Demigods & Magicians: Percy and Annabeth Meet the Kanes

Rate this book
Magic, monsters, and mayhem abound when Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase meet Carter and Sadie Kane for the first time. Weird creatures are appearing in unexpected places, and the demigods and magicians have to team up to take them down. As they battle with Celestial Bronze and glowing hieroglyphs, the four heroes find that they have a lot in common--and more power than they ever thought possible. But will their combined forces be enough to foil an ancient enemy who is mixing Greek and Egyptian incantations for an evil purpose? Rick Riordan wields his usual storytelling magic in this adrenaline-fueled adventure.

THE SON OF SOBEK
★★★★★

”Deal. Now, could you please untie my sword hand from my head? I feel like a freaking unicorn”.

¡Ahhhh!

★★★★☆

”Intelligence won wars, not brute force”.

★★★★☆

”I kissed her, because 1) when you’re a demigod going into battle, every kiss might be your last, and 2) I like kissing her”.

Attention: if you want to read this, you SHOULD read both The Kane Chronicles & Percy Jackson & the Olympians first.

these 3 short stories are about when because of some, you might say unsolved matters (as I asked that in the end of the Kane chronicles, before I find out there were these short stories) in Kane chronicles, the Demigods (Percy & Annabeth) meet the Magicians (Carter & Sadie) & the worlds of Greek deities & Egyptian gods crossed for a brief amount of time.
it was fun, like all Riordan's books. even for me as I don't like short stories (because they end too soon!) this one was satisfying.

Am I the only one who wants a 5-book Crossover series between Greek gods (Percy Jackson), Roman gods (Heroes of Olympus, I mean the characters here, we already had a crossover between these two), Norse Mythology (Magnus Chase) & Egyptian deities (Kane Chronicles)?
Something writtten by Riordan of course, although I know a Great crossover between Greek, Norse & Egypt already (but it does not include all the gods, just a few of them); the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

Don't read this until after you've read The Kane Chronicles and both Percy Jackson and the Olympians and the Heroes of Olympus series because these take place after all of those books. I really enjoyed the stories though, and seeing the Kanes in action again was awesome! It makes me want to reread all of the Riordan's mythology books.

I think I would’ve liked this a little more if the POVs changed more often.

I’m glad we saw the definitive (and poetic?) end to Setne.
Plus a bit of a life update for Annabeth.

I wasn’t a huge fan of being in Percy’s head when Egyptian mythology or magic was being described. He’s no brainiac but he’s not as clueless as the narration would’ve had us think.

A little disappointing none of the other characters from either series made an appearance. I get why but I think it would’ve made things a touch more exciting.

Overall, I appreciate how this book expanded an open plot and made both the demigod and magician world bigger. Well, for some select people anyway.

*side note* don't read this novella as the events of this take place after the events of, The Percy Jackson series, Heroes of Olympus series and The Kane Chronicles.

I really enjoyed this crossover between Percy, Annabeth, Sadie and Carter it was a nice meeting of characters and worlds colliding.

Short Story rating:

The Son of Sobek: 4/5
The Staff of Serapis: 4.5/5
The Crown of Ptolemy 5/5

I liked each of these stories especially the last one with the 4 working together and it was awesome to see them bouncing off each other so well. Getting each of the other two stories with Percy and Carter working together and the same for Sadie and Annabeth, it was good to see the different interactions with them meeting for the first time and them having to work together without any form of knowing one another.

I really enjoyed the Greek and Egyptian crossover and seeing the characters react and also interact with the problems at hand. I liked seeing Annabeth and Percy react to all the Egyptian powers and vice versa with Sadie and Carter.

Now i would like to see a major crossover with all the Greek, Egyptian and Roman demigods and i can only imagine how that would play out but for me that would be a very interesting and fun read!

Rick always makes these books fun and full of knowledge about all the different Greek, Egyptian and Roman mythology, i will always come back to these books with open arms.

This. Is. Going. To. Be. AWESOME.
There's this thing that Rick Riordan does that just makes your insides go squishy and you can't help but be excited for months for...his book releases!
There aren't many authors that are on my auto-buy list, but lets just say...HELLS YEAH RICK RIORDAN IS ON THAT LIST! Something would have to be MAJORLY wrong with me, to not IMMEDIATELY buy his book!
THIS IS EVEN BETTER THAN A SIMPSONS/FUTURAMA CROSSOVER!!!!
Uncle Rick has done it again!

Actual rating: ★★★★ and 1/2 stars. Since this book is a combination of three stories, I made a sum out of each.

Friendly reminder that in order to understand this story, you need to read Percy Jackson Collection: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, the Last Olympian, the Titans Curse, the Sea of Monsters, the Battle of the Labyrinth, the Demigod Files and the Red Pyramid first.

The Son of Sobek Review ★★★★ and 3/4
The Staff of Serapis Review ★★★ and 3/4
The Crown of Ptolemy Review ★★★★★

Rick Riordan please please please make another story where the Kanes meet the demigods!!

What can I say about this book?

+ It gave me a huge nostalgie and a reminder of my early teen years.

+ This book is very well written, organized and the battle scenes and settings were perfectly described. Mind you, this book could easily be addressed to middle graders (they even use it at my middle school) so I think this is a point to take into account.

+ I laughed out loud at some of the scenes. Even in the darkest moments, either Sadie or Percy make sarcastic or funny comments.

BUT!

- I felt like the villain of the story wasn't a villain at all. He was just a man thirsty with power... idk.

- Annabeth's personality. I didn't feel like she was the Annabeth I knew in the books.

With everything being said (written), I will totally buy the next book if Rick makes one or another sequel for The Serpent's Shadow !

Hear me out. These companion books from Riordan are usually a solid 3 stars sort of situation.
But I do think this one went a step above.

And no. It's not just cause when I see words printed on a page that go like "sea green eyes and an orange t-shirt" make me grin like a lunatic. Promise.

Having finished The Serpent's Shadow the same day I read this, the fact that this crossover was set up carefully did not escape my notice.

The first story, The Son of Sobek, is the shortest, and it details the meeting of Carter and Percy. In typical boy fashion, they are very reticent about their origins, but unite forces against a monster.

The second story is a bit longer, The Staff of Serapis, and details the meeting of Annabeth and Sadie, who divulge a little more information.

The third story, The Crown of Ptolemy, is the longest and it brings all of our four heroes and magicians together. While I enjoyed all these stories, I enjoyed this one the most. It afforded as a look at 17 year old Percy and Annabeth, now that they've been dating over a year, and I'm always game to visit these two. Carter and Sadie are fresh off their battle with Apophis and it was cool to see how they're doing.

Vedrei molto bene i quattro a lavorare insieme
a sconfiggere mostri con geroglifici luminosi e parole greche.

**No spoilers**

A really great collection of 3 short stories and I thoroughly enjoyed each one. Seeing 4 loveable characters from 2 awesome series come together and combine their powers to save the world...incredible and funny. It left is kind of open ended like maybe they'll team up again in the future, which I would definitely love!!

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Partiamo dal titolo: in originale è Demigods & Magicians: Percy and Annabeth Meet the Kanes

"Is your brother's name Carter?" Annabeth asked.
An angry golden aura flickered around Sadie's head-a halo of hieroglyphs that resembled frowns, fists, and dead stick men.
"As of this moment," Sadie growled, "My brother's name is Punching Bag.”

This was the crossover I was craving after reading The Kane Chronicles trilogy! I was so excited to have the Kane siblings back AND interacting with Percy and Annabeth! They really compliment each other and the dynamics here was just right and funny. I liked how the short stories were linked between them to the climax in The Crown of Ptolemy and though it was interesting to have Annabeth's POV in one of the stories since we first see the boys teaming up, then the girls and finally the four of them together as they mixed Egyptian and Greek magic, I would have liked to get Sadie's or Carter's POV in one of those - I missed their narration, especially Sadie's (also known for a fact as the lovechild of Percy & Annabeth). And though I left this book craving more Egyptian adventures ( I so wish Rick would write more on the Kanes!), it was amazing and all I could hope for in a crossover!

“I’d have to play this smart … which was not my usual style.”

This is a fun crossover between Percy Jackson's and the Kane's world. My main problem, however, is that I don't really like the Kanes.

Ancient Egypt is one of the most interesting cultures and I wish there were more fiction books about it. That's also why I was all the more disappointed when I didn't like The Kane Chronicles that much - a lot of people had mentioned that Riordan's Egypt series isn't as good as Percy Jackson, yet I hoped the books would prove me wrong. It's not that they were bad, but it was difficult to get through them as I simply didn't like the main characters.

When I started Demigods & Magicians, I was constantly reminded of how disappointed I was with The Kane Chronicles. Having Carter as the first narrator didn't help, but I suppose it could have been worse; Sadie didn't get any narration and, given that I never warmed up to her, I was glad of that.

Putting aside the fact that I don't like the Kanes, this really was a fun crossover. It consists of short stories so I can't say I enjoyed it as much as Riordan's full-length novels, but I thought they were well structured and detailed given their length. It was nice to see some Egyptian gods again and of course just seeing Percy and Annabeth in action again. In regards to Percy's thoughts of having children someday: please don't let them be like Sadie Kane.

A simple and cute book. It was nice to see a bit of a crossover regardless if it was necessary or not.

Honestly, what made this worth it was the scene where Percy sees Sadie and says that she reminded him of Annabeth and him put together, which ultimately made him think of what their kids would be like. My heart!! I teared up a little not gonna lie. Totally made it worth the read for me.
