Loved this!

Learning Curve is the first book in the Psychic Rivers series (no Goodreads series page as of this writing), a spinoff series of Victoria Laurie's Psychic Eye/Abby Cooper series. While the usual gang is featured (Abby, Dutch, Brice, Candace, and Oscar), the series centers on Dutch and the newly created old case division he's now leading. The books are from Dutch's point-of-view.

The events in this book happen around five months after the events of A Future To Remember, Psychic Eye/Abby Cooper book 18. Abby is still recovering from her ordeal and Dutch is suffering panic attacks, mainly triggered when he thinks of losing Abby.

Regional Director Bill Gaston charges Dutch with creating a cold case squad comprising PCs (psychic consultants) and (more intuitive) FBI agents. Abby is on board to train the agents to strengthen and use their intuition and to work with the psychics and to work to make sure the PCs are comfortable in their roles. Starting things off is the hiring of Beverly Carmichael. an older woman who Abby feels is perfect and who impresses Dutch with her cold reading the straight-forwardness. Before being formally hired, she is given a case to work on with Dutch and Oscar, the five-year-old case of a kindergartener who went missing from his parent’s home. Beverly provides new information that sends Dutch and Oscar off to Wichita to chase down her leads... So starts the investigation. To give more information would spoil things.

This book was so good, from beginning to end. I read it within a few hours—and I eagerly await the next-in-series. I love the idea of closing cold cases because of the challenge(s) to the team digging into the past. Working with PCs adds an interesting and intriguing layer. I've loved the same basic plot in the Psychic Eye/Abby Cooper series, but this concentrates more on the FBI side of the investigations.

This book was not complimentary. I am reviewing it of my own free will because the book, or the experience of reading it, moved me to do so. All thoughts and opinions are mine and are biased only by my experience(s).
