Sweetlin Bakery Series One is a sweet Christian novella collection containing three complete stories. Each story revolves around Sweetlin Bakery, the heart of the Sweetlin family. There are plenty of temptations for both the appetite and the heart as each story unfolds. And each character is drawn into God’s perfect design for their lives.
"Sweet Beginnings" is where it all starts with Mona and Emmett. Mona comes from a wealthy controlling family. She’s never had to make a decision for herself and she’s always been a dutiful daughter – until she’s forced into an engagement she doesn’t want. To avoid marriage she defies her parents and runs away to Arizona where she meets Emmett Sweetlin. Emmett is a kind hearted, God fearing man who has a dream of opening his own bakery. It doesn’t take long for him to fall in love with Mona. Mona’s dream of freedom is at her fingertips, yet she’s afraid her father will find her and destroy her new life. Emmett is worth fighting for but can she stand up to her father for the first time in her life?
"Coffee and a Beagle": Everything in Jayna’s life is perfectly ordered from color-coding her closet, to her five year plan. She’s even selected marriage candidates and is trying to determine who will be the perfect husband. There isn’t room for distractions or messes. It’s her theory that God doesn’t create chaos and neither should His people. Then Trent Moore crashes into her world. He’s goofy and spontaneous, and he challenges all of Jayna’s carefully laid plans. She finds him irritating and irresistible. Yet he isn’t even close to what she wanted in a man, which leaves her with a choice to make: will she continue to play it safe and follow her plan? Or will she take a chance with Trent who might not be everything he appears to be?
"Sugar, Spice, and Other Sassy Things": Mila has a habit of sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong, and that’s exactly how she meets Austin Lang. He’s an injured ex-pro basketball player who growls and snarls with every breath. For some reason he’s decided to push everyone out of his life – and that includes the nosy stranger who shows up on his doorstep. Despite his anger and insistence to leave him alone, Mila has made it her personal mission to win him over. She offers cinnamon rolls, friendship, and love, but she’s not sure that’s enough to turn this beast into a thing of beauty. With God’s help she tries to break down the walls around his heart, but will something from his past show up and ruin everything?
Sweet Beginnings 58 pages - 3.5* - 5/22/19 This story centers around the founders of the Sweetlin Bakery. I think the following books in series follow their daughters's stories. It's a sweet Christian romance low on drama (though I'm a suspense lover, so it's likely people reading those fluffy, sugar coated romances only will disagree on this point) with likeble though not very well developed main characters and mostly unlikeable secondary characters. I liked the writting style very much but wasn't fond of the story telling style.
Coffe and a Beagle 62 pages - 4* - 5/24/19 I have to admit I struggled with the female main character very much and the overly rushed (in my oppinion) ending. I liked the male character and the female character's assistant very much and the writting style (once again). This story had a much stronger Christian message than the first one but also didn't neglect to show the distruction overly strict Christian traditions and/or the disregard of grace (against others) can cause.
Sugar, Spice, And Other Sassy Things 66 pages - 4* -5/25/19 This was another sweet story. I liked the three main characters enough but wanted to slap the couple several times for acting so unreasonable. I still like the writting style but stuggle more and more with the composition. It appears so uniform almost like a modular system with exchanged names and plot details but in general more or less the same. Even if it's pretty comon to add some 'artifical' drama to most of chick-lits it's something I don't appreciate at all and the reason I read them so seldom. This was my favorite of the stories in this book set but still didn't make me to really want read more by this author.
My biggest issue with all three stories were the many typos, inorrect words and formatting issues. I only hope there comes a time these will be fixed and we get an update without these. The only reson I actually read the entire book set I needed it for a bunch of challenges so I suspect it will continue this way with other book by this author I already own. They are nicely short and a change from my usual suspensful readings when I want something to distract myself but so far I can't imagine I'd be willing to pay for them - I don't like them enough to spend any amount of money :-(
This book has a few love connections of part of a family. Parents and then two daughters. Years apart. I was confused after the parents story as it didn’t really explain how many years later. I enjoyed the first story of the parents the best. I was looking for a fast fun Christian book and found it with Coffee and a beagle.
These stories prove that you can write great love stories that are real life while keeping them clean. I love that God is such a large part of their lives. I’ve already bought the next set and the two novellas.
sweet faith-based light Romances with interesting characters, each of the three stories are more like novell's and don't really take that long to read.
Easy reading. Christian fiction. Fun stories Sisters are certainly not all the same. Great family focused stories with marriageable daughters - fun book
I enjoyed meeting this family and reading about this family. I was pulled into their lives and the twists and turns we all experience in our daily lives.
What a wonderful set! All three stories were entertaining, sweet romances. The couples are all Christians at the start. Their stories have twists and fantastic messages.
This book is made up of three novellas about the Sweetlin family. The title of the book comes from the second story. The first is about the mother, Mona, followed by two of her daughter's stories. They are a Christian family who listens for God's messages and direction in their lives. Each story has them meeting their future husband. Things do not always go smoothly, but they persist in what they feel is right based upon God's message. They are very easy to read, sweet and honest. Simple stories about love and listening to your heart. I enjoyed them very much.
At first I was taken back by how short the stories were and I thought maybe it was just a 'teaser' book from Amazon, but it was written purposedly that way. After I realized it was on purpose, I enjoyed the stories. Very sweet love stories about a mother and two of her daughters.
