Rate this book
Lethal in Love is a steamy romantic suspense about an instinct-driven detective and a sexy, scoop-hungry reporter, both on the hunt for a sadistic killer.

Jayda Thomasz is a sassy homicide detective who never lets her emotions get in the way of a case. So when a serial killer re-emerges after 25 years, the last thing she expects is to catch herself fantasising over the hot, smooth-talking stranger who crosses the path of her investigation.

Seth Friedin is a reporter chasing the story that'll make his career. When he enters the world of swinging for research, he never imagines he'll be distracted by a hard-talking female detective whose kiss plagues his mind long after she's gone.

Past experience has shown Jayda that reporters are ruthless and unscrupulous. But when the murders get personal, will she make a deal with the devil to catch the killer? How far will she and Seth have to go? And do you ever really know who you can trust?

I read the first installment of Lethal in Love a couple of months ago and gave it an average rating. I was so hoping the second installment would be an improvement, but unfortunately it didn't blow me away either.

Jayda and Seth are working together now, trying to put pieces of the puzzle together so that they can work out who the killer is. That's if they can manage to keep their pants on around each other that is. Jayda and Seth realise that the killer might know Jayda and that they are all in danger. Cue suspenseful scenes, end on climax for number 3...

Ok the biggest problem I have with this installment is the total unbelievably of one aspect of their predicament... HER SISTER WAS JUST MURDERED!!! Now I don't have a sister, but I imagine that if I did, and they were murdered, the absolute last thing I would be thinking about the next morning is how unbelievably hot the guy in my kitchen making me bacon and eggs looks in his shirt with the top buttons undone... It just didn't capture her grief at all, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I was rolling my eyes and I didn't know if I could go on...

However, if I ignored this extremely bothersome detail, I began to enjoy the story. The characters pasts were delved into more, Seth's relationship with his parents, Jayda's relationship with her father and her father's past in the previous investigation. And it definitely left you wondering who the killer was, could it be someone in Jayda's life already? Her next door neighbour? Something to do with her father?

This attraction between the characters is still not particularly believable. Their silly conversations and supposedly sexy remarks towards each other that leaves them hot around the collar made me extremely cold. I just don't believe the chemistry.

Thankfully it was slightly more suspenseful than the first. Slightly...

Again, I'm not sold on this installment thing. I think I would have probably read the whole thing if it was in a novel, now I'm not sure if I am interested enough to go for the third, even though I am now curious to see who the killer is... I think I will hang my hat here.

Would I recommend it?

Probably not. Too good for 2 stars but not good enough for 3...

Thanks to Random House via Netgalley for a copy of this installment in exchange for an honest review.

*Reviewing episodes 1-6 all together

Right from the start there was something about this series that hooked me. It was a little different than most shorts I've read - this one a being a mystery, rather than the typical erotic/good girl bad guy/poor girl rich guy kinda things.

It was easy to read. I found it generally light & fun, as well as deeply emotional at various points throughout. The story line was good, not too far fetched, & also not blindingly obvious as to what's going to happen next.

The author did a fantastic job at keeping the killers identity hidden until the very end. Every time there were clues to who the killer was, I thought I had it figured out, then the next one would come & I'd move onto the next person on the list. But I never did get it right, only figuring it out with the final details at the very last moment before actually being revealed to the reader.

I would most definitely be interested in any future publications from this author.

Lethal In Love: Episode 2 picks up right where Episode 1 left off; which is just as well really, because the wait in between was killing me!

Jayda Thomasz is still reeling from the events of episode 1, and naturally so as the Night Terror has changed tactics and is making this chase personal. Lucky for Jayda, however is that Seth Friedin is there to pick up the pieces and hold her together as her world disappears before her very eyes.

There are some really cute scenes between Jayda and Seth in this episode that not only give us a closer look at the characters, but their proves their chemistry is more than just a lustful reaction to first appearances. Jayda has literally had her world ripped out from under her and after being kicked off the Night Terror case is a loose canon, one that could possibly only be contained and talked down by Seth's cool and calming presence. Despite her distrust and scepticism towards Seth, this episode proves just how stubborn Jayda is and how much she needs to Seth to rely on. Seth, on the other hand rises to the challenge and proves that he is not only capable, but a strong and caring partner and perhaps the only match for Jayda's whit and stubborn streak.

There is so much I want to say about this episode of Lethal In Love, but I'm held back for fear of giving too much of the story away. What I can say, however, is that Michelle Somers does not disappoint in the second edition of Lethal In Love, in fact if anything she has proven just how good she is by amping up the ante and raising the stakes and tension (both chemistry wise between Jayda and Seth AND suspense wise with the Night Terror) to a whole new level. What's more, she's proven herself to be the Queen of Suspense and Cliffhangers with the way she signs this instalment off!

Once again I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation of the story and the plot and characters. The narrative itself read effortless and once again I found myself racing towards the last few lines well before I was ready to seen the episode end.

If you haven't read a lot of romantic suspense or aren't entirely convinced that this is the genre for you, I highly recommend you pick up the first episode (and the second) of this serial just to try it out. The bite size format makes it a quick read without sacrificing quality writing, and the serial format means we know there is more to read (should you like it) without being daunted by the size and commitment of a full length novel. You never know, Somers might have you converted before you know it!

Jayda struggles with her family tragedy and finds an ally in Seth who helps her with her quest to track down the Night Terror Killer.

Jayda is a detective and a feisty redhead. When the Night Terror Killer starts killing again after a period of 25 years he made things personal. He's determined to break Jayda and to hurt her as much as he can. Jayda's father was on the case many years ago, but his team failed to catch the murderer. Now that he is back he is still using his same MO. Will he slip up this time, so they can finally put this serial killer behind bars?

This series pulls you in from the very first page. After I finished episode 2 I was almost begging for just one more page so I could find out more. You can compare Lethal in Love with your favorite criminal TV show. When you put it on you'll end up watching the whole first season in one sitting. This series feels exactly the same, it's like you're reading real episodes. I am hooked and I won't stop reading until the very last episode. If there is one detective who can bring this brutal killer down I believe it will be Jayda.

When you get this series my advice to you will be to curl up on your favorite reading spot, make sure you won't be disturbed and have your snacks within arm's length because you don't want to stop reading until the very last line.

What a gripping story! I don’t read a lot of romantic suspense books as I usually find they sway too much to one side of the genre, but Michelle Somers has balanced the romance and the suspense perfectly.

This thrilling story about a gutsy homicide detective heroine and journalist hero trying to prove himself hit all the right buttons for me. Their romance sizzles (as do the love scenes) and the growth of their relationship is realistic and worth the wait, which is sure to satisfy the most critical romance reader.

The crime/suspense thread of this story is crafted so well I was ‘on the edge of my seat’ the whole way through trying to figure out who the serial killer could be. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Lethal in Love as a feature film one day.

I am blown away by the writing, characters and plot of this fabulous story and can’t wait to read more from this author.

PS: Let it be noted that I’m reviewing Lethal in Love by Michelle Somers episodes 1-6 as one.

Lethal in Love by Michelle Somers is one of the most thrilling romantic suspense’s I’ve read in the past month. Each episode is perfectly written, the conflict is well drawn out and the characters deliver with a punch. Great writing and a gripping mystery will rivet you until the last episode. Jayda Thomasz is terrific. Seth Frieden is the perfect nemesis to Jayda and the serial killer The Night Terror gives you the chills. Overall, Lethal in Love episodes 1-6 by Michelle Somers is perfect. The characters, the drama, the tension, the nail-biting, edge of your seat suspense and Ms. Somers edgy writing style will leave you breathlessly satisfied!

Edge of my seat....this story is so captivating. I can't wait for Episode 3. Loving the thought put into each Character's mind set, especially the killers scary nature and the growing friendship/ lust between Jayda and Seth.

Really enjoyed episode 2 of Lethal In Love, which is maybe more suspenseful than episode 1. Enjoying the tension between the main characters, Jayda and Seth, and trying to work out who the killer might be. But it does leave you hanging!

I read episodes 2 and 3 all at once, which were well-written, thoroughly engaging, and an exercise in frustration.

Seth and Jayda push on with their investigation and this uneasy alliance, already fraught with sexual tension and a push-pull game that gets tiring quickly, is still up in the air by the time episode 3 ends. Books 2 and 3 are red-herrings in disguise, coupled with tempting morsels that the author throws out as hints that are supposed to eventually help assemble the jigsaw.

Unfortunately, a lot of the events feel like unnecessary filler that quite noticeably slows the pace of the action, even if it provides insight into both Seth and Jayda’s characters, who, at times, behave like hormonally-driven teenagers who can’t tell the difference between arse and head.

Prejudiced, obstinate and thoughtless in a partnership which she expects to get more than she gives, I found myself liking Jayda less and less - the long, introspective paragraphs just made her indecisive and odiously rude - as she behaves exactly the opposite of what I expect a solid detective to be. Demanding honesty and trust when she cannot even be bothered give her own, it’s difficult to imagine her rising in my estimation without some grand gestures I’d expect her to make in the course of this series. Seth, on the other hand, seems to grow in stature, his only crime perhaps being the infatuation with Jayda that pussy-whips him into meekly shouldering her unacceptable behaviour that he should have called her out on a long time ago. I can only hope for a change in this dynamic by the time the next book rolls around and yes, I’m just as eager as I’d been from episode 1 for it to all come to a head.
