Super fun follow up to the first, showing what happens to Figment and Dreamfinder when they arrive in the twenty-first century! It introduces an intrepid young inventor, and her imaginary friend, Spark, who is darling, and proposes an alternate world in which EPCOT is actually an elite academy.

I didn't like this one quite as much as the first Figment book, in part because it felt like the same story. Dreamfinder learns to use his imagination, again, and proves himself to a strict, doubting authority figure, again. The story has been moved to modern day Orlando, one where EPCOT is, apparently, actually an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, and the Journey into Imagination pavilion is actually an institute, like in the current version of the ride. Don't get me wrong, the book still goes out of its way to avoid directly referring to anything on the ride as it actually is now, which is even more weird. But I guess you can view it as a sort of bridging device between the ride as it was and the ride as it is now, sort of. Despite feeling a lot like the first Figment book, it's cute, will be well-liked by young readers, and probably does a better job conveying its message than the first book did. I still like the first one better, though.

Figment and the Dreamfinder return in "Figment 2: Legacy of Imagination." This time, they arrive in modern day Florida where new technology exists, which causes the Dreamfinder to doubt himself and his capabilities. In doubting himself, a dark version of the Dreamfinder springs into existence with the intent of destroying the dreams and imagination of everyone. But one brave little girl goes on an adventure with Figment in order to restore the Dreamfinder to prevent the destruction of dreams and imagination.

A lovely, beautiful, poignant conclusion to this series. With volume 1, that book took place primarily in 1910 London, England. This time we go to modern day Florida which provides for a nice narrative. The Dreamfinder is overwhelmed and confused by technology and when his own skills are put to the test, he fails, and in turn begins to doubt himself which creates a dark version of himself that plans to destroy imagination forever. The messages presented in this volume are beautiful and something that all children should learn. Even when you fail, try again. Don't let one bad day, one bad invention, ruin your dreams and imagination. Failures make us stronger. And in turn, don't run from those who would help and support you. I continued to love the vibrant artwork. Such beautiful color on every page. I also adored the new characters. Capri Harmony was a fantastic character. Capri is a little girl who dreams of being an inventor and the Dreamfinder is her inspiration. She also creates Spark---her own version of Figment essentially. Spark is this adorable flying cat. I couldn't get enough of Spark! Too cute! And continued to love the Figment/Dreamfinder relationship. They are a whole and work best together when things get dark.

Overall, a beautiful 2-part series. Volume 2 does end in such a way that Figment and Dreamfinder will continue to have adventures, but there's been no word from Disney and Marvel if they will create future installments. If not, these 2 volumes were a joy from start to finish and I had so much fun going on these adventures.

Take all the failing of the first volume and mix in a (of course) Smart and Brave little girl who Just WON'T Take NO For An Answer, elevate the annoying sidekick of the first to an exponentially more irritating level by speaking in nothing but nonsense catch-phrases rather than in a cloned Roger Rabbit patter like the original, play wink-and nod DON'T YOU KNOW HOW CLEVER I AM by setting the story in not-Epcot and my gods this was terrible.

Figment 2 sticks us in modern day with Figment and Blair (who now goes by Dreamfinder) going through time to land at his old university. However, when he's asked to show how his original machine works, it goes wrong, giving birth to the Doubtfinder. Now Figment must enlist the help of Dreamfinder's Great-Great-Great-Great Niece, Capri, to fix everything and get rid of Doubtfinder for good.

This is less a sequel to the original series and more of a spinoff. This series follows Capri, a young brilliant inventor and dreamer with abilities similar to Dreamfinder's. The tone is very different, it being in modern day and only sticking to the University instead of visiting other dimentions. Blair is only really a character for the beginning of the story and the end. The villain of Doubtfinder isn't really explained and feels like much less of a threat than the villains of the first Figment series. However, that's not to say it wasn't fun to read.

The artwork has improved drastically since the first book. The expressions of the characters are much more vibrant and fun, giving this part of the series a more Saturday Morning Cartoon feel to them. Which, I believe fits perfectly with this series. It was a good direction to go in, even if I felt like Blair should have been more of a part of the story and some of the story felt a bit rushed.

Overall, it was just fun. I just wish the story was a bit longer.

This is at times better and at times worse than the first volume. The move to modern times has its moments, but the main story, about doubt, is a little tropish. Capri makes for an adorable addition to the cast, but Spark goes over about as well as the revised ride did (and its constant rhymes that also are often larger Disney references quickly wear out their welcome). The art is pretty good, but the humor is weaker. Zub manages to write some good climaxes and finales, but the middle suffers again. Again, this is for fans of Figment not new converts, and it's right in the middle of the pack in terms of the Marvel Disney ride comics.

I thought this volume was supercali-Figmentastic! It's been quite a while since I read the first book, but I've also matured an learned a lot within that time. I was much like Capri the first time I encountered this world. Now, I find I might be more Blair Mercurial. As an adult, it feels so much easier for doubt and fear to take hold, to take control of us. Leading us down a path we're not meant to take and stifle ourselves and our potential.

It's a bit of an ingenious villain, I'll give Marvel that. But you can't let that stop you. You have to listen to that inner Capri, you have to find friends like Figment and Spark to encourage you along your way.

I didn't know much about Figment's history of his ride at Epcot the first time I entered this world. I didn't realize Dreamfinder was a character conceived in the 70s or 80s. The Journey Into Imagination with Figment that I grew up with is different. There's even a different scientist. But this telling of the tale argues not to give up on myself or any silly little idea I may have. Not to give up on my dreams, even if in all the hullabaloo, it feels like I can't hear them anymore. When it feels like I've lost them, I don't know where they are.

Capri is not only my inner child, she is hope personified. She doesn't know anything other than hope, she hasn't let the naysayers and the doubt creep in and hold her back. She's a warrior in the best sense--in the imaginary one. She teaches me to fly. Both Spark and Figment can do it, and so can I. I recommend this book to those who need their spark of hope relit.

Even better

Not only awesome characters, but a good story with an uplifting message - doubt and fear are natural but they don't have to control you, with the help of friends you can pull out of the darkness.

Has exactly the same structure as the first volume. If that worked for you, this should too.

Thoroughly enjoyable continuation of the story of Figment and Dreamfinder. Doubt is created regarding using your imagination and a disastrous outcome ensues.

LOVED it. Jim Zub is an amazing author & his continuation from the first story arc is just as wonderful ♡ A lot more Disney easter eggs in this one (which sometimes I felt were a bit too much) but I loved the story through and through & it made me feel very nostalgic and I just feel in a happier mood after reading this. HIGHLY recommended for all ages but especially for young children

I'm a sucker for anything Disney related. I used to work in EPCOT, so my heart has a soft spot for Figment.

This book is amazingly corny and cheesy and I loved every inch of it. The artwork in this book is simply amazing and beautiful. The plot cheesy and childlike (like the ride at EPCOT), but I still enjoyed it.

A wonderful new story about Figment and the Dreamfinder. An inspirational story of imagination conquering fear and doubt with all the characters we loved from the first one and all new characters for this adventure. In many ways better than the original. I actually hope they will do a Figment 3.

Another cute story about the power of imagination. Dreamfinder and Figment are back in the real world. One hundred years in the future. Technology has advanced farther than Dreamfinder can fathom. The academy's governing body is as strick as ever, and now Dreamfinder doubts that the future has any place for an old dreamer.

This was a great continuation to the adventures of a Victorian inventor and his imaginary dragon. The new characters are the best part though.
