Kamala crosses paths with the Inhumans for the first time, by meeting the royal pup, Lockjaw! Every girl wants a puppy, but this one may be too much of a handful, even for a super hero with embiggening powers. He may be the Queen's pooch, but this dog's one royal pain in the neck.

OH-KAY, this is my favourite comic of the week fireals! It’s got: Adrian Alphona returning to draw, Kamala teaming up with Lockjaw of the Inhumans (he’s the giant dog with the antenna on his head), a Jamie McKelvie cover, and a wicked awesome story by G Willow Wilson. What else do you need?
Medusa’s sent Lockjaw to watch over Kamala while she investigates the dangerous villain, the Inventor (she’s still not aware she’s an Inhuman, or NuHuman). She’s tracking down the locations of the missing kids who he’s been using in his machines as batteries. But after she saves another kid, one of the Inventor’s trackers leads him directly to her school…!
It probably helps that I’m a dog person that I loved this issue so much. Kamala’s overjoyed at having the giant dog Lockjaw with her even if she doesn’t know who he is - one of Black Bolt’s inner circle - but their bonding over this issue was so darling. I’m pretty sure that’s how I was when I got my first dog!
Then you’ve got the rest of this issue which hits all the notes you’d expect - her home life, her school life, her personal life - mixed in with superhero action. It’s a really well balanced issue that advances the story and her character perfectly.
Alphona’s dearly missed art is in full effect once again. It’s definitely true that you don’t know what you’ve got til its gone and when Alphona left the title, for me anyway, the series lost a bit of its light. Every page is gorgeous from the superhero action as Kamala battles a giant robot with her powers, to the simpler conversation scenes between Kamala and Lockjaw (pretty one-sided conversations admittedly!). Wonderful, wonderful art!
It’s another fantastic, fun issue in the brilliant new Ms Marvel series. Terrific art and writing all round, Ms Marvel #8 is the must-read comic of the week!
Is there anything cuter than a dog WITH superpowers? The answer is no. Which is why Lockjaw, in whatever setting, is a winner. I absolutely adore him. Also no wonder I was loving the cover arts!! It's freaking McKelvie, from TheWicTheDiv!
So Kamala is very fun and funny but also reminds me of spiderman, I like how the change and adapt the storyline to her. I will keep going until is over, or not over!
It could take me an hour to get through each page in these comics because there are so many great little details in each panel! I love this comic to bits!
This is another one I didn’t like as much. I just felt like nothing really happened in this issue and it all went by a bit too quickly. I did like the dog and the cute interactions there and I liked that we got to see Kamala’s friends again. I just was missing something in this issue I guess.
"Generation Why": One of the best issues ever of the series, even if only by the short but heartfelt and true analysis of today's youth.
And this is how Kamala won everyone's hearts, not only Muslim young girls. She's the superhero(ine) every outcast was waiting for and needed. Last issue's letter from a white male reader made me cry. Why? Because you don't need to be Muslim, a girl, from immigrant parents, wear a headscarf, be brown... to relate to Kamala. We all have been left out for one reason or another, and Kamala relates to us all.
*sigh of relief* The art style is back to normal. Honestly, this comic is inspiring. Not only is Kamala entirely different from the sexually-objectified superheroines of the past, but this issue asks how the world can give up on the current generation before we've even had a chance to prove ourselves. This series is truly something else; a very different style for Marvel, and I'm absolutely loving it.
I read this graphic novel as part of the 2016 Hub Challenge and Ms. Marvel is one kick ass heroine living in Jersey City fighting to keep the bad guys out of her neighborhood. She fights against the Inventor alone but is aided by Lockjaw, a dog with super powers. As an inhuman she fights to protect and I can't wait to read more about this superhero (but also just a plain old teen in high school).
5 stars because Lockjaw is adorable. An exciting start to a new thread of the ongoing plot. Some brilliant bits in this issue, as I have come to expect from Ms. Marvel. Bring on the next issue! The way my life is so busy at the moment, it'll seem to come around super fast I'm sure. It took me a few days to realise this one was out! So, unexpected bonus.
I can already tell I'm going to become overly attached to Lockjaw. I'm giving this a 3 star rating, not because it was worse than the previous two issues, but because this feels a bit like a filler issue. Not that there's anything wrong with filler issues just in comparison to the last two kick butt instalments this was a little bit underwhelming.
Another very enjoyable issue. This one features Lockjaw fairly heavily (quite exciting, because he's pretty clearly an awesome sidekick) and has Kamala continuing to carry out her fight against the Inventor.
"That's half of heroing, noticing things. Noticing, and not being afraid. Because when you decide not to be afraid, you can find friends in super unexpected places."
