Victoria Vane built her life around control. Eva Novak was hired to question everything.
As CEO of Penderva Digital, Victoria knows every number, every risk, and nearly every person inside the company. So when a surprise acquisition brings Vedora Group’s lead auditor into her office, Victoria expects scrutiny.
She does not expect Eva Novak.
Sharp, composed, and impossible to intimidate, Eva sees through Victoria’s defenses almost as quickly as she sees through Penderva Digital’s books. Their professional friction is immediate. So is the attraction neither woman can afford to acknowledge.
Then the audit uncovers falsified accounts, suspicious transfers, and a trail of evidence pointing directly at Victoria.
Someone inside Penderva Digital is manipulating the company’s systems. And they want Victoria to take the fall.
Forced to work together, Victoria and Eva follow the evidence deeper into a fraud that threatens careers, reputations, and the future of Penderva Digital itself. Late nights and closed-door investigations blur boundaries that were supposed to remain firmly in place until trust becomes impossible to separate from desire.
But getting too close to Eva may be the most dangerous risk Victoria has ever taken.
Calculated Risk is an adult sapphic romantic suspense novel featuring a slow-burn CEO/auditor romance, corporate intrigue, high-stakes investigation, powerful women, open-door intimacy, and a happily-ever-after.
Some risks can be calculated. Others have to be taken.
This was my first time reading a book by Lilly Alexander, and what a fantastic first impression! The author reached out, hoping I'd enjoy it, and she was absolutely right!
There's something I will always love about sapphic stories featuring two powerful, confident women who are strong not only physically but mentally, too. I loved seeing two FMCs who could stand their ground, challenge each other, and hold their own rather than having everything come easily to them.
One of my favourite things about this story was that, from their very first interaction to the very end, these two didn't have a perfectly smooth, lust-filled love story. They had their disagreements, their moments of tension, and times when neither was willing to back down. But even through all of that, I could feel the chemistry between them, and I absolutely loved every minute of it! The tension made their dynamic even more enjoyable to read.
I also really appreciated the attention to detail Lilly put into describing the workplace environment and explaining how everything worked within the industry. It added so much to the reading experience and made the setting feel well-developed and believable, rather than simply serving as a backdrop for the romance. Combined with the suspense, it helped make the story feel engaging and gave it so much more depth than your typical workplace romance.
Speaking of suspense, I loved how much focus it had throughout the story! It kept me entertained, engaged, and wanting to know what would happen next. Having that extra layer of intrigue alongside the developing relationship between the FMCs made this such an enjoyable read.
Overall, this was such a great introduction to Lilly Alexander's writing, and I'm so glad she reached out to me about this one! If this book is anything to go by, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for her future releases because I will absolutely be reading them.
