Thank you Waterbrook Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. We are always on the search for more self-help books especially ones that focuses on rebuilding/changing your life and positive. Meet the New You was very direct and interactive that I actually decided to follow along and take some notes answering Elisa Puliam's questions she gives in each section of the book. After doing a few questions, I started to feel the mental effects that she was explaining.

Thank you Netgalley and Waterbrook Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. We will definitely consider this title for our Self-Help section at the library. That is why we give this book 5 stars!

This is a wonderful book. It is heavily based on Christianity but even if you aren't Christian there's so much good advice here that you can apply to your life. It would have made this process a whole lot easier had I found it sooner. If you're in a transition period right now or you want to understand yourself better, I highly recommend reading it and taking notes! :)

As women (and really as humans) we are constantly comparing ourselves to others: Am I good enough? Is my job something worth being proud of? Do I make enough money? Can I even consider myself successful? Pulliam breaks this self-search down into a 21-challenge that, I would argue, helps you discover the awesome person that you already are.

“Change is possible”

I’ve read a number of self-help books up to this point so I was certain to open the pages to just another “do xyz and your life will be better.” I am so incredibly thankful that was not the case. Each day’s reading ends with a task for the reader to do (for example, take a personality test) and several follow up questions. The questions push you to delve deeper and consider where you’re coming from and where you want to go. At no point does Pulliam push her opinions of success or what life should look like onto the reader. This book truly is for the reader to discover who they are on their own and set realistic goals to get to the place that they want apart from the opinions of others (there’s even a dedicated chapter to that). My favorite part of this book was the emphasis on who you are and the traits you already have, utilizing those to meet your goals instead of trying to be someone you’re not.

If you’re wondering if there were any down sides to this book, even with my 5-star rating, I would have to say no. The only stumbling block I see for some people is that this is a religious guide book. Meaning throughout the book Pulliam suggests advising God on certain goals or praying or learning to be the person God made you. This doesn’t bring the rating down simply because this book is very up front about it being such so you should know what you’re getting into right away. With that said, I think there is value to this book beyond those points and, as with any self-help book, anyone could tweak the advice to fit their life circumstances.

I would highly recommend this book to any Christian woman. Honestly, even if you aren’t Christian and you’re okay skimming over the more religious portions or are able to take away applicable portions of text even if they don’t directly speak to your religious practices, I would recommend this book to you.

Please note: I received this book for free from Blogging for Books in return for my honest review. All words and opinions are my own (as it is always).

I took this 21 day challenge and charted it all out in my book journal and bullet journal. I loved it so much I’m giving away a copy to one lucky reader/ follower along with a few supplies to get you ready to delve in yourself. Check that all out in the post here.

If you have ever thought it would be great to hire a personal life coach to help you be the woman God intended you to be, this book is for you. Pulliam, a life coach and mentor, has written this book with the purpose of coming alongside you. She helps define what you want to build and then focuses on moving forward.

I really liked this book. Reading it (I think) was like having a life coach next to me. I've never had a personal life coach but I think working through this book is what it would be like.

Pulliam has a foundation of encountering God. Such a personal encounter is the only way we will know what God has for us and the direction we should be going.

She takes us through the key phases of life coaching, beginning with awareness. I drew a life map, did a time evaluation, did some prioritizing, and explored a life time-line. Next was finding out who I am. That began with what the Bible said about me, being in Christ. Then I looked at my personality type, my gifting and my talents. Pulliam provided links to free on-line assessment tools. Then I moved on to addressing obstacles. She even made me look at my possible idols. She provided tools to help me move forward and helped me write a vision statement and set goals.

I really appreciate all Pulliam has included in this book. In addition to instructive writing, she included activities and questions that helped me work through this process. I've started writing in a journal, as she recommended. I plan to go back and work through those questions from time to time.

Am I a new person after these twenty one days? Perhaps not, but I have taken the first steps. Pulliam reminds us this is a long journey and her book is a springboard to get us on our way. I have a feeling I will be going through this book many times in the future years as my life situation changes.

I highly recommend this book to any woman who wants to be the person God intended. You'll learn about yourself, what your passions are, what keeps you from moving forward, etc. You'll be given skills to overcome obstacles and you'll learn how to cast a vision for your future. I think you'll find that reading this book just might be the beginning of a great adventure.

Food for thought: “Real change is possible as God continues lifelong transformative work in your heart, mind, body, and soul.” (5)

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

At the beginning of the year, many of us leaf through the self-help books, motivational guides, and Bible studies to start the next 12-months off in a positive way. For those who prefer a combination of these styles, there are books such as Meet the New You. In its pages, Elisa Pulliam takes her readers through a 21-day examination of their lives. Each day, readers look at their lives in various ways like making a list of everything that fills their time, or drawing out a life map of all their areas of relationship and responsibility. There are also websites suggested for tools to discover personality types and learning styles or uncover spiritual gifts.

Although there are probably many books that also suggest personality and learning style inventories, this one relates everything to Bible verses and biblical principles. The author gives brief examples from her own life, but never goes into overly personal details. She also uses quotes from other writers such as Beth Moore, Anne Ortlund, or Dave Ramsey, sharing ideas that she has learned during her own journeys of self-discovery. The length of her book fits well with the accepted wisdom that it takes at least 3 weeks to create a new habit. She also encourages you to stop and reassess your progress periodically to see if you have met your short term goals, are still on the road to your long term goals, or have been through any big changes that might cause a change in those goals.

For those who are looking for a thoughtful and detailed look at their life, this book breaks the process down into steps that can be taken day by day. There is plenty of space to record your thoughts (although the author also recommends keeping a journal to continue reflecting on the journey). Altogether it is a helpful and supportive manual for taking the time to examine your life, the ways you spend your time, and what you want to accomplish.

I took a long time to get through this book (even though it says 21 day plan), I started reading it in January, and only finished it in June. But, mostly because I wanted to get the most out of it. It was chock full of good ideas of how to really take stock of your life and move forward into good new habits. I spent a lot of time on each chapter, thinking and praying about how to implement it into my life.

Elisa Pulliam is a life coach and mentor, so she uses a lot of those kinds of techniques, but also wraps them up with sound biblical principles and also gives readers questions to dig deeper after each chapter. This is definitely a book I will be reading again and again!

If you are looking for a good book to read as part of your daily quiet time, or as I did, during a weekly "going deeper" session with God, then this is the book for you.

I can highly recommend this book for those women who have a need to see how to grow into the destiny that God has for them, making mostly small (and maybe big) changes to try and change into true Women of God.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the Blogging for Books book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Preacher, teacher, life coach and mentor Elisa Pulliam has covered all the bases in her twenty-one day approach to change. Many of us suffer when we try to change because we fall so easily back into old habits. Elisa has created a program with great potential. Space is provided at the end of each chapter for the reader to evaluate and apply the lessons learned. Many readers will probably find that they could easily spend a month or even more reflecting on each of the twenty-one days of lessons offered by the author. Meet the New You is a book to be savored in small bites not a book to be wolfed-down in big hunks. Take your time and enjoy learning about yourself. Bon appetit!
