The nephew picked out a book from our Little Golden Book library to read. He was in the mood for a beginning book. He was sweet tonight and cuddly. It was nice.

Pets for Peter is a beginning book about picking out a pet. Peter goes through all kinds of crazy pets before rejecting a kitten and going with a puppy. The nephew and I discussed what we would get. At first the nephew wanted a kitten because his dad is allergic, we can’t have a cat. Then he decided to supersize and he wanted the Lion. Not me, I said. I would take the peacock. We could sing to each other every evening. (If you missed the story, in high school we lived by a farm with peacocks and I would roll my window down as I drive by and I would sing opera out the window and the birds would sing back to me. My family had great fun with this.)

It’s a sweet enough story for young kids or kids wanting a different kind of book. The nephew gave this 3 stars. He said he liked it, but it wasn’t all that exciting.

This is cute, but I feel like I don't understand why Peter turned down some of the pets. Some are explained, others he simply says he doesn't want them, but others he doesn't even say that about. So eh brings up a pet (or tries it out or whatever) and then next thing you know, he's trying out a different one. I don't know, it just made me stop and wonder if I missed something, which kind of interrupts the book.
