Sakamichi Onoda's first race...and his first road racer!
Sakamichi Onoda finds himself in his first real road race following his fateful encounter with fellow first-years and road-racing hopefuls--the driven ace, Shunsuke Imaizumi, and the gifted sprinter and "Speedster of Naniwa," Shoukichi Naruko! But the heated first-years' race for team Sohoku is serious business, and Onoda's competing on his granny bike!! After struggling to keep up, Onoda trades in his old bike midrace for a brand-spankin'-new road bike, and his slumbering potential comes bursting out!! But will it be enough to ride to the top?!
I would never have thought that a single bike race up a big hill could hold me as captivated as I was by this volume. Not that I didn't get impatient at times - like all shounen action series, YowaPeda does drag things out via observer commentary to the point of annoyance and the art really is atrocious in places. But I still read this omnibus in one sitting and, upon finishing it, wanted to reach for the next.
hoooooly shit this was hype. reminds me of some points of Slam Dunk, this author really knows how to make the races hype af bro😤. Also love how there’s like no animosity between people like in a lot of other sports manga.. like while there’s a bit of rivalry, there’s no hate or dislike at all, just people enjoying the sport which is great. Need to get my hands on volume 3😭
So glad these aren't individual volumes. I'm liking the biking corner bits. Interesting but taking a lot of concentration to focus on them. The first year race is done with Onoda shocking everyone with being a climber, then having to watch his friends go seriously for the goal. Up next personal training with the spider. Dangerous series, so addictive.

The whole book was about one race. A two volume book about one race. But it made me happy cause there weren't any huge cliffhangers. Next is training and then we get to know the other members of the Sohoku High Cycling Club.
AAAAAAAAA, para senpainya (belum) seciamik tv series *plak Maaf saya masih membayangkan para aktor pemeran tv series dari Yowamushi Pedal yang memang kece. *uhuk-uhuk apalagi kebanyakan para alumnus tenimyu Yosh, Naruko-kun memang penuh semangat. Kalau live action kan kita dapat mendengar aksen kansainya.
I just can’t help getting excited about their racing and cheesy friendship stuff. It really makes me want to get on a bike and try riding though it’s probably been 25 years since I rode one. The art isn’t a style I’d usually care for, it feels a bit sketchy, but it really has energy that goes well with the cycling.
Loved the detail, although both volumes in the omnibus covered one race, and the story became repetitive at times, especially when a catch is built up to for pages at a time. The artist would probably make a good job of retelling the story of a pro race with a full field... and possibly does in later instalments.
Words of cycling inspiration from Naruko, which should be cross stitched somewhere: “If it’s hard, push through it…. Push til you need to poop, or ‘til your nose starts bleedin!”
Onoda: “Huh!?”

Absolutely love this series. It is extremely gripping. The Welcome Race, which this omni solely focuses on, is every bit dramatic. You would never think a simple 65km bike race is enticing; it is though. However, it does suffer from dragged out moments, but it is not too severe.
Yowamushi also has a very colorful cast. Each character is given a unique role: Onoda is the beginner with massive potential, Imazumi is the numb experienced rider, Naruko is the flashy teammate that instills confidence into the team. They all grow and outperform their roles. Onoda is leading on the whim cycling techniques, Imazumi begins to feel like a kid again, and Naruko has to retreat the spotlight to others. The characters and their depth is the bright spot of the series.
Still a fun series with lots of spot-on cycling details. I like how each of the 3 main characters are a different type of cyclist and that they have respect for each other. There's no "bad guy," they're just competitors.
