Gravel's Road

Rate this book
***Book 3 in The Devil's Knights Series***

Ethel had her happily ever after. It may have ended too soon, but it was more than some people got. After Gravel gets hurt, it’s Ethel to the rescue, nursing him back to health, and unearthing feelings she had tried to hide for so long.

Gravel doesn’t want to settle down. He’s lived his life his way for the past forty years, why mess with something that isn’t broke? Except Ethel manages to sneak her way in, making Gravel second guess his plan, wondering if maybe there has been something missing all along.

Due to sexual content and profanity, this book is recommended for ages 18+.

There were things I loved about this one and things I HATED. Gravel is 57 years old and has been living the life screwing the younger club whores. For 10 YEARS Ethel has wanted him and he’s wanted Ethel but he didn’t know if he was READY to settle down. Grow up old man lol. I loved Ethel and of course Meg was hilarious along with Cyn. Once Gravel gets his head out of his ass, he’s awesome but 10 years is way too long IMO.

I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I absolutely loved Ethel and Gravel their story was so cute. And Holy Smokes Gravel still got 'it'... :-)

Ethel was sassy and knew exactly what she wanted. And Gravel was exactly what a biker should be, Gravel being stubborn. And together they worked perfectly.

Winter Travis's series just get's better and better every time. And Troy's story is going to be AWESOME!!!

Can't wait!

Thanks Winter for the ARC and for the opportunity to read this awesome story.

Where do I begin with this one....

57 yr old hero
58 yr old heroine
Known each other 15 years

The hero has been busy screwing the club whores and not ready to settle down. Um what?? First off, that’s disgusting. I can’t even imagine an almost 60 yr old man with a 20 yr old woman. Hello grandpa!

Gravel gets shot. Goes to stay with Ethel so she could take care of him while he recovers. Meanwhile, he’s never even visited her up until now. Yep, that totally makes sense. But they’ve both had feeling for one another? Even though they have no actual relationship? Not even friends? He’s just part of the club her son is the president of .....

His mindset is just like Lo and Rigid....not good enough for the heroine...blah blah blah. Then all of a sudden. BAM!! He wants to claim her as his.

Then the sex scenes. Good lord. I could have used the fade to black scenes here. I really can’t picture sweet little old lady Ethel thinking the thoughts she did. It was like being in the head of Meg or Cyn. Just like with Lo and Rigid. It’s pretty much the same formulas for each of these books. Same thoughts, same language, etc. Sure, Gravel is obviously a perverted old man. But Ethel????? Come on!! Make it a little believable.

It was nice.

I liked Ethel since the first book in this series. She was sweet, sassy, and someone I'd like to spend some time with. She was really cool. And that's why I think she deserved better.
I had a hard time liking Gravel. As in I couldn't like him at all. There's a difference between a moody hero and a grumpy, almost 60yo that likes to bang 20yo chicks and isn't ready to "settle down". Gravel was the latter.

The story was nice enough, but Troy was really amazing. I think he and Marley will be a great addition to this series and I'm really excited to read their story.

On the other hand, Meg is getting on my very last nerve. If I have to put up with another scene with her squealing, yelling, and acting like a nearing-40yo-woman-child-who-thinks-she's-the-bomb while everyone else just shrugs a shoulder like "That's Meg", I'm gonna bang my head against the wall.

Overall, it was a nice story and I'll keep reading this series and this author. I think there's potential here.

Some books you read and they're either too far fetched or too far from your own sensibilities. This was the latter, for me. I soooooo couldn't imagine putting up with Gravel's bull in the first few chapters, it actually made me nauseous. I'm close to Ethel's age, so I should have been able to relate to her character, but there's no way. Forgive, start over? That's her idea? Kick his narcissistic ass out of my house is more what my response would be. A guy tells me he's not 'right for me'? At my age I'm smart enough to believe him and move on. So, you might enjoy it, you might think it was a great story. Me, I don't like humiliation with my coffee.

5 HUGE Stars. Winter just keeps getting better. I love the interaction between Cyn & Meg they are so funny. The age of the h & H in this one is close to my age & so pleased that we are not portrayed as too old or over the hill.

Although I liked their story, some of the grammatical errors in this were pretty bad. Not to mention “timing” didn’t always add up right. And if I had to deal with Meg anymore I’d shoot myself. 3.5 stars. Don’t think I’m moving on after this book.

FIRST Thoughts: "Wait isn't Ethel the MOM??? LIKE, the mother of the male lead in book 1??? She's going to fuck with the old manslut??? How the hell"

LAST thoughts: "Can we have Meg move away because she's pissing me off. Why couldn't we have left her in book 1?"

I couldn't enjoy this one because Meg from book 1? She's so annoying. She wasn't annoying in book 1. I liked book 1. But in both this book, and previous book in the series, shes become absolutely unbearable. When the hell did she become a psycho quirky not-like-other-girls gf? Mind you, she's a 36 year old MILF acting like a 20 yr old ex-manic-pixie-girl. Ugh. So annoying.

Gravel is hard to like because he's a 56 yr old manwhore fucking women in their 20s. He's crass and a love-skeptic. But he's also really supportive of the MC and the girlies (including Meg, gag). The history between him and our 56 year old female lead? How he was attracted to her when they met 15 years prior but she was happily married for 5 years until her husband died and he spent the next 10 years pining because he thought he wasn't enough? Talk about having to make up for lost time !! I'm a big fan of this kind of shit

But anyway I'm giving this 2 stars bc Meg was SOOOOO SOOOOOOOO SOOOOOOOOO ANNOYING, you would not believe this is a woman with a college-aged son. Meg is a fixture in all these books in the worst way possible too.

Edit: Ethel gets a star just on her own. 3 stars.

Adios 🌊

I want more!!!!

What happens when you've had your happily ever after and it ends too soon? Ethel had that but she still has life left in her. Her son grown and the President of the Devil's Knights MC. He has found Meg to share his life with. There is only one other man she has been attracted to besides her husband. Once they had been friends but now he just shuts her out.
Gravel has lived his life his way for too long. He likes his back to the wind, a bike between his legs and a different woman underneath him when he wants. But there has been one woman on his mind lately.
Ethel and Gravel are brought together in her small house while he is recovering from being shot. They can't escape the growing attraction. She is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. Gravel has awaken something inside Ethel that has been buried a long time.
I think Gravel and Ethel have become one of my all time favorite couples. They have come to a point in their lifes that there are no games to play but they have to make that decision to take a chance. This is not your typical romance of flighty decisions and then coming back together to make it work. It is a deep romance that comes with maturity. I loved it. Great job Winter Travers. You did it again!

5 Reunion Stars

Ethel has been in love Grave for the past fifteen years. After Grave have been shot, Ethel was voluntary taking care for him till he can be on his own. I love this series and I can wait to read about Troy :).

“My road lead me right to you,” he said, leaning in, his lips claiming mine.”

I just love Gravel and Ethel! Gravel is tough, grumpy but he is so full of heart. I love the connection and the feelings they have. So sweet, so wonderful to read about a love between older characters. A must read!

One thing that's awesome about Winter is she can write any age of a character. Gravel and Ethel are in their late 50's and have a chance at romance. This is a shorter story in the Devils Knights series but still enjoyable.

Ethel has had a good life. Her son has found love and is the president of the MC. He has a good heart and helps his mom out when he can. The only thing is Ethel is a little lonely but isn't sure if she wants to take a chance on Gravel or not. Ethel will have to decide if she can open her heart to Gravel and love. Her sass and cooking skills are great. I enjoyed her character so much.

Gravel has seen and done a lot. After needing help he is forced to stay with Ethel. The one person who can shake him and bring him to his knees. There are lots of surprises we learn about Gravel. One thing is for certain, he wants Ethel to be his forever. This story was a great go between the main plot and issues the Devils Knights face.

The other members are present and bring about the sense of family and brotherhood. They show how they help everyone who is family by being there for Gravel and Ethel. As I said at the beginning, Winter wrote about an older couple in an awesome way. It was all realistic and not far fetched on their actions and romance.

I love the world Winter creates with the Devils Knights. It is full of fun, heart, family, and excitement. The story flowed and concluded seamlessly but left the door open for a continuation in the next story. I give this story 5 pointe shoes for the fact that since reading it initially this year, I've read it two more times.

Gravel is grumpy on the surface but has a heart of softness when it comes to those he cares about, he has guilt about the distance between himself and his daughter and has been secretly in love with Ethel for years. I loved this, being a slightly older couple who are near my own age I guess I related to them, the slowing up and not wanting the late nights so much, slower healing and bouncing back. Ethel is so caring of all the guys and the women, she tucks them under her wing and gives sound advice. When Marley arrives she is quick to accept and help and I loved just how fast they were bonding. This is mostly a sweet romance, it's a building of family and second chances, it is obviously based around the MC but a lot is at Ethel's place. It has fun and laughter and is a lighter read than the previous books in the series until we get to the cliff at the end. Next book is Troy, I think the MC might just as well make him a member. Really enjoying this box set, I'm posting reviews on the single books as well as I go. Fabulous characters and this was an easy read, very enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this book. You don't have to be young to find your second chance at love. Gravel was 57 and Ethel was 58. She met Gravel while still married but once she lost her husband she thought she would have a chance with him. Gravel was still to busy sowing his oats with the younger club whores. When he was sidelined by a gun shot wound and had to have Ethel care for him he realized he can't deny his feeling any longer.
An unexpected surprise shows up for Gravel that brings drama to the club. Also you get Meg and Cyn's crazy going on to add a little humor.

Gravel and Ethel OMG! I never knew how romantic an older couples love could be. Ethel is the perfect thing for Gravel. But the events with someone unexpected showed up and made things a less perfect. This series has me by the gonads for sure and Winter is an amazing author for writing this amazing series.
Folks yall will not be disappointed in this series!
Voluntarily read and reviewed this book for my honest opinion.

When they met 15 years ago, it wasn't the right time. Will he be ready to settle down now? Will she finally get the man who has held her heart for years?

Absolutely loved seeing these two get together. I have loved Ethel since the first book in this series and this book proved why. I loved how she was who she was and she was ready to accept what came. I didn't blame him for being hesitant, but loved when he folded and allowed himself to feel for her. Good read!

Great book

A second chance do fall in love and do it right. He'd known her for years, but at the time they first met she belonged to another. Circumstances change and she wants him but he doesn't feel he's good enough now. She's the mother of the President, one special lady they all love, come along for the ride and enjoy the story of how they finally come together for their HEA.

Can Ethel have a happy ever after? Read and find out. After Gravel got shot he has 2 recoup with her help. She puts him in his places but also they find interesting things about each other. Gravel has a daughter Marley just like she has her son Lo. Can the family get along enough 2 even b friends or even more? It was pretty good. Kinda boring compared 2 the other but it's still funny when Meg is around especially when shopping lol

Oh Gravel

The guy has always been just the curtest character but I always had a soft spot for him. He cares even though he seems to make people work for it. Ethel on the other hand is so kind and loving it makes your teeth hurt from the sweetness but man is she hardcore. This book was fun and an all in read. I got completely lost in the storyline. Wanting to see what would happen and where the series was headed. I am stoked to see what comes next. Bring on the drama!

Pretty good

Mature love wins I agree with other readers that it gets a little old reading about 20 somethings all the time. Only downside was I wished 1 chapter would have been centered on how they met and flirted with each other only to realize that Ethel was married and love was not meant to be at this time

This was a interesting story, as we got to know Ethel and Gravel more.

I loved Gravel, he can be grumpy. And he hates being idle. He also has a sweet side. He loves the freedom of the club.

I loved Ethel, she is caring, sweet and funny. She enjoys to cook, and loves feeding people.

I really enjoyed this story.

Another great read in the Devil’s Knight series. This is Gravel and Ethel’s story and I really enjoyed reading it. This book had me rolling on the floor laughing with tears pouring down my face. I enjoyed reading about these two and I didn't see them as the "older" couple. It sort of bothered me how Gravel fought his attraction/slept around so much and then bam he was all in, but other than that the story was really well done. I laughed way more than I thought I would and that was a nice change.

There was a smooth transition from book #2 to book #3 and enjoyed the characters

Other than having some characters who are in a motorcycle club, I didn’t see it as a real “book depiction” of a motorcycle club novel. I couldn’t imagine have a non-member doing recon on a rival MC or allowing them go to “church”.

I did enjoy the storyline and as always love Meg and Cyn!

Ethel, Lo’s (King) mother who has been a widow for the past several years. Gravel one of the older members of the Knights MC, gets shot and Ethel ends up caring for him after he leaves the hospital. The two are in their 50s and have had a connection for heard. You can only guess what happens. The two are amazing together!

Great Story

This was a fun read. Gravel and Ethel were so interesting and unexpected! When Ethel was first introduced I thought she was older than she is in this book. Her and the women were funny and trouble finds them at every turn thanks to Meg. Gravel didn’t disappoint either! Great book, I enjoyed reading about them.
