The Greatest Western Writers Of The 21st Century

Smoke Jensen was a towering Western hero. Now his two freewheeling, long-lost nephews, Ace and Chance Jensen, are blazing a legendary trail of their own…

Riverboat gambling is a blast, until hot-headed Chance finds out just what he won in his final hand against a Missouri River gambler named Haggarty. Chance's "prize" is a beautiful Chinese slave girl named Ling. The twins want to set Ling free and keep their cash, but at Fort Benton, Ling gives them the slip, robbing them blind. When they hunt her down in Rimfire, Montana, she's with Haggarty, lining up their next mark.

What Would Smoke Jensen Do?

Ace and Chance want payback. So does hardcase Leo Belmont, who's come all the way from San Francisco with a grudge and a couple of kill-crazy hired guns. Belmont wants revenge, and Ace and Chance are in the way.

Probably This.

Soon the boys are fighting alongside Ling and Haggarty. Because it doesn't matter now who's right and who's wrong--blazing guns and flying lead are laying down the law…

CHANCE AND ACE JENSEN

In the West, gambling was a dangerous game 🎮
Many cheaters or better known card slicks, if caught cheating with marked cards or the next one is palming, hidding cards up their sleeves.
These types of antics caused many gamblers to lose their lives.
Ace and Chance Jensen have seen a lot and Doc who raised them taught them how to read their fellow players. So they make a living by gambling.
Nothing wrong with that, but if you have a sore loser and they've lost quite a large amount of money to Chance, then they start put to bet
with personal items; some even 🎰use their deeds to their ranches/farms as cash and they lose. That my friends is a "what what moment" in the case of Chance and Ace it was a gold turnip watch..
Exciting is the word for these twins, who are constantly in trouble or better still trouble seeking them.
The Jensen Men aren't the type to back down. You want a fandango, these men will dance and the next thing you know your surrendering, white flag and all that's necessary to stay ALIVE..No
one wants a dirt blanket..right!?

Those Jensen Boys! What else can you say about these two drifters? Trouble always seems to find them and that is evident at the very beginning of this book as they are already fighting for their lives. But then what should we expect from someone who is part of the Jensen family. After some great luck by Chance in a poker game, the boys find themselves the victim of a couple of thieves that they end up chasing across the frontier. Along the way they find themselves helping some settlers who are headed the same way. Jensen being Jensen they end up finding themselves on the wrong side of the line. In the end they move on to their next adventure.

This is my first introduction to these characters Ace and Chance Jensen. As true brothers do I found them to be supportive but also annoy each other with the little things. While most westerns are done in a cookie cutter fashion, I still find these stories to be entertaining and provide me with hours of escape. I look forward to also reading more from Those Jensen Boys! and learning some of their history and back stories.

Ace and Chance go through as many twists and turns in this one that it might make your head spin. A card game where Chance cleans out a gambler who says he will pay him an oriental treasure to cover his loss. The next day the Jensen Boys find out that the treasure is a beautiful woman. From there the twist and turns begins with an ending that you won't believe. I will say enemies must unite if a future is to be had.

No emotional investment to the characters, and the plot was loose.
Not the action nor tight writing of William Johnson.
The Black hats and White hats were neither Black nor White but muted shades as was the action.

I really enjoyed this one. The brother's banter is enjoyable as always. Getting to know some of their history and as their characters evolve are great. This one always had a twist I didn't see coming. Many westerns have the same pattern of materiel etc... and this one doesn't. Enjoyed.
