Dark Alpha's Claim is a quick paranormal novella which lays the foundation for Donna Grant's new paranormal series.Even though I've heard that this one,might be a spin-off from this author's previous series,I found no difficulty in connecting with all the characters or their pasts,in fact I enjoyed reading about everyone of them.
Even though this PR is a series,there is NO CLIFFHANGERyou guys! Each book revolves around individual couples..Jordyn and Baylon,the leads of this book are both,very easy to love.Even though I didn't find their chemistry to be explosive or wildly memorable,I still found a way to connect with the characters,just enough to be glad that the couple got their happy ending in the end. :)
Will I be continuing the series?
Defiantly looking forward to Book 2 of this series :) I enjoyed both the author's writing style and all the secondary characters from the book as well.
Who would I recommend this series to?
All PR lovers especially if your into Fae paranormals.

4 - "We stand together." Stars!
I really like Donna Grants' writing style, having read some of her Dark Kings series already it was good to get involved at the very beginning of the new Reaper series.
It is immediately clear that this series crosses over with the Dark Kings series, and I must admit some of the references early on left me with a bit of a ’Dazed & Confused’ look on my face after having only read a portion of that series. But do not let this deter you, I carried on and once the story between Baylon and Jordyn really got going, the plot does move over to the Reapers, and the fact that someone is trying to wipe out the team and draw Death out into the open.
This book is told from several points of view, you have Cael the leader of the Reapers, along with Fintan, Talin, Kyran and Eoghan battling alongside him and Baylon for most of the book. Daire is also mentioned but not in the picture so much. This makes me happy though as I am expecting each of the above to find their women as the series progresses, and the team try to stop the mass murder of all the Half-Fae humans.
He was back. And he was going to unleash hell.
Plenty of sexy-times occur between our couple, whilst fighting evil, and although a relatively short book, a lot happens in relation to the general plot and secondary character development. I am excited to see where the author takes us, and not too long to wait either as Dark Alphas Embrace is due in February 2016.

Now, that was one action packed read and I freaking loved it! Aside from that, we also got our romance story with a strong heroine and a hero, who would do anything to keep her safe and loved.
As already said in the blurb, this book is the first in an exclusive new series that I definitely plan to continue reading. But I feel it can also be read as a stand alone, as long as it doesn't bother you that the bad guy and the warriors will continue to fight for the greater good.
It all starts with a past grudge towards Death aka. Erith, the Reapers boss, and the current Reapers. After getting a new order from Death that entails the killing of all half-Fae, the Reapers are left confused and not quite sure, if the fulfilment of such order is the right thing to do. The first problem is that disobedience is punished by death and the second is that Baylon has fallen for Jordyn, who guess what, is a half-Fae.
For such a short read there is a lot going on. Most of all I enjoyed seeing Baylon and Jordyn's jouney to find their happiness.
I adored Baylon, from he moment he sees Jordyn he knows she's special and becomes (stalkerish) protective of her. After saving her from a Dark Fae attack they become almost inseparable and their chemistry is off the charts, which results in some seriously hot scenes. ;)
Jordyn is so far probably one of the the stronges heroines I've ever read. I loved how she never gave up and tried to protect the people she came to love.
Also, the secondary characters were a good addition to this story and I can't wait to read their stories.

Her smile was soft and glorious. "That was the perfect response."
"It's the truth."
Dark Aplha's Claim is for sure a read I'd recommend. :)

2 Apathetic Stars
Baylon is a Reaper – his job is to judge and execute the evil dark Fae, and one rule he and his fellow Reaper’s have sworn to keep is that they will not have any romantic/personal entanglements, but from the moment he sees human Jordyn, who happens to be a half-breed Fae and human, that rule flies out the window. Death has ordered Baylon and his fellow Reapers to kill all ‘half-breeds’ so trouble is ahead for Jordyn and Baylon. Jordyn and Baylon’s attraction is an instant one, but one I couldn’t find myself buying into at all.
Fae, Reapers, a war between dark and light, and a strong dash of romance – when I saw the blurb of this book, I found myself bouncing a little in my seat. However, the bouncing was a prelude to some disappointment, whilst this book wasn’t terrible, I wasn’t riveted, I wanted to be entranced by the characters and the world the author had built, even a little, but I wasn’t. I found it was easy to put the book down and forget about the story and main characters – whose names are already fading from my mind.

In this brand new series, Donna Grant uses what she has built in previous series as a platform for this new series featuring Reapers. Reapers are men who are under orders from Death. In this particular book, Baylon is tasked with killing Fae who have done despicable things. By doing this, he has forfeited a life of happiness for himself. He has no familial ties. The only closest thing he has is his small brotherhood of other Reapers.
As always, Grant creates a pretty substantial number of character who I can only assume will get their own books. You can already see her building their characters, hinting at certain personality traits that many readers will find intriguing.
What I enjoyed the most about the series is also something that I think could potentially make other readers not like this. As I mentioned earlier, Grant takes some of the world from her other series and places bits and pieces of that into this one. For long-time readers of Grant’s books you’ll get plenty of moments that refer to characters from the Dark Kings series and even some of the Dark Warriors. So despite this being a new series about Reapers, the dragons and fae do still exist in this world, creating a much more vast and complex atmosphere.
The only problem with that is when new readers come in and are instantly bombarded with characters that they aren’t familiar with. With the bunch of Reapers that first introduced here, plus the various mentions of several past characters in other series, it can be a lot to handle for a reader. And when you add in the romance and the worldbuilding, I think it can potentially cause some confusion.
However, Grant still delivers a fun-filled story brimming with mischief and magic. Her greatest strength lies in her worldbuilding and I cannot wait to see where the Reapers will take readers next!

The beginning was a little confusing for me. I kept checking if this really was the first book in the series. It felt like I was missing something between the characters. I probably would of had a better grasp if I read the other series. But once I understood the paranormal world I was able to enjoy the story.
Get ready for some insta love. Man sees woman. Man must have woman. The forbidden relationship between Jordyn and Baylon had some steamy moments. Bayton is your protective soldier that cannot control his urges when it comes to Jordyn. He is only allowed to have one night with her, but he is willing to risk everything for more time with her. I can't wait to read about the other Reapers.

Just like Beauty and the Beast, Dark Alpha’s Claim’s Jordyn loves books…how could you not love that…
Baylon is a Reaper in Erith’s, AKA Death, service. His job, be the judge, jury and executioner of the evil dark Fae.
When a command comes down for the Reapers to kill all the human – fae half breeds, they baulk. But Baylon seems to baulk the most. When he discovers one, Jordyn, he can’t seem to stay away from her. Let us just say their chemistry is combustible.
In an attempt to protector her, he disregards Erith’s rules…which could mean his death.
Together, they discover a devastating plot with the Dark Fae at its core.
The story has a good pace with us not waiting long for the couple to connect. Boy, do they connect.
Jordyn, in my opinion, steals the show. She is, absolutely, weaker than all around her but is willing to give it all to protect those she loves.
I really enjoyed the story, but that essential spark that makes you a participant and not just a by-stander wasn’t there for me.
I'm sure this book and series is going to thrill Donna Grant’s paranormal fans. If you loved the Dragon Kings you should definitely check out Dark Alpha's Claim.

Baylon and Jordyn's book. Finally I get this story form the beginning! I'm so bad about starting with book one, but I'm here now and I'm loving it. I do highly recommend starting at book one if you haven't dived into this world yet. While each book focuses on one couple, it does follow a timeline for the overall series. It also coincides with another series with the Dragon Kings. If you want to do this up right, read each series by release dates. It's totally worth it!

I'm kicking myself in the butt for not getting to this series sooner. It is intermingled with the Dark Kings series which I'm totally caught up on, so reading Dark Alpha's Claim shot me back a few Dark King books.
It is definitely possible to jump in and start The Reapers on its' own. However, since it is intermingled with the Dark Kings, there are a lot of references to the Dragons and what is happening in their world. I know I found it hard when I first started reading the Dark Kings, not knowing it was a spin-off of Grant's Warriors series. The character overlap had me struggling the first few books trying to figure out who certain people were. I think that if someone tries to jump into The Reapers, they may find the same kind of troubles.
I've been curious about the Reapers since the first one was mentioned that we thought was following Rhi. They are this group that are under Death's direction and all the Fae are terrified of them. There are many rules that the Reapers must live by. Of course, one of them would be that they could never have a relationship. In fact, a past Reaper has believed to been put to death after revolting when Death killed his lover. Needless to say, this plays a big part in the relationship between Baylon and Jordyn.
Besides the Reapers, the book seems to focus on half fae. I had never thought of that possibility before since Dark Fae do not leave survivors of their sexual encounters and Light Fae can only have sex with a human once. But I guess once is enough, or some Dark Fae are not as Dark as they would like to appear. Either way, these half fae seem to be a focus for the group. Of course, Jordyn is one of those half fae, so does have some qualities of the Fae.
Dark Alpha's Claim was a short read with a lot of action, establishing the job of a Reaper with some peppering of romance. It was definitely insta-love, but the threat of what that love could do to each of them is a heavy cloud over their heads. We are introduced to a good group of characters and I'm excited for each one's story. Dark Alpha’s Claim is the beginning of a new spin-off series of Donna Grant’s Dragon King series and while I found it ridiculous how fast Baylon and Jordyn fell in love and I’m normally not really into fae, this story was entertaining to read. Also though it’s a spin-off series I’m pretty sure you can read it without ever reading the Dragon King series. I personally only read one book from that series and I had no problems understanding Dark Alpha’s Claim.
The two main characters, Baylon and Jordyn, were easy to like as well as the other Reapers. Baylon is the cool, protective reaper and Jordyn is the damsel-in-distress, who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. Also she liked books. And any character that loves book is my kind of character.
Regarding the other reapers I’m especially curious about Eoghan and hope he get his own story soon, but I want everyone to have his story. They deserve it.
The one thing I am kind of disappointed about is that the book was soo short. I think a full lengthed book would have worked as good as it did in this length. ;) Also the cover… not my favourite cover :/
Anyway, Dark Alpha’s Claim will definitely not be the last book of the series I’m going to read.

This is my first Donna Grant book and I'm kicking myself I didn't discover her books sooner. This is the first book in a spinoff to the spinoff to the original?... and since I haven't read any of the other series (which at least one is still ongoing), fortunately I did not have any problem following along. If anything I wish the book was longer as I loved it and immediately felt immersed into this world. Obviously this is the beginning of a new group within the same world as her other series and the last page. The characters for the future books were introduced enough that I'm anxious to read their stories. Overall, I'm ready to go into Donna Grant's backlist and start to catch up. Many thanks to St. Martin's Press (via NetGalley) for providing a copy of this book for my honest review.

As a fan of paranormal romance I always get really excited when something different comes out. Don't get me wrong, I love shifters and vampires as much as the next girl, but I love that when it comes to paranormal you can always expect to find something that hasn't been overdone... Like Reapers, for example.
Dark Alpha's Claim is the first book in a new series that revolves around a group of Fae called the Reapers. As assassins that carry out Death's bidding, Reapers are forbidden from having relationships and falling in love. They're supposed to rely on their brotherhood and no one else... So what happens when a Reaper falls in love? Death comes a knocking and she is not happy.

We're left with a cliffy at the end regarding the baddies and I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series to see how it all plays out... Not to mention watching the rest of the Reapers fall in love and get their HEA.

I have to just say it, Donna Grant is brilliant. She began a series about Warriors and Druids that took place about 400 years ago (Dark Sword). Slowly she has evolved it to a second (Dark Warriors), then third (Dark Kings) now fourth spin off. And she has done it seamlessly.
The Reapers are mentioned in the past two Dark Kings books as fairy tales of the fae (yes it seems that they too have fairy tales), the boogeymen that are used to keep Fae children in line. Only they aren't a fairy tale and they aren't the boogeyman.. but they are directed to keep the Fae in line. They demand balance and when a fae does evil, they are destroyed. No judge, no jury just instant death.
Each Reaper has promised his life to Death, the person, not the existence. They serve Death. They have been sent to earth to determine who needs to be destroyed. Only this time, Death has issued a command they can't live with. Destroy all of humans with Fae blood in them. The question is, did Death really issue that command? And if she didn't, who did? Who knows that The Reapers are real? Who knows that Death commands them? Scary...
Amid all of that turmoil one reaper has found a human woman he can not live without. A woman he is forsworn to ignore. He has promised his life to Death and no woman, especially a human woman can be a part of his life..

This story is set in the same time frame as the Dark Kings series but is focused on a different sort of fantasy element, the Reapers. The Reapers are the Fae equivalent to the Boogie Man but are very real. They are faceless to the Fae society but follow Death's orders to be the judge and jury of Fae who get out of hand and commit crimes. 4 darkly fascinating stars is what I give Dark Alpha's Claim.
Baylon is such a great character. He's such a good guy and takes his position very seriously. He struggles with what he should and shouldn't do when an unexpected order is given to them stating to kill the humans mixed with Fae blood. It doesn't add up in his mind and his resolve to ignore that order only becomes stronger when he crosses paths with Jordyn. He's fascinated by her to the point of feeling compelled to touch her, own her, and posses her even though he knows he shouldn't.
Jordyn can't help but want to dig deeper into faerie lore since she's noticed the red eyes of certain people as well as remembering the stories saying she has Fae blood in her. Her research and need to really know leads her right into harm's way until Baylon comes to her aid. She's aware he is different and he admits he is a Fae. She feels the pull to him, to feel him, to have him overtake her. Of course, the two eventually give it one night that they both know won't be enough.
As the story continues to move forward, the relationship between Jordyn and Baylon becomes more complicated and dangerous. The fight to figure out what the name of their enemy and to destroy said enemy pulls Jordyn deeper into the world Baylon desperately wants to keep her away from. He knows if Death gets wind of their feelings that the end is absolute. In the end, love proves to be a force to be reckoned with, so powerful that even Death can't deny ignore it any longer.

Because then it would have saved me some time. Maybe it was because the book was so short that there was no time for character development or world building or anything because nothing about it enticed me.
Not the main heroine who might as well have been cut out of cupboard.
Not even the supposedly "mouth-wateringly gorgeous, heart-stoppingly magnificent" love interest made me want to inch my panties down a little bit. I don't think I would have used any of my fingers for him ( ;) )
I didn't hate the book that much to be honest but only because I was feeling so apathetic about it. I genuinely didn't care what happened or if they got together. It was all sort of meh to me. Everything was meh. Nothing stood out.

Dark Alpha’s Claim is a fiery hot urban fantasy romance. To be honest I have no idea where to categorize this but the setting feels very fantasy although the connecting series has dragons but it has a strong “fae” presence in it so that is definitely fantasy. And it has a similar setting to that of “KMM Fever Series”. But the romance is highly present which I love. I do enjoy a urban fantasy setting. I also hadn’t realized how SHORT these books are and I am kinda sad about it haha once I read this one I am now realizing I should have read the Dark Kings fully before jumping into this one. Because while I didn’t see much of the Dark Kings, they were referred to and we do have some interaction and I have a feeling we will see much more of them as I delve deeper in the series so I am highly debating if I should finish the Dark Kings. If any of you have read both series, let me know if I should continue or go back and finish up the Dark Kings.
I am really fascinated with how Donna Grant wrote this book and I was hooked from the beginning and what a quick fun read this turned out to be. Its only 150 pages, so the romance builds quickly, its one of those forbidden themes. The hero is a reaper and is forbidden to have any intimate romantic relationship, and his job is to hunt evil dark fae. But he and Jordyn quickly fall for each other in one night (and yes its instant love) but they can’t be together or they could both die. But we see them both go on a journey as our heroine is being hunted by Dark Fae, and her only hope of survival is by standing with the reapers.
I absolutely adored how the plot developed and it kept me on the edge all the way through. I was so intrigued by how this author would implement this one and seeing how she would develop this story and while it happened quickly, I became so invested with these characters. The combination of all the elements and seeing how this one really sets the stage for all the others was such a treat to read. I really just wanted more and more of this one and seeing how this wrapped up but also gave you a teaser of what was to come has me eager to read more into this fantastical world that Donna Grant has built.

2⭐️ This book was boring as hell. Nothing intrigued me. I just refused to be defeated by this book. The synopsis was misleading. Death makes like… 2 appearances in this whole book and quite frankly she’s my favorite character smh. Also, for a FMC who is being threatened with murder for knowing something that she shouldn’t know that wasn’t even her fault, she is extremely calm and OK with helping these guys who are willing to end her life. So she dies if she doesn’t help by the hands of the guys trying to kill her because she’s half human or she dies by the hands of the reapers because she is half fae and was told about the reapers( whom other fae aren’t supposed to know about but humans can). She chooses to help the reapers who ADMITTED they had to kill her because she is fae and knows about them. But she got dicked down one time and is ready to die and help the guys who are meant to kill her. That’s stupid. This book was stupid. Even the fact that humans get to be told about the reapers but fae can’t. Most humans can’t tell who is fae and who isn’t so chances are they will accidentally let it slip to a fae and the word will spread. The last maybe 20% was the most interesting part and even that had a stupid ending. Two stars because I’m not offended. Just bored.

So far, the introduction of this series is pretty good. I find the world verse concept is pretty interesting and I would probably start the others soon.
I think the thing that I enjoyed most here are the characters that I find truly interesting.
I'm no sure if I enjoyed the insta-love kind of romance so far as well as the plot that I find superficial and shallow? The writing is good though. So yeah, that's it so far. 3.5 ⭐️

Donna Grant has a new series that is thus far loosely tied into her magical Scotland books that we all love so much. The Reapers have been mentioned in her most recent Dark Kings book Passion Ignites. Her Reapers are watching both the Dragons and Warriors, but at this time they are not interacting or working together.
The Reapers consist of both Light and Dark Fae. These seven men have been recruited by Death to be judge, jury, and executioner of the Fae. They exist only to their small group. They are myth, legends, and tales told to the Fae to keep them in line. No one should know of their existence until it is time for them to mete out their brand of justice. Their orders come directly from Death.
Readers enter this new world as Cael (the Reaper leader) is giving the newest assignment to his men. In an unprecedented event every man questions Death’s wishes. Never one to question Death all the men embark on this assignment yet they can’t seem to follow through. While none of them follow through Baylon does the extreme opposite and actually defies one of Death’s rules, repeatedly.
Since Dark Alpha’s Claim is a new book in a new series readers are introduced to a group of new characters that live by a whole new set of rules. This is done is in 163 pages. Fans of the Dragon Kings series will be overjoyed to see this spin-off series begin. Yes this motley crew are a mixture of both light and dark Fae but with a little extra. Ok it's a lot extra as they serve Death and hunt down all the Fae that try to defy the natural balance.
Into this world is thrust Jordyn a human woman with no idea that she possesses Fae blood. She's always been obsessed by the legends of the fair folk but her life is about to get completely turned around.
Baylon is a Reaper who spots a lovely mortal being stalked by dark Fae. His intervention has what could be huge repercussions as there's so much chemistry between the couple it just can't be ignored. Reaper's are forbidden more than one night with a human as past history has shown attachments can have disastrous consequences. Yet the passion between them is visceral but danger is about to come knocking on Jordyn's door!
Ok this couple and the phrase "hammer and tongs" comes to mind because they are literally unable to keep their hands off each other right from the start! I did like Jordyn as she understands Baylon cannot remain but refuses to let that fact get between them. In fact it's her bravery that seemed at times to drive the story. Yes there's a villain with nefarious plans for the Reaper's but I just didn't connect with Baylon as much as I'd hoped. Nevertheless its a good start to this new series with interesting characters and as it seems to be continuing the plots from the Dragon Kings and the Warriors that I love so I will happily seek out the next book

I like the world building and how these Death and her 7 Reapers wield their magic. It was an easy read nothing complicate for the plot and the story was quite unique. Each character held mystery background that surely be explore in their own story and I'm so excited to read the rest of the Reapers in the future.
The only downside was that there were characters and bits and pieces of stories that surely connected or related to her other series which made it hard for me, who have never read her other books before, to connect and follow through. It would be more enjoyable for me if I were familiar with Donna Grant's other series. Overall this is a good entertaining read especially if you are Donna Grant's fan.

Baylon is a reaper and Jordyn is a half fae. He's been sent to kill all half fae but the order doesn't sit well with he and his comrades. He decides he'd much rather protect Jordyn and they grow closer as they try to figure out what is going on with the dark fey. I read one other book in the series this spins off and it all ties in really well. I'm glad to see a little perspective on the mysterious reapers and from the stipulation that is placed upon them regarding the future, I can tell there are many more stories to come. Looking forward to it. Oh and for goodness sakes, tell me we find out about Rhi's whole mystery soon because the suspense is killing me!

I like the premise for this book, the reapers that were fae now working for death, very cool. I didn't however like the insta-love, and I can be a fan of it but thus was over the top for me. I actually found myself skipping the sex it was so excessive. The title confused me Dark Alpha's Claim, who's the dark alpha? Not Baylon (the lead male) maybe the bad guy Bran or Erith (death) but why that title? Confusing for me. I think I liked Cael and Eriths chemistry more that Jordyn and Baylon.

This book was ok but the story really didn’t do much for me.
There are a few special moments. For example:
Heroine: I’m pretty sure I’m part fey, I’ve been told I have fey blood all my life, I’ve been obsessed with the fey and can’t stop trying to find out more about them.
Hero: I don’t know how to tell you this, but here goes. You’re half fey.
Heroine: OMFG NO!!! REALLY?!?
Also, the hero and heroine’s meeting is very love at first sight, which just makes their relationship seem more like lust than love.
