After Andy Perth stands up for her in class, Ornelia Jones (O.J.) takes it upon herself to befriend the reluctant man through any means necessary. Wanting to save him, she dives head first into his past, his band and the meaning of the healed scars on his wrist. Unable to stop her attraction to the man with the indescribable blue eyes, O.J. gets pulled into her own family history and learns more about herself than she ever wanted. The real question remains as to who is saving who?
Wow...O.J...Ornelia Jones...this book will blow you away ...I don't know if this is this author's first book..she knocked it out of the park..Ornelia is a force to reckon with...she is so in denial about self love, unconditional love of a parent, love of guy....she masks it expertly by being everyone's cheering squad but her own...deep seeded pain about not knowing her birth father...so she tries to be friends with everyone she meets...using sex as a coping mechanism...Andy Perth enters her life...he carries deeper pain and wears it like a second skin...he's dark, numb, emo, keeps himself from everyone..he cuts himself to feel pain..until OJ....these two are the complete opposite...and OJ is persistent...no matter what he does...she keeps trying to be his salvation...turns out...he's her salvation...this author brilliantly explored the taboo subject of self cutting, piercing, drugs and alcoholism amongst young people in pain
1/4 into the book...happy about my purchase 1/2 into the book...questioning my purchase 3/4 into the book....regretting my purchase It started out really good...I thought this was going to be a good love story but as you continue on the author loses the storyline and it becomes more like a young adult novel...very immature.
This author desperately needed an editor...there were too many grammatical errors and this author rambles on for chapters at a time and the storyline just loses interest. Towards the end you are praying for it to be over. The worst part is there is no conclusion which means there's a part two. Once again this is not a love story.
Honestly the only hung from giving this a 5 star rating was the epilogue. I couldn't tell if they ended up together or not. I know how authors like to keep you in suspense. But all 900 pages I was in suspense. I need a good ending. I love how this book shows how real people are flawed and they're not always perfect. I would read another book from Penny any day.

Now this book was not just good the was a great book. words can't describe the life lessons of this book. I was on an emotional roller coaster trip when it came to OJ, there were time I could strangle her and other times I just wanted to hug her. This is a book that we could all at one time in our lifespan can relate to.. or if it's not OJ or Andy it is one of the characters of this beautiful well Written story. All I have to say is Come On Book 2.
All I can say is wow! O.J; O.J Andy; Andy; Andy! I agree with all the other reviews, I need a second book. It doesn’t have to be as long as this one but I definitely need a novella to tie me over . It can’t end like this
I read this book for the first time about 8 years ago and still to this day this book has honestly changed me no joke. From then to now, the character, their failures and their growth still affect me in the same way if not more. i truly love this book
The first thing I would like to say this book was beyond long, it showed over 900 pages from kindle. Now don't get me wrong, I love long books IF they are interesting... let me start my review.
I honestly felt like Andy had bigger issues then O.J yet she was kind of the star of the show so to speak. She really got on my nerves a little bit with all the uncertainty... now this would be considered normal with any other book, but with a book this long with tug of war was exhausting. I would have liked the focus to be on Andy, yes it started out that way but then it was like " ANDY IS FIXED" with a rug sweep and that was that. I was waiting for this big thing to happen, so I kept reading, and reading and reading and nothing.
So with that being said... This book just wasn't for me, I enjoyed it for a while and liked the story line in the beginning which is why I gave 3 stars but after about 60% I was skimming.
This book was very good. I feel in love with Andy and O.J's story. For her first book the author did exceptionally well. There were some spell errors. The plot of the story was amazing. She hit on the spot what's it's like to not have a father around in your life. Maybe she was talking from personal experiences but her words touched you. I would love to read more about Andy and O.J in the future or anything by her.
O.J felt she had to help the quiet loner, but didn't expect the quiet loner to help her. In life we think that way. Most of us even have a mask on to hide the pain we feel. The author really brought that out in O.J. The person we think less of are the ones that become the one we actually love in the long run.
Great book I loved it. Please keep writing because your story was very well written.
Well just kill me now,I've just read one of the best books of the summer. This is a must have for your library,to pass on to a friend and to recommend to your book club. This was a story so well executed in the telling that you wish at some points it was you in the story. This is laugh out loud good, cry a river good. The chemistry between the main characters and the excellent supporting cast is just genius.I won't give out any juicy details, just know this is what a story should be,how one should be written.
I am seriously only 15 percent done with this book but I swear if the main character OJ doesn't grow the hell up and fast I am going to throw my iPad across the room or at least delete this one after giving it one star...my patience has ne'er been tried so quickly me often ..these ARE supposed to be college students right? I would have guessed 5 grade from the dialogue and interaction so far..God. Am hoping this gets better.......crossing my fingers...
