Comprei hoje, folhei umas páginas e fiquei…
Um livro escrito durante dois anos pelas biólogas Maria Ana Peixe Dias e Inês Teixeira do Rosário, com ilustrações de Bernardo P. Carvalho.

November 11, 2017Um livro muito interessante para explorar com os mais novos. A linguagem é muito acessível e bem-humorada, não deixando de ser científica, com imensas propostas de atividades a apelar a todos os sentidos, de uma forma bastante poética. Isso também se reflete nas ilustrações - não há uma única foto neste guia e não faz falta nenhuma, pois a arte é bastante rigorosa e detalhada - gostaria de ver mais cor, pois creio que é importante nestas áreas e as aguarelas coloridas do meio do livro têm muito encanto (afinal de contas, um arco-íris a preto-e-branco não tem muita piada, embora deixe algum espaço para a imaginação) ainda assim, consigo entender a escolha ecológica das duas cores.
Relembrei muitas coisas que já tinha aprendido e aprendi mais umas quantas. É um forte apelo ao amor pela Natureza e à sua preservação, dá mesmo vontade de sair lá para fora e explorar!

Offers ideas for family activities and many illustrations for discovering the world outside. Readers will learn about the Earth’s formation, how weather works, and about the causes of earthquakes and volcanoes in this fun, comprehensive and beautifully illustrated guide.

This book have an interesting contents about various things, from trees to animals, living in nature (North American nature mostly), so you can learn about it and then, or while, exploring it. The contents is good, but the format is boring. It just look like a old school science book from the 80's. The color, the illustrations, all about it scream old! And so, I'm not sure that the kids, who are the targeted public, would find it very interesting and would be attract to it. 4 stars for the contents, 1 star for the objects in itself, I go with 2,5 overall.

Um livro para pequenos e grandes!
Encontrei me fascinada pelo livro e as lindas ilustrações, se ainda a descobrir uns factos interessantes sobre tudo que envolve o nosso planeta e os seus habitantes!!
Gostei também bastante do facto da linguagem ser acessível tanto a crianças mais novas como mais velhas (explicando os nomes mais complexos ou utilizados por biólogos para que fossem perceptíveis).

This is a great book for kids. The content is well thought out and inspiring. Reading level around upper elementary, probably grades 4-6. One thing that could use allot of work is the accompanying pictures. Make the animals and other items the actual colors!
It is important to note that the other books by this author are just smaller versions of this version. I made a mistake of buying all 3!

À primeira vista é robusto e mete medo. Depois quando se pega nele sente-se o seu peso, mas não se resiste a passar a mão sobre a capa dura, com uma textura áspera, de um laranja hipnotizante. Por fim cedemos à vontade de o abrir e mergulhamos no mundo «lá fora».
É da Planeta Tangerina e foi concebido por Maria Ana Peixe Dias, Inês Teixeira do Rosário e Bernardo P. Carvalho.
Por onde começar? Os autores começam inteligentemente pelo princípio, quando o Homem vivia na Natureza, não só da Natureza. Contam uma história de como nós, humanos, fomos aprendendo os ciclos naturais, a distinguir o que era bom do que era mau para comer, a defendermo-nos dos predadores e a inventar formas de prever mudanças na Natureza até à grande invenção – a civilização.
Numa linguagem acessível, em textos muito bem estruturados, os autores contam-nos onde se pode encontrar na cidade um mundo natural que parece existir apenas no campo, mas que está bem presente muito perto das nossas casas urbanas.
E depois contam porque resolveram escrever um livro sobre a vida «lá fora». Primeiro porque pretendiam ajudar a abrir os olhos para as coisas divertidas que se podem explorar na rua, em vez de ficar em casa a descobri-las através da televisão ou da internet. Por outro lado, acharam que as crianças iam gostar de saber quão diverso é o mundo natural neste cantinho da Península Ibérica.
Para isso há que aprender primeiro o que é o campo, a cidade, os bosques, as florestas, as praias, e tudo mais. Depois há que estabelecer regras, porque isto de explorar a natureza até pode ser divertido, mas se não se tiver cuidado, pode tornar-se perigoso. Estabelecidas as regras de segurança, ficamos a conhecer algumas das coisas que devemos levar connosco, desde objetos importantes, como lanterna, bússula e um bloco de notas, a vestuário adequado, o que é sempre muito útil.
Nada é deixado ao acaso. Tudo fica bem estabelecido antes de se passar para a fase mais interessante – a da partida para a descoberta.
Como é que se procuram os animais na rua? Que tal começar com os vestígios deixados por eles? Desde marcas de patas, a rastos, a restos de comida, até às fezes. Tudo é muito bem descrito e identificado, de modo a não deixar escapar nada. Ou quase nada. Nem sempre é possível descobrir tudo, saber tudo, e há sempre lugar para o erro. Porque também é assim que se aprende.
Capítulo a capítulo, em páginas profusamente ilustradas e com informações apelativas e elucidativas, vamos descobrindo diversas curiosidades sobre insetos, anfíbios, árvores, aves, répteis, flores, mamíferos, rochas, mar e praias e céu de Portugal.
Encontram-se pois vários motivos para andar dobrado nos jardins e nos parques ou nos passeios a examinar o chão, com os olhos semicerrados a ver se encontramos uma lesma ou os restos de comida deixados por um chapim-real ou então de cabeça virada para cima, perscrutando o céu, na tentativa de identificar que nuvens suspeitas são aquelas que se aproximam e que podem muito bem trazer chuva.
No final de cada secção, os autores propõem atividades para se aplicar cada novo conhecimento, como por exemplo ir às Berlengas ver sardões e lagartixas ou então fazer uma expedição ao campo algarvio ou ainda escrever histórias sobre os animais sobre os quais se esteve a ler.
Há muito por fazer e descobrir, e basta folhear o livro para nos darmos conta, mal saímos de casa e chegamos à rua, de quanta vida é possível encontrar ali tão perto. Miúdos e graúdos, todos juntos, em família, numa autêntica viagem ao microcosmos.
Um verdadeiro guia que convida à exploração, à descoberta e ao questionamento, numa edição cuidada, cheia de pormenores cativantes, com informação útil, sem ser demasiado expositiva ou maçuda. Gdy byłem dzieckiem miałem różne hobby, niektóre tymczasowe (zabawa z kijem, którego traktowałem jak pieska, przywiązując m.in. do słupków i wyprowadzając go na spacer), a niektóre trwające dłużej. Do tych drugich muszę zaliczyć absolutną fascynację geografią i biologią. To drugie szybko mi przeszło, bo trafiłem na nauczycielkę o mocno niesympatycznym stylu bycia ale pozostała geografia - od klasycznego “palcem po mapie”, po lektury wszystkiego co się dało - leksykonów, encyklopedii czy książek przygodowych.
Mogę tylko żałować, że “Na dworze. Przewodnik dla odkrywców przyrody” (tłum. Tomasz Pindel) nie było jedną z moich dziecięcych lektur, na szczęście wasze dzieci mogą utonąć w tej pięknie wydanej książce i zobaczyć, że niewiele trzeba, by spotkać zwierzęta, a przyroda otacza nas wszędzie, choćbyśmy mieszkali na najbardziej zabetonowanym blokowisku. Książkę napisali portugalskie autorki (Maria Ana Peixe Dias i Inês Teixeira do Rosário), ale wydawnictwo włożyło sporo pracy w to, by tytuł “spolszczyć” także w treści (Mikołaj Golachowski i Beata Bednarczuk są za to odpowiedzialni), dzięki czemu nie będzie to lektura egzotyczna, bo jednak warto uczyć o naszej przyrodzie, choćbyśmy żyli w przekonaniu, że za te trzydzieści lat to u nas już palmy i małpki będa.
Czego tu nie ma! Wszystko, co chcecie wiedzieć o kameleonach, ile kwiatów ma rumianek, czym zajmuje się herpetolog, dlaczego jaskółki są tylko wiosną i latem, czy jak zrobić rzeźbę w stylu “land artu”.Setki pytań i odpowiedzi, które kierują do kolejnych zagadek i zachęcają do samodzielnego eksplorowania przestrzeni. I tu mam niewielki zarzut do przewodnika - właściwie nie mówi się w nim nic o dorosłych. Rozumiem traktowanie dziecka poważnie i fakt, że książka jest skierowana do młodych czytelników i czytelniczek, ale autorzy wyabstrahowali treść z obecności dorosłych - rodziców, opiekunów. Dziecko ma samo pojechać na wieś, samo się spakować, samo szukać śladów w lesie. To przecież abstrakcja, w świecie, gdzie dzieciaki są dowożone do szkół, a na ich samodzielność patrzy się dość sceptycznie, warto by uwzględnić fakt współpracy dzieci z dorosłymi. Rozdział “jak wyprowadzić rodzica na spacer” by się bardzo tej książce przydał, jak i wspólne zadania. Bo tak mamy świetne kompendium, ale niezbyt integrujący przewodnik. Plus za przekaz feministyczny - na większości rysunków są przedstawieni chłopiec i dziewczynka, która nie jest dodatkiem ornamentalnym.
Mogę sobie przygotować taki tekst i wklejać do każdej książki wydanej przez Dwie Siostry - “jakie to piękne!” Doskonale wydane, chociaż można się zastanowić, czy książki, które dzieci mają nosić po bagnach i lasach powinny być tak eleganckie, ale jako przedmiot znowu dostajemy rzecz najwyższej próby.

This is another of my favorite books this year. The subtitle is "With more than 100 plants and animals, plus an introduction to weather, geology, and the night sky." What better way to help young readers learn to appreciate the earth than with hand-on activities they can do no matter where they live. The illustrations are rather minimal, with few colors but they are still spot on. This is a great resource book as well as a great activity book and would be ideal for introducing kids to the natural sciences. I can remember my Kiddo exploring nature in the park and at the beach and a book like this is just what she needed but didn't have. It's a hefty volume but its packed full of good stuff.

I really enjoyed this book as it reintroduced me to a number of concepts that I had learned while in school, but hadn't really thought about or explored more since then. For learning about nature, I tend towards children'ts books because they are generally written in a clear and concise manner without any judgement and this book definitely fulfills those categories. I also really enjoyed the artwork that went along with the different pages and can see how it would appeal even more to a younger reader.
Favorite fact learned is that daisies are actually comprised of more than one flower, you just have to look closely :)

Informative and illustrative love the contrast of black and the blues.
Overall: This is a great resource for in the classroom or in the family bookshelf. Amazon lists this as a K-3 resource. It could be to explore imagery or work through the text. But to me this feels and reads for more 3rd and up? I could be wrong and it depends on your younging. But it's a good group/family read ..to go along with exploring the outside world.

Great for introducing and reconnecting children with nature. Frog or toad, inside and ant hill, let's find fireflies. Packed with projects, ideas, illustrations and facts this would be great for biology, science, art and forest school. I love it.

Not only is the book beautifully illustrated, it’s also full of good information about any subject that falls under the large category of being outside, but in simple enough terms to help share it with my campers and the other kiddos who come through the Farmpark. Alongside the basic facts are strange ones (frogs used to be used as pregnancy tests????) and fun activities. I’ve got several pages bookmarked to use during the summer (both at camp and on my own time).
There were a few weird quirks, like a sentence that didn’t actually finish, a page that looked like it should’ve been in full color but wasn’t, and a missing number. But these are minor and didn’t take away from the overall excellent quality of the book.

Excelente livro para começar a envolver os mais pequenos nos prazeres de explorar a natureza. É cientificamente correcto sem ser aborrecido, tem imensas ilustrações lindíssimas e é um prazer de folhear, até para graúdos. Recomendo vivamente.

The first illustration is a minimalist line drawing. The tree that follows has more detail, but there’s also an ethereal figure climbing it, which makes it a little spooky but quite interesting.
After that artsy start it settles into huge info dumps. There are entire pages full of leaf shapes, for instance, and another of seeds. I don’t know the age group targeted here, but I’d imagine it would take early teens, and then they’d already have to be interested in science and such, to get into all this. It feels like a science textbook at a performing arts high school.
Fun fact: cork protects its oak from fires, if the humans haven’t harvested it all for their wine bottles.
There are similar chapters on flowers, animals, rocks, and so on. There’s a special section on the platypus, which feels right.
From the mentions of the country, as well as the names of the author and illustrator, it’s pretty easy to tell this book originated in Portugal.
Fun fact: biologists howl too.
Some sections include homework assignments.

Outside: Exploring Nature takes a look at the great outdoors via weather, and land formations. There was a neat section on oceans, and another on planets and stars. The artwork reminded me a great deal of that found in Shel Silverstein's books, the drawings simple yet useful. I found everything to be very informative and science-oriented, and there are activities to try scattered throughout. My cubs and I read the together and we all enjoyed it. This is perfect for nature and outdoors oriented kids.

This was a really fun book to read through. I loved the many different facets of nature that were discussed and illustrated in this book.
I have shared this with my kids, and they really enjoyed it as well. For kids ages 5 and up, this is the perfect gateway into understanding nature and getting to know the many different aspects that make up what we view in the natural world.
Get ready for a fun-filled adventure and enjoyable time reading with your kids.

This book has good information. It's a little too old for my kids, however, so maybe I'll come back to it with them in a couple years.
