This beautiful book is hard to pin down. The essays within are poetic but not pompous or fanciful yet the writing is exquisite. It transports you instantly to the places in the South West the author loved and visited. Lawrence Clark Powell references many other South Western authors and books in the essays but his writing has a timeless feel compared to some of the texts he references that I have read. If you are visiting the South West or are a lover of its geography and literature I strongly recommend this gem.
