Hurricane

Rate this book
He was like a force of nature.

When my mom married a man far older than her when I was only thirteen years old, her new husband Sebastian came with a son almost a decade my senior who I'd met exactly one time.

Nolan.

He had blown into town like a hurricane on the day of our parent's wedding, causing a major scene during their special day and leaving me with a lasting impression.

When Sebastian has a sudden heart attack nearly ten years later, he blows back into town the exact same way he did the first time. I can't help but to notice the irony when an actual hurricane rolls in at the same time and the two of us find ourselves stranded alone together and without power while we wait out the storm.

As I finally get a chance to get to know the man who I had thought of for years as a force of nature, I quickly realize that my first impression of him was way off base.

Meh...This was a very short story that fell flat. No character development and the couple lacked chemistry and emotion. Not at all what I expected.

> > Judging a Book by it's Cover < <
The cover predominantly features a well-built, bare-chested man presumably standing in the rain. It does not really match the story but neither is it completely off-base. Font choices are strong. The synopsis sounds not too unlike other "step-siblings stranded together due to a weather event" stories, but I figured I'd still give it a go.

POV ~> First person POV. Sabrina's perspective.

What I enjoyed most about this novella was the fact that they'd met, indirectly and quite briefly, eight years ago when Sabrina was 13 and Nolan was 21. Now she's 21 and he's 29 and Nolan returned to settle funeral affairs for his father. A hurricane was blowing through when he arrived, isolating the two of them with not much more to do than to get to know one another and act on a mutual attraction while distracting Sabrina from her fear of storms and the complete darkness that occurred when the power was lost.
The story was, by turns, sweet and steamy. The characters volleyed from shy to sexy. A cameo from his dad at the beginning, as well as her mom at the start and end, made up the whole cast. Chemistry was good. Dialogue strong enough. Interactions were enjoyable. As short as the story was, the plot provided a good start, enjoyable middle, and solid enough ending. An HEA is implied. Writing was fluid. No problems with predictability.
Overall, it's a fun, short stepbrother read that was easy-to-read.

Sabrina's mother married Nolan's father when she was young; now Nolan has come to attend her stepfather's funeral after a heart attack.

With a Hurricane coming inland and her mother at her grandmothers and can't get home, Nolan roars in on his motorcycle like a Hurricane. The rest of the story is the romance between the two main characters with a good amount of sex and the mother gives her approval.

The story is just fiction and a good thing because it was not too realistic but a fun read for pretend characters.

A twenty-one-year-old becomes stuck in a storm with her ex-stepbrother. He's in town for his estranged father's funeral. Yep, that can make things a bit tense without even factoring in the hurricane beating down on them. What starts off as awkward and tense, quickly becomes a passionate affair as our couple realize their attraction to each other is reciprocated.

This novella was a quick read in a single sitting. Nolan's character was more complex but I thought Sabrina could use more fleshing out. I don't think her current occupation (or schooling?) was even mentioned so it was tougher to get a sense of who she was.

The romance was heated, though. It got better as the story went on. The ending was abrupt, but that is to be expected with a novella. In all, it was a pretty good read with some steamy love scenes.

This is a small in-between-books-snack for the literary peckish.

Nolan and Sabrina, step-siblings who know nothing about one another; insert stranded cliche. Sabrina saw Nolan for a moment when he crashed his father's wedding to Sabrina's mother eight years earlier; insert reunion-not-reunion cliche. He's the token bad boy; rebellious and wounded cliche.

That is all you really get to know of him because the POV of this novella is from Sabrina. Her neuroses and awkwardness overshadow Nolan. The guys is just a prop meant to trigger all her self doubt and internal misery-cum-enlightenment.

Insert love-at-first-sight cliche.

The best one word review for this would be 'meh'. Snacks are meant to get you through til a meal though.

Left open

This was a fast read. Knowing this, there were a lot of things left open, hanging. Why mention these things multiple times and not elaborate? What's the point, except to frustrate readers like me. The saving grace would be the steamy parts which were quick and to the point. Slightly disappointed with this one. 2.75 for sure.

For what this story was I really enjoyed it. We have a disgruntled son who was abandoned by a father that later found love and his was with a new wife. When a storm brings our two characters together, we find out how wonderful said son is. Sure there are a few in answered questions here and there, but you know what? That doesn’t matter. This was a wonderful story. And I’m glad I read it. I hope there might be more one day.

Hurricane

Wow, the title surely fits the story of Sabrina and Nolan. She first saw him at her mom's wedding to his father( storming outside) and now when it's storming outside. Storms can wreck havoc on lives and it can bring great joy too. Luckily it brought great joy to both Nolan and Sabrina with the blessing of her mother.what more could anyone ask for.

Step brother romance

Great read!! I'm glad Nolan came and she wasn't by herself during the hurricane, especially since she was afraid of storms.. The sex between the two is explosive. Can she get him to stay or will she go with him?

A good story if you need a quick read. Shame it wasn't a little longer but worth reading none the less.

Good novella

It was a short story, obviously, so that requires almost an inst-love type relationship. The story is well written and has a decent plot.

*I received a copy in exchange for an honest review*
This was an entertaining, scorching, quick read. The characters were well developed and the story line centering around a hurricane was unique. I liked Sabrina and Nolan from the start and couldn't wait to see them get together. My only regret was that I wished it was longer so I could have seen Sabrina and Nolan fight their sexual attraction and experienced more of their fiery relationship.

From the moment Sabrina lays eyes on her her angry, mysterious, gorgeous, much older, step brother, at their parents wedding, she is drawn to him. Unfortunately after that fateful day when she was thirteen, she has never seen him again but has always wondered about him. When his father passes away and she finds herself face to face with him, she is waiting out a hurricane at home alone. Little did she know that she was going to encounter two forces of nature at once. Nolan blows back into town with unresolved feelings towards his father and immediately is captivated by the insecure, sexy, intelligent, Sabrina. As the storm rages on so does their sexual desires and let me tell you it was pure heat from the first touch to the last.

Arabella Abbing is a talented writer who knows how to lay the steam on thick and grab a reader's attention. I highly recommend for a quick and stormy ride of love that develops during winds at high speed. Nolan and Sabrina create an electricity all their own.

i liked this book. its about two step-siblings who have only once for a few seconds. then the death of his father brings nolan back around for the funeral.while her mom is stuck at her grandmothers house because of a storm, sabrina is home alone and hates storms but not for long. nolan shows up and while the storm is going and takes out the power sabrina is even more scared. nolan stays with her to keep her calm. while trying to fight their attraction to eachother. they fail at that and wind up giving in. once they start they cant be stopped. what will happen when mom finally makes it home? get the book to find out

Most amazing about this book that I have to get out first was I loved the mom. I loved how cool, lay back she was about the whole step-siblings knocking boots. I enjoy this short little story. I so wish it was longer and goes more into detail about Nolan's past and why he hated his father so much. What happens after they ride off, I wanted more!! B/c I enjoyed it do much. My first book by the author and I am now hooked!!

A sweet stepbrother romance.

This story was a quick read. I really enjoyed the stepbrother/older guy part. The story line was simple and very realistic and the chemistry and sex were hot! Great read and I'm looking forward to the next story by this author.

Although this was a short story, I would have liked to have known the history behind Nolan's estranged relationship with his father.

I'm not normally one that likes the "taboo" of step-sibling romances yet I read this without censure. An entertaining read.
