Astra has been more of a background character up until now, with only a few scenes in the previous books showing her off. Which is a shame because she’s an immediately likeable character. Compared to some of the other girls, Astra is very straight-forward and positive and it shows.
Having her helping Piper in the last book made for a great lead in to her starring in this book. I felt like I knew her just enough to be able to move into her book seamlessly.
A lot of great stuff happens pre-Wishworld. Astra and Piper manage to convince the other Star Darlings that they are not behaving right (which is not easy to do) and seeing the other girls aware they are being affected but unable to stop is both funny and a little scary.
Astra’s mission is similar to previous ones and has the same kind of complications. In this case, Astra falls into almost the same trap that Leona did: she gets so sure of what *she* likes, that she overlooks what her wisher really wants.
And then Libby shows up.
And the book ends with a few dangling hints, including a name drop that I guess is supposed to be important (based on a something I same related to a later book) and also a possible bombshell reveal.
Dun dun DUN!.
Like Astra herself, it’s a quick paced story. Very fun to read.
