experiencing such traumatic events.
Accepting the past & embracing fate is one Karmen took with stride full dignity, only to get shunned, ignored & broken all over again. She’s a strong girl who’s grown into an amazing person & woman.
Brayden’s not the same stupid a** kid he was years ago. Living with sadness & regret every single day. He puts on a façade of himself. He has to. Family, friends, heck social upbringings says to.
Now he has a second chance. A calling such as redemption now has given him prideful hope.
New dreams. New beginnings.
What happens when you finally find your soul mate, even if knowing only for a short time, would you give all your sweat, blood and tears trying to change fates course?
This was personal for me with the experiences & similarities.
‘To be continued……’ Wth?? NOOOOOO
I was graciously gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Salvage -- Release August 2nd
Tiffany Aleman
4 stars

Be aware that if you have issues or triggers and cannot read stories of alcoholism and also bullying/abuse please reconsider giving this a one click.
I would like to applaud Ms. Aleman for touching on three very serious topics in her book Salvage. The story sheds light on the pain that each of these diseases and issues cause those that suffer from hate or addiction.
Karmen Butler has made her way back home. She came back when her mother passed and treasures the four years she has had with her father. A year later after his passing she is still back in her home town, her dreams now gone but she is doing well for herself managing a local radio station. Her best friend from school, her only friend from school Tammy works with her and life could be worse. The minute Brayden Stephens walks in for an interview maybe it just has. Brayden and his friend Drew were the two people who made her life almost unbearable in high shool. They took pleasure in causing her harm and humiliation. However Karmen is no longer that small poverty stricken girl he once pushed almost to her end. She is a strong woman and she can hold her head high of who she is now and who she has become.

Brayden Stephens was on top of the world and the high school quarter back that made it. He got out but injuries plagued him and his last concussion got him cut from the NFL. Brayden is broke, has no where to go and he needs this job. Little does he know who he is going to find sitting behind that desk at the radio station. When he sees Karmen he doesn’t know how to act. If she only knew his demons and how many times she wanted to rush to her side; tell Drew and his so called friends to leave her alone. But he couldn’t .. that would show weakness. His Dad taught him about weakness and how it makes you the biggest pussy. Brayden’s Dad hates him. Every chance he gets he reminds him of what a loser he is. Now he gets to face his biggest regret of all. Never coming to Karmen’s rescue but in fact participating in her humiliation back in high school.

I know what you all are thinking .. this isn’t a book I would give 4 stars too. But that is where you are wrong. This story is exceptional. Although some of the events are somewhat maybe not realistic as to what transpires between Karmen, Tammy, Brayden and Drew but I wish it “could be.” If adults, kids, people in general would stop and realize that actions and words are some of the most devastating things that stay with us no matter what we may project to the outside world we would be so much better off. I wont spoil things for you but Brayden has some demons that are so deep and such pressure from being someone he was not that his own hell cut just as deep as Karmen’s.
I highly recommend you give this book a shot. There is a cliffhanger and so much more to dig into. I cant wait to see this story play out. Book two in the series is due out in September. Great Great Job.

I've tried to let my brain settle in hopes my review does this book justice. Tiffany tackles subjects prevalent in today's society: alcoholism, drug addiction, child abuse, bullying.

Let's touch on bullying. This word is bandied about so much, it's true meaning has been diluted because everyone cries wolf for the least offense or infraction.

Not Karmen Butler. During her high school years, she was a true victim of the heinous act. Thanks to her parents' addictions, she's forced to fend for herself from a young age. Her obvious poverty, her kind, gentle spirit, and her lack of anything parental create a huge target on her back. The ways this child was tormented... Dear God in Heaven. How she survived, and survive she did, is beyond the realm of my understanding.

Brayden Stephens comes from wealth and privilege. He's a star athlete. A flashy dresser. The Golden Boy. Oh, and the leader of the pack against Karmen. Though he doesn't participate in the evil deeds against her, he stands back, watches, and never lifts a hand or says a word to help her or defend her.

Fast forward to today. Karmen manages a radio station. Brayden suffers an injury that ends his career in the NFL. She needs an employee. He needs a job. She struggles to forget the past. He fights to show her the real him as he tries to create a future with her.

But through it all, addictions, secrets, and permanent damage from the past push to the forefront of their lives.

I was honored to receive an ARC of Salvage for an honest review. How can I get more honest than saying---This was such a beautifully written story of two people who are meant to be together, yet demons of the past and future choices gets in the way. I loved Brayden, even with his deep flaws. Karmen and Brayden have such a connection it's not hard to get wound up in their relationship. I am really looking forward to the next chapter!

"Dreams don't come true if you don't chase after them"

This book did not disappoint at all. Tiffany Aleman has become one my favourite writers very quickly and there is no doubt of that after reading Salvage Book One. Not being new to her writing hand, I can say her writing is seriously bewildering thus is executed in a way where it differentiates from various of New Adult Novels, by being that much more passionate, realistic and utterly raw. It's awe-striking, truly.

"But if you aren't the one committing the act, when you stand by and do nothing, you're just as guilty."

Brayden Stephens and Karmen Butler are two very different individuals from backgrounds that don't belong to each other. The blurb is exactly how it is. After years of harsh treatment and disregarded similarities, fate merges them together. They are simply two old high school enemies becoming friends to lovers and each others companion in a lonesome world that face never-ending stipulations.
Just like Brayden says, they are "..Two people who want each other. Friends who were once enemies. Friends who have potential to be something great- something that in a hundred years will be told about. Now we just have to believe it" & Gosh, did they believe it. It took one heck of a rocky road to get where they ended up in but even after that, they were still faced with trials and tribulations. It didn't take long for Brayden to take a place in my heart, nor did it for Karmen. Why? Because thats how amazing Tiffany is at making you connect and relate to the characters. They were seriously two lost souls finding solace and love in each other. The fact that Tiffany gave us flashbacks to the characters' past life made it that more understandable and honest.

"Leopard spots never change spots and evil never sheds it black robe."

"You've always been the one to try and save someone"..."Yeah, well everyone needs saving now and again."

"My pain is mine and mine alone."

Brayden, being the guy he was, you'd expect a hard shell of a person but no, he was vulnerable as men can get. My heart broke for him. His father is a poor excuse of a Man and a father, gosh! When times got tough and the thoughts that went through Brayden's head, I just wanted to YELL at him to stop being so ridiculous and comfort him at the same time but thank the Lord for Karmen, she truly was the woman you'd want for a guy like Brayden. Having the past they shared, she was obviously having some doubts but in the end, the fact that she forgave him and became the person Brayden needed, it was a relief! Karmen had her own parent issues too, but her father made it up to her to be honest. Bless Karmen man, she's so strong and awe-inspiring.

"You're the diamond, Karmen. I found you, so I get to keep you."

"We're the only people in the war we've declared, battling against each other for what we want yet won't give.."

"I want my arms to offer her comfort. I want my kisses to show how much I want her. I want my words to give her reassurances in us. I want to lay the world at her feet and one day I will."

Together they shared amazing chemistry(Brayden's sexy mouth was hot!), negative ruthless pasts, new discoveries, comfort, solace, understanding and love which also created new friendships, even I forgave Drew, ha. I love him and Tammy, without them I don't think Brayden and especially Karmen would've survived. Also, another major factor, the heartbreak in the end they went through- together and individually. Now, that was what really got to me. My heart weeped and I actually sobbed! No, not single tears, full out, sobbing! I don't think I'll ever recover from that!!

"I'm not God baby. I'm the devil. I want to play and corrupt and worship you in the most sinful of ways"

"She's tried to be my rock but instead I threw her into the deep end and let her sink."

So in conclusion, this was a heck of a book full of words that will take you in a whirlwind of gut-wrenching emotions, inspiring people that you can relate from and realizing enemies can turn into friends/lovers. Yes it had situations that can be sensitive to some people but sometimes to end up in a good place, you gotta go through the pain, so read this book to aspire you and know there is always someone out there for you and a way forward. And yes, there is another book to this - normally I wouldn't read books with cliffhangers but I know without a doubt waiting for the second book, the anticipation will a great one and after finishing this book, I KNOW there are great things to come to Brayden and Karmen's story!

"Sometimes, Brayden, love isn't enough to salvage the damage that's been done"

~ 5 There's More to Come Stars ~

I really don't know how to write this review to make sure it does this fabulous book justice. I was absolutely blown away from this book. The storyline was filled with heart and emotion and I honestly thought it gave an accurate portrayal of what a person struggles with in life when it comes to abuse, bullying and alcoholism.

This is the first book I have read by Tiffany Aleman, and I will say it won't be my last. The amount of emotions that Tiffany makes a reader feel while reading this story was fantastic!!! My heart broke for these characters, but it also smiled and laughed with them. It also learned to love these characters as their flaws were revealed. I know that this is only the beginning of Brayden and Karmen's journey and I am truly hoping that they do get their HEA. I feel it is going to be a tough and long road for them to get there.

Now I do feel it is necessary to warn readers that this book does end on a cliffhanger and touches on some subjects that could be triggers for some people. As for the cliffhanger, it isn't a nail biter or a pull your hair out, it is the perfect ending to the start of Brayden and Karmen's journey. As a couple they aren't in a great place at the end of the story, but they are in a healing place. I feel that this book ended right where it should have. As for the tough subject she covers, it is the topic of Bullying, abuse and alcoholism. I want to say the Bullying is the prime focus of the story, because it was the focus of Brayden and Karmen's past history, but the abuse and alcoholism do play a big part in Brayden's backstory and why he is the way he is. I thought Tiffany did a wonderful job in showing the daily struggles both Karmen and Brayden had to go through.

I thought Karmen and Brayden were both great characters. Full of emotion and heart. I truly just wanted to jump into the book and give both of them hugs. I do hope that in the second book we get to see Brayden open up more to Karmen. It will be nice to see him let her in. I am interested to see how Karmen weathers in the next book. To see how she overcomes this set back from book 1.

As for the secondary characters, I thought they were all wonderful and just as important to this story as the main characters. Drew, Chelsea and Tammy were all amazing supports for both Karmen and Brayden. I was extremely happy to see Drew transform into a better person compared to his High School days and to ask for forgiveness from Karmen for all the wrong he did back then. It made it more believable that him and Karmen could end up being friends now later in life.

I would 100% recommend the heartfelt and emotional journey to everyone. If you aren't a fan of cliffhangers I don't think this is one you have to wait for book two before starting this one, just be aware that at the end there is more to come!!!!

Not sure how I feel about this book right now. Okay, that is not exactly true. I loved the book. Salvage touched on so many subjects prevalent in today's society such as alcoholism, drug addiction, physical abuse and bullying.

Karmen Bulter's high school life was a living hell. By day she dealt with extreme bullying by the hands of Drew Matthews and Brayden Stephens, at night she went home to a home where her parents were either high or too drunk to function. She decided that as soon as she got out she was going to leave and never come back. Unfortunately circumstances brought her back home to the town she wanted to never see again.

Karmen didn't come back the quiet, broken girl she left as. She came back a stronger, more opinionated and headstrong woman who was determined not to let the pain from her past determine who she would be today.

Her life was going great until Brayden Stephens walked back into her life and stirred up a wide array of emotions. Brayden was not the arrogant, heartless man she knew from her past. His eyes harbored pain and regret.

These two broken individuals soon found themselves drawn to each other and wanting to explore these feelings that have been dwelling for years. Brayden desperate to prove to her that he's not the man he used to be and Karmen is trying to open her heart up to the man who made her life a living hell.

Brayden has secrets. Karmen has suspicions. Can these two get past their pasts and their inner demons?

I have to admit Karmen is my favorite female characters of Tiffany's to date. She is strong, independent, and is determined not to live her life as a victim. She is a survivor and living well in the literary sense proof that no matter what life throws at you, you can make it.

Brayden took some time to grow on me. He was cocky, arrogant, and a bit of a butthole to say the least. No matter how much I hated him in the past I could not help but to fall in love with this man with scars and flaws. He's not the stereotypical perfect book boyfriend. He messes up and when he messes up he really messes up.

This story drew me in and did not let me go. It left me a sobbing, snot-running, puffy-eyed mess. Yes, it's a cliffhanger but you won't have to wait long because book two will be out soon! It's not a HEA...not yet at least. I am keeping my fingers crossed for these two in hopes that they can Salvage their love.

I absolutely LOVED this book. Words cannot express how much I loved this book. When I read this book, I didn't want it to end. I fell hard for these characters.

This book follows the relationship of Karmen and Brayden. Brayden tormented and tortured Karmen in high school. He made her life a living hell. The best thing that happened for Karmen was that they went to different colleges, never having to see each other again. That all changed when Brayden was no longer the famous football star he once was and walked into Karmen's office looking for a job at the radio station that she managed. Can people change? Years have passed, but is Brayden still the same cocky prick he once was?

I wanted to hate Brayden, I really did. But knowing that people make mistakes and everyone should be given a chance to redeem themselves, I was routing for Brayden. When Karmen begins to realize that Brayden may not be the same guy he was in high school, she begins to let her guard down. Somewhere along the way, Brayden begins to knock down the walls that Karmen has built.

Things my not always appear how they seem. Karmen has judged Brayden, but Brayden has a past as well, just like Karmen does. This is a true story of don't judge a book by its cover. As the book progressed, I realized that sometimes love isn't enough to salvage a relationship. Sometimes those we love have the power to hurt us the most. If Karmen allows Brayden in, will be hurt her again? Can her heart handle being shattered like it was so many years ago? Decisions need to me made when Karmen sees that Brayden has a problem. Karmen can't make him change. He has to want to do it for himself. My heart broke when Karmen chose to love herself more than she loved Brayden. I understood why she did what she did. I agree with her, Brayden gave her no choice. BUT, I can only pray that Brayden loves Karmen enough to fix it. To fix himself. I guess I will just have to wait and see in the next book.

description

Karmen Butler was bullied to the extreme in high school years. Coming from the poor side of town. Dressed in thrift store clothes with holes in them and usually to small or too big for her. Her mom a meth addict, her dad a drunk. Her life was hell. Save for her best friend, Tammy. Her main goal is to graduate and escape this hell hole town with a much deserved scholarship. Which is does.

Now years later she is forced to move back after her mother dies. She stays to take care of her dad who is dying. The story begins soon after his passing.

She has made something of herself. Still best friends with Tammy, she is now the manager of the radio station and her world is about to be tossed upside down when one of her high school tormentors, Brayden Stepehsns, the ex star QB, the ex NFLer is forced home after an early retirement. He is gold to the station and Karmen's boss is eager to have him.

Can Karmen work with a man she despises. The man, who as a boy did nothing as his pack of wolves destroyed her life.

Slowly, Brayden shows he may of changed. Sorry for the past. He, himself, battling demons of his past, his present and future. Secret demons no one knows.

As they become close, feeling escalate. Can Karmen forget the past? Or at least move past it? Can Brayden prove he has changed while still fighting his own demons and trying to keep them at bay?

This is a sweet read, in that it lets you absorb into the word that Tiffany Aleman weaved. There is a second book so you can figure out if there is a HEA in this one. Not. LOL. We are left with a major, MAJOR, development that has rocked the characters of this novel.

I can not wait for book two!!! Is it out yet? Hurry. I need it...yesterday!!!!

Wow, what a book!! I am in love with Brayden and Karmen!! This story read a bit like another bullying story (which I also loved), and truly turned out to be an enemies to friends to lovers, second chance romance. You cannot help but get sucked into the story from the get go, and find yourself rooting for these two very early on.
While my heart broke for Karmen and the torment that she suffered during her teenage years, I also found that the childhood that Brayden suffered was far worse. Even though it doesn't excuse the childish things that he put Karmen through, I could at least understand why he lashed out against the one person that he cared the most for.
Fast forward a decade or so later, and they are both grown up, and working on their way to forgiveness and recovery from the hurt that they seemed to case each other years before. This only leads to the perfect situation to allow them to fall in love, which they do- beautifully. Seriously, they have a beautiful, incredibly flawed, love.
Poor Brayden, who is literally drowning in his own demons, and is too proud to seek help, and Karmen, who is too scared of losing him to seek the help for him. I hated that part. To see that the beauty they have could so easily slip away because of Brayden's addiction, and his unwillingness to see how it was breaking Karmen, right before his eyes. It shattered me to see them ripped apart. So, yeah- beware, this does end on a cliffy- if that turns you off from books, you may want to wait for the next book. That said, you cannot miss out on this one!! So, even if you put it off until Book Two releases- do not dismiss it, do not let this amazing, beautiful story pass you by!!!
I'm giving this phenomenal book 5 glorious stars, and highly recommend it to everyone!!!

I can't wait until the next book. I just decided to start reading this book and I could not put it down.

Karmen is the manager of a radio station in her hometown. She never thought she would go back home because her childhood wasn't the best but after the death of her mother she came home for the burial. She decided to stay after she found out her dad was dying and hasn't left since he passed away. Enter Brayden Stephens, ex-football player, all around golden boy and Karmen's high school bully. He comes for a job at Karmen's radio station since his football career is over.

After a football injury Brayden returns home to try and get his life back on track. His home life isn't what you would expect and when he sees Karmen again he thinks he wont get the job because of how he treated her. Can they move on from the past?

I really liked this book. Karmen was just the nicest person. I mean after everything she has been through she was willing to be Brayden's friend. Brayden had so many issues. He has been hiding his feelings for Karmen for years and when he finally sees her again he wants to make things right but he has his own demons to fight. I just cant explain everything that went on in the book without spoilers but this was a really good story. There is a second book in this series and I usually avoid cliff hangers but this book was just so good I would give it a chance.

One of the first books I read in the indie world was Smoldering. Now, what seems like a lifetime later, I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Salvage.

Tiffany writes with an emotional depth that will trap you in place until you're done with the book. In fact, I'm very thankful her writing pulls readers in so quickly- I extended my workout because I couldn't stop reading. So I just kept walking.

Karmen, the heroine, survives teenage bullying and faces both her past and her future when she is reunited with Brayden, who is part of the reason for her pain. With unique chemistry and realistic but witty dialogue, the author builds their relationship well when I thought there was no way in hell she could pull it off given the circumstances surrounding Brayden and Karmen. Brayden fights his own demons, deep emotional scars that he must overcome...

This book ends in a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to read the next one. It's not a piss-you-off cliffy; its natural and intriguing!!

I loved this book because it was sexy but not all about the sex. I'm over the bullshit one-night-stand-turns-into-true-love stories. Thank you, Tiffany, for creating characters with not so perfect lives that we could grow to love. Characters with pasts that, unfortunately, so many can relate to.

I was so honored to receive this book as an ARC, and mad at myself for not reading it fast enough. This was my first book by Tiffany Aleman, and certainly not my last. She warned me what I was in for before sending me Salvage...she did not disappoint. Let me begin with this: Salvage is a very emotional read that takes on some serious real-life issues, it is not for the faint at heart. It's beautifully written with scenes that punch you right in your heart. I took some breaks in between and then I was determined to finish. This couple Karmen & Brayden have a mountain of issues to overcome, they have their past, their present, and what will be for their future. I'm rooting for them, and I can't wait to see what my author sister comes up with next.

This is my first book by Tiffany Aleman & it won't be my last. I loved the story of these two broken teenagers who meet up 7 years after high school & fall in love. But it's a tragic love affair. Tiffany Aleman handles tough subjects, like bullying & alcoholism, deftly. She writes with maturity, understanding & compassion. I'm looking forward to the next book, it is a must read.

Salvage Book One

I used to think the worst thing in life was end up alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel all alone
~Robin Wiliams

See, I should know that words mean something...but anyway I like that quotes a looooot. Xoxoxo.

for me, BIG NO!! Buuuut for Karmen??? I don't know if she's losing her mind or what? She absolutely has a fucking golden heart
Hidup Karmen benar-benar menyedihkan.

Ketika hidup Karmen berubah setelah ia menata kehidupannya yang mengerikan, ia harus bertemu dengan Brayden Stephens (the leader of the hell school life's Karmen). Brayden hanya ingin Karmen memaafkannya dan mungkin... kesempatan kedua (because he only fuckin' want Karmen. Bryaden loved Karmen since they were in high school. But, why did he bully Karmen for a long time?? The answer is YOU MUST READ THIS STORY!!)

What have you done to me, Tiffany? You make my feeling like angry tornado!
I'm lucky I don't cry as long as I read the story but I almost cry because "this" is make my heart broke into pieces...
I have to let you go before you annihilate what little there is left of my soul

Oh my Karmen, my Brayden. I feel the way they both felt. Hiks hiks

Hahaha. (but I'm serious, budd)

Overall, I can't wait SALVAGE BOOK TWO! Don't be disappoint me, Tiffany :D

5 Star Review by Natasha Gentile

I was completely flattered when I got an email from Tiffany asking if I would like to an arc of her new book. Of course I looked around the room to make sure I wasn’t being punked before I answered or rather shouted that it better not be a joke..it wasn’t’..

Stereotypical trailer trash. That’s how people saw me. I’m Karmen Butler, the girl everyone teased, tortured, pranked—bullied.

Imagine, if you can, being bullied your whole life. She didn’t know why it happened but it did. Nothing, absolutely nothing that she did made it go away.

She learned to keep her head down when ever she saw the ‘it’ crowd around. She vowed once she graduated high school she would be gone, out of there, with a one way ticket to anywhere but here. She said she was never going to go back. She learned that you should never say never.

Luck. That’s what was on his side. Brayden Stephens was on top of the world and the biggest prick of all.

The biggest bully of all Brayden Stephens pretended to have it all. He made sure that the spotlight wasn’t on him because if you shined it to long, you would see the hollowness of his life. The battle scars that he wears are hidden deep, but not that deep.

Then he lost it all. His vices took over and now he’s a washed-up has-been with a cocky smirk and arrogant attitude.

Imagine his surprise when he sit down for a job in sports radio broadcasting that Karmen would be the one on the other side of the desk. Shock and utter disbelief hits him right in the gut. It seems the ball is in her court now, and they say Karma isn’t going to get you!

He says he’s a changed man, but does a leopard change his spots. Only one way to find out. Take a chance on him. Take a chance that he isn’t that bully he was in high school.

Valued. That was how he made me feel. One night changed everything for us. In an instant I was lost to his touch, his voice. Everything about him captivated me.

Everything said tread lightly. I couldn’t turn away from him. I let him in, in more ways than one. Everyday he slowly showed me that he wasn’t the boy that made all those mistakes.

Glimpses of a love and life I’d never known before were all he had given me. Now he’s done it, the one thing he said he wouldn’t. He’s broken me. AGAIN.

The illusions of what we were got shattered. He did what he promised he wouldn’t. Nothing I could do could help chase the demons out of him. Her heart broken yet again, except now she doesn’t know if she can salvage it.

This is a first of two books. I loved the maturity of these characters. I loved how we saw them in flashbacks from the past so you really connected with what they were going through. I can’t wait for the next one!

Imagine, being bullied for your whole life. And not knowing why it happened but it surely did. Nothing that she did made it go away nothing.

Karmen has risen above her past and is now the manager of a radio station in her own home town. She never did think that she would come back hear to her home, her childhood wasn't the best at all but after the death of her mum she had to come back for the burial.

She gets yet another blow after she finds out that her dad is dying so she finds herself deciding to stay.

Brayden Stephens is an ex-football player, and the all around amazing golden boy, he is also one of Karmen's high school bullies. He comes to her radio station for a job now that his football career is all over.

After a nasty football injury Brayden has returned home to try and get his life back together and on the right track once again. His home life isn't what you would have ever expect and then he sees Karmen again he just knows he wont get the job because of how he once treated her.

Can they both move on from there past?

I liked this book i thought it brought forward so many of the real life issues so many of us have had to face and suffer through.

Karmen was just one of the most nicest people ever. even after everything she has had to fight through she opens up her heart and is willing to be Brayden's friend even after everything he put her through, she is so lovely like that.

Brayden wow he has so so many issues and demons he needs to work through. And yet he has this secret that he has been hiding, he has some true feelings for Karmen and has done for some years know, and know he finally sets eyes on her once again he knows and wants to make everything right and apologise for the mistakes he made.

I really want to say more but i just cant without giving away spoilers but this is a touching story. There is also a second book in this series.

Quotes that i loved

What a super book! How often have you wondered what THE man from high school turned into? I mean really, every school has that ONE guy that was the one everyone wanted to be around. The one that you would squee over when he passed you in the hall and nodded, or smiled, or thank you Jesus, actually said Hey!

Well, Karmen was the girl everyone picked on because she didn't have money. She had a drugged out mom, a drunk dad and Karmen had to do her best to feed and clothe herself, and well, priorities being what they are, she didn't have a lot to work with. So she was the one who was humiliated at every turn...had just one real friend...and was tortured repeatedly throughout junior (middle) and high school.

Going to college, falling in love, losing that love and moving back home because your only parent left is dying of cirrhosis isn't really what any of us wants, but it's what Karmens got now. Years after high school she's back in her home city, working at a radio station with her best friend, parentless. You know it, here comes Brayeden...yep, THAT boy, well now man and he turns Karmens world upside down.

The characters were great! I loved how deep Karmen and Brayden were. The storyline was SO well thought out. The writing was superb. You would never know this is Tiffany's first book and that she's indie, not some big published well know author...Well, as far as I'm concerned that's exactly what she is! Once this book got rolling I didn't want to put it down. The anticipation of what was going to happen next and how it was going to be resolved kept me on the edge of my seat. It was so wonderfully written and flowed so well, I can't say enough good about it. I can't wait for book 2 to see what happens from here. I'm impatiently waiting to see how it goes!

Not everyone has an ideal childhood, with the perfect family and the perfect high school experience. Foe Karmen this is her reality, growing up with addicts for parents it was all she could do to make sure she had clothes on her back and some food in her tummy. Her only friend was Tammy all other children torment her. The one who stands out most in her mind however is Brayden. He may not have been the master mind behind her torment but he is the one who left her scarred and looking over her shoulder. Brayden was the hometown hero, the rich kid who was a football star, yet no one not even his best friend Drew, really knows what his life entails. Appearances were everything back in high school so Brayden made sure to play his part. When his NFL career comes to an end and he goes back home he is lost. Karemn never thought she would end up in this town again yet family brought her back and she stuck around and made a life for herself. When she hears Brayden is back she is on edge and for good reason. When he shows up at her office looking for a job well lets just say they are both surprised by her reaction. While Brayden tries to mend fences and figure out his life Karmen is just trying to protect her heart and soul. When Brayden manages to break through her walls and her past experiences with him they both find a love that is all encompassing and out of this world. Yet when things turn bad they go bad fast and seem irrevocable. Can Brayden save the one thing in his life that seems to bring him peace? Or will he let his demons consume even that? Can Karmen stick by Brayden through his worst? Or will she be forced to leave him to salvage what is left of her heart and soul? A great read that will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and leave you begging for the next book in the series.

Life has been anything but beautiful for Karmen Butler. Bullied and humiliated throughout her entire time in high school, she was finally able to get away from her small hometown and the people that made her life a living hell. Back home after the death of her parents, Karmen has a career that she enjoys and the support of her best friend. Things are finally looking up, until he shows up.

Brayden Stephens seemed to have it all in high school. Rich and good-looking, he was a football star and BMOC. And, although he wasn't the one doing the bullying, he spent years standing on the sidelines, doing nothing while his friends tortured Karmen. Back in Reidsville after a career-ending injury, Brayden will be working for the one person that he knows must hate him.

I was so excited to have the opportunity to read SALVAGE by Tiffany Aleman. This is the kind of book that, even as it is gutting you, you cannot put down. Karmen has been through so much heartache, and is finally in a place that feels safe, both emotionally and physically. When Brayden reappears in the picture, she doesn't know whether she can trust him or not. But there is more to Brayden than anyone understood. While his life appeared to be perfect, he was also hiding his own personal hell, and is still dealing with the fallout all these years later.

This book is sexy, heartbreaking, and angsty, and I absolutely could not stop reading. SALVAGE is a solid 4-star book for me, and I am very much looking forward to Part 2.

Karmen has channeled every negative of her past into making a positive future for herself. She grew up as stereotypical trailer trash in her small hometown and was bullied mercilessly, so the first opportunity she had to get away, she took. But when her parents’ failing health brings her home, she must come face to face with her past, and the realization that things aren’t always what they seem. In a strange twist of fate, she finds Brayden, one of her childhood tormentors, relying on her for a new start. Will Karmen be able to move past the way she was treated and turn the other cheek?

I’m a fan of Aleman’s and Salvage is just further proof as to why. The book is well written and she manages to approach the difficult issues of alcoholism and bullying with a finesse that evokes strong emotions, from happiness to sadness. The small town dynamic coupled with the passage of time makes for a powerful story, where we witness the evolution of the main characters, but also see that there are those that no matter how much things change, the more they stay the same.

Told in the first person from a dual POV, Aleman manages to create a complex story that gives the reader insight into two individuals whose lives could not be more different to the outside world, but behind closed doors, look painfully similar. I look forward to reading the rest of the story.

Karmen grew up very poor, but didn't let that mentality enslave her.  She made something of herself.  Although her self confidence took a huge blow, she vowed to never feel like she did growing up.
Drew and his sidekick Brayden were the cause of most of Karmen's pain in high school. They say karma is a Bitch. And naturally what goes around comes around, but how many people get to be there when it does? Right not many!  However, Karmen does!
This story touched on a few serious topics one being bullying.  I was astonished at the lengths people would and did go to in order to inflict pain upon someone else. It  was so raw and gripping and true it was crazy.  Realistically, a lot of people have experienced this or know someone that has.
Along with Alcoholism, to which i have lost my FIL. This story hit very close to home in that regard. I must applaud Tiffany on capturing the mentality of each character and their imperfections beautifully. It was a true beautiful disaster and I loved every minute. It was real and deep and a page turner I didn't want to put down.
Is love enough?
Can you erase the past?
Do people really change and can they get past their demons? Or will they destroy everything that has changed?

Karmen is a great, strong character. She was bullied through high school and wanted nothing more than to flee her town. She got a break and went to college. When her mother passed she came home to help her father and she stayed. Her father passed away too but she still stayed in the town and has a job that she liked but it wasn't her dream.
Brayden stood by and watched as his friend Drew picked on and made fun of Karmen is high school. Brayden played in the NFL and was on the top of his world when injury sidelined him. He's back in town and is now working for Karmen.
Karmen is amazing. She hasn't forgotten about high school but she is willing to open herself up and give Brayden a second chance. There is more to Brayden then a spoiler rich kid. His childhood although was not as good as it seemed. Brayden and Karmen start off as co workers, then friends, then something more.
They have a lot of stuff to deal with. When tragedy strikes again, it might be to much for their fragile realtionship to handle. Salvage is a great emotional roller coaster of a read. I can't believe it ended leaving me hanging like that. I can't wait to read the next one.

This is my first time reading anything by Tiffany Aleman and the abundance of emotions this book put me through were unreal.
Karmen and Brayden are both broken soul's but for different reasons. During high school Karmen suffered at the hands of bullies and with a mother on drugs and a drunken father her home life was no better. Although Brayden wasn't always active in the bullying he stood by on the side lines as his friends made Karmen's life an absolute hell feeling his reputation was more important. Brayden had his own demons to contend with, been physically abused by his father. After graduation Karmen and Brayden took different paths, but what happens when their paths lead them back to where it all began. Can Brayden make Karmen see he's a changed man from his high school days, will Karmen find it in herself to forgive Brayden for everything she went through? Are Brayden's demons really in his past or will they ruin any sort of future he and Karmen could have?
5 stars are just not enough for this book on my opinion it just sucked me in from the beginning. I'm really hoping it's not to long before book 2 is released to see where Brayden and Karmen's story will go.

Five Star Read
I was given a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

Karmen Butler was the girl everyone teased and tortured in high school.
She left her shithole of a town with no intentions of looking back.

Brayden Stephens was the biggest prick of all time with his cocky smirks and arrogant attitude.

After one night changed everything between us I was captivated by him. So against my better judgement I let him in.

But he's broken me again and I'm left to deal with the aftermath.
Is their anything left to Salvage?

Once I started this book I read it one sitting,I was hooked from the first page.
Just from reading the first chapter I knew I was going to feel all kinds of emotions with this book.
Beautifully written its told in both Karmen and Braydens POV with some flashback scenes to Karmens high school days when she was basically bullied by Brayden and his best friend Drew. Drew was an a**hole thru the first couple of chapters but totally redeemed himselfnby the end of the book. So can't wait for book two to see how things are going to go for these two broken, damaged people who deserves a shot a happy life.
